5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for learning
Our son started "playing" with these when he was 9 months old. They are just beautiful as other reviews say and they have helped our son learn his animals. He spends endless amounts of time sorting through them, looking at them (he loves the pictures) and carrying them around the house. Now at 15 months he can pick some of the animals out the pile and bring them to you when you ask.Since he's learning both spanish and english if you ask for the horse in either language he will sort through them until he finds it and then bring it to you (very proudly I might add).He would not have learned this much about animals without these cards!Well worth the $10.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful pictures
The pictures are gorgeous. The cards are large enough for little hands to handle easily and sturdy enough to resist bending. My 2.5 y/o son got around that, of course, by dropping them on the floor and prancing around on them.He loves to name the animals on the cards and does his little dance on them each time he is finished. They held up well and are only slightly bent here and there.Definitely a good investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Pictures!
The cover does not do these flash cards justice. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. The cards are very sturdy & hold up well to little hands. The kids love naming the animals and are happy looking through these on their own.Only drawback - they get spread out all over.It would be great if they were on a binder ring! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story
This book is simply a delight! I bought it for my granddaughter who is 9 months. She loves for me to read it to her. We just love it!!

2-0 out of 5 stars The story behind the story is more interesting
This book is simply not that great. The rubber ducky sound at the end is cute but nothing to applaud. The art is borderline awful and, while the story behind the story is cute, it just did not come out great as a children's book. I must confess, I am not an Eric Carle fan though, with the exception of The Very Busy Spider, which I enjoyed. To put it simply, don't bother. The two redeeming qualities of this book are 1) it teaches counting well (the first rubber duck, the second rubber duck) and it exposes the kids to animals you do not see every day (octupus, flamingo, pelican).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Emergent Readers
As an Early Childhood professional I am always looking for goods books rich in language, story and pictures. This book is one of Eric Carle's best books.I am a teacher/owner of Oceanside Pre-Kindergarten a unique Literacy based program to help children prepare for Kindergarten in today's intense learning environment in formal education.

2-0 out of 5 stars The hippo needs some real friends.
This book gets two stars for being well-written, having cute pictures, and being fun to read. However, I am concerned about the content. If you want to bring up your children to resist peer pressure, then this might not be a good choice.
1-0 out of 5 stars Negative messaging
I first read this when a friend bought a set of Sandra Boynton books for her soon. She and I were both horrified by the ending.
5-0 out of 5 stars What rhymes with Hippopotamus

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Parents & Educators
First I will begin by listing the programs/CD's/books that I have purchased from Lite Books.4 books:A Boy and a Bear, The Affirmation Web, A Boy and a Turtle and The Goodnight Caterpillar plus 5 audio CDs:Indigo Dreams, Indigo Ocean Dreams, Indigo Dreams: Garden of Wellness, Indigo Teen Dreams and Indigo Dreams: Adult Relaxationplus:Children's Stress Awareness Curriculum Designed for Youth Education.
5-0 out of 5 stars Feel Good ,Relaxing Story!
A Boy and a Turtle is a wonderful addition to our bedtime routine. My kids love the rainbow and the fact they are just tickled thatturtle is copying the boy as they learn to relax. My son said that the colors make him feel happy and my daughter wants to read it again. I personally feel my own stess levels drop as I read the story to them. The author takes a difficult concept(visualizing or imagining) and makes it simple.I have even reminded them to copy the turtle when we are in the car and things are getting loud. It works. Great stress management tool!

5-0 out of 5 stars I have every book of Lori Lites Eagerly awaiting more....
My daughter went thru a trauma when she was 4 y/o and I was looking for something to relieve her anxiety and found Lori's site and ordered the caterpillar book and CD.My daugher just ate it up.She had me play it every night at bedtime for 6 months then we got the others that came. Now I refer them to every mother I meet who tells me about their child's anxiety about minor things to major things.

5-0 out of 5 stars sandra boynton books
i have found the quality of any boynton product to be good and the books are great for little ones.we have quite a few books and have started with the plush toys.. all are a big hit for the child and adults.. thank youkaren colucci

