Seven decades after Babar was born, the world is still very much in lovewith the noble elephant. Before his untimely death at age 37, Jean de Brunhoffwrote and illustrated six stories about Babar and his friends and family. Inthis exquisite gift edition, every one of these stories is included, with not aword or picture left out. From Read more

My husband and I grew up on Babar. So when we saw this book we bought for our 4 month old son.He loves to hear our voices as we read to him and he also loves the bright colored pictures. We enjoy the memories that the stories bring back to us.A great addition to anyones collection.3-0 out of 5 stars "Original" art?Ha!
I was so thrilled to get this book as a gift, especially since it includes the long out-of-print "Babar and Zephir."When I began to leaf through it, being very familiar with the older editions, I grew sicker with every page.Jean de Brunhoff's stunning artwork has been absolutely destroyed.5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT CHILDREN'S BOOK!

"If you give a pig a pancake, she'll want some syrup to go with it.You'll give her some of your favorite maple syrup. She'll probably get all sticky, so she'll want to take a bath." You get the idea. Baths lead to bubbles, bubbles lead to rubber ducks, rubber ducks lead to wanting a trip to the farm. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Midnight by "Lightstorm"/ "Lightstar"
At last Tigerstar and BloodClan are gone. The forest Clans are currently living in peace, but then Brambleclaw gets a mysterious dream from Bluestar telling of a prophecy and how he must meet with four other cats and listen to midnight. Brambleclaw struggles to make heads or tails of this dream. Meanwhile, Firestar's daughter Squirrelpaw continues to get on Brambleclaw's nerves. Although later on the cats get along better after Brambleclaw meets Feathertail, Tawnypelt (his sister), and Crowpaw, who is a rather irritating apprentice. Feathertail is joined by Stormfur, her brother who wants to protect her (both of the warriors are Graystripe's kits), and Squirrelpaw tags along as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really Good Book
This is a Really good book.I am glad that they switched the main character because Firestar is a leader so he can not move up the ranks in Thunder Clan. I kinda wish she did not Brambleclaw bet he is cool. This series is as good as the other series.Sqirrelpaw is pretty cool so are the other "chosen" cats. It has love, action, mythology, and mystery twisted into one. I advise everyone to read this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Feel Good ,Relaxing Story!
A Boy and a Turtle is a wonderful addition to our bedtime routine. My kids love the rainbow and the fact they are just tickled thatturtle is copying the boy as they learn to relax. My son said that the colors make him feel happy and my daughter wants to read it again. I personally feel my own stess levels drop as I read the story to them. The author takes a difficult concept(visualizing or imagining) and makes it simple.I have even reminded them to copy the turtle when we are in the car and things are getting loud. It works. Great stress management tool!

Now I refer them to every mother I meet who tells me about their child's anxiety about minor things to major things.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wiggle
This is such a cute book about wiggling, which most toddlers can relate with. It asks silly questions and shows a happy pudgy dog wiggling in lots of different places and ways. The story has a rhyme throughout and is great to read aloud. Your little one will enjoy listening and seeing the cute digitally created illustrations in this fun story.

5-0 out of 5 stars High energy story that is simply fun to read aloud!
A superbly simple rhyming story about wiggling through your day.I wanted to wiggle with the pictures on each page.I thoroughly enjoyed how Scott Menchin, the artist, used a real rubber ducky in a fake drawn bathtub and a cartoon dog with a real pancake on his head. The mismatched pictures were basic, colorful and fun to look at.The story itself is still in the style of the author's other books, Click, Clack, Moo, but doesn't make you feel as if you have read a different version of it already.Fresh ideas and crisp clean pages will have this book screaming to be read every day. Also recommended to use for teachers of kindergarten or first grade to start off the day with a good wiggle.Wiggling and movement before sitting down all day in class can provide some much needed stress relief...even for kids!

