5-0 out of 5 stars Great series
Great series for young and old looking for a mental shut-down for bed book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mattimeo! The new champion of Redwall!
Mattimeo is kidnapped by Slagar and his gang along with many other young ones. He is forced to travel to an evil kingdom where he will become a tortured slave forever. But, Mattimeo's father and many other parents are hot on Slagar's trail ready to fight him and any other obstacles that they may encounter.
4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful coming of age story and exciting travels into the southern lands. Not the best in the series, but still recommended
The third book in the Redwall series, Mattimeo is the story of Mattimeo, Matthias the Warrior's son, who is captured by a slaver and taken on a long journey far to the south of Mossflower Woods--a journey that will turn him from a youth into a warrior. Slagar the Cruel, a masked fox, is a slaver determined to bring ruin to Redwall and to the warrior Matthias in particular. When he kidnaps Matthias's son, Mattimeo, along with a number of other youngsters from Redwall, it seems that Slagar will achieve his goal. As he forces the slaves on a long march deep into the barren, dangerous southern lands, Matthias and a band of warriors go to rescue their children. In their absence, the Abbey is attacked, leaving the peaceful abbeydwellers to defend it. The three storylines run concurrently, keeping the action moving. Riddles hidden deep within the Abbey bring aid to the rescuing warriors and reveal long-forgotten knowledge about the Abbey's founders. A coming of age story is combined with exploration, riddles, and battle, making for a meaningful, readable story.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!!
This is a great book for a very young child, I started reading it to my daughter at 1. It doesn't go into detail about a birthmother or the actual adoption process. In fact Choco looks for a mom like him and finds love in a family that is very different, but is very happy and loving. My little girl loves this book and enjoys the bright pictures of the various animals. I love that it opens the door to explain that loving families can look different from each other... and that is OK!!! I would highly reccommend this book to anyone that has a family blessed by adoption from any country.

This book is really fun and it's my son's favorite right now.All of the differend dog sounds are fun. It's a really cute book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Counting Book
My daughter loves counting the dogs and making the various barking noises. Great interactive book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hope you can bark and bark and bark.....
We adore the majority of Ms. Boynton's books, but I cringe when my son decides he'd like to hear this one.It is simply barking in different volumes and "languages" and drives ME crazy....and I have 7 dogs!

5-0 out of 5 stars Grandmum does it again
Grandmum was a children's librarian and always finds the great books for my daughter.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely, utterly, charming!
As a children's librarian I often read this book aloud to "my kids" and it was a hit every single time. It's all about cooperation and learning to accept your friends despite all their faults and foibles.I heartily recommend it for one of those chilly fall days--serve soup and crackers as a snack.

5-0 out of 5 stars The MOST fun book to read a toddler
We read lots and lots of books to our 2 year old daughter and I've never written a review before but this book really knocked our socks off.We LOVE this book in our house. It is not only fun for my daughter, who loves it when we use different voices for each of the characters, but is fun for us... So many books for this age group, particularly board books, are really boring after several reads.Even one of my all-time-favorite books from my childhood, "The Monster at the End of this Book" gets a bit wearing after the umpteenth read. But this one always stays fresh. This and "Is Your Mama A Lama" are at the top of our list, fun for a two year old and fun for the parents too.Get this book. You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read...
the Gruffalo has all the elements of a great read...repetition, rhythm, suspense, humour. My four year old was in fits - he's gone off to bed muttering 'owl ice cream'! and giggling merrily to himself.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun read for parents too!
I picked this up on a trip to the UK - our 2-year old loved it. Next trip I picked up The Gruffalo's Child which is equally good (read The Gruffalo first as The Gruffalo's Child is a sequel). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic animated rendition
It's hard to believe, but I never heard of Wind in the Willows until I was about 16 years old, when it was first read aloud to me, around a glowing campfire. It was an instant love affair.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Wind in the Willows
The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame, was originally a series of bedtime stories for Grahame's son.It is still commonly considered to be a children's book, but it is too difficult for young children to read themselves, and many older children will no longer appreciate the simple themes it covers.I imagine that its chief appeal is to adults, although children might enjoy having some parts of the book read to them.
5-0 out of 5 stars a beautiful and funny English classic
Although it is very funny, and it is about talking animals that drive cars, "The Wind in the Willows" is not suitable for four to eight year olds to read on their own. That would be the Disney cartoon version, not the book, which is pretty sophisticated for such a young age group. It is great to read aloud, however, and for older kids who love nature and humor, "The Wind in the Willows" could lead to a lifetime love of books."The Wind in the Willows" reminds me of the Victorian humor book "Three Men in a Boat", because both are about the adventures of a group of wacky English bachelors messing about in boats on the river. It is funny, with real slapstick comedy, and it is also touching, because it deals with friendship and loyalty, and beautiful, because it is about nature, and love of the countryside and home. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, fun for a 2-3 year old
This book is great as young children love it. There is lots to talk about and a nice story too. The riming isn't the best and could be told as well in normal story telling.

