ripping off Dav Pilkey
This book was terrible, because it is a rip-off of "Dog Breath:The Horrible Tale of Hally Tosis" by Dav Pikley, which came out in 1994!The only difference is that Walter farts while Hally has bad breath.In both stories, the terrible smell prompts families to give the dogs away, and nothing they try gets rid of the terrible odors.In both books, the burgulars break in to the family homes, and are deterred by the animals' bad smell, and the dog saves the day.
Hysterically pleasing.
I bought this book to read to my family over holiday break and sat down with little kids, friends, grandparents and parents present. Not only did I have trouble reading it without snorting but my grandmother almost peed her pants laughing so hard. Acceptance is the only lesson you will get out of this book. This book was written for humor only. If you've ever owned a dog, you know most of this book is exaggeratingly true. Great for all ages. Strange, yet intriguing illustrations.

I really liked the book and it is a very fun interesting book to read. I really liked that it had to do with some sort of sport. I also liked it because it was book were there was all source of action. There was a little boy that lived in the hills and dream of having two coon hounds. He finally worked and saved enough money to buy himself two. He was so excited to get them that he trained them to hunt. The characters were very believable and never doubted that they were making them up. The plot was very interesting because it was about the kid entering a big coon hunt. He won the competition by treeing four coons with his dogs. The major themes of the story were when on of the Prichard brothers accidentally stabbed himself. The author used a very special way of imagery. He made everything be visual in my head. I was all into the story that I didn't want to stop reading. I didn't like by were sometimes they didn't talk about when the dogs killed the coons and how they treed them. They would sometimes leave you think what would happen next or what could of happen.

Geez!
I adore this book. I wrote a reviw on what I think of it a while ago, so you could find it later. But I'm sick of all these people saing there was no action or adventure. What's up with that? And to the people who say there are lost of grammer mistakes in the book, you should check your grammer.

Our son received this book when he was 1 and started loving this book then.It's better than Dr. Suess.HE LOVES IT!

Great First Reader
The words are basic and simple so they are easily accessible to the early reader.And, of course, kids have always liked the drawings in this book.This was a favorite of mine as a child and it is one of the first books my son read on his own.He now enjoys reading it to his brothers.

Give a Dog a Home!
What a lovely way to teach children `tis better to give than receive.' With few words and no rhymes - except for the author/illustrator's name, of course, and delightful black/white/aqua pictures of Claude the Basset and his homeless friend Bummer, all ages can delight in the spirit of kindness and compassion at Christmastime. But am I the only one bummed because Bummer didn't get a home for Christmas?

this was book really good. i liked that claude was really nice to bummer. he have him all of those gifts. what a nice dog. the author did a good job saying that it is better give than get. he used a good example also by useing dogs. overall this is one of the best children books there are. so if you want to read a good book read this one.

Uh Huh Uh Huh Uh Huh (He's a yes man!)
We picked this book up with a CD of the author reading the story through school last year.My son loves it still 6 months later & I find it pretty amusing myself.We have had side discussions about time out, not drawing on the walls, how watching tv is a privilege, using your imagination, and how sassing your parents ("You're not the boss of me!") will get a child in trouble for sure.My son even took it to preschool last year to share with his class.Since it is about cats, I think young girls would be entertained as well.As a parent, I recommend this book particularly if you can get it with the read-along DVD.

Skippyjon Jone in the Dog House
It is as great as the first book my family loved the story. Again it is a book to have at home for children of all ages.

My 6 year old daughter loves Skippy and we were both excited when we saw this, the second Skippyjon Jones book!The first book was fabulous!All of our family (dad, three daughters ranging in ages from 6-16, and myself) adored Skippy.The rhymes are fun to do and the book has a lot of energy, just like the first.Of course this book is similar to the first--it is a children's book and we bought it specifically because we liked the format of the first book.We are already anticipating the third book and will happily buy it when it comes out.Skippy is an extremely imaginative, high-energy, creative boy kitty who, like all little kids at one time or another, does naughty things.That doesn't make this a bad book, if anything, it should be a way to have a conversation with your young child about appropriate behavior.In the end, this was a fun, fast-paced fictional children's book that all three of my children laughed at and listened to when I read it--and that's saying something considering the older two are 11 and 16!!!! ... As good as the first :-)
This is such a cute book.I like it as much as the first book from Gloria.Noelle goes on a treasure hunt looking for gold but finds much more in the way of treasures other than gold.It has a nice underlying message of friendship and kids of all ages (even older kids - like me) will love it.She's got the same kind of beautiful pictures in here and making it visually appealing is as important as the story itself.

Silly book kids will like to read around Halloween.
Poor Oscar Myer wiener dog (a hotdog dog) gets teased all the time. The bully dogs are always laughing at him because of his size and shape. For Halloween, Oscar's mom buys him a costume that is a hotdog roll with mustard on it. Oscar is so embarrassed, but wears it to avoid hurting his mothers feelings. Oscar gets laughed at once again but the story twists to allow Oscar a chance to be a hero. Oscar wins the respect of the bullies and they all share their Halloween dog treats with him. Silly story with decent, basic illustrations.

