5-0 out of 5 stars Best one yet!
My 7 year old daughter and I collect the Biscuit books, and this is the best one yet!The lift flaps are wonderful! Kids can get really involvedin the book by guessing what is coming next. This is a great book for mydaughter's age, since she can read it herself.Younger children will alsolove it, espcially lifting the flaps on the pages.I work with toddlersand plan on using this book with them when we start talking aboutHalloween. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars learn all about maps from a girl and her dog!
This book is a wonderful, colorful book that is very well written and is a great plot line.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Example of Simple Map-Making
This book follows the path of a dog and the maps made of her neighborhood. These maps are very simple and easy to follow. They are straight forward and amazingly uncluttered. The legends help to show why they are so important in map-making.This is a wonderful guide to introduce children to maps and also to use as an "template" for creating your own maps. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Putter is so sweet
My son and I love the Mr. Putter books. They are nice stories with some cute situations to give the parents a chuckle. These really keep my son's attnetion (the suggested age is 4-8; my son is younger).
3-0 out of 5 stars Ok but not Great
This is our first experience with the Mr. Putter and Tabby series...and I can't say I was all that impressed. As we first encounter him, Mr. Putter admittedly feels he isn't a very good neighbor to Mrs. Teaberry because she's always doing nice things for him (mostly involving yummy treats for him and the cat), and he doesn't really do anything for her (except eat her treats)...so he sets out to do something nice and neighborly for her. What ensues is a rather madcap attempt at "helping" out Mrs. Teaberry with her knitting club meeting.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite Carl book
I just pulled our collection of board books out of the attic to clean up for my youngest child."Carl Goes Shopping" was obviously my son's favorite of his four "Carl" books - it was bent, chewed, food splattered, and basically loved to tatters.I intrepret this condition as a strong recommendation from a toddler.I decided to just throw it out and buy a new copy for my daughter!

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming Carl the Babysitting Rotty
Good dog Rottweiler, Carl,is left beside the escalator in charge of the baby and pram, while Mother shops. Carl and Baby decide to have an adventure. With Baby riding carl like a horse, they tour the department store trying things on and genarally creating havoc until Carl senses it is time to get back to the pram. Mother arrives back at the pram totally unaware the sleeping baby has been out and about and getting into mischief with Carl.....as always Carl will never tell. 3-0 out of 5 stars Not Carl's best effort!
We fell in love with Carl after reading "Good Dog, Carl!"We were amazed when we picked up "Carl's Afternoon in the Park."We were disappointed with this book, however. The story does not flow very easily (why do they spend so much time waiting by the elevators ... is this supposed to be a reality book???).This makes it difficult for a parent to maintain the child's interest in the book. The artwork isn't as detailed as the aforementioned books. Our two-year-old girls quickly dump this book for another.I would suggest previewing any Carl books before buying, to make sure they meet your expectations. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, but too sad for a sensitive child
I truly loved this book, the bittersweet story of the life of a stray female dog who thinks of herself as 'Squirrel.' Her life is one of loss and near-connections with happiness and love, until at last, as an old dog, she finds comfort and a loving home. Squirrel's voice is very real and therefore extremely powerful to a child, and the losses she experiences can be overwhelming. The book says the age range starts at nine, and my daugter is just nine, but she was devastated by the book. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the book...I think it's a treasure, would be a magnificent gift for a woman of advanced years who cherishes everything she's been through to merit that strength. My daughter, on the other hand, sobbed for hours. I'm giving this book 5 stars because it's unique and the voice is so powerful and true. I really loved it.A very special book.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Good
We listened to the book on CD on a very long roadtrip to Virginia. The kids didn't want to get out of the car at rest stops afraid that they would miss something. The narrator had such a soothing voice it was perfect for the character.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
We've got all the Carl books! If you're just starting out I'd recommend Carl's Masquerade or Good Dog, Carl. If you have to have all the Carl books (like we did!), then by all means, go for it.
5-0 out of 5 stars The most beautiful children's book ever
This is just the most beautiful children's book. The watercolor pictures are magical. The story is told mostly in these wonderful pictures. You can tell it slightly differently each time, and your child can make up words when old enough. The pictures tell a story that is full of love, humor, and happiness. It just warms my heart. My son and I love it equally. We received it as a gift and plan to buy the rest of the Carl books. What a joy of a book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love that Carl!