I bought this book for my three-year old, Sean. It has rapidly become his favorite bedtime story. It has fun rhymes with a good meter and wonderful pictures. 4-0 out of 5 stars Just plain fun
We love this book. Moose is so perfect for times when we want to enjoy a fun, interactive book with our 2-year-old. We have lots of favorite parts, but the best is when my son yells out "Boo!" He can hardly wait to get to that page. :) Its just a fun book. And for a girl from the midwest its full of lots of things that feel like home to me. I like getting to share that with my son. Not that he knows that's part of why i love it, being 2. Also a book full of opportunities to talk about and encourage sharing and helping and friendship... and housecleaning. :) haha. We highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you ever give a moose a muffin
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you give a moose a muffin?Well if you read this story it will probably stop your wondering. After you give a moose a muffin he'll probably start to act a little strange. The moose is very believable ,you might not ever give a moose a muffin again. The moose is a very good character because he does things that a human might do if you give them a muffin. It's a great book and it even appeals to first graders .I will recommend this book to other students because it has alot of funny characters and the best thing is that they're all animals. Also it would open up their imagination.Laura Numoroff is a very great auther and I love her book,If You Give A Moose A Muffin. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise
When we got this book, wasn't sure it was going to be much, but loved Eric Carle. Was pleasantly surprised how much my son (18 months) loved it.He enjoys all of the different animals and counting them - and the little mouse. He especially loves the big fold out drawing at the end and pointing to everything we saw on the train.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings back old memories
I had this book as a child, and remembered drawing all the animals over and over again using the step by step provided by Ed.I had loved this book so much that I just bought it for my son who is 5.He has been complaining that he can't draw as well as his dad (thanks to Ed E.) and this will give him the edge up on old dad.I have told him about this book, and he has been asking about it over and over. Can't wait till he starts to outdraw his dad!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to drawing
My kids (ages 7 and 5) have loved this book. They have learned to follow the linear instructions and are so impressed with their ability to create. We also purchased Ed Emberly's "Make a World".Both are great for young learners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for beginner artist
I bought this one years ago for my older son when he was 3. Now it is my younger son (4 years now)'s favorite book. He can just sit by the table and draw with this book for hours. The book is a very good teaching guide. It teaches you to draw animals with simple instructions--so simple that a 4 years old can draw a owl just by following this book. I am going to buy another one for my friend since she was amazed how well my sons can draw. Amazon should stock more these kind of books which are great and cheap so customers do not even bother to search for bargins else where. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Did you buy the stuffed Personal Penguin?
I'm not sure if many know this, but there is actually a stuffed penguin specially made to go with this book. Our local bookstore had it- what a cute gift set for a child!I must admit I've not been a huge Sandra Boynton fan in the past, but this was so cute (love the penguin) that I bought some as Christmas gifts and a set for myself too!I also downloaded Davy Jones from the Workman site, and I'm sure my nieces will love it too!Cheers!

5-0 out of 5 stars I want a personal penguin, too!
This book has a gentler charm than many of Boynton's titles, but it contains all of the warm humor and originality we've come to expect from her work. It's the story of an earnest little penguin longing to be best buddies with a skeptical hippo. The interaction of words and pictures makes the relationship between these two quirky animals unique, lively, and touching. I wish I had a Personal Penguin who adored me like that! Boynton also deftly translates this story's appeal to music, and the book includes a free download of "Your Personal Penguin" the song, delightfully performed by Davy Jones (of "The Monkees.") If you like a sweet tale with subtle wit, you'll love Your Personal Penguin!

2-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly dull
I love Sandra Boynton books, and have purchased each and every one.I pre-ordered this book a few months ago, and was very excited to receive it.After reading it, I was very disappointed. It lacks the spark, wit, and imagination of her previous works, and I doubt I'll even read it to my kids.It contains a nice sentiment, but I could spend a couple of dollars on a greeting card and get the same message.I'll think twice before pre-ordering another of her books. ... We received this book as a Christmas gift and it has turned out to be a favorite. It's silly, yet at the end makes a good point. The rhymes make it fun to read over and over which is good for me.I've read this many times to a 2 and 3 year old and they both love it.They always request this book when it's story time.I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Has stood the test of time and still popular
This book has been around since I was a child....and before. It was one of my favourite books and it is lovely to see that my two girls (2 and 4) adore it too.