An adorable book that my preschool children want to hear again and again. This is a standard book in my preschool during the month of October. It is so funny with a lesson to boot!

I never cared for that Mutts comic strip in the newspapers.Too cute and not funny.Maybe it's because I'm an adult.And maybe I have no excuse for reading the comics at all at this point.I don't know.But McDonnell's characters and light touch work well in this context, in a kid's book.

Officer buckle & gloria (Caldecott Medal Book)
This is an excellent book for k-2 classes.Our school has joined our Police Department in (adopt a police dog). This means that we help raise money for the police department to help provide care and the tools that our police dog might need. This book helped our students understand the relationship between the policeman and his dog. The children understood that policeman are there to help us in many ways and giving safety tips is one of the ways they can help us.I like the fact that this book is also mentioned in The Mailbox magazine and you can go on-line to the Mailbox site and get worksheets for the students to do in relation to the story.It is worth buying.
Always Entertaining
We've had this book a few years now, and my son, now 6, never tires of it. It's one of his favorites, and I really like it too. As other reviewers have mentioned, the pictures are great, and there's so much detail in them that they're fun to look at again and again.

Wiggle
This is such a cute book about wiggling, which most toddlers can relate with. It asks silly questions and shows a happy pudgy dog wiggling in lots of different places and ways. The story has a rhyme throughout and is great to read aloud. Your little one will enjoy listening and seeing the cute digitally created illustrations in this fun story.

High energy story that is simply fun to read aloud!
A superbly simple rhyming story about wiggling through your day.I wanted to wiggle with the pictures on each page.I thoroughly enjoyed how Scott Menchin, the artist, used a real rubber ducky in a fake drawn bathtub and a cartoon dog with a real pancake on his head.The mismatched pictures were basic, colorful and fun to look at.The story itself is still in the style of the author's other books, Click, Clack, Moo, but doesn't make you feel as if you have read a different version of it already.Fresh ideas and crisp clean pages will have this book screaming to be read every day.Also recommended to use for teachers of kindergarten or first grade to start off the day with a good wiggle.Wiggling and movement before sitting down all day in class can provide some much needed stress relief...even for kids!

This is such a fun book. Fans of Doreen Cronin work get a special treat with Scott Menchin's illustrations. I absolutely love the pictures in this book! My son LOVES this book!!
I have to rate this a 5.I ordered the dog, birds, and the cats.My son was infatuated by them since he was 3 months old.He especially loves the dog one.He's 11 mo. now and if he's fussing or crying, all i have to say is:This is a Dog... and he just starts smiling, laughing and gives me his full attention to finish the story.I just love the look on his face when i start reading this book.

Well Deserved Newbery Winner,But Some Reservations
Shiloh is the winner of the 1992 Newbery Medal, and it tells the story of Marty Preston, an 11-year-old boy, and his efforts to rescue a mistreated beagle, Shiloh. Though Marty believes Shiloh came to him for help, his father makes it clear that he must not interfere in their neighbor's business, even if that neighbor is Judd Travers, a thoroughly unlikable man who abuses his dogs. When Shiloh comes to him a second time though, Marty has to choose between his love for Shiloh or obedience to his father. Though I had to do some minor editing while reading aloud to my preschool-aged children, this is a very engaging story full of struggle, devotion, and suspense that had my son (and hubby) begging for more.Naylor expertly reeled us in from the first chapter as we got wrapped up in Marty's concern for Shiloh and she kept us expectantly turning the pages to find out what would happen next.

Fun book
My 17 month old just loves this book.He loves lifting the flaps and seeing what animal appears.My only comment is I wished the flaps were made of a stronger, more durable paper.Overall a great book.It was recently listed in Parents magazine as "Our favorite baby books of all time."

Learned how to say No!
My son learned how to say no by reading this book.You are looking for Sally's puppy Spot in this book.There are flaps to open and different animals to discover behind each flap.The book takes you through different parts of the house asking "Is Spot in here".You open the flap and say "No".It's so cute!Definitely a good book for your child.

What a great new addition to our book shelf!
As a mom of a pink princess obsessed 4yr. old, this book is right up her alley! The story is fun and well written. I love this Sassie character! The illustrations are bright and eye catching, such a fun and whimsical book that my daughter hasn't let out of her sight! (let alone, let her younger sister even touch!) We've even decided we're going to buy another copy to donate to her preschool so they can fall in love with it as well!

One of the best children's book illustrations I have ever seen... BRAVO!!
I have been a fan of Dena's work for years. Sassafras's illustrations manage to capture the emotions of the spoiled pink poodle perfectly. The illustrations are colorful, whimsical, and utterly delightful. Some of the best children's book illustrations I have ever seen, and it is now my two children's absolutely favorite book.