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not calming
My 15 month old girls really like this book.I like the table of contents tabs and the variety of short stories (and one song).I put it in their bedroom to read at bedtime. They are very active and our bedtime routine is to be quiet and calm to settle them down before sleep. This book is a little bit too lively for our bedtime.I'm going to move this book to our playroom to read during the day with many of our other Boynton favorites. We'll stick with our calm bedtime favorites:Goodnight Moon and I'm Thankful Each Day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for baby AND parents!
Our 8-month-old hears the delightful short stories in "Snoozers" each night as part of his bedtime routine. The book always holds his attention and interest. One of the stories calls for a second voice to help tell it.We've had lots of fun experimenting with this second voice. While one of us reads to our son, the other is tidying up or putting away laundry in his room or the neighboring room.As long as that person is within earshot as the story is being told, they chime in at all the right times. Some nights the voice is unexpectedly boisterous; other nights it's sweet and subtle. One never knows what to expect! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Loved It
I loved this book. It was a great read. Tiria finds the two injured birds, Brantalis and Pandion. She also has a few visions of Martin, who tells her to sail for Green Isle. This lets Tiria go on her adventures while the Abbeybeasts unpuzzle the riddles. It also speeds the plot up a lot. Tiria finds Cuthbert, and sails to Salamandastron. There she picks up 30 more hares, her regalia, and sails to Green Isle. There the book comes to an excellent conclusion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended for fantasy readers in middle school, high school and beyond
Young Tiria Wildlough is an ottermaid touched with destiny: she journeys from Redwall Abbey to an isle where she must fulfill an ancient prophecy to gain her inheritance, and face a wildcat chieftain and his catguard slave masters. Her involvement in an otterclan battle will change her world in this latest Redwall saga for fantasy readers in middle school, high school and beyond.
5-0 out of 5 stars An aquired taste
With Redwall, my experience is that you get into it early, or not at all. I first was introduced to the world of Mossflower when I was eight, and I have never left it. Now I am a teenager, and when I try to get my friends to read it, they call it childish and trite. I realize that the plots do aquire a certain sameness over the course of the series, but I find that incredibly comforting. I know that one or two good beasts will die, but the good guys will win, and the bad guys will get their tails kicked in an extremely satisfying manner. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What Do You Review With A Book Like This
This book is breathtaking, a real stand-out visually -- and at the same time grippingly educational and fun for kids. If you want to see that dawning light of curiousity and hunger for understanding in a child that's just learning that it's fun to learn, there's no better book than this one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful as a read for science class!
I have read this selection to several classrooms. The students not only love to see the pictures, but they LOVE to guess as to the purpose of the tails and it is a great lead in for adaptation.Additionally, (as all elementary students love to do), they love to share their knowledge of the animals and share what they think. After a group read, this book has become popular with students who sometimes shy away from science but just become fasicnated with the facts and cool animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Won over
I had thought about buying this, but always decided not to. My son (5 years old) checked this out of the library on his own. He loves it. The cut-paper artwork is beautiful. Despite the fact-based discussion, it can be a very fun book to read. On the section about whales being able to hear sounds hundreds of miles away, my son always breaks into a whale song of his own. He also stunned his daycare teachers when they went on-line to check out his assertion that crickets had ears in their knees. So there you have it: fun, educational, beautiful! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Who can resist the allure of the hidden wilderness water hole? Certainlynot one rhino. Not two tigers. Nor three toucans. Pretty soon the delicious poolis drawing moose, catfish, pandas, tortoises... and more than 100 other crittersfrom Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and beyond. But is it our imaginationor is that rhino-sized water hole dwindling to a mere shadow of its former self,a puddle not fit for eight ladybugs, let alone 10 kangaroos? As the seasonschange across the world, and the animals get thirstier, the water supplydiminishes. Eventually, even the flowery-shirted frog that has stoicallylingered through the drought packs his suitcase and takes off. The only hope nowis a drop of rain on the parched earth...

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifilly Illustrated Children's Counting Book
I just added this to our collection of Graeme Base Books. We now have three.Anamalia helps teach the ABC's in a fun way -- The Water Hole teaches counting -- and The Eleventh Hour is a thinking book (try to solve the mystery!)All of his books are wonderfully illustrated. All of them have an underlying puzzle/theme to keep the children's interest. My 3 1/2 year old grandson is crazy about the Water Hole.Actually, all three of them are on the top of his list.He can look at the pages for a long time. That is something amazing since he is hyperactive and sitting doesn't happen for long. He's learning and can find many different things on each page.Since my children were young, these books have been cherished.

5-0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS!!
MY SON LOVES THIS BOOK. HE RECEIVED IT AS A GIFT WHEN HE WAS AN INFANT.NOW HE'S THREE YEARS OLD WE READ IT TOGETHER AND LOVE TO PICK OUT ALL THE OTHER ANIMALS HIDING IN THE PICTURES.IT'S ONE OF OUR FAVORITES.

Timely delivery. The book was great. My great grandson loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Child's Favorite
My 21 month old son loves the story of the Billy Goats Gruff, at first we used to make up the story from what we remembered about it, but now with this book he can follow along and point at the troll hiding under the bridge. It gets may requests. The pictures are great and the story flows quickly enough to keep his interest.I like the ending.Snip Snap Snout, this reviews wrote out.

