4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Companion to Dragonology
I originally bought this for my nephews, who have a fascination with dragons and such at the moment. It's definitely a result of the Harry Potter phenomenon, but the similarity ends at its "magical" quality. Its intent is the opening of minds to the hidden worlds of the imagination, and a rekindling of young peoples' interests in areas of mythology and classic literature. Supposedly the work of the last dragonmaster, the book aims to dispel the myths on dragons, recalling Hagrid's comments that they are "very misunderstood creatures". While Dragonology has lots of bells and whistles and moving parts, this is, as it says, more a handbook, and not as fun as its predecessor. It is great for stimulating the imagination of children (of all ages, apparently), but it's a slightly more involved text than Dragonology, and therefore likely to appeal to children 10+. It's artwork and some of its content appears based on The Flight of Dragons, by Peter Dickinson, upon which Discovery's Dragon's World DVD was also based. Both of these are great additions to this book, if you can get them.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Companion to "Dragonology"
I love this book! I think it might even be more fun than "Dragonology"! The illustrations are still excellent and all the dragon lore is there, but this time, you get to apply your knowledge! The Dragonology Handbook teaches you how to be a Dragonologist through puzzles, dragon riddles, and learning how to write in Dragon runes. The book also has more information on the different dragon species and some other species that weren't described in "Dragonology". It also says where these dragons can be found and what they prey on.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good companion to Dragonology
This book is very clever. It expands on the topics covered in "Dragonology". There are items to pull out and there is another section on dragon writing to translate. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great books for every child!!!
The books are great! This volume : The Going to Bed Book, But Not the Hippotamus, Opposites, Horns to Toes; I must say that I am going to get more of Sandra Byonton's books. The rhymes are short and simple but nice and I think this is important for infants as their attention span is pretty short. The illustrations are wonderful and kids won't go tired of them forever as they are cartoon characters. My 8 month old and 6 years old daughters to enjoy listening to the rhymes and looking at the pictures as I enjoy reading the books to them. Get these volume now.....

5-0 out of 5 stars great for under two
I bought these books for my daughter and she just loves them. Plus, they're so easy for her to handle since they are board books. She loves to just sit in her chair and "read" them by herself too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boynton Books are Best
These books are great for the 0-3 age group. They have cute little animals that are likable and just look like they would be fun to know in person. The books are short with catchy rhymes. They are easy to read and easy to memorize. For those with a short attention span, like the active toddler age, these books are perfect.

3-0 out of 5 stars A lesser spinoff from "If You Give a Pig a Pancake", but my daughter still loves it!
Our first "If you give" book was the "Pancake" title. It was an instant hit with my daughter. We moved on to "Party". It is definitely good and entertaining, but it definitely reads and feels like a spinoff. Where "Pancake" flows out of a single gesture, "Party" feels forced, and just doesn't seem as funny and delightful. Plus, in this book, the pig somehow seems more demanding and selfish than in the Pancake book. Hard to explain unless you read it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Livin High on the Hog?
Living high on the hog. This brings new meaning to those words and that's a good thing. It's not the "gimme gimme" attitude and materialistic lifestyle that makes this little piggy happy, oh no.It's just enjoying life by creating happiness in everything you do while remembering that sharing your heart with others doubles the fun!
5-0 out of 5 stars ...will put visions of celebration into each readers head, leaving everyone eager to have a party of their own!
Everyone knows that pigs can be a handful. Which is why it's probably never a good idea to throw a pig a party. For if you give a pig a party, she's bound to want balloons to accompany said party. And, once she's got balloons, she'll, of course, want to decorate the entire house. Then, once the decorating is done, she'll want to get all dolled up - in her favorite dress. And once she's done that, she's going to want to call all of her friends on the phone, and invite them over to celebrate. But if they're not home...well, she'll just have to go out and look for them. Which can only mean trouble.

