5-0 out of 5 stars Don't let me give it away, You must read it for yourself
This is one of my favorite dog books of all time, right up there with White Fang by Jack London. Get ready for a fun ride as you follow the author through the actual experience of a dog that is 'one of a kind' but that we all know in the many ways that dogs reach out and touch our lives by just being themselves. An astonishing, tender, revealing and sensitive book that will have you involved, right there with the owner and his family as each day leads to another amazing event.
5-0 out of 5 stars A charming book
I have not read this book in many years but I remember it as being one of the funniest books I have ever read.My old copy is falling apart, I'll have to get a new copy soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great read-aloud
My husband has been reading this book aloud to our three children, ages 12, 10 and 7.They howl with laughter when he reads it (a sound that is music to the ears) and demand more. The book provides an excellent opportunity to learn about and discuss different ways of life and different times. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Kids Love the Impossibility of It
In spite of the reservations of some earlier reviewers, I'd say our kids love the Carl books precisely BECAUSE nobody would use a rottweiler as a babysitter or as a pint-sized saddle horse for a toddler! We laughed and made a big deal to our kids that nobody would ever do any of this.
5-0 out of 5 stars Miss Green's Class, Lee Elementary School, Azusa, CA
Carl is a big dog who baby sits his family's baby and they have lots of fun adventures. You have to figure out what is going on by the pictures because only the first page has words. You will like this book.Carl is cool and we wish we had a dog like him.

2-0 out of 5 stars Won't show this book to my toddler
The fantasy story in this book is delightful, as are the illustrations. However, the book repeatedly shows a baby riding on a dog. There is no way I'm going to give the idea of riding a dog to my 2-year-old, especially because we have a dog in our household. This book would be better suited for older children who are able to recognize the difference between real and pretend. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Cleary
This was my favorite Ramona book growing up and now it is my daughters' favorite.Girls just never seem to change much, do they? The precocious Ramona is such a "typical" girl, and someone we can all relate to.From her ramblings with peers to her beginning school adventures, she is "everygirl", and so engaging and fun.I look forward to sharing more of Ramona's adventures with my daughters, and reliving my own childhood in the process.
5-0 out of 5 stars A very good book.
Ramona was a brave girl. She tried to be perfect. She got her a new bedroom. She got attacked by a dog and went to school with out a shoe on.And a guy brings back her shoe at school. Also she got mad at her friend. And i liked it when the workers put a hole in the wall.

5-0 out of 5 stars A funny, interesting book!
Ramona the Brave is six years old, just like me.She has brown hair like me, wears dresses like me and is in the first grade like me.

5-0 out of 5 stars A new classic
I sat down and read "Letters to Wolfie" in one day. It's a smooth read - the dialogue flows - the writing is clean, but that isn't why I read it at one sitting. The characters in this book, including one wonderful dog, just grabbed and held on; I couldn't put it down.I laughed and I cried.I believe Ms. Sherlock's book will join the ranks of dog books that we don't ever forget, and that Wolfie can take his place next to Old Yeller and Big Dan and Little Ann.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boys, dogs and war
Sherlock superbly captures and interweaves the emotions of three distinct themes.First, adolescence is confusing and crazy for a young boy, especially when he discovers girls.Second, there is no stronger adolescent bond than a boy and his dog.Third, war is tragic, hurting innocent victims far away from the battle front.Sherlock helps the reader feel the highs and lows of a young man experiencing his first dog, his first love, and his first war. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars CLIFFORD VISITS THE HOSPITAL
Cute book,if you are preparing for a hospital visit and have other more informative books, this is a good one to purchase just for a light read-but still keeping with the subject you want your child to be prepped for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes children's hospital visits easier
If you have a child who is apprehensive about going to the hospital, this is a good book. It teaches children about how a hospital functions and why we need it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Children's tale
My little neighbor used to hate going to the doctor's but when I went to babysit her, and read her this book, she exclaimed that she wanted to go there more. I truly am touched by the fact that she wanted to go then. I reccomend this book to little kids because they are normally the most afraid of going to the mean old doctor's office. "Enchanting" ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful book for toddlers
I love this book, but not as much as Please Baby Please and it may be because we are not dog owners.Nevertheless, my [...] loves this book.Like me, he favors Please Baby more.He may like this book because he recognizes the similarities between the two. That said, we delight in the puppy's antics and read this book often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Please, read it, please!
As a youth services librarian, I am responsible for the toddler storytime and I'm constantly searching for books that work well with large groups. This book is perfect.Even young ones who are scared of dogs can appreciate the joy of a wet, curious puppy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Please, more Please
This was the first book that I bought from the series by Spike Lee and his wife.I fell in love just with the front cover and although you can't judge a book by that, I did and it payed off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read !! Keeps u on your toes!!
I read this book in a 2 hour sitting. I did not once get up. The chapters just seem to fly. I am an adult reader, and it kept me interested, I can just imagine how it is for kids. This is a really involved book. It's about a little boy that gets kidnapped on his way to the bathroom. His older sister is a very smart girl in this story.. She helps save Matt in the end of the book. She puts her life on the line for him. This book is a good read for teachers, parents and children. It reminds us how we need to constantly be aware of our children.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read you child will ENJOY!
In this day and age...no mater how you drill into your kids the stranger danger phrase, you just never know. As a mom, I was introduced to this book by our library who did a book discussion group for grades 6-8. What an EXCELLENT choice! It's a fiction title that can educate your child as to the dangers of child abduction, and how easily a child can be tricked. I used it as an indepth topic of discussion across the dinner table with my 10 + 11yr old boys....and that sparked the 6yr old's attn as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars A person who gets abducted by his own father!
It's about a boy named Matt who is abducted by his father, Danny. Danny took Matt's dog, Pookie , and tied him to the park post. Then he pulls a gun on Matt's mother, then on Matt. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sally Goes to the Vet
Beautiful illustrations, fun story that will appeal to kids & adults alike

