Artemis Strikes Again
Having Successfully restored his family fortune, 13 year old mastermind Artemis Fowl the began to search for his father. Who supposedly drown in a ship accident. While Holly discovers that goblins use an abandoned chute accepting shipments of batteries, that had modified lasers which required those types of batteries. She suspected that Artemis was the one supplying those batteries for the goblins. She found out that it was neither Butler or Artemis. So Holly goes and tries to find out who is selling these batteries. Artemis, and Butler head out to the artic to try to find Artemis's father. Artemis, and Butler are ambushed by a goblin hit squad and barely escaped. He hasn't yet found his father. He sits and waits to see if they get a phone call that informs with information of where his father could be located. They will only tell as long as he has 1300 pounds of gold.

Artemis Fowl:the arctic incident
Artemis Fowl is set on an estate outside the city of Dublin, Ireland and in Arctic Russia. At the beginning of the book, it is made clear that Artemis' beliefs that his father, Artemis Fowl Senior, a wealthy Irish crime lord, was alive, is correct. When his ship, the Fowl Star, sank in his attempt to bring 250,000 cans of soda to the Russians, Artemis Fowl Sr. was found alive and has been held prisoner for the past two years by the Russian Mafia.At the beginning, the Mafia has decided that it is time to negotiate a ransom for Artemis Senior. The price is very high and the deal is under a timelimit. This would not be a problem except just as Artemis is ready to get going; he is kidnapped by "The People" a race of fairies living underground. It seems that members of the goblin's secret organization, B'wa Kell, have been found with human sources. Since goblins are basically idiots, it becomes clear that someone not remotely related to a goblin is operating the fiendish scheme. Artemis is immediately blamed and is taken prisoner by Holly Short (Holly Short, a captain of the LEPrecon (Lower Elemental Police Reconnaissance) an elite force trained in dealing with the "Mud People" (humans) along with his trusty bodyguard, Butler. After it becomes clear that Artemis is innocent, they are recruited to locate and demolish the goblins connection in exchange for their services in gaining the release of Artemis Senior. Working under enormous time pressure, their task is accomplished, but when Holly and her superior Commander Root, set out to fulfill their part of the bargain, a takeover occurs underground in the land of "the People." Foaly, the tech expert, who is also a centaur, is accused of heading up the revolution. Holly, Julius, Foaly, Artemis Jr., and Butler race against time to save The People from an evil dictator and save the life of Artemis Senior.

After listening to a public library audiobook copy of the first Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl), my children and I were eager to see if there were other books available in the series.We learned that our library did not have subsequent copies, so I hurried to Amazon to see what I could find.We've now purchased and listened to "Artemis Fowl - The Arctic Incident" and have donated it to our public library so others may share in the story.Not only is each book in the series wonderfully written, with fully crafted, believable characters - insofar as fairy-tale characters can be believable - but the audiobook is narrated by one of the most skillful readers I've ever heard.Nathaniel Parker, also the narrator for the first book, is back with his fantastic portrayals of our favorite characters.This book has all the necessary ingredients for enjoyment:comedy, adventure, fantasy - all played out through witty and engaging dialog between easily distinguishable characters.The author, Eoin Colfer, must have been a Monty Python fan too, because some of the lines uttered as asides by a couple of his characters could just as likely have been said by one of the Flying Circus troupe.My family highly recommends this book, in either printed or audio form. ... Absolutely wonderful.
Like Harry Potter, there is a reason this series draws fans from all ages, all over the world. And like Harry Potter, it's being turned into a movie.
Better Than Expected
I thought this book was way better than most of the reviews portrayed it.I really enjoyed the concept of this book.It was definitely new and exciting.I'm not going to write a plot summary.Amazon and some of the reviewers do a way better job than I could.I didn't think it started out boring at all.It did get a little bogged down in the middle.I think it may have been from where this book was translated.I found it easy to get involved with the characters.I would really recommend this to young adults and adults who love fantasy.

The Egypt Game
This book The Egypt Game is really interesting. At the beginning you get bored, but don't stop reading because later this book will get really good. April is a girl who moved with her grandma for some reasons. She meets a girl and her brother and they discover a very funny game. One day something occurs and they cannot go out to play out for a long time. It wasn't a day or two it was more than a week. Before they were three members who are in the game and at the end they are six. During the time they were in Egypt strange things begin to happen when they get back to play.