4-0 out of 5 stars Big Box of Boynton
Barnyard Dance! & Pajama Time! are a couple of our all time favorites. Excellent and fun!Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs is just OK in my opinion and that's why this group of books received a 4 star rating instead of 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barnyard is Best Boynton Book!
We (my one year old) daughter and I love the Barnyard Dance! She actually started liking the book when she was about 9 months. I borrowed it from the public library, thought it was the best Boynton book ever and asked for it for Christmas. The number two choice, in my opinion is "One, Two, Three."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Baby Books, Great Memories
We received Barnyard Dance! and Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs! when our son was born.We started reading them to him before he could talk. There is a wonderful, enchanting way that Boynton uses words and drawings to create an exciting connection for young children. In addition, I will remember until the day I die the joy of my son pointing at words or characters as I read the text with enthusiastic expression.Six years later, our daughter was born and we renewed our connection with Boynton's books with the same heart-warming experience. These are simply great pre-reader books. Both my wife and I recommended them and we have given sets to friends who have also found them to be fun and joy-full. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A DELIGHTFUL BOOK - WOULD BE A GREAT PRESENT FOR THE DRAGON LOVER
I was truely impressed with this offering. This is a wonderful little book about just what the title indicates "Dragonology."The entire book is producted in a sort of medieval mode, with wonderful illustrations. The books if filled with maps, puzzels, drawings, anatomy lessons (dragons of course), life styles (again, dragons) types, habits, origins, lore and even riddles. The work is quite a combination of originality and pure imagination from the author. This is one of those books that might first appear to be classified as juvinal, but it is so much more. The art work alone is worth the price of the book. The text is imaginative yet quite realistic in it's presentation. As I said, I was truely impressed with this one and highly recommend it.This would make a wonderful gift for any lover of dragons, dragon lore or for that matter just a fun read.

5-0 out of 5 stars LET YOUR IMAGINATION SORE!
If you like dragons, this is for you. Dragonology is a book for any age. It's cool that they show dragon skin and dragon dust. This book gave me more info on dragons, and I believe in dragons. I read in one night and I am always going back to it. I love dragons more, than I did, before I read the book. This book will leave you with all smiles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating look at the "real" world of the legendary dragon
"Authored" by noted dragonologist "Dr. Ernest Drake," "Dragonology" is a short but concise "encyclopedia" for anyone interested in the winged creatures of international lore.Divided into eight chapters, covering such diverse topics as "dragons of the world," "dragon biology and physiology," and "dragon behaviour," the book is profusely illustrated and generously features such hands-on additions as "dragon dust" and pieces of "dragon skin," all designed to satisfy even the casual dragon fan.

This was my first purchase from Amazon and I was very pleased with the professional service and the quick delivery of my order

5-0 out of 5 stars A staple for every home library
How wonderful it has been to get reintroduced to all of Potter's sweet characters. My mom had a small board book collection when I was growing up and I forgot all about these stories. There is just something so warm and relaxing about them.My four year old is loving them (they're a bit too long for my two year old's attention span and she usually wanders away after awhile). However you just can't go wrong with this book--it's a classic and definitely timeless. My only suggestion is that sometimes a "complete" edition is the cheaper route to go, but it does make for a heavy book for little ones to tote around or try to flip through. So if you are looking for something to be a more kid friendly you may want to purchase the individual stories separately.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter

1-0 out of 5 stars Board book is far off from description Amazon uses (hardcover)
I remember liking this book as a child and I thought I could get this book for my daughter. The board book has been so abridged that it lacks a lot of things that I thought were funny.AND what about that "climatic ending" where the apples all topple - Not there! I wouldn't even recognize the wording in the board book as Dr. Suess's.

4-0 out of 5 stars should be part of every pet-loving child's and adult's library
this book really helped me get over the loss of my beloved pet fish, Mr. Furious. Well, not "get over"- those who've loved animals know there is no "getting over" the loss of a dearly departed pet. There is only solace in the good memories we have of them. I enjoyed this lovely book. It gave a very warm and hopeful portrait of the after life. I intend to buy a copy for myself and for my young niece who recently lost her favorite kitty. Sylvia is a terrific author!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for children with loss of pet
This book is great if you have children who has lost a pet or a loved one that has a hard time coping with a loss of their pet. They do a wonderful job easing the pain and explain that our pets will also be on the other side for us.The loss of our pets are similar to a loss of a person, we interact with each on a daily basis. If any of you have pets then you know each one has their own personality and are the closest thing to angels. They protect us and always have unconditional love for us. The book is full of drawing and pictures for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Collection!
I have been reading this book aloud to my 8yo daughter and 6yo son.Even though my son initially showed no interest when I brought the book out (robots and dinosaurs are more his thing) he has been riveted, and my animal-loving daughter has been especially interested in each story, and each picture.
5-0 out of 5 stars This gift to our grandchildren will be special.
I've had the pleasure of reading all of the James Herriot books. The stories and wonderful illustrations in this book
5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding book to read to small ones at bedtime
With two small boys, I think I've read or have become acquainted with much of the literature available for parents who read to their children in the evening. This setting of James Herriot's stories, with their accompanying illustrations, is top notch, head and shoulders above anything else I've seen. The stories are heartwarming but realistic enough to avoid being saccharine--animals die or get injured--and the overall message is a good one:it's our responsibility to care for God's creation, especially the animals we have. ... Editorial Review