Here's the one, parents and grandparents.Stephen Carpenter's son Tad had loved this story so much that Carpenter decided to write his own version--and am I glad he did! This is one of my four-year-old's daily requests, and my 13-year-old will still scoop it up for a chuckle from time to time. What makes this particular edition so great?

5-0 out of 5 stars A Favorite
Very sweet book.I got this for my husband for Father's Day and it's a great addition to our library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, sweet, and touching
I just love these books.Anne Gutman's very, very simple tale is sweet and touching. The illustrations are by Georg Hallensleben, the same illustrator who did Gutman's Lisa and Gaspard series, and his slightly crude, yet charming use of color and quick seeming acrylic sketches are just brilliant. It's a vibrant book.Perfect for a toddler.I bought both of these for a friend's baby and I do hope the parents will enjoy them as much as the little girl will--Iknow I'd keep them if I could somehow justify having a book for babies in my library.

Editorial Review

A Ukrainian boy named Nicki wants his grandmother Baba to knit snow-white mittens for him. She warns her grandson that a white mitten will be hard to find if he loses it in the snow, but of course he promptly does just that! What happens next is the surprising part, as a mole takes refuge in the lost mitten, then a rabbit, then a hedgehog, an owl, a badger, and a fox.If you think the mitten might be a wee bit stretched out at this point, just wait: "Then a big bear sniffed at the mitten. The animals were packed in tight, but the bear didn't care. He crawled in anyway." When a tiny mouse squeezes in, her whiskers tickle the bear's nose. He sneezes, and "Aaaaa-aaaaa-ca-chew!" all the animals fly out of their crocheted cave. As the mitten sails through the air, Nicki spots it, reclaims it, and takes it home to show his smiling Baba.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Halloween
Arthur's Halloween is about Arthur who is afraid of pretty much everything. When Halloween comes, he is told he has to take his sister. When trick or treating the two get lost behind and D.W. goes in the so-called Witch House, and Arthur has to go get her. The book teaches that you shouldn't judge somebody by what other people tell you. This book is good for kids 4-8. I thought it was an ok book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great series
Great series for young and old looking for a mental shut-down for bed book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the best Redwall novel: engrossing, wonderful characters, an exciting read. Highly recommended.
The second book in the Redwall series, Mossflower provides much of the backstory for the first novel, Redwall, recording Martin the Warrior's time spent in Mossflower wood and his battle to free the natives from the tyrannical rule of Tsarmina the wildcat. Martin arrives as a stranger to Mossflower, but is soon imprisoned by Tsarmina. The wildcat breaks the sword of his father, and he vows to take her life. After his subsequent escape with the help of his friend Gonff and the animals of Mossflower wood, Martin sets out on a journey of riddle solving, traveling, capture, and escape in order to restore his father's sword to its glory, kill Tsarmina and destroy her castle Kotir, and bring freedom and peace to the inhabitants of Mossflower. This text shows remarkable improvement, both in style and in setting, from Redwall and even now remains one of the best books in the series. Martin is a true hero and an enjoyable protagonist, both supporting characters and villains are well-developed and interesting to read, Martin's jorney provides our first glimpse of Salamandastron, and the book provides much backstory to Redwall and creates a prime jumping off point for the many, many sequels and prequels that follow. This is one of my favorite Redwall books to reread, and I very highly recommend it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mossflower, the very best of Brian Jacques
I think this is a thrilling adventure of Martin the Warrior and his new best friend Gonff. As they go questing with friends that they meet on the way, Log-log, and Denny, they crash their boat and wake up in a bat cave. They also get trapped in a frog cave and end up helping an eel.During the whole book, Martin is thinking about the oath he made to Tsarmina and how he would complete it.I think this book is great, but to really get the thrill, you need to listen to the audio version. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful book
My 21 month old daughter can't get enough of this book!I have actually had to hide it!I pull it out of hiding once a day and we read it 3 times in a row and then put it out of sight again! It is such a fun story to read!Your child will love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Bedtime book/Memorable
I have personally purchased 5 copies of this book.I first read it to my 14 month old granddaughter as a library book. She loved it so much, that she would get the book and just come and sit on my lap.Since then, I bought her a copy and after telling friends about it, have purchased several more.It is easy for a very young toddler to remember and it the perfect bedtime story, about a child's fear of the dark, and wanting Mama to be there constantly. The illustrations are very expressive.I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite

3-0 out of 5 stars Great books but be careful
My toddler eagerly opened and chewed on her new books only to find that our new set included 2 copies of the wild animals book, 1 farm book, and NO baby animals book.We ordered it directly from Amazon and with no listed phone numer or internet returns comment section, we feel we are stuck with this incomplete set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sturdy construction and excellent variety of textures
The other review by Lorrie M. accurately describes the different textures featured in each of the three books in the set.My son loves feeling each texture.

