Editorial Review

Chester Raccoon doesn't want to go to school--he wants to stay home with his mother. She assures him that he'll love school--with its promise of new friends, new toys, and new books. Even better, she has a special secret that's been in the family for years--the Kissing Hand. This secret, she tells him, will make school seem as cozy as home. She takes her son's hand, spreads his tiny fingers into a fan and kisses his palm--smack dab in the middle: "Chester felt his mother's kiss rush from his hand, up his arm, and into his heart." Whenever he feels lonely at school, all he has to do is press his hand to his cheek to feel the warmth of his mother's kiss. Chester is so pleased with his Kissing Hand that he--in a genuinely touching moment--gives his mom a Kissing Hand, too, to comfort her when he is away. Audrey Penn's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Cry Every Time
I cry every time I read this one.We love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Phenomenal Book
I'm a 24 year old soon-to-be married woman. When my parents moved me into my college dorm room, they left little presents wrapped up in all of the boxes I had to unpack. As you can imagine, once they left I was eager to get situated and began unpacking boxes and filling drawers one-by-one.One of the little presents I came across was this book.Of course, I wasted no time reading it, and soon found myself with tears streaming down my face.I was on my own for the first time, but I knew I knew I wasn't alone; nor was I ever far from my parent's love.It brings tears to my eyes just remembering how touched I was reading that for the first time. This is a fantasic book for everyone- whether you're 5 years old and starting kindergarten for the first time, or 18 and in college.

5-0 out of 5 stars He put his fist up to his cheek...
This is one of my favorite books. The story of little Chester the raccoon, his fear of going away to school, and how his mom gives him a kissing hand so he'll know her love is with him is a priceless story. I've read it to my son and daughter often over the last few years.

Author Wilson Rawls spent his boyhood much like the character of this book, Billy Colman, roaming the Ozarks of northeastern Oklahoma with his bluetick hound. A straightforward, shoot-from-the-hip storyteller with a searingly honest voice, Rawls is well-loved for this powerful 1961 classic and the award-winning novel Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ulises Cruz Review
I really liked the book and it is a very fun interesting book to read. I really liked that it had to do with some sort of sport. I also liked it because it was book were there was all source of action. There was a little boy that lived in the hills and dream of having two coon hounds. He finally worked and saved enough money to buy himself two. He was so excited to get them that he trained them to hunt. The characters were very believable and never doubted that they were making them up. The plot was very interesting because it was about the kid entering a big coon hunt. He won the competition by treeing four coons with his dogs. The major themes of the story were when on of the Prichard brothers accidentally stabbed himself. The author used a very special way of imagery. He made everything be visual in my head. I was all into the story that I didn't want to stop reading. I didn't like by were sometimes they didn't talk about when the dogs killed the coons and how they treed them. They would sometimes leave you think what would happen next or what could of happen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Geez!
I adore this book. I wrote a reviw on what I think of it a while ago, so you could find it later. But I'm sick of all these people saing there was no action or adventure. What's up with that? And to the people who say there are lost of grammer mistakes in the book, you should check your grammer.

4-0 out of 5 stars a spectacular book
The book I read was "Where the Red Fern Grows".This story takes place in the state of oaklahoma.Thers a boy named Billy and he lives with his family. All Billy wanted was two hound dogs. One day Billy went to his grandfarthers store and his grandfarther told Billy he had to meet God half way.Billy worked til he had 25.00$.Billy got two hound dogs.He decided he name them Dan and Little Ann.Billy hunted all he could and he sold the skins for money. If you want to know the rest read this spectacular book your self. ... I am a librarian, and I started reading this series in 2005. I never really understood why it was for children because there is more violence and bloodshed then the Harry Potter series. Moreover, The Warriors saga became a lot more darker and gothic once it spun off onto the sequel: "T.N.P."