5-0 out of 5 stars "Just Close Your Eyes and Think a Happy Thought"
Sally tells this first-person (make that first-dog) tale of her trip to the vet in another Sally series winner from author/illustrator Stephen Huneck. Sally, who is perhaps a black lab mix, is bored inside the house, where the people's homework, urgent memos, passports, old socks, and underwear surround her. Thrilled by a weather change, she goes outside and plays chase with her buddy, tabby cat Bingo. She's so excited that she doesn't see a tree stump, and she falls over, hurt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Give this book to your vet!
I loved the first three sally books, but this one really outdoes itself. Huneck's illustrations are worth framing and thew story lends itself so well to sharing with chilren who are taking their pet to the vet for the first time. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I dig it!
This was given to my son as a gift and it is truly one of the best books we've seen that contains a plethera of construction scenes, roadblocks and comical illustrations that will have you digging for more. Help Lightning find the bones buried in each of Mr. Rally's jobs and count along as they go through a day's work. The classic art technique make this tale a truly timeless treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Rally rules!
After having to renew this book from the library every three weeks for the past several months, I finally decided to buy it!My two year old son absolutely loves it and never gets tired of us reading it to him.He is still noticing new things about the story and the illustrations that keep him interested.Mr. Rally, the backhoe driver is the main character, and he has five big digging jobs to do.We now "play Mr. Rally" by digging in our yard, and see "Rally trucks" at every construction site we pass!We even break up errands on weekends into "five big jobs to do" and count them off as we complete them.I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining even on the 100th reading
The theme is simple:a backhoe driver, accompanied by his dog, have five digging jobs to complete in one day.The story line, however, has a great combination of repetition and flavor. And the ending helps toddlers/preschoolers see the worker at home doing in a small way what he does at work (note the title!).The illustrations are just as important to the story, and offer a secondary plot line, involving the dog, not included in the text. There's plenty here to read but, more importantly, talk about with children. After at least 50 readings (maybe twice that many), I greatly appreciate how much there is in this little book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story!
I have had this book since 1969 when I was 6 years old. It is a treasured part of my childhood! It tells the story of a lovable dog Harry and his family spending an eventful day at the beach. Children and adults alike will love this cuddly tale.

