Editorial Review

On a cold windy night, an itty-bitty mouse "pitter-pat, tip-toe,creep-crawls" into a sleeping bear's cozy lair, looking for relief from thebitter winter weather. Soon he is joined by a veritable menagerie of woodlandanimals, and the party begins. Popping corn, brewing tea, tweeting, andchatting, the critters enjoy themselves thoroughly while the bear slumbersthrough it all. Until, that is, an errant pepper flake from the simmering stewwakes him up with a giant sneeze. As the bear goes from ferocious snarls andrumbles to pitiful whimpers, his uninvited guests realize what the problem is. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Oh decepcion!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Blend of magic and fantasy with realism
The finale of the acclaimed trilogy, that began with Kingdom of the Golden Dragon, has had a lot to live up to. Alex, now 18, along with his grandmother and friend, Nadia, travel to Kenya on an elephant safari. Like the previous two books, things do not exactly happen simply, and the trio encounter a whole host of problems such as after a plane crash, they end up trying to help save primitive Pygmies from slavery. A mixture of magic, adventure, and a sensous surrounding gives this book an edge that many children's books do not have.
4-0 out of 5 stars a really great book, though maybe not as good as the ones before it
I really liked this book, although it was a bit slow at the start, and i didn't think it was quite as good as the two books before it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Must-Add to Your Permanent Collection
After my daughter checked this out from her school library over and over and over we bought it.It is beautifully written and illustrated, the strawberry short cake recipe is great and everyone can help with it.It is a great primer for teaching kids to bake also -- for example it teaches what it means to 'cut in the shortening'.One of the best books out there. My three kids all love it, and will for years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious!
My 3-year-old daughter picked this out at the library today and I am hooked! The story revolves around Big Brown Rooster, the great-grandson of Little Red Hen.He has become bored with chicken feed and wants some real food.Rooster locates his great-grandmother's cookbook and a few assistants and goes to work. The story quickly becomes silly as the kitchen helpers misunderstand the instructions at every point of the cooking process.Rooster sets them straight, though, and the result is a yummy strawberry shortcake (recipe included).Every spread in the cooking section of the story is accompanied by a sidebar explaining the relevant step of the process. These sidebars cover ingredients, measuring, turning on the oven, etc.The fun story and delightful illustrations will draw children in, but Cook-a-Doodle-Doo is more than just a story. This is a terrific introduction to cooking, and I will be adding it to my homeschool library.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous and engaging book
I am a elementary school teacher and I loved the book so much that I made a unit on it.The students laughed out loud as I read it.They were able to catch on to the pattern and loved comparing and contrasting this story to the folk tale of the Little Red Hen.The wording was excellent and the pictures were darling. The illustrations really captured the essence of the feeling that I am sure the author wanted hightlighted. Great!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Sequel of "Urchin of the Riding Stars"
URCHIN AND THE HEARTSTONE is the book #2 from the 3 book series THE MISTMANTLE CHRONICLES. It is as good as its predecessor URCHIN OF THE RIDING STARS. The book is packed with action and intrigue and, as usual, M. I. McAllister excells in her depiction of characters. The friendship, courage and wisdom of the main characters are the qualities that every child reading this book will relate to. This is a fairy tale with wonderful descriptions of far-away places that reminded me of all good things from my childhood: from the play in the snow, to my faithfull friends, to the sweets grandma used to make...

Editorial Review

This classic Seuss title stars a happy-looking quadruped from the shores of Lake Winna-Bango who has the most amazing antlers and the kindest disposition. Alas! Everyone, but everyone, takes advantage of his generosity, and before long he has three-quarters of the animal kingdom nesting in the convenient perches atop his head. ("They asked in a fox, who jumped in from the trees, / They asked in some mice and they asked in some fleas.") You might think someone would take pity, but nobody seems to like an oddball, and all Thidwick gets for his trouble is complaints and contempt. Unable to cross the lake when winter threatens, he looks all set to starve--and then things get even worse. He is saved from certain death just in time, swims the lake, and joins the herd again. One reason this Seuss is so good: it has a moral, but the moral isn't pressed too far and the exuberant linguistic fun isn't subservient to it. (Ages 4 to 8) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Required Reading
This book should be in every child's library (and most adults as well). This is the starter book for Orwell's Animal Farm.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIDWICK THE BIG-HEARTED MOOSE
By far, Dr. Suess' best.Too bad this book is not acknowledged and advertised as his other silly books are. By far the best for the simple moral message a child can understand for years.