Editorial Review

Who would ever suspect that a tiny little mouse could wear out anenergetic young boy? Well, if you're going to go around giving an exuberantly bossy rodent a cookie, you'd best be prepared to do one or two more favors for it before your day is through. For example, he'll certainly need a glass of milk to wash down that cookie, won't he? And you can't expect him to drink the milk without a straw, can you? By the time our hero is finished granting all the mouse's very urgent requests--and cleaning up after him--it's no wonder his head is becoming a bit heavy. Laura Joffe Numeroff's tale of warped logic is a sure-fire winner in the giggle-generator category. But concerned parents can rest assured, there's even a little education thrown in for good measure: underneath the folly rest valuable lessons about cause and effect. Felicia Bond's hilarious pictures are full of subtle, fun details. Fans will be happy to know that this dynamic author-illustrator pair teamed up again for Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book everrrrrr!!
This was a favorite of mine when i was younger, and that has not changed as i have grown older. "If you give a mouse a cookie" is an amazing book. It is funny, interesting, and an all around good children's book. I recomend this book to anyone who has kids or enjoys kids books. It is also a well illustrated book which makes it even better.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Favorite
My 3 year old son and I love this book.We can't decide which we like more - this one or Numeroff's other book "If Give GiveMoose a Muffin".Unlike some children's books, both the text and illustrations are equally enjoyable. It's especially fun to see how the animals boss the children around and tie them out.

Roy Eberhardt is the new kid--again. This time around it's Trace MiddleSchool in humid Coconut Grove, Florida. But it's still the same old routine:table by himself at lunch, no real friends, and thick-headed bullies like DanaMatherson pushing him around. But if it wasn't for Dana Matherson mashing hisface against the school bus window that one day, he might never have seen thetow-headed running boy. And if he had never seen the running boy, he might neverhave met tall, tough, bully-beating Beatrice. And if he had never met Beatrice,he might never have discovered the burrowing owls living in the lot on thecorner of East Oriole Avenue. And if he had never discovered the owls, heprobably would have missed out on the adventure of a lifetime. Apparently, bullies do serve a greater purpose in the scope of the universe. Because if itwasn't for Dana Matherson...Read more

My book for my review was called Hoot. Hoot is about a boy named Roy . Roy is the main character in the story. The author's name is Carl Hiaasen. I would recommend this book to girls because I have know some boy who have read this book and did not like it. Hoot is my favorite book. I have read it 7 times! I think this book is best for girls. From ages 9 to 12 it is more of a kid book than an adult book.

Roy Eberhart, Mullet Fingers, and Beatrice Leep are trying to save little baby owls and their existence from Mother Paula's all American Pancake House, Inc. They do a series of stuff to the construction site so they couldn't build the pancake house in Coconut Cove, Florida.Mother Paula's knows they are there, but they want the pancake house anyway. I recommend this to kids who like fiction and who are very adventurous people.

Editorial Review

Although this book was around when many of today's parents wereyoungsters, it has remained a steadfast must-have in every toddler's library. For starters, it's a great vocabulary guide that names the many things that go (and some that haven't a prayer of going, but are great fun to imagine anyway). It's also teeming with detail-rich scenes and characters on every page, teaching children the rewards of looking long and closely (such as finding the hidden "Goldbug" in each spread). Along the way it entertains with the silly and slapstick--everything from toothpaste and toothbrush cars to six fire department vehicles that show up to extinguish a ladybug-size fire in a miniature pink convertible. What's most amazing about this book, however, is its longevity. When you purchase it for your fledgling talker, you should consider it an investment. Even 11-, 12-, and 13-year-olds are known to pore over the book nostalgically, cooing at Lowly Worm and eagerly tracking Officer Flossie's book-long chase after that irresponsible, speedster driver in a cowboy hat. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Scarry Classic
I first read this book to my daughter 22 years ago. It was her favorite, and alas it wore out. Searching to find Goldbug on each and every page was the most fun, and the verse was very entertaining as we did so. It helped teach her words, spelling and all about the different ways to get from here to there. I just reordered a copy to surprise her for Christmas, as she prepares to start her own family. I highly recommend this book by one of the most beloved children's authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply outstanding
I grew up with Richard Scarry books, including the now out-of-print "Busy Busy World."For some reason I had forgotten what a gem this is.Any child will delight in it, and for parents it is so nice to have a book that can be different every time you read it, as most of our books are read over, and over, and over.