3-0 out of 5 stars Grown up review
I enjoyed reading Brian Jacques' Redwall series so I gave this book a try to see if it reaches any of the Redwall's standards. Overall, I found this book to be mildly entertaining although not too interesting. I think there's a general letdown here. The book starts off great with the story of this poor muted Dutch boy and his dog aboard the legendary Flying Dutchman and their misadventures aboard that ship. Then the ship get cursed and everyone aboard get cursed but the boy and his dog who get eternal life to do good things. All this is pretty well written and pretty exciting stuff. Then the bottom fall out as the story advance from 1620s to 1898 in a mild English village about to be taken over by evil industrists who wants to pave over the entire countryside. In comparison to the begining of the book, this main story is relatively fluffy stuff. If the main villian of the story goes from wicked and cursed Captain of the Flying Dutchman to some weak-minded teen-age bully, the story reflects the degradation as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is awesome!!
Brian Jaques book is filled with something for everybody. Fantasy, Mystery and a little bit of Romance. Neb, who later changes his name to Ben, and his faithful dog Den, who becomes Ned, were on the ship The Flying Dutchman when it was cursed. They, like the rest of the crew, have to sail the seas forever as the undead. Neb and Den, however, are swept overboard by and angel. When they are washed up on shore, they find out that they have to forever roam the earth doing good deeds for other people. When they come to a little village in England, they have to help find the deeds to the town so that it doesn't turn into a factory. But they may not find the deeds in time...

3-0 out of 5 stars It is okay
When I first read this book, I was eleven years old. I adored it. The mystery was intriguing, the settings were vivid, the characters were so perfect. All the things I had come to love about Brian Jacques's books........

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretzel
Pretzel is so cute.He is so big and cute. He had four other siblings. Pretzel started getting wider and wider. He was the tallest dachund ever. Pretzel one his first award at a dog show. All the dogs and the people admired him. Only one dog didn't Greta. Greta didn't like long dogs. Pretzel was a hero after he rescued Greta. See Greta got stuck in a hole. Thanks to his long body he was a hero. Greta and Pretzel got married!

5-0 out of 5 stars Short Story About a Long Dog
I far preferred Pretzel to Curious George because I've always been partial to dogs, especially hounds.I actually knew a little black dachshund named Gretchen and several brown ones named Gretel, so I had to smile at jealous Greta who had a prejudice toward long dogs and rebuffed Pretzel until Pretzel bailed her out of a jam.Greta was also jealous of Pretzel's blue ribbon, which she won in a dog show.Pretzel demonstrates class and character to help one who had never been nice to her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's Spot
I purchased this book 17 years ago for the first time when my daughter was born. I read it to her nightly and by her first birthday she knew the story completely, shaking her head no at each hiding place we'd look in for Spot. She enjoyed looking under the blanket, and in the closet trying to find Spot. It wasn't a book you just read, it was one where she got to pick up flaps to find other animals hiding throughout the house. It was interactive for her and gave us both great joy. It has become my favorite gift for new parents. I wish them the same joy my daughter and I shared reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter's FAVORITE!
My two-month-old daughter got this book for Christmas.I thought she was too young for it.Boy, was I wrong! It is her absolute favorite!!Now at nine months old, she is lifting all the flaps and turning the pages. She gets so excited when I open this book.I cannot recommend it enough. The pictures are bright, the words repetitious, and the flaps sturdy -- a perfect combination for babies and toddlers! From now on, this is the book I am going to buy whenever I need to buy a baby or toddler gift.No one will be disappointed with Where's Spot!

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's Spot? ***VIDEO***

5-0 out of 5 stars Monkey Business
I am 8 years old. I like all of the Beverly Cleary books. This book is funny. I especially liked the part when Ramona pinned a jump rope to her overalls and pretended she was a monkey. She went to the store with her family, and some people joked around and thought she was a new species for sale. Then she thought they were not joking and she ran away from the store. Ramona is four in this book, and she is my favorite character in the Beverly Cleary books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Charming and light, gold-hearted characters
Henry Huggins is part of the world of Ramona and Beezus Quimby, a pair of sisters who have launched a dozen or so books by Beverly Cleary.