My 3 year old daughter loves it.It explains the process at a level she can understand.Great when used with the Butterfly Garden.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Butterfly Book for Preschool-Third Grade
I am the director of a lower school (pre-k-2nd) and we have used this book for years. It is the perfect way to introduce children to the wonderful world of metamorphosis. And if you can also actually get the Painted Lady Butterflies and "grow" them in your class, it is an invaluable experience. We have our children keep journals and then buy them each a copy of this great book (it's cheap in paperback) and they get to keep the experience forever. One correction to another review: painted ladies and all butterflies do spin chrysalids, not cocoons. They look similar, but the chrysalis usually has little specks of gold in it, which is where the name comes from. Yes I am a huge fan of this book--and a huge fan of butterflies. This author also has a lovely book about honeybees, called Honeybees.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Book to accompany Butterfly Houses, Pavillions
We got this book in addition to a home "Butterfly Pavillion" by InsectLore. It prepared my son and us for what to expect as the Painted Lady Butterflies were developing through each stage. So even duringthe lulls in the action, we could spark some anticipation. Which heightened the whole process for my 5 year old. Read more

Editorial Review

Baby bat Stellaluna's life is flitting along right on schedule--untilan owl attacks her mother one night, knocking the bewildered batlet out of her mother's loving grasp. The tiny bat is lucky enough to land in a nest of baby birds, but her whole world has just turned upside down. Literally. Stellaluna's adoptive bird mom accepts her into her nest, but only on the condition that Stellaluna will act like a bird, not a bat. Soon Stellaluna has learned to behave like a good bird should--she quits hanging by her feet and starts eating bugs. But when she finally has an opportunity to show her bird siblings what life as a bat is like, all of them are confounded. "How can we be so different and feel so much alike?" one asks. "And how can we feel so different and be so much alike?" asks another. "I agree," Stellaluna responds. "But we're friends. And that's a fact." Anyone who has ever been asked to be someone they're not will understand the conflicts--and possibilities--Stellaluna faces. This gorgeously illustrated book is sure to be an all-time favorite with readers, whether they've left the nest or not. (Click to see a sample spread. Illustration from Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Friendship is the Compromise of Differences
This is the story of a baby fruit bat, also known as the "flying fox", named Stellaluna who fell off of her mother's belly during an assault on them by an owl, who is bats' natural enemy, as they flew in the night sky. Stellaluna, whose weak wings not being ready to fly yet, finds herself in a bird's nest among chicks. And a beautiful friendship begins as Stellakuna assumes the role of a "good bird" and becomes a member of the family. Soon nature makes them realize how different Stellaluna is from the other birds. Ultimately friendship proves to be the strongest force of nature.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is how much I love Jannell Cannon books...
I bought Stellaluna even before I had a child! I absolutely fell in love not only with the story and message the book conveyed, but also the wonderful and endearing artwork. I have since had a child and purchased all of her books, the latest one being Pinduli. It is the perfect follow-up to her other books.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Tale of Finding our Way
Beautifully illustrated, this story is filled with depth and meaning. The message this book carries is one of great sensitivity:how do we fit in with others who are "different", how do we fit in when sometimes we ourselves feel "different"? Most important, Stellaluna learns to accept and be herself:even when she is different from others. This is not necessarily an easy task at any age, and this tale can be a guide for children (and adults) finding their way to self-love.The story evokes "Zen Shorts" and "The Gift of You, The Gift of Me," two other picture books that are also beacons of light for finding our way, and also both beautifully illustrated, as is "Stellaluna." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cute way to start the day!
This is the second of three books I read to my infant son each morning as part of his waking routine.(Another Boynton favorite, "Snuggle Puppy," is the first book I read.)It's such a precious way to start the day by watching his eyes light up and his grin grow wider as we read through these sweet books.I especially enjoy the cute placements of "ew" in the rhyme.

2-0 out of 5 stars "EW"'
A little disappointing after reading Barnyard Dance, but a good rhythm none the less. I don't like the "ew" in reference to broccoli stew. I guess I'm for encouraging kids to eat their vegetables. Also, the small animals tell large animals to go do big guy things because they're too large. I don't like the implication there either (no, I'm not large).

3-0 out of 5 stars Wake up
It's hard to say that a book is not good. This book for me is good but my daughter is not interested at all. ... Read more
