    Editorial Review

"Did you ever fly a kite in bed? Did you ever walk with ten cats on your head?" Such are the profound, philosophical queries posed in this well-loved classic by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel. While many rhymes in this couplet collection resemble sphinx-worthy riddles, Seuss's intention is clear: teach children to read in a way that is both entertaining and educational. It matters little that each wonderful vignette has nothing to do with the one that follows. (We move seamlessly from a one-humped Wump and Mister Gump to yellow pets called the Zeds with one hair upon their heads.) Children today will be as entranced by these ridiculous rhymes as they have been since the book's original publication in 1960--so amused and enchanted, in fact, they may not even notice they are learning to read! 4-0 out of 5 stars A review of the Vinyl Bath Book edition only!
Since my 7-month-old still thinks books are for putting in your mouth, I've been buying him bath books. I bought this one sight unseen from Amazon, and as much as I love the classic "One Fish, Two Fish," I was a little disappointed. First, the book is small, even for a bath book (about 4x6 inches -- the "8.3 x 4.8" dimensions in the Amazon description are just plain WRONG). Second, the book was shorter than I expected. It consists only of the first 8 pages of the original "One Fish." Of course, the baby doesn't know how abridged the book is, so he enjoys it. And the colors are bright, the printing is sharp, and the overall package is high-quality and holds up to lots of handling. But there's not much there to read to him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible
I was in awe when my son received the Dinosaur book for Christmas from his Grandfather. I saw this book in a Parents magazine and had to get it based on the fact that the Dino one was incredible. My 3 year old loves it! It's not a book to let him play with unless you want it destroyed. Instead, this book allows us to make some quality time for each other when we sit down and look through it. It's very informational, and as he grows older I'm sure he'll read it, but at this point the pop-ups are worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves the book
This is a very interesting book.My 5-year old has really enjoyed the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece of Pop-up books.
A Great Book to Read With the Kid on your lap. Probably best for kids in the couple or three grades. Best for kids on your lap because pop-up books are rather fragile. Grabbing the nose of the shark and using it as a handle to lug the book around is likely to lose the nose to your shark.

    Editorial Review

If you read this very popular book just before bed, and the light is still on in the hallway, you can make the rainbow scales glitter on the page, and realize why the Rainbow Fish was so proud of his beautiful decoration. Sometimes, though, being too proud of outside beauty can blind a fish, or a child (or even, heaven forbid, a parent) to the beauty people hold inside. That's the lesson of this simple tale, imported from Switzerland. It's a useful one for future sneaker and designer clothing shoppers, for rainbow fish--and for quieter, plainer minnows, too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST books!!
My son (22 months) LOVES this book.I read this book at least once a week.Great for teaching sharing!
5-0 out of 5 stars An Adorable Book With An Outstanding Message!
This is an adorable book! It is fun and easy to read and it has a great message. This book teaches children to share their gifts and talents with others, and that material possessions are not everything in life. This book taught me that in general, people put too much emphasis on material possessions, when we really should be focusing most of our energy on relationships and more important issues that really matter in the world. This book teaches the importance of friendship and overall happiness in life. If children can understand these concepts it will only help them in life. This book shows a fish who starts out being selfish and is very unhappy because he does not have any friends. Eventually, after discussing his lonliness with someone wiser, he shares his rainbow scales with the other fish, who, in return, invite him to join their circle of friends. This simple plot line is easy for children to understand, yet so very important in life. The layout is also simple; there is one paragraph on every other page and it is written with simple language and simple dialogue. Even though this book typically attracts young readers, the message is universal and appropriate for all ages. This is a fantastic book! I highly recommend it to readers of all ages!

5-0 out of 5 stars adorable
I had Dr. Seuss' books as a child and want my baby to enjoy them as much as I did. This nursery book is brightly colored, very sturdy and my 5-mo old keeps reaching for it. The plastic fish on the top make noise and baby loves to keep count with them. I'm very very happy with this purchase. I also reccomend other board books form this nursery collection.

This was one of my favorites when I was small -- couldn't read yet, but the pictures told the story very well (Now that I CAN read, guess what the first thing was that I did when I got my copy?!) Now I am sharing some of my favorites with my nieces.I only hope they grow to love books as much as I.

I like this book because its about a fish and a fish is one of my favorite animals because of how colorful they can be. I also like this book because it describes events in the story so well. This book is adventurous. It makes me want to have an adventure just like this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Colorful, Silly Fish Illustrations Grab Baby's Attention!
My 19-month old is WILD for this book; it's the reigning favorite at the moment. The silly fish pictures are great and she loves the pages where there are LOTS of fish on the page (including the inside back pages), pointing out to me her favorites from the story. She also has fun picking out the "extra" fish that look like strawberry fish, pineapple fish, etc.The sing-songy rhymes are as fun as the artwork and a definite winner in our house!

