5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect bedtime reading
This book is a beautifully illustrated version of the classic song.My 2 yr old daughter loves me to sing it to her every night, and she is now singing along with me.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful book!
This is a fantastic book!My six and three year old children are already on their second copy - we wore out the first! Both of my daughters love to read it - actually sing it - over, and over, and over. They're fascinated by the pictures as well.5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimately soothing
I first saw this book being read/sung to the children in my preschooler's class. I purchased the book for my son and to my amazement,my 1 year old LOVED it as well. The illustrations are bright and captures my baby's attention, he'll sit and "read" the book for minutes! Now, whenever my kids are starting to "meltdown" all I have to do is start singing the song and they both immediately search out this book! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Two Babies Enjoy This One, and Are Inspired to Play!
Annie Kubler's ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT is a great little book. We have had this book for about a month at my house, and my 10-1/2 month old baby and a good friend who is about 22 months old both enjoy this book a lot.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Toddler's Favorite!
I bought this book for my son when he was about 12 months old.It immediately became his favorite book...he loved for me to read/sing it to him before bedtime. He's now 20 months old and still has me singing it to him almost everyday. He loves to flip the pages with me and study the drawings of the babies. The art work is absolutely wonderful. He usually only goes for books with real life pictures, but this one is an exception. When I first picked up this book I thought, "Doesn't this song only have 2 verses...it might get old real quick."But I was pleasantly surprised to see there was much more to it...we love sharing the new verses to this old favorite with other kids...they love it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for my 9 month old
My daughter loves this book. The illustrations are engaging because they are simple. When we read this one it is never just once. This is a get excited playtime book, not a bedtime book. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Gothic cathedral is one of humanity's greatest masterpieces--an architectural feast that couldn't help but attract the attention of renowned author-illustrator David Macaulay. Once an architectural student at the Rhode Island School of Design, Macaulay glories in the intricacies and beauty of structure, as evidenced in his masterful pen-and-ink drawings in critically acclaimed children's books such as Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent masterpiece!
Words are useless to describe this masterpiece created by David Macaulay.
5-0 out of 5 stars spellbinding for children and adults alike
Like all of Macaulay's architectural books, CATHEDRAL is ripe with vivid illustrations that are both enthralling and educational to behold. The drawings not only illustrate the cathedral's method of construction, but convey the presence and majesty of the space as well. One feels the dizzying height of the tower and the formidable strength of the foundation stones. I was always amazed at the ingenuity of the laborers in completing tasks that I would have otherwise felt impossible to attemp without power tools.
5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful introduction to architecture and the Middle Ages
Having just finished a great book called "Great Cathedrals", filled with 400 pages of jaw-dropping photographs, I kept wondering how in the world they could have built such marvelous edifices with rudimentary implements over 800 years ago.David Macaulay's "Cathedral" is a book ostensibly written for children but which will fascinate readers of all ages.In scarcely 80 pages, Macaulay takes us back in time to the year 1252 in the fictional French village of Chutreaux where the people decide to build the "longest, widest, highest and most beautiful cathedral in all of France" for the glory of God.Macaulay's text is minimal, but his exquisite black and white line drawings say it all: the step-by-step stages in the building's construction, the craftsmen and the tools they used, and the dedication that kept this project going for 80 years until its completion. We feel a sense of awe at the dedication of the original architects and craftsmen and builders who knew that they would be long dead before the cathedral was finally finished.Macaulay's glossary at the end of the book helps us to understand the major elements of the Gothic cathedral, and his cross-sections and diagrams provide clear illustration of just how the cathedral rose from its foundations. At the end of this volume, we share the awe and pride the townspeople felt at having shared a goal for over 80 years and making it a reality.Macaulay's "Cathedral" is a marvelous creation in more ways than one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Easiest books to use to learn to draw
Ed Emberly has made some wonderful books for kids and grown-ups of any age that have no drawing skills, but want to learn a simple way. His books are the easiest books to get you started if you have no previous drawing skills. He starts with a step by step illustrated lesson to draw one simple item. First a simple straight line here, then insert a circle then, then another line, step by step along the way and before you know it you have a completed drawing that you can be really proud of. I teach Cub Socuts and this artist makes the perfect book for teaching a class when you are a volunteer yourself that is not an art pro.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for 4 year Cars fan!
My 4 and a half year old son LOVED this sticker book. I bought it just after the movie came out and he didn't put it down for 2 hours !It would have been perfect for a long trip. Now that he's four these types of books are great--finding the correct sticker to be placed in the right spot--then he would ask us to read the caption.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit overpriced, but a great travel book.
I picked this up for my 6 year old son to occupy him while we flew.

