Very good beginner book on carniverous plants
We bought a few carniverous plants from a nursery, which is how my kids got interested in the subject. I borrowed this book from the library. The book further peaked the kids' interest in the plants (they check the plants every day). We got a lot out of this book. In fact, we read it over and over and over again for so many time that I bought a copy. Eyewitness Reader, Plants bite back
Another interesting book from DK that kids will love. It was well written and kept my interest all the way to the end. It's nice to have books that that are interesting and informative that my kids really like to read, I even learned something from this book. The photographs and illustrations are wonderful. A. D. Tarbox, Freelance Reviewer for Midwest Book Review
Kids will be intrigued by the story of the Titanic's voyage and how it sank. The photographs and illustrations do a great job of visually showing the story. This is a great reading book for second and third graders.
Great Titanic Book Young Readers
I purchased this book for my son in second grade who iscaptivated by the tragedy of the sinking of the Titanic and this book was perfect for his reading level and probably younger readers too. He has watched several movies about the Titanic and he took this book into school today to share with his class. It gives a very good account of the facts and brings the reader forward to it's dsicovery in the 1980's. It is a good book for the kids to read to themselves or for parents to read to them. I liked it myself.

For my son, the "alien-aholic"
My six-year-old is totally into monsters and aliens. It's often hard to find serious books on aliens for kids his age. He enjoys kids stories that involve UFOs and Martians, but craved the "real" thing. This book is perfect for us. I can read it to him and he understands it. He also loves the pictures and often draws them. A must for anyone with a young "alienaholic" in the family.

Mission To The Arctic
My son really enjoyed this book! LEGOs is his favorite pastime. He really enjoyed seeing the characters which he plays with come to life. It is so hard finding books for boys in the age range 8-10 and this book helps fillin the some of that missing gap. I really liked the glossary in the backwhere scientific terms are introduce to children as they read about theLEGO adventure. I will be looking forward to seeing more adventures on thelego character. Who doesn't like spies books? In reading through this book, I was greatly dismayed to see the graphic depictions of killing.Yes, we know that spies are often forced to do unsavory things.However, when writing for such a young audience, authors typically don't address them quite so vividly.As a former DK distributor, I was greatly disappointed to receive a book of such questionable content for my 8-year-old.I would recommend almost any other DK Reader, sight unseen, above this one. ... Great book for kids with all the facts...
This short biography of George Washington's live is great for classroom use.Written on a 3-4th grade reading level does not take away from the informational value of this text.The text does not leave out the important details to be found in most documentaries.Negative = the book refers to Washington as "George" through out.This often is a problem with children attempting to construct non-fiction writing pieces.

Excellent Intro to the President and the Revolutionary War
My 4-year-old loves having this read outloud to him.He is fascinated by Washington as a soldier and through this biography has learned a lot about the way in which the revolution led to a new government and country.I would highly recommend this book!

I purchased this book for my 8-year-old son.However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this wonderful book was full of interesting facts that even I didn't know about George Washington and the history of the United States.This book kept my son's interest throughout its 43 pages of text, which is a rarity.And it also includes interesting illustrations including a photograph of a set of dentures much like George Washington must have worn (fascinatingly disgusting!)."George Washington: Soldier, Hero, President" provided a learning experience for both parent and child, and should be a valuable addition to anyone's home library. ... Rodney Fox had almost run out of time. He needed to find a fish and fast. To win he needed to find a local fish a big one too. He won last year and he wanted to win again. Caveat!
I recently read this book with my son and was utterly appalled, both as a parent and as an educator in the public school system.This is surprising because we own numerous other DK books and I am a huge fan of the series.In addition to the fact that almost every story involves some sort of violence (hardly age-appropriate),a tiger is actually refered to as having been "murdered" (p. 35).Not only is the use of the word "murder" for an animal incorrect usage, it also sets an inappropriate tone in a book where humans are merely "killed" (p. 30; a much weaker word for an actual murder).If this book were not intended for reading alone by young children and if it were not part of a series used by schools, I would be considerably less concerned.Nevertheless, parents considering purchasing this book for their children should be aware that factual information is largely overshadowed by an overwhelmingly heavy-handed political message.