5-0 out of 5 stars A true original!
This is such a fun book. Fans of Doreen Cronin work get a special treat with Scott Menchin's illustrations. I absolutely love the pictures in this book! Menchin combines real pictures with illustrations and creative shadowing (not sure if that is a real word!)My 2-year-old has to take it to bed with her, she loves it so much. I recommend it to anyone with toddlers. In fact, it's my new birthday gift. ... Read more

Editorial Review

If you read this very popular book just before bed, and the light is still on in the hallway, you can make the rainbow scales glitter on the page, and realize why the Rainbow Fish was so proud of his beautiful decoration. Sometimes, though, being too proud of outside beauty can blind a fish, or a child (or even, heaven forbid, a parent) to the beauty people hold inside. That's the lesson of this simple tale, imported from Switzerland. It's a useful one for future sneaker and designer clothing shoppers, for rainbow fish--and for quieter, plainer minnows, too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST books!!
My son (22 months) LOVES this book.I read this book at least once a week.Great for teaching sharing!
5-0 out of 5 stars An Adorable Book With An Outstanding Message!
This is an adorable book! It is fun and easy to read and it has a great message. This book teaches children to share their gifts and talents with others, and that material possessions are not everything in life. This book taught me that in general, people put too much emphasis on material possessions, when we really should be focusing most of our energy on relationships and more important issues that really matter in the world. This book teaches the importance of friendship and overall happiness in life. If children can understand these concepts it will only help them in life. This book shows a fish who starts out being selfish and is very unhappy because he does not have any friends. Eventually, after discussing his lonliness with someone wiser, he shares his rainbow scales with the other fish, who, in return, invite him to join their circle of friends. This simple plot line is easy for children to understand, yet so very important in life. The layout is also simple; there is one paragraph on every other page and it is written with simple language and simple dialogue. Even though this book typically attracts young readers, the message is universal and appropriate for all ages. This is a fantastic book! I highly recommend it to readers of all ages!

1-0 out of 5 stars Why isn't there are 0 star option?
From Publisher's Weekly, '...the lonely fish seeks advice from the wise octopus, who counsels him to give away his beauty and "discover how to be happy."'