One night, the sounds of New York City--the rumbling of subway trains, thrumming of automobile tires, hooting of horns, howling of brakes, and the babbling of voices--is interrupted by a sound that even Tucker Mouse, a jaded inhabitant of Times Square, has never heard before. Mario, the son of Mama and Papa Bellini, proprietors of the subway-station newsstand, had only heard the sound once. What was this new, strangely musical chirping? None other than the mellifluous leg-rubbing of the somewhat disoriented Chester Cricket from Connecticut. Attracted by the irresistible smell of liverwurst, Chester had foolishly jumped into the picnic basket of some unsuspecting New Yorkers on a junket to the country. Despite the insect's wurst intentions, he ends up in a pile of dirt in Times Square.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Falls Short of Wind in the Willows
When I read Wind in the Willows, I thought no other book could match its calm, slow, elegant pace, but this book does. However, I didn't find it measuring up to Wind in the Willows as far as a literary work goes. Why not? They're both written very eloquently (although I did think Wind in the Willows had some unnecessarily advanced vocabulary) and they both had outstanding and lovable characters. What's A Cricket in Times Square missing?I looked at all of the reviews here, and couldn't figure out why I didn't want to give A Cricket in Times Square any more than three stars. Then it hit me.Location!Lack of location to be exact.

5-0 out of 5 stars Toching Spirit Bear, and Me
Cole has many problems. His dad beats him, his mom says nothing about it, so his anger towards his parents is taken out on the world, and specifically at a schoolmate, Peter. Peter tells on Cole, so Cole smashes his head into the sidewalk, causing severe damage both emotional and physical. When Cole is put into a detention center, Garvey, a man working at the detention center, tells Cole about a Tlingit Indian justice ritual called Circle Justice. Cole will do anything to get of prison. He agrees to his terms and is sentenced to a year of banishment on an island off the coast of Alaska. There he encounters a Spirit Bear. After almost being killed by it, Cole is left thinking about his life, his choices, and the healing ramifications of Circle Justice.

It is a fun book, lots of colors and pop ups. However, the pop ups are thin and I can see a child easily grabbing them and tearing them off.It is a good, entertaining book though.

Rebecca Estelle hates pumpkins. "What's not to like?" you may be thinking. Certainly, pumpkins are benign, as far as gourds go, and they make for delicious pies. But if you were forced to eat Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great story about giving and letting go.
Linda White, the author, did a superb job of telling this story, which was inspired by her aunt during the days of the depression. An elderly woman, Rebecca Estelle, loves her garden. She enjoys planting her flowers and food for the year with her pet cat as her company. Rebecca hates pumpkins because her family had to eat nothing but that for years when they were poor. She has vowed to never even look at another pumpkin again, but her kindness takes over and as the story unravels she realizes that pumpkins hold a special place in her heart. Adorably detailed pictures with a great feeling of autumn and fall days.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is a good book to share with kids in the Fall.I read this to my kids once and they were hooked.Ages 4-8 is right on target with this book.I did give this one as a gift to a five year old girl who has a birthday in the Fall and we were told that she loved it. When her parent's took her pumpking picking she kept talking about story in this book.My kids did the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic fall book.
Too Many Pumpkins really captures the fall/Halloween mood. The illustrations are marvelous--I love the look of the exploding pumpkins, and the cat's colors and expressions are perfect!Descriptions detailing all the pumpkin dishes the woman makes add to the feeling, and I loved seeing all her jack-o-lanterns!The townspeople really seem like ordinary people anyone could run into--I especially like the dad in the down jacket and his young child.