I think this is a good book because there is alot of adventure.The book would be diffucult if you are a lower level reader. This book was challenging to me because I don't know much about Egypt yet.It is a good book becuase it makes the kids look like they are going to get in alot of troble but they really dont because the old man is so nice.That is why I recommend The Egypt Game.

This book is terrific. I think that the best books for kids, are the ones that are filled with interesting characters, magic and imaginative play. In this book, six children come together and begin the fascinating game of Egypt, where the ordinary becomes extrordinary, where the kids become high priests and priestesses who guard the secrets of egypt! Interwoven are the kid's individual struggles, and how they overcome them. This book is wonderful because it encourages kids to explore the amazing world of creative play themselves, and also (in opposition to one of the reviews) can enrich a class that is learning about Egypt, because who cares about the facts of Egypt, its all about the magic, which these kids are so fascinated with. Great series read it 5++++
I have been reading this series from the beginnig. books and comics I love the cone wars books/Comics. I just pick this up a few days ago and I loved it I really loved the part about darth vader after revenge of the sith. It brought a good end the this series. I am also enjoy in legacy of the force book series witch I am reading #2 as well as Legcy comic series. Anothe comic series I am eager to read is the dark times coming in october witch acts as a sequal to one of the stoies presrnted herw as well as dark lord witch you should also read. enjoy this series.

This book was so great!!!! When I first got this book I didn't know squat, but ever since I got this book middle school doesn't seem that much scary to me anymore. So if your starting middle school then you should buy this book,also if you in 7th, 8th, and even beyond use this book for help throughout your school years!

My daughter loved this book. I purchased it for her just before she started 6th grade.She read it over and over as if it were her personal "school-bible".It gave her a good boost of confidence that she needed to transfer to a bigger, newer school.
a great book for the summer before middle school
I'm in sixth grade right now, and in the summer of 2005, I was really scared about starting a whole new part of school. I really liked the book and it is a very fun interesting book to read. I really liked that it had to do with some sort of sport. I also liked it because it was book were there was all source of action. There was a little boy that lived in the hills and dream of having two coon hounds. He finally worked and saved enough money to buy himself two. He was so excited to get them that he trained them to hunt. The characters were very believable and never doubted that they were making them up. The plot was very interesting because it was about the kid entering a big coon hunt. He won the competition by treeing four coons with his dogs. The major themes of the story were when on of the Prichard brothers accidentally stabbed himself. The author used a very special way of imagery. He made everything be visual in my head. I was all into the story that I didn't want to stop reading. I didn't like by were sometimes they didn't talk about when the dogs killed the coons and how they treed them. They would sometimes leave you think what would happen next or what could of happen.

I adore this book. I wrote a reviw on what I think of it a while ago, so you could find it later. But I'm sick of all these people saing there was no action or adventure. What's up with that? And to the people who say there are lost of grammer mistakes in the book, you should check your grammer.

Gregor and The Marks of Secret - Series Number 4
This is the 4th book in the Gregor The Underland Chronicles series. My granddaughter continually reminds me to check for the next volume of this particular book series as she loves the adventure. She began reading the series when she was 11. She is now 12 and is as much excited about the Gregor books as she was from the beginning. I've already been asked to check for the 5th book in the series, which I understand is arriving in early 2007.

Gregor and the Marks of Secret is one of the best books I've ever read.The Underland Chronicles are SO amazing.Suzanne Collins is the best at world-building.I read Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods in two days, and it was over three-hundred pages long.These books are impossibel to put down.

should be part of every pet-loving child's and adult's library
this book really helped me get over the loss of my beloved pet fish, Mr. Furious. Well, not "get over"- those who've loved animals know there is no "getting over" the loss of a dearly departed pet. There is only solace in the good memories we have of them. I enjoyed this lovely book. It gave a very warm and hopeful portrait of the after life. I intend to buy a copy for myself and for my young niece who recently lost her favorite kitty. Sylvia is a terrific author!

Great book for children with loss of pet
This book is great if you have children who has lost a pet or a loved one that has a hard time coping with a loss of their pet. They do a wonderful job easing the pain and explain that our pets will also be on the other side for us.The loss of our pets are similar to a loss of a person, we interact with each on a daily basis.If any of you have pets then you know each one has their own personality and are the closest thing to angels.They protect us and always have unconditional love for us. The book is full of drawing and pictures for children.