It's not easy for duck parents to find a safe place to bring up their ducklings, but during a rest stop in Boston's Public Garden, Mr. and Mrs.Mallard think they just might have found the perfect spot--no foxes or turtles in sight, plenty of peanuts from pleasant passers-by, and the benevolent instincts of a kindly police officer to boot. Young readers will love the mother duck's proud, loving protection of her wee webbed ones, and those with fond memories of Boston will enjoy familiar locales, from Beacon Hill to Louisburg Square, and over the Charles River--often from a duck's-eye view. 5-0 out of 5 stars A great classic
This edition is a reprint of a classic book telling the tale of a mother duck trying to move her ducklings across the city to a new home. I use to get the biggest bang out of this book, and still do, imagining all the people taking time out to stop for the little duck family. It is a piece of history to hold on to, reminding everyone to stop once in a while and enjoy the small things going on around us, and to respect nature and its animals.Although I don't know if the book was intended to make that big impact, reflecting on it now, especially as many towns expand, certainly brings this up. This is a must have book for the family collection to read before bedtime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quack Quack- A timeless story
This book was one of the few books that was always at the top of the stack at my grandmothers house when I was a child. It tells the story of a mother duck getting all of her ducklings across boston through many dangerous/exciting situations, and the accomidations many kind people made for them. This is a book that should hopefully become one of my children's favorites, and hopefully yours too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice
This book is the one that hooked me on its author/illustrator. In my experience the age 2-3 crowd enjoys it so please do not wait until 4. I must confess to a having a passion for older "retro" books. This one is great because the story conveys a message of family togetherness, a sense of community and safety. The illustration is excellent and represents the Boston area well. While I do not live there I plan on a family vacation there and the book will come along.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not calming
My 15 month old girls really like this book.I like the table of contents tabs and the variety of short stories (and one song).I put it in their bedroom to read at bedtime. They are very active and our bedtime routine is to be quiet and calm to settle them down before sleep. This book is a little bit too lively for our bedtime.I'm going to move this book to our playroom to read during the day with many of our other Boynton favorites. We'll stick with our calm bedtime favorites:Goodnight Moon and I'm Thankful Each Day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for baby AND parents!
Our 8-month-old hears the delightful short stories in "Snoozers" each night as part of his bedtime routine. The book always holds his attention and interest. One of the stories calls for a second voice to help tell it.We've had lots of fun experimenting with this second voice. While one of us reads to our son, the other is tidying up or putting away laundry in his room or the neighboring room.As long as that person is within earshot as the story is being told, they chime in at all the right times. Some nights the voice is unexpectedly boisterous; other nights it's sweet and subtle. One never knows what to expect! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Expression of the Loving Relationship Between Parent & Child
I received this book as a gift and fell in love with it on the first read. At the time, my son was about 18 months old and this book provides a simple, yet poignant perspective of the daily interaction between parent and child. The book offers poetic symbolism to which parents everywhere can relate. "I am your way home you are my new path. I am your dry towel, you are my wet bath. I am your favorite book, you are my new lines. I am your night light you are my star shine." Not only do I love the book, but my son frequently requests it at bed time (and has even learned to say "I luv you"). It seems that he is just as touched by the story's soft images and lovely expression of our relationship as I am. You won't be dissappointed by the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Loved It
I loved this book. It was a great read. Tiria finds the two injured birds, Brantalis and Pandion. She also has a few visions of Martin, who tells her to sail for Green Isle. This lets Tiria go on her adventures while the Abbeybeasts unpuzzle the riddles. It also speeds the plot up a lot. Tiria finds Cuthbert, and sails to Salamandastron. There she picks up 30 more hares, her regalia, and sails to Green Isle. There the book comes to an excellent conclusion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended for fantasy readers in middle school, high school and beyond
Young Tiria Wildlough is an ottermaid touched with destiny: she journeys from Redwall Abbey to an isle where she must fulfill an ancient prophecy to gain her inheritance, and face a wildcat chieftain and his catguard slave masters. Her involvement in an otterclan battle will change her world in this latest Redwall saga for fantasy readers in middle school, high school and beyond.
5-0 out of 5 stars An aquired taste
With Redwall, my experience is that you get into it early, or not at all. I first was introduced to the world of Mossflower when I was eight, and I have never left it. Now I am a teenager, and when I try to get my friends to read it, they call it childish and trite. I realize that the plots do aquire a certain sameness over the course of the series, but I find that incredibly comforting. I know that one or two good beasts will die, but the good guys will win, and the bad guys will get their tails kicked in an extremely satisfying manner. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Crazy Cat Comes Back
I thought this books was very good. I liked this book because it's very creative. Also i liked this book because its a very silly book for you to read at night. Also if you are in a bad mood that dorky Cat in the Silly hat will cheer you up! Dr. Seuss is a very good author. He expresses his amagination through the cat, which makes the story even better. I also liked this story because the stupid cat always makes messes and problems then ends up not only picking up his own mess but everybody elses as well, and make a big problem into a great thing. Therefor even though its a childesh book something in it makes it special and so i enjoyed it very much!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cat-echism
As we covered in our review of the Cat in the Hat (Cat and Chaos September, 2004), the Cat represents Chaos in the otherwise pleasing order of things in Suburban America. Now, Mr. and Mrs. Average have left their offspring home alone again, and the cat comes back. Right here, the average reader has to be questioning why someone hasn't gotten that cat on the list of child-stalkers, or at least had a restraining order taken out against him.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Secrets of the Forest
In the third Warriors book, Fireheart must find the answers to many secrets, though some of them are probably better left undiscovered. At the start of the book, Fireheart sneaks away to visit Ravenpaw, who is still at Barley's farm. Ravenpaw reveals that Oakheart had never been murdered at all, but simply crushed in a rockfall, and then Redtail was murdered by Tigerclaw.
5-0 out of 5 stars Forest of Secrets by "Lightstar"
They're all sooo good! Fireheart is still struggling over Tigerclaw's treachery, Graystripe's passionate affair with Silverstream, and Cinderpaw's lost future because of her injury. Oh, and the mischievous Cloudkit/Cloudpaw. Still, the ending's sooo good. Even though poor Silverstream who just HAD to die! At least her kits (later on Feathertail and Stormfur) survive. Anyway read this one. It's soo suspenseful! And it's soo cool that Fireheart became the Clan deputy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Mysterious Book in the Series
This story is about Fireheart on a quest appointed by himself to find out the truth behind a power-thirsty murder and also to uncover proof and details to back up his story that Tigerclaw is behind the whole treachery. On the way to find the truth he discovers secrets unknown to the rest of the clans (except those who witnessed them) and meets other obstacles on the way. This story is the most suspenseful one in the series along with the perplexing prophesies and the weep-out-loud deaths and partings. There is also a shocking ending which I assure you will enjoy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What Do You Review With A Book Like This
This book is breathtaking, a real stand-out visually -- and at the same time grippingly educational and fun for kids. If you want to see that dawning light of curiousity and hunger for understanding in a child that's just learning that it's fun to learn, there's no better book than this one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful as a read for science class!
I have read this selection to several classrooms. The students not only love to see the pictures, but they LOVE to guess as to the purpose of the tails and it is a great lead in for adaptation.Additionally, (as all elementary students love to do), they love to share their knowledge of the animals and share what they think. After a group read, this book has become popular with students who sometimes shy away from science but just become fasicnated with the facts and cool animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Won over
I had thought about buying this, but always decided not to. My son (5 years old) checked this out of the library on his own. He loves it. The cut-paper artwork is beautiful. Despite the fact-based discussion, it can be a very fun book to read. On the section about whales being able to hear sounds hundreds of miles away, my son always breaks into a whale song of his own. He also stunned his daycare teachers when they went on-line to check out his assertion that crickets had ears in their knees. So there you have it: fun, educational, beautiful! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Who can resist the allure of the hidden wilderness water hole? Certainlynot one rhino. Not two tigers. Nor three toucans. Pretty soon the delicious poolis drawing moose, catfish, pandas, tortoises... and more than 100 other crittersfrom Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and beyond. But is it our imaginationor is that rhino-sized water hole dwindling to a mere shadow of its former self,a puddle not fit for eight ladybugs, let alone 10 kangaroos? As the seasonschange across the world, and the animals get thirstier, the water supplydiminishes. Eventually, even the flowery-shirted frog that has stoicallylingered through the drought packs his suitcase and takes off. The only hope nowis a drop of rain on the parched earth...