This was my book when I was a kid (many years ago). My child has loved this book since age 2, and still loves it at age 4, and he knows every word by heart.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great First Books
I bought this for my niece as a gift. She loves it.The illustration are really goodshe likes to look at the pictures even when someone isnt reading it to her (she cant read yet)this is perfect if you want to read some fun and interesting stories for a baby.If you are looking for something for older kids you should probably just get the regular curious george books. These are made specifically for very young children, but they are excellent.I was very pleased with my purchase. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Richard Scarry--my sons' favorite author
As busy as the pages appear, there is so much going on for a child to first look at, parents to read, and then, later, child can read to his/her younger siblings.Scarry's books were favorites in our house!

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings Back great Memories
Our own children loved Richard Scarry books back in the 70's Now we find that our 2005 grandchildren (4 of them) all get the same enjoyment. Our Granddaughter has become the same Lowley Worm fan that her motherwas 30 years ago.Timeless classics.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most important book of my childhood
I was recalling some happy moments of childhood today, in idle moments of work-related procrastination. Huckleberry Cat and Lowly Worm taught me about the world. About Hair, and Toes, and Bananas, and Dogs. About bathrooms and manners, why stealing was bad, to share with others, about forks and boats, and eating your peas. I decided to look some of these up, and I discovered that Richard Scarry passed from this world, in 1994, eleven years ago. Even though I never knew him, and he certainly had no idea I even existed, he contributed immensely to the person I am today. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Guide
I'm starting to get interested in amphibian id and was looking for a book to help as I join in on frog monitoring and other citizen science projects. So, I haven't gotten to use this book in the field yet since it's still midwinter but the book seems like just what I need. It's a typical field guide in that it has the species plates.Pictures in this section are well drawn with color variations and patterns clearly shown and also described in words. Then there are the species-specific entries where each animal is described, habitats and location maps are provided, foods are described, etc. What I especially like about this book is that in this section they also have actual photographs of the animals shown. The photos are close-up so you can see the eggs or the young of snakes for example.I especially love the section on salamanders and decided not to bother trying to get a book dedicated to salamanders just yet. This has all the info I'll need to get going on understanding and identifying these creatures.Looking forward to a trek out to the vernal pools in March and bringing this book with me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids and their parents too!
I bought this book for my 7 year old god son.I'd seen and used other Peterson Field Guides, and I can only say they keep improving what was great to begin with.Even though my god son can't read all of the words in this guide, the wonderful color photographs with the reptile or amphibian name make it easy for him to understand. He was absolutely thrilled with this book. There are nice sections on how to capture then set up a terrarium, and to care for reptiles and amphibians in captivity. I highly recommend this for any age!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything a field guide should be!
This is the best field guide I've had for herps. The layout is typical; there are color plates of the species and some written commentary and advice on field herping in the front of the book, followed by species accounts and range maps. Fairly typical layout. However, the way in which subspecies were handled is new, at least to me, and incredibly practical and useful. Those subspecies that are readily distinguishable in the field are given full seperate entries and individual range maps, which is particularly nice with certain large species groups (milk and king snakes, Pitouphis, etc.)

4-0 out of 5 stars My 5 year old son loves this series of books
We have the other books written by Karma Wilson, but this one wasn't as good as her others. It still had the beautiful and fun illustrations, but the story wasn't as captivating. It's still a good book, but I recommend her other "Bear" books. My son memorized them due to the great sing song words she used to describe all the details!

3-0 out of 5 stars Bear asks who?
This 4th book in the series in pleasing and entertaining with a dash of suspense.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Big Hit!!!
Our daughter loves this series and this new book is no exception!!! Our two year old has most of these books memorized and with the catchy lyrics and rythmes she feels like she's actually reading...which every parent hopes to accomplish!!!Every chance we get we purchase a book from this author, so dont limit yourself to just this one...all her books are catchy, fun and will leave you with smiles at bedtime!!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good but the CD keeps falling out....
I am a preschool teacher and purchased this for use in the classroom. One of the things I did not like about it was that the CD does not stay in the book and keeps falling out, so I am worried about it getting scratched. The children enjoy acting out the animals to the music so I am glad that I did get it for the planned body movement in the classroom. I am a big fan of classical music and the book that goes with the CD is well drawn and written.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR KIDS!
I use this book and CD collection in my preschool music classes. Sometimes I just do one song a week. Sometimes I save it until the end of the year and spend the whole session reading and dancing to the music pretending to be the various animals . They love it. The funny thing to me is that my grade school class (6-10 years old) saw it in my bag and asked about it and so I read them a bit and played a few selections at the end of classthey loved it and insisted that I bring it back so that I could finish it. They love the music and the movement too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
I got this book to introduce the orchestra to kindergarteners. It is wonderful; the descriptions of the instruments used in this piece are fantastic, and each animal then has another story that really aids in connecting sounds to previous experiences. The classes really enjoyed it as well; they looked forward to learning about the Carnival every time they came! ...