5-0 out of 5 stars 39 years of loving this book!
I bought this book 39 years ago at a church sale when I was 6 years old--yes, I used my own money!I loved it then and I love it now.The illustrations are a hoot--seeing one critter after another move into poor Thidwick's horns has always made me laugh. And, I like to think of myself as a nice guy too and a moral fellow, just like poor Thidwick. So, the lesson of seeing people take advantage of one's good nature has served me as I've gone through life.In college I majored in Political Philosophy and I thought of this book then. The lesson for me was--Bad people will use your morality against you while themselves being unaccountable.Bad people will break the law all the time, but if a good person breaks the law...listen to them scream! And of course, poor Thidwick will do anything to keep from breaking the law (in this case the law of hospitality), even starve to death or be shot by trophy hunters, rather than eject his "guests."The law has been distorted and perverted in Thidwick's case. His immoral guests remind Thidwick that if he's to be a good host then Thidwick must cater to their needs. They don't / won't consider Thidwick's needs. The ungrateful guests seem offended that they might have some responsibility for Thidwick's suffering.Years later when I read a book by Ayn Rand, I thought of Thidwick during several passages. But this is most importantly a children's book that children love!My 4 year old son picks this book to have me read it to him regularly. If he didn't like it, what would it matter that his dad likes it so much! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Tale of Peter Rabbit
The Tale of Peter Rabbit is a great little adventure book for children. It is wonderful because even without being able to read, a child can understand the story by looking through Potter's wonderfully illustrated Victorian Era Art. I would recommend this book to any teacher or parent. This should definitely be a book in your personal library.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Tale of Peter Rabbit
ISBN 1569870217 - I mention the ISBN so there's no confusion. With so many copies and retellings, Peter Rabbit is a tough review.Dissing Peter Rabbit is hard for me. I love the story, as I do most of the stories I grew up knowing even before I could read.Having read it recently, I'm not sure that it's the story I loved, or the fact that the big people in my world told it to me.
3-0 out of 5 stars The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Myriah Rangel
This book is about a rabbit that has 3 brothers and sisters, and they all go out.The mother tells them not to go to Mr. McGregor's garden, but Peter the main rabbit, doesn't listen to her and goes there. He ends up running and hiding from him.He finally got home and was sick, from everything he had been through. He is one of my favorites, because it kind of reminds me of me, because I do a lot that people tell me not to. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A3 a 5 year olds review
I love Mem Fox. I had her books as a child and now my children own many of her books. My daughters love that with this book they can "read" this book. My three year old reads pages that say "but where is the green sheep" and my five year old can read most of the other pages. I thought I would ask my daughters about the book seeing as they are the ones who always want to read it. My three year old says: "it is about finding the green sheep, I love this book very much" My five year old says "other kids should have this book because, there's sheep in it, and because you need to find the green sheep."
5-0 out of 5 stars I love Mem Fox
I have had a wonderful opportunity to hear Mem Fox read some of her wonderful childrens books! My 2 year old and my 4 year old love every book of hers that we have read and they just love to try and read them back to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely helped my 2 year old go poop on the potty!
I never bother to leave feedback for items that I have purchased but this book really did help our daughter with potty training. She would rarely go poop on the potty until we started reading this book everyday.Somehow it clicked with her and now she ALWAYS goes on the potty!I love this book.Thank you!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's the Poop?
This is a great book that tells about all different kinds of animals pooping. This is written in a simple sentence format that keeps the attention of small children.Although the illustrations show little plops of poop for each animal, and person, it is done in a funny (not gross) way.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
I bought this book while building a bathroom library for my daughter to read while on the potty. We've had good success with peeing, but the poop is a different story.Thought this book might help.Although she loves to now talk about her poop, and look for it under the flaps in the book, there's not a lot to the book.It could use a few more pages, words, flaps, etc. After all, the whole poop process takes longer than it takes her to go through all 5 pages, especially since she knows where the poop is hiden and looks there immediately. At least she likes it. ... Great series for young and old looking for a mental shut-down for bed book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best Rewall novel, but still a solid read with compelling characters and exciting climax. Recomended
The fifth Redwall novel, Salamandastron is the story of a badger maid, a blue-eyed ferret, and a plague at Redwall. Mara is a young badger maid who escapes her home, Salamandastron, and her overbearing adoptive father. As Mara begins her quest throughout Mossflower country, meeting up with Guosssom shrews and members from Redwall, Salamandastron falls under attack by a disarming, ruthless blue-eyed ferret. Meanwhile, a young squirrel named Samkim leaves Redwall in pursuit of the sword of Martin the Warrior. Giving us our first clear look at Salamandastron and the Long Patrol, Salamandastron expands the world of the Redwall novels yet again. The adventures and battles manage to be both realistic and exciting, and the strong-willed characters are compelling and show a lot of growth within the course of the book. While not particularly outstanding, this is one of the better and perhaps more famous Redwall novels and I recommend it and enjoy rereading it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Book, But Just A Little Behind Some Of The Others
I've read the whole series at least once, and I think some of the other books in the series, such as, Mattimeo, Pearls Of Lutra, The Taggurang and Mossflower are a little bit better. This one is just a bit to sad for my tastes. I hate it how Urthstripe dies before Mara can say that she loved him. Still, a very good book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not You Standard Thanksgiving Faire- a review of "Arthur's Thanksgiving"
In this book, Arthur is chosen by Mr. Ratburn to be the director of the school's "Thanksgiving Day' play.As expected he is wined and dined for the primo parts by Francine, Buster and friends. The problems start however when it comes to filling the role of the chief bird.No one wants to wear that Turkey suit!
5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Thanksgiving
The book was a brilliant book. I like how Arthur was the director and Francine thought that she was going to direct. Arthur had trouble finding a turkey for the school play and how he had to try to bribe people. Everyone threatened to quit the play if he couldn't find a turkey. He even bought a real turkey. Then in the end, he decided to be the turkey himself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ms. Carrolls' Class Book Review
In this story Arthur couldn't find a turkey. The best part of the story was when he found a turkey. We learned that at Thanksgivintg we can have fun like Arthur. Arthur was very funny in this story. Our favorite part of the story was when Arthur was a turkey and then everybody else became a turkey. We think that everyone should read this book because it has lots of funny pictures in it. ... Editorial Review

