4-0 out of 5 stars really an amphibian book more than a frog book
This is a wonderful book!I checked it out of the library because my son (2 1/2) is obsessed with frogs, and he loves it.It is on the long side, and I'm not sure I would recommend it for kids just learning their alphabet, but it does have soem good information in it.My only actual complaint about the book is that I'm not fond of some of the comments that are meant to be light-hearted, but that's my personal taste more than anything.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ribbit!!Ribbit!!Meet the frogs and amphibians!!
Learning the alphabet can be a tedious chore.Thankfully, Mr. Pallotta and Mr. Masiello have made it sooo much easier with their work, "The Frog Alphabet Book"!!5-0 out of 5 stars Shannon at Ashley River El.
I really like The Frog Alphabet Book.I think the book is for children of all ages. You might think this book is just for little kids, but it's not. It's a great study guide. The book also includes my favorite frog, the Poison Dart frog. TUSAhe book and the illustrations are really creative. Try reading it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Childhood revisited
As a kindergarten teacher, I just love to read this book to my students.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful memories!
Oh, I LOVE this book!It is from the 50's, and SO well written!Instead of dumbing children down, it uses words that are more sophisticated. The story is hilarious! It uses pen and ink type drawings, which brought back so many pleasant memories! As a child, I didn't remember the story too well, but the pictures stayed in my mind, particularly the one of Crictor in what looks like a 10-foot long bed and wearing a 10-foot long armless sweater!!5-0 out of 5 stars An old-fashioned, wonderfully charming children's book
This was one of my favorite books growing up--I must have checked it out of the school library a dozen times. It's the adorable story of an old French woman who relies on a friendly boa to see her around Paris. Not onlydoes it teach children not to judge other people -- or reptiles -- but thecharming illustrations offer fun glimpses into the city of Paris. If youloved Madeline, you'll love this book. Buy one copy for your kids and onefor yourself! ... Read more

Meet Verdi the python. His motto: "I will never be lazy, boring or green!" No worry there. Drenched in a delicious banana-yellow and sporting a puppet-style mouth with a forked felt tongue, this smooth 32-inch snake slithers off the pages of Janell Cannon's beloved bestseller Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great companion to the book
As I mentioned in my book review of "Verdi," I volunteer to read with children at the local library. Since "Verdi" is such a popular choice, I picked up this adorable stuffed animal of Verdi to take along to the library. Let me just say that the kids love him and he is a great companion to our read-a-longs.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent childrens book with beautiful illustrations.
The story of Verdi is a great way to introduce children tothe topic of"What do you want to be when you grow up?"The reading is fairlyeasy and the illustrations will keep their attention.Verdi is a typicalchild that doesn't want to be like everyone else.Through Verdi'sexperience we see that we are only as much as we allow ourselves to be. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A unique look into one of the wonders of the world.
Sy Montgomery and Nic Bishop have managed to bring this awesome display of nature and the man who studies it to life! This book would be a wonderful addition to any household, library or school, as it describes the work of adedicated scientist who has committed his life to understanding what we ashumans can gain from the lives of garter snakes. Dr. Mason obviously loveshis work and loves passing along his knowledge to others, young and old. "The Snake Scientist" is an accurate picture of an almostundescribable phenomenom.

5-0 out of 5 stars An inspirational book for kids
This book about the adventures of Bob Mason, an Oregon State University scientist who studies snakes all over the world, is a must-read for any child (grades four to seven would be great) who loves science or nature -and a good gift idea for any parent who would like to steer their kids inthat direction. Easy to read, great photography, compelling stories aboutsnakes, science, the growth of a young boy who just started out watchingnature shows on TV and turned that interest into a career as a world-classzoologist. Excellent choice!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning photography
A fabulous book, replete with color photographs of the snakes.Kids will gravitate to the pictures first, and then the text will engage them in Dr. Mason's research. His comments are child-oriented, yet will not insult theolder readers in the audience.Bob's stories of his childhood and careerpath are an added bonus to this book....and may even encourage more budding"Snake Scientists"!Well done! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Sunny Boy is AWESOME!!
Sunny Boy is an amazing book! It lets you visualize things beyond your imagination. Its about a tortoise that loves to lay in the sun. Then he goes to live with Mr.Pimplewhite. After that he goes and does all this amazing stuff! He does so many things in his life that I want to do in mine. I suggest that you get to a library or some place that has bboks and get started on reading Sunny Boy right now. Even thuogh the story isn't very long it is still a great book that I think you should read.If I like it then I know that you will love it. After I read it once I thought it was so good that I read it again and again. It gets better and better every time I read it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This is not the original story
This is a shorter, much simplified version of the original story that was published by Pantheon books in 1983.I'm not sure what the point was in making a simplified version, since the complete story of Cornelius was my son's favorite when he was 3 years old.I'd skip this version and go with the original.

3-0 out of 5 stars There are better ones
The theme is not new and the flow is less than ideal.

5-0 out of 5 stars A story about a crocodile not afraid to be unique.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful children's story about accepting differences and learning to appreciate the talents in oneself and others
Set in India, Kali And The Rat Snake is the picturebook story of a boy, Kali, who has trouble fitting in at school. He is one of the Irula, an indigenous tribal people who live in Southern India and who have traditionally made a living as snake catchers. As the son of a snake catcher, Kali feels different from the other children, a teacher's pet, and he has trouble making friends. But when a big rat snake threatens the class, only Kali knows what to do! Energetic color illustrations by Srividya Natarajan pepper this delightful children's story from Zai Whitaker about accepting differences and learning to appreciate the talents in oneself and others. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent learning tool!
I purchased 5 books of this series for my five year old daughter for Christmas, as she wanted a "field guide" like her older sisters when exploring our 45 acres of woods. After reviewing these books before giving them, we decided to use them as part of our science program for our home school. These books have bright and colorful pictures, short accurate explanations of the animal, their habitat, eating habits, and even some of the popular anecdotes that go along with the animal. It has the appropriate warning for studying certain animals and tips on studying nature in general. What we enjoy most is that many of these animals can be found in our back yard to furthur study. Each book deals with three types of animal, such as Frogs, Toads, and Turtles. They are separated into sections dealing with each type.At the end of the section is a wonderful hands-on project the child can basically do on their own within the recommended age group (9-12) or with some assistance for a younger age group like my daughter. My 5 year old begs us to read these books to her and loves the projects.I highly recommend this book and others in the series for those who want their children to learn about nature and how to respect it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly charming and entertainingly upbeat picture book
Rose-Marie Provencher's Slithery Jake is an amusing picture book story brought to life with Abby Carter's watercolor illustrations. Sid is a young boy who brings home a snake as a pet. But then the snake escapes! Where in the world could that snake be? Slithery Jake is commended as a thoroughly charming and entertainingly upbeat picture book, featuring exaggerated action and comedy, and quite fun to read aloud.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll want to take home Slithery Jake the pet snake!
As a parent, you'll want to read this book aloud to your child over and over again. The wacky rhymes roll off the tongue to a child's delight and the illustrations will keep your child giggling throughout the story. This book is so well written that I had to write a review!

5-0 out of 5 stars Slimy, Silly Fun!
My 7 year old daughter is in a "fun book" stage. First, she fell in love with Drum, Chavi, Drum! (she still has to read it every night) and now with Slithery Jake. If you want your child to laugh outloud, get her/him these two books. You won't regret it. These are by far the most fun books in her collection.Read more