Editorial Review

Kipper and his little friend Arnold are on an alphabet search. It allstarts when the young pig Arnold finds an ant. "Aa is for ant. And Arnold."Well, to be perfectly honest, it starts a little earlier, before the book evenofficially begins, when Kipper the pudgy brown dog tells a zebra, "We won't needyou till much, much later." Throughout, as Kipper and Arnold find (and sometimeslose) a buzzing bumblebee, a caterpillar (actually, the caterpillar finds them),a duck, and a menagerie of other alphabetized critters, the earnestly eagerzebra appears, ever hopeful that his day in the sun has arrived. "Nn is for No,not now!" Kipper tells him. After "Juice...And a bit of jam, too," "Splish!Splosh! Splash! And six squishy slugs," and V, which is "very, very hard" (whenthey can't find a volcano, they make a picture of one instead), the zebra asksone last time. "Is it my turn? Is it? Is it?" Kipper is happy to report, "Yy isfor Yes!" The zebra stands proudly in the middle of the page, and everyone says,"Zz is for Zebra!"Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but...
A really nice book that covers each letter of the alphabet. It has easy-to-read large print and clean, tidy drawings of some of the familiar Kipper characters (mainly Kipper and Arnold).
5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet introduction to the alphabet for your toddler
I loved the Kipper A to Z Alphabet Adventure for my toddler. The Kipper illustrations are some of my favorites; they are sweet and gentle. This book is positioned more as a first alphabet book for toddlers. There are only one or two concepts with each letter. However, this is a book with paper pages as opposed to a toddler's board book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Clifford's First Holloween
This book is called Clifford???s first Halloween and it???s about when Clifford wasn???t so big he was a little puppy and he went out for Halloween so he needed a costume. He tried an angel and it didn???t work so he tried a ghost and it was perfect. So they got all of the treats and boat that they could and after she had a party. You learn to have fun in life and you only live it once. I would recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful, detailed paintings illustrate witty story
This is a book for very young children, but the illustrations are so lovely and detailed, and the situations depicted so full of wit and little hidden jokes, that I never get bored with it, even after "reading" it over and over and over again with my toddler. This is my very favorite of the Carl books, because the activities are totally non-materialistic and wholesome (riding a merry-go-round and a train, sharing an ice cream cone, getting sprayed by a hose), and because the park is recognizably inspired by beautiful Balboa Park in my native San Diego, where Alexandra Day lives. It's worth it to get both the board book and regular hardcover editions, just to appreciate the greater detail of the images in the larger format.
5-0 out of 5 stars You can always add your own story
Carl is such a great dog, and the pictures are just beautiful.4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for the imagination
I justed picked this book up at the library. I think it's great to have the majority of the book with no words, just gorgeous, colorful pictures. The more detail in the pictures, the better, as my almost-two year old loves to "find things" in them. With no words, he and I can make up our own story, it lets him decide whats happening. I plan to buy a few of the series to have around all the time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Draw 50 Dogs" of the terrific Draw 50 series
I must admit that for me it takes a bit of work to draw realistic and 3 dimensional pictures. But using the 'Draw 50' books are so very, very easy to use! Lee J. Ames's drawing method is simple with the step-by-step instructions which are easy to follow. For kids 9 and older, "Draw 50 Dogs" by Lee J. Ames is great for drawing in your scrapbook, onto your notebooks, on cards, etc.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I agree with the other reviews, this is a great book in the series. If you have an interest in drawing or know someone who does, you'll find these books to be very useful. My daughter had brought some home from the library & asked for me to buy them. They go step by step with you,in no time you'll have a wonderful picture!

Hank The Cowdog it's a dogs life is a funny book. Drover5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books

5-0 out of 5 stars Anonymous in New York
My kids absolutely love this book.Every time they see a dog they don't know, they ask what it is and look it up in the book. There hasn't been a dog they haven't been able to find yet.The color photographs, not illustrations, are great.I highly recommend this book, especially to kids who love dogs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for doglovers and dog haters
This book is great for dog lovers.I thought that the part about training your dog and such is dull because the pictures and accrual description of the dogs of the book is the best.It is great for someone who wants to get a dog and find which one is perfect for you.People whom already have a dog would not be board in this book. I had already had a dog before I got this and it was fun trying to find my dog and my friend's dog in this book.I think that this book is great for all ages because just looking at the pictures if fun.Anyone who says this is an awful book must be wrong only thing is there are more dogs in the back that do not have a description which means you my not find you dog in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars be not mislead, it is about the breeds, not the care
As much as I like the book, it was not what I though it would be. This is a book about the various breeds explaining thme briefly to the child reader and introducing them by photos. Some of the best photos at a very reasonable price for those looking into the different breeds around! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars my16 month old daughter's favorite
By far my daughter's favorite book. She is 16 months and this is perfect for her. She does LOVE Elmo and puppies, so this is the perfect combination. The flaps are big, so she can do them herself which is great.
4-0 out of 5 stars Toddlers love Elmo and puppies
My 21 month old son loves this book. The flaps are nice and big and easy for him to open.It is a fun, short book with vibrant pictures. The book isn't going to last forever because the pages are fairly thin, but it's a fun book for the price.
4-0 out of 5 stars How could you go wrong with doggies???
Great one for a 15 month old, especially if they like dogs, quick read and a "door" to open on each page.It took us a LONG time to get past the first page though since we had to really study the puppies. It was a while before she realized there were doggies on the other pages too since she loves to look at doggies so much. ...