Hedgie the hedgehog discovers the wisdom of the adage, "Don't go poking your nose where it doesn't belong" only after curiosity gets this prickly fellow in a pickle. When Lisa's red and white woolen stocking blows off the clothesline, Hedgie finds it and sticks his nose inside, only to discover his prickles prevent him from pulling out of it. Soon all the farm animals are coming around to chuckle at silly Hedgie's stocking hat. But in the end, nimble-witted Hedgie gets the last laugh.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ART WORK ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE BOOK
I loved this one.It is very, very well written, cute and thoughtful story and the art work is some of the best I have seen in this particular genre. The kids I read it to in school love it (and that is really what counts in children's literature, isn't it?) and it is fun for adults to read also. There are several lesson taught in the story and the characters are quite appealing.Actually this is one of the better works I have worked with over the past few years and I do highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Curious Hedgie
Lisa was hanging out her clothes to dry and one sock blew off the clothes line.Curious Hedgie found the sock and thought it was a hat,so he put it on his head. Other animals laughed at Hedgie at first, but then they had an idea. Each animal went to the clothes line and took a piece of clothing off the line . The animals used the clothes to keep warm during the winter. Lisa sees Hedgie wearing her sock and runs after him. She catches Hedgie and pulls the sock off his head. She then goes looking for the rest of her clothes. She finds all the animals wearing her clothes and says "How ridiculous they look. Don't they know that animals don't wear clothes!"
4-0 out of 5 stars Everyone Should Weat A Hat
A misbegotten woolen stocking becomes a "hat" when it gets stuck on the prickly head of a hedgehog. Hedgehog feels silly, is full of excuses with regard to what he is wearing, but just cannot free himself from this "hat". The ending is a surprise. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Make sure your child is familiar with all the classic stories first or this story will be lost on them...
My young child didn't have a clue what this book was about.Beyond that, this story is just not my style. The troll in the book talks like this, " You need a reality check, junior" or "I want my money you four-legged buttinskis" or "Just show me the money". This book is quite a bit too contemporary in heart and style for my taste.

5-0 out of 5 stars clever and funny story
This book is a riot ~ my 6yr old and I loved this book. It mixes several popular fairy tales into one and is a gem for a children's library. ... Read more