5-0 out of 5 stars An adorable dog, kids, beach, adventure.'nuff said!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rampaging Dog!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a sweet book. Especially when puppies come out of the volcano. It's pretty funny when Dogzilla eats the mice furniture and that's just the appetizer. She eats the whole store! Check out the funny ratings in the beginning of the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Funny a few times
Dogzilla has interesting illustrations and a long series of jokes, funny at different ages. My 2-year old likes most of it, except the bits with no dog in them (note that although she is dog-crazed, other books do not have to have a dog on every page; she likes good text, too). I found it funny the first few times, but it doesn't hold up to the number of readings she requires to digest a book. We tire of it and hide it before she is done with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best kids books in a long time
"Dogzilla" is hillarious to say the least. We discovered this book quite by accident while waiting for an appointment. We read this book five times before our name was called and laughed until the tears were streaming down our cheeks. I had to write down the information before leaving because we had to get our own copy. Well thanks to grandparents and amazon we've laughed our way through this book several more times. Even sent it to school with my four year old to share with his class and they laughed their way through it too. well worth the money as it will quickly become a treasured favorite for the whole family. most definitely five stars. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Gripping story of survival
London is a tremendously talented writer and his understanding of life matches his tremendous knowledge of the snow-enshrouded world of the upper latitudes. His writing is beautiful, poignant, and powerful, yet also somber, morose, and infinitely real. This isn't a story to read when you are depressed. Although The Call of the Wild is a short novel and on the surface a dog's story, it contains as much truth and reality of man's own struggles as that which can be sifted from the life's work of many other respected authors. The story he tells is stark and real, and as such, it is not pretty picture he paints, nor an elevating story he writes.
4-0 out of 5 stars The call of the wild
This story is about a dog named Buck.He was a huge St. Bernard, four years old and he lived in the South. One day he was kidnapped from his home by gardener's helper and sold as a sled dog in the cold North.Since this time his life was hard.Everday he tried to survive. He was hungry, he was beaten and he fought with the other dogs.Soon he was strong, smart and the leader over the team of dogs.

This has been my 2 year old's favorite book since she was 10 months old.Seeing all her friends from Blue's Clues makes it interesting, and the colors are bold and the illustrations just like the show. The jillions of flaps are just what my curious girl needs. Many of the flaps are bent or missing now, but I plan to just buy a new one when it gets too beat up.It's a very large book though, can be hard to tote around when your on outings or trips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite Book of My 16-Month Old Grandson
Bought this book for my 16-month old grandson and he was facinated from the beginning.Loved the tabs that lift up and finding the pictures underneath. My daughter put it away for a few days and pulled it out as her "secret weapon" for a recent plane trip!I can highly recommend this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet and meaningful
This is a great story about believing in yourself that manages to get the message across without lecturing. The rhymes are outstanding and the illustration are beautiful with lots of detail to discover. Both our [...] love the book. The language is simple enough for a first grade reading level, by the way. Jez Alborough hardly ever misses, and this book is definitely a score.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, and you can too!
Jez Alborough is among my favorite authors of children's books. In this book he has imagined a tale so eloquent and so memorable that it will quickly become a family favorite. The illustrations are beautifully painted, made especially vibrant because of Alborough's heavy use of greens and blues. The author has perfectly imagined the characters expressions, from curious glances and despondent faces to joyous looks of wonder and satisfaction. This book has to be read aloud! Having presented this title dozens of times to numerous audiences, I can tell you that this is among the best books I have read to children and their parents. My audiences always applaud my telling of this book, largely I think, because of the passion I put into reading it, which is made easy by the rhythmic text and the dialogue that begs to be voiced. The surprise ending is always a hit with my listeners and brings relevance to the title. This is a must-have title for your child's library!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Absolute Favorite!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars high-octane thriller meets environmental lessons. Awesome!
It's been thirty years since I was a teenager, but this book really impressed me both as entertainment and moral guidance. There is plenty of action and excitement. Klass explores the raging hormones, longing for love and understanding, desire to understand the adult world and accept its burdens, and the wonderful newness of being a young man. He is not afraid of emotions, as boys have them too.

It's always interesting to read the blurbs on the front of a book. You know the ones I mean; the recommendations from fellow authors about why you should pick up a copy of the book in question. What's even more interesting is when the blurb comes from someone other than an author. In the case of FIRESTORM, the first in The Caretaker Trilogy by author David Klass, the recommendation comes from Greenpeace.Yes, the same Greenpeace International that is dedicated to protecting and saving the Earth from the harmful practices that threaten to destroy it.If that isn't enough to get your attention, then maybe you should turn your ear towards Jack Danielson, the hero of FIRESTORM:

4-0 out of 5 stars Capt. Dog by Cat
My teacher read this to our 4th grade class. It was action packed and we learned about who Lewis & Clark met and where they went. I especially liked that it was told in parts by Seaman, the dog.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Captain's Dog
An excellent book for many ages, especially for young people who love dogs.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Really Good Book
Last year in fourth grade our teacher read us this book. I really love the book The Captain's Dog. I like history and learning about Lewis and Clark, so I learned a lot about their adventure 200 years ago. I learned a lot of new stuff about Meriwether Lewis and William Clark's jobs and what they had to do on their journey. ... Read more