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifilly Illustrated Children's Counting Book
I just added this to our collection of Graeme Base Books. We now have three.Anamalia helps teach the ABC's in a fun way -- The Water Hole teaches counting -- and The Eleventh Hour is a thinking book (try to solve the mystery!)All of his books are wonderfully illustrated. All of them have an underlying puzzle/theme to keep the children's interest. My 3 1/2 year old grandson is crazy about the Water Hole.Actually, all three of them are on the top of his list.He can look at the pages for a long time. That is something amazing since he is hyperactive and sitting doesn't happen for long. He's learning and can find many different things on each page.Since my children were young, these books have been cherished.

5-0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Animals
Each animal arriving from the zoo as a possible pet fails to suit its prospective owner, until just the right one is found. Movable flaps reveal the contents of each package.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful book
My 17 month old loves this book. There is something for him to open on each page and he has learned all the sounds of the animals. This book was recently listed in Parent's magazine as "Our Favorite Baby Books of All Time"and I can see why.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for your curious toddler

5-0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES this book!!
I have to rate this a 5.I ordered the dog, birds, and the cats.My son was infatuated by them since he was 3 months old.He especially loves the dog one. He's 11 mo. now and if he's fussing or crying, all i have to say is:This is a Dog... and he just starts smiling, laughing and gives me his full attention to finish the story.I just love the look on his face when i start reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute MUST for your reading collection
Let me start by saying that I get goose bumps at the end of this book EVERY time I read it to my daughter, who is now 4.The illustrations and the rhymes are so wonderful. This was the first of the Bear books that I had read, and I ran right out to get the others, which are all equally fantastic. You won't be disappointed with this one.I am anxiously awaiting the release of Karma's next Bear book...

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great story!
I don't know if I love the prose by Wilson or the incredible illustrations by Chapman more! The combination of the 2 has made another Bear book much requested in my home.