The white-hooded knights of the fiery cross have been the subject of a lot of research, some focusing on the influence of religion, socialism, and Christian Socialism in the group and in government. Much of the work expresses worries of a future filled with religious persecution and totalitarianism. Those worries have relevance to the enormous size and scope of government in the USA and its growing police state.
A good read
This is a really good book.As I was reading this book I felt as if I was in the Vermont town. It showed me that not everyone agreed with the ku klux klan and that they sometimes they had to had to join even though they really didn't agree.

A lyrical book with much depth = this one!
While the Ku-Klux-Klan swarmed around the small town in Vermont in 1924, Leonora Sutter and Esther Hirsh and their families were focusing on staying alive. Witness is a book that puts the lives of these two girls as well as the nine other characters in the book into perspective. Leonora Sutter and her family are African Americans and Esther and her father are Jewish. These two characters have the greatest impact on the perspective of those against the Klan at that time. The book puts across a point of view from the different characters that you wouldn't usually think of. It is a very well written book and has many memorable characteristics to it.

Great, but only as a companion piece....
Like many, I am not a huge Star Wars geek.I've seen (and own) all of the films, but couldn't tell you half of the characters names, or get into a deep, nerdy converstation about them.However, I want to learn, so I picked this book up (after giving it a quick thumb through) assuming that it would be a Star Wars encyclopedia of sorts.
Binding mistakes
The contents were good, but 12 pages (pages 109-120)are binded reversed i.e. upside down and backwards.Poor quality control at the printer.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!

Oh, Yikes! Oh, Yes!!!!!
This is a book kids have been waiting for. As a school librarian, I can testify that copies of Oh, Yuck! are never on the shelf. Now there is a waiting list for Oh, Yikes! as well. Masoff writes in the most entertaining manner. She fully understands the mind of a child. Kids are so wildly amused by the subjects and the illustrations that they don't notice she's managed to include more facts than most text books. This is a wonderful book!!!!

The Grim Grotto
Before I tell you about this book and its damp pages I want to advise you that if you don't want you eyes and spirits damped I suggest you just forget about this review and the book that its about and read another, happier book. If you are reading this I guess you decided not to take my advice but that is ok. This book it about three orphans named Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire who are going down a stream and encounter a submarine whose captain is named captain Widdershins. It is about the Baudelaires teaming up with the captain and his stepdaughter Fiona to find the sugar bowl. Although they don't know why it is so important they trust the captain when he said that is cant fall into the wrong hands. This is where the villain, Count Olaf and his girlfriend Esme come in the picture. The Baudelaires are on a mission to find the sugar bowl before it gets into evils hands. They encounter many thing such as a deathly fungus, a mechanical monster, a giant spaghetti, a hope-lifting letter and a long lost family member. Now that you have witnessed some of the woe that this book contains I hope you take my word and just throw it down the drain and forget all about it.

A not-so-grim tale that will leave you gasping for air (and dry land)
When your last name is Baudelaire, it is a known fact that you will somehow stumble upon trouble, no matter how hard you may try and avoid it. When you're last name is Baudelaire and you're an orphan, stumbling upon trouble increases tenfold. Which is why the Baudelaire orphans (Violet, Klaus, and Sunny) know instantly after they begin floating along the Stricken Stream that trouble is lurking around some vicious corner. However, as they are not dolphins, seals, or fish, they did not expect their next bout of trouble to take place underwater. But, alas, that is exactly where they find themselves on their next dreadful adventure. Having come across a submarine that is filled with three crew members (Captain Widdershins, his step-daughter Fiona, and, lo-and-behold the Baudelaire Orphans old pal, Phil), the Baudelaire's enter the underwater vehicle, and begin their next journey. Within a short while, the three orphans learn that Captain Widdershins is a member of V.F.D., and they quickly realize that he is on their side, willing to help them discover the truth about the fire that took their beloved parents lives. However, when the orphans, along with Fiona (a young mycologist), prepare for a bit of deep-sea diving, they soon find that young Sunny has been infected with Medusoid Mycelium (a deadly fungi). Now, the siblings are searching for a way to save their baby sister from a very certain death, without many supplies. As if that weren't difficult enough for the Baudelaire's to endure, they have just discovered that Count Olaf is now trailing them under the sea, and plans on capturing them, and (you guessed it) claiming their fortune as his own.
Excellent, Aye!
The Grim Grotto has Violet, Klaus and Sunny aboard a submarine where a crazed Captain is obsessed with finding the sugar bowl before Count Olaf. While Klaus starts getting close to the Captain's stepdaughter Fiona. She's a book a worm too, well when it comes to learning about mushrooms. One of the funnier parts has has her stepfather alreday planning their wedding and having the two blushing. While saying "and Violet can marry my stepson once we find him again, Aye!". The book has it's slow points but it's still one of the best of the books since it has some surprises. Plus when Sunny gets poisoned by a deadly mushroom, Klaus and Violet have to figure out how to cure her and get away from Count Olaf at the same time.