Mo Willems delights again! Personnally a big fan of Pigeon, in particular the hot dog episode, I awaited "The Pigeon has feelings too!" with eagerness. And even though it is only a 5 or 10 page board book, with very little action; it's still a great book. The illustrations make it. Though I would certainly reccommend "The Pigeon finds a hot dog!" or "Don't let the Pigeon drive the bus!" first, this little book is worth checking out if you have very young children in the family. ... Great book!I just wish it was clearer that it was a paper book and not card board (which are much more durable for a two year old). Also, would love to know age approprietness for books when buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Selection!
Cows that type? Get out of town! Well, these cows do type, and negotiate. Life in a barnyard could not be more interesting than in this precarious story of farm animals that take a stand to better themselves and their environment. I loved the expressions on the animal's faces when Farmer Brown reacts to their demands. 'Eyes wide open' certainly applies here. This is a read aloud must! Not since I read Animal Farm by Orwell, have I been completely captivated by farm animals.

1-0 out of 5 stars Author needs to learn to be a lot more personable and care about the children he writes the books for
I purchased this book for my daughter because her school was going to listen to him read at the local book store. My daughter had wanted to get her picture taken with him but couldn't because her class had to leave so she asked if I would please get him to sign her book saying that she had met him so she could always remember this day.I told her that I would be happy to.I went up to have him sign it for her and asked if he could please put something saying that it was nice meeting her so that she would always have that memory. He refused said that he writes his own which is always the persons name rocks-not real personal. He said I could write that on the other page saying that she meet him.Needless to say, I returned the book.Any one who can not be nice and take just 1 minute to make a little girl happy by simply giving her a memory is not worth buying!!!I would highly suggest buying a different book by a different author. There are tuns of great children books out their by authors who truly care about making children happy and making a difference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not one of Mo's best, but still a must-have
Mo Willems is very popular in our home. Our six year old adores the pigeon books. We have read them all, and own most of them."Don't let the Pigoen Stay Up Late" is the weakest book in the series, but is still adorable and we had to buy it."The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog" is still the favorite in our household, however. The pigeon books are excellent to read to toddlers and excellent for early readers to read out loud for themselves. ... My four year old loves the Olivia books, and we couldn't wait to get this one.We laughed the whole way through, especially when she put on the lipstick.Hooray for Olivia!

1-0 out of 5 stars Olivia Mails It In (or Falconer Mails It In) Your choice.
My son enjoys the Olivia series immensely. "Missing Toy" and "Saves The Circus" are on their second copies at my house due to the wear and tear of the originals. We looked forward to "Forms A Band" and were delighted to finally get it at our local bookstore. Disappointed at the results puts it mildly. It is a disjointed mess, with a terrible ending (and if the end is political message, that is just awful and inappropriate)Olivia has lost her edge which is why we love her and the imagination scenes showed none, which is unusual for this series. Ours lasted two reads before it was pushed aside for one of the vibrant other Olivia books. I would buy this book only to complete a collection and nothing more. It is terrible. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

Opal just moved to Naomi,Florida with her dad the preacher. One day he sent her to the store (winn-dixie)to get food.Opal came back with a stray dog.She asked the preacher to keep him but he said no.Finally her dad gave in and let him stay there while they were looking for a homefor him.Opal named the dog Winn-dixie.they had lots of aventures together and made lots of nice friends.Such as Otis (gertrudes pet shop owner),Mrs Franny Block(libray owner),Gloria Dump,And sweetie Pie Thomas.Opal was reading Gone with the wind to Gloria and they decided to have a party just like Ms.Scarlet.They did it was fabulous. They invited all there new friends. All the stuff that happend that summer happend because of Winn-dixie.Ilike the book and the movie just about the same. But I would have to say I like the book a little bit more.If you haven't read the book yet you should its a very good book about a girl that finds a dog and they end up to love it each other.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Potty Training Book
My daughter wanted me to read this over and over again. She was amazed and eager to learn. It really helped in our potty training experience and she was easily able to not be afraid about bm's in the toilet anymore. Before the book, she was very frighted of her poop.