    5-0 out of 5 stars This one's a winner!
Our 16-month-old son absolutely adores this book! We read it using silly voices for each fish, and he just smiles all the way through. When he wants to read this book, he'll bring it to my husband or me, making kissing noises. It's a shame that this book isn't available in a board book format--we've had to tape and re-tape several of the pages from all of the use it gets!

This is a great book if you have small children. They love it because it's fun to read out loud and it isn't so long that you get out of breath. This is a must have that I enjoy reading over and over again and my little ones never get tired of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a Classic
I loved this book as a child, and now my daughter loves it, too.A really good lesson; we don't always get what we want in life, and sometimes that's for the best.Beautiful illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Self concensus at work
An email friend used the term "self consensus" to describe the process by which we start with a known person- ourselves- and move in small steps away from that to construct our image of another person we know via email. This book is a good illustration of that idea.

Mr. Putter and his fine yellow cat, Tabby, both getting on in years, love going to the tropical fish store. Mr. Putter owned goldfish as a boy, andTabby loves watching the fish because it makes "her whiskers tingle and her tailtwitch." 4-0 out of 5 stars Read-aloud for library
I used the book for my read-aloud story time at the public library. The children, ages 4 through 9, enjoyed the story and the illustrations. It would be an easy book for a reader at about a 1st grade level. The "bat, bat, bat" that the cat did on the fish bowl needed to be explained to the youngest listeners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Endearing! Enchanting! I wish I had these when I was a kid!
For last Christmas, I gave my 2 (nearly 3) year old daughter all the Mr. Putter and Tabby books available -- and I eagerly await the newest release: "Write the Book," (because I enjoy them so much myself!) My daughter had all of the books memorized by Spring. The three that make her laugh the most are "Pick the Pears," "Paint the Porch," and, of course, "Feed the Fish." While reading "Feed the Fish," she laughs as soon as we turn to the page were Tabby's pupils are shaped like goldfish silhouettes. Yesterday, I heard her reciting the part where Mr. Putter had to put a pillowcase over the fish bowl so Tabby would finally follow him to bed, although we have not read this particular book for a couple of weeks.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for cat lovers!
It's true, my six-year-old loves this book. The truly great thing about it, though, is that it is thoroughly entertaining for the adults reading along with her.Everyone who has ever loved a cat, regardless of their age, should read this book. It's priceless. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Unexamined metaphysics
My boy brought this home the school library and the title of the book intrigued me. What is it like to swim by swishing your tail, round and round, in a small little bowl; or, eating fish flakes sprinkled from above when the person decides it's time to be fed; or to live in an environment that deteriorates day after day into murkiness until you are suddenly scooped up by a net and put into an even smaller container while your bowl is being cleaned? What IS it like to be a fish? Alas, there are no answers to that question found in this book -- pity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bright Colors Kids Love
My 22 month old Son LOVES this book.We have lots of books, but he always picks this one - every day and every night - before nap time and before bed.Sometime he takes the book to bed with him, and when I go to get him up there he is looking at all the Bright and Beautiful colors in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully delightful book for the little ones
My older son brought this book home from the library to read to his 27 month old brother. My younger son absolutely and totally ADORES this book. Not only does this book help teach your little one to count and colors, but it also gives them a sense of rhyming words and the fish also bring a plus side to it. A must have for any parent with little ones. This book will keep them amused for hours on end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby loves it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Magical!
This book was spectacular from cover to cover! The illustrations are so rich and detailed, that it would be an ideal storytime read.Gall's narration is complex and elegant, and the pace is fast without being too fast.I review quiet a few picture books each month (60+), and very very few manage to have that illusive magical quality that we all remember from our favorite children's books. This book deserves to be a new children's classic, heartily recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Award winner Chris Gall has written and illustrated Dear Fish, a fun and quirky tale.
Peter Allan is at the beach with his family and loves to explore the creatures in the tide pools. He extends an invitation to them by placing a note in a bottle and guess what-they actually come to visit! One after another, the stinky creatures crawl out of the sea into Peter Allan's bathroom, into his friend's Sally house, at the ball -park and even at the rodeo.
5-0 out of 5 stars A compelling story of an invite too good to be true
When a boy writes a letter to the underwater fish inviting them to visit, he doesn't necessarily expect their enthusiasm; but the lure of mother's pies draws even the largest fish from the ocean and soon a very fishy problem is close at hand. The large fishy drawings are zany, fun embellishments to a compelling story of an invite too good to be true.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is my toddler's favorite book!
Again and again, "This Little Piggy" is pulled off a shelf and dragged across the house. "Book?" "Book?" "Book?" (which really means "Mama, do you have five minutes to pull me on your lap and read my favorite story to me?").
5-0 out of 5 stars Great art!