Stress Relief
This book is great for any child whether you think they are stressed or not.Ask any teacher if the children in their class are stressed out and you'll hear "yes".My 2nd grader was showing signs of stress and anxiety about school by Sunday night.This book is helping both of us understand how to manage stress.I have supplemented this book with a wonderful stress management CD called "Indigo Dreams".My daughter loves following the muscular relaxation and breathing techniques with the characters in the stories.These are both a must have for any child.

Shedding Light on The Book The City of Ember
The City of Ember's plot is there is a girl named LIna.She is discovering that the city is running low on supplies.Lina is always dreaming of a new city that is ten times better.The city is also underground and is only light by lights that go on and off at certain times.Lina really wants to leave the city.I liked that there was alot of characters.It was fun because you could see who did what.I disliked that there wasn't enough action.This book is just as good as The People of Sparks.It is really interesting because its like The City of Ember.

AMAZING!!!!!
From start to finish, this book was amazing! One of the best novels I've ever read! Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow live in The City of Ember, where, without lights, it's total darkness. But when Lina discovers a secret message in her closet, her and Doon must decipher the riddle before it's to late to save Ember. Behing the Underland Chronicles, this series takes my second place vote. I went to Emporia Kansas today for the William Allen White Awards, and I actually met her!! I told her how much I admired her books, and she was very sweet and nice! She autographed Ember 1&2, and then I got a picture with her!!!! I will never forget that moment! Ember is a really good book with riveting plot stuructures and twists that are appropiate for all ages!

Incredibly Entertaining and a great value
I love this set.The performers are superb, and are clearly having fun with the reading, the text is unabridged, and there is a complete lack of chessy effects or background sound track, with the exception of segway music at the beginning and end of each CD, which I personally find very a very nice prompt to switch CDs. Even the questionable nod to femminism by including Lynn Redgrave as a reader for "Prince Caspian" does not diminish the production or entertainment value one iota.They presented in a different order from the original book series publication, but that was no matter to me: I simply listen to them in the coreect sequence.I am perfectly content to hear how it all began later rather than sooner.

What A Wonderful World It Is
The Chronicles of Narnia - the audios were really quite good.They are each done by different actors.Kenneth Branagh, who I know from Harry Potter's Chamber of Secrets, did well with the story telling of the first book "The Magician's Nephew".All the other actors were wonderful as well. But the best, to me, was Patrick Stewart, in "The Last Battle". What a performance.He caught my attention.So very dramatic, very passionate and funny!Overall, I enjoyed it.And to me, it's almost up there with Harry Potter's audio, and Lord of the Rings audio with Ian Holmes, playing the role of Frodo.If you want to buy it go for it!

Toching Spirit Bear, and Me
Cole has many problems. His dad beats him, his mom says nothing about it, so his anger towards his parents is taken out on the world, and specifically at a schoolmate, Peter. Peter tells on Cole, so Cole smashes his head into the sidewalk, causing severe damage both emotional and physical. When Cole is put into a detention center, Garvey, a man working at the detention center, tells Cole about a Tlingit Indian justice ritual called Circle Justice. Cole will do anything to get of prison. He agrees to his terms and is sentenced to a year of banishment on an island off the coast of Alaska. There he encounters a Spirit Bear. After almost being killed by it, Cole is left thinking about his life, his choices, and the healing ramifications of Circle Justice.

Wonderful things inside!
There are so many wonderful activities for your children to do during Literacy Centers in this book.I highly recommend it for a classroom, or for a parent with a child in grades 1-3.

Much needed help for the busy teacher!
I saw this book in a workshop and had to have it!It was so easy to make the centers... I just cut out the full color peices, laminated them, and put them in the box, folder, or hanger.The games even come with a recording sheet for the students.This is a must have for independent reading centers!