5-0 out of 5 stars An entralling read
If you don't like this book, get a sense of humor. If you like it, thanks for being open minded. It's a very immature book, but it's funny and let's children know that pooping is natural and that everyone does it. Elephants poop just as humans do, but in different quantities. I had this book when I was very young and loved it just as a farce. It's a cute book, but don't hope for a plot because it's merely a summery of animals that poop.
5-0 out of 5 stars ...Because Poop Happens
If you have read any of my other reviews you will see that I am a pretty open guy. I love metaphysics and all things spiritual, but one thing that I have definitely learned while here in this world of form is that poop definitely happens.

5-0 out of 5 stars My twins' favorite book!
I had no idea that eight month old babies could be so picky about books (especially when most of them are used as teethers), but *both* of my twins absolutely love this book -- their eyes light up whenever they see it, and they smile as they work through the pages. We actually don't read it with a square-dance rhythm (not a big square dance fan) but the kids love it anyway.I'm buying it for all future baby showers!

Editorial Review

"How does a dinosaur say good night when Papa comes in to turn off the light? Does a dinosaur slam his tail and pout? Does he throw his teddy bear all about? Does a dinosaur stomp his feet on the floor and shout: 'I want to hear one book more!'? DOES A DINOSAUR ROAR?" Most certainly not. Dinosaurs give their mommies and daddies big hugs and kisses, tuck their tales in, and whisper "Good night!"Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite in our house!
My son got this book and the matching stuffed dinosaur when he was 2. I think that was the start of his dinosaur obsession! :) We love this book and a year later we still read it all the time. He has the whole book memorized and can "read" it to us. We have started to acquire some of the other "How Do Dinosaur" books but this will probably always be the favorite. It's a great book!! We love the pictures and the story!!

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love It!
How could this book not recieve 5 stars? My first encounter I had with this book was at a daycare I worked at for the 2 year olds and they always requested it and loved it. Of course after reading it so many times it became memorized and they would help by shouting out words here and there. I loved it so much I made it a point to get it for my daughter and she has the same reaction. We read it every night and she knows the story, acting it out and recalling parts here and there. I got the paper back because it was cheaper but we'll be getting the hard back soon due to so much use. Definitely a title that should be included in your library.

5-0 out of 5 stars We read this book every night
My 3 year old son absolutely loves this book. We have to read it every night at bed time, he has it memorized for the most part so he "reads" along with me while I am reading it to him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the Best Storybook Ever
I loved Richard Scarry when I was young. When I was 4 I got My first book the Bunny Book. I loved it, it was so cute. I got the best storybook for my son when he was 2. He's now 3 1/2 and i'm not kidding i've read this book to him every single day since! He loves it. He calls it the bunny book. Because he too loves that cute story. Sometimes i'll find him in his room just studying the pictures he can be there for a very long. This is a must for every childs library.I also recommend the Richard Scarry's Best Learning videos from Rrandom House. My son loves those as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite book as a child
I am 28 years old and still remember how much I LOVED this book as a child.I read it until it fell apart, and my parents constantly tried to hide it on top of the refrigerator because they were tired of reading it to me over and over.Buy this book for your kids!I'm now an English teacher and, of course, an avid reader. When my students ask me what is my favorite book, I name this one, because it was my first loved book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
Richard Scarry's books are so simple to read, and the illustrations are classic.I remember reading his books when I was growing up, and I just loved them. This book includes many wonderful stories that aren't lenghthy so they won't lose your child's interest.I definitely want my daughter to experience them. ...