1-0 out of 5 stars Corporate puff piece
Published by the Disney Corporation, not exactly an objective source for a biography of Walt Disney. You'll learn more about the man just wandering his parks and watching his films than you will from this extended press release, which completely ignores key individuals and events that helped shape Uncle Walt. The photos aren't very interesting either -- pass on this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars the world of disney
A very good overview of the life of the master that tells all the general reader needs to know of walt's life and work. Highly recommended, despite the occasional faux pas which does not detract from this informative work.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Look at an American Legend
This is a must read on Disney's life. Detailed, yet fast paced, it details the classic American story of Disney's rise from nothing to the innovative genius he was. Always looking forward, and always on the edge of financial disaster, Walt and his brother never gave up. Is vision for parks was unique and is still unmatched. Anyone who has enjoyed his films and parks should read this account of Walt's life. As the leadership of Disney Co. changes, I hope all who work for Disney read this book to remind themselves of Disney's vision. It should be the Bible for all who work there. Even if you've never been a Disney fan, you will be after reading this book. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not your average sequel
Something strange is happening in New York City and all over the world. Garbage is piling up, dogs are running away from cats (and rats) and people are being bitten on the subway by other people. Despite all this a band is born, hoping to break into the big time before civilization breaks down and there is no one left to appreciate them.
3-0 out of 5 stars Face the Music
Vampires really do exist. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Story Where A Teen Band Takes On Vampires
Strange things are happening in New York City. Stranger than usual, that is. In fact it is down right scary in a paranormal kind of way. Black liquid spurts out of fire hydrants; rats, more numerous than ever, are roving the streets; and people suddenly go crazy, like the woman who throws all of her belongings out her sixth floor apartment window all the while screaming about who knows what. One about-to-be-discarded object catches the attention of two teen onlookers. The crazy lady waves a mid-seventies Fender Stratocaster with gold pickups and whammy bar. Pearl and Moz, strangers until this moment, work together to catch this valuable guitar before it crashes to the pavement. A quick glance above and both glimpse human figures moving swiftly towards the crazy woman's window. Neither comments aloud on this phenomenum. Instead they excitedly talk about their passion for music and the possibility of forming a band.

5-0 out of 5 stars a book to treasure
I used this book for many lessons, integrating the visual art as well as the writing component. very lovely, easy for young children to relate to, stimulates their own artisty and a lovely book to own.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Starry, starry night"
One of the most well-known post-Impressionist artists is Vincent Van Gogh, whose paintings are filled with the brightest shades of yellow, blue and green. In a series of sixteen paintings, accompanied by the descriptive phrases Van Gogh wrote to his brother, Theo, young readers can enjoy the brilliance and energy of this man's work. Van Gogh has a particular appeal for children, a welcome introduction into the world of art, as each painting is reproduced with fine detail and the assured brushstrokes Van Gogh made on his canvases. Beautifully bound, the book begins with the author's self-portrait and the facts of his birthplace and eventual move to France, where he was inspired by nature's bounty, rich color and simplicity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great story of friendship, art, and puns, too!
This terrific book recounts the rivalry and eventual friendship of Picasso and Matisse, er, ah, excuse me...I meant, Pigasso and Mootisse. The protagonists in this story live across the street from each other and first hurl insults like,"You paint like a wild beast", (that's called "fauvism" for all you art lovers or snobs out there!) while Mootisse retorts, "You are pig-headed".Throughout, the paint and puns fly.

I'm not sure why the description says "easy to remove" clothes, because I had to cut everything except the dolls out.Maybe they meant easy to remove from the dolls, or maybe I just got a bad lot!But I had no idea I was going to have to cut everything out in order to use it!My hand is hurting! It's a cute set but also a little flimsy (while punching out the dolls a couple of them tore on the tabs).

5-0 out of 5 stars Get Jack Hamm books
If you like to draw, you can't go wrong with Jack Hamm books. They are economically priced, and each of them is a wealth of reference and how-to-draw information.I have all four of his books I know of.In addition to this one:Drawing Scenery: landscapes and seacapes; Drawing the Head & Figure; Cartooning The Head & Figure.Be advised that the style of the drawing in these books is dated, that is a bit old-fashioned, when fashion comes in to play. But the material is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Advice for the Beginning Animal Artist
This is a great book for learning how to draw animals, as advertised by the no-nonsense title.A junior high school art student would probably find this book challenging, and advanced art students can still glean nuggets from this richly illustrated book. For the price, this is a tremendous value compared to glossy, full-color texts that don't cover as many different kinds of animals. This book has been around for a while, but its effectiveness has not diminished, unlike some others of the author's titles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Slim, clear & detailed- GREAT for beginners.
Great for beginners, intermediate & up. *Maybe* not best for kids beneath 4th grade. This is an *amazing* work in detail & scope. If you thought Drawing the Head and Figure was packed with information, wait till you see this slim, detailed book(!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but some deep subject matter
While this is a beautifully illustrated book, looking to be ment for children, there are some awefully deep emotional parts in it that I skip over when reading to my 4 year old. It is a longer picture book and geared towards 2-4th graders. It's interesting and tells a lot about Picasso and his works, but could do without his subject's tormented and emotionally disturbing past.

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT for a PreK classroom!

Nicely illustrated, as expected however, not as exciting as Camille and the Sunflowers: A story about VanGogh. Character development should have been 5 stars. My kids liked it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Herge did better later
As a child, I read all of the Tintin books in Swedish, except the first one "Tintin in the Soviets". As an adult living in the U.S., I am reading most of them again to my children, but this time in English. Herge's first three Tintin books are not as good as his later books, and this was his third book. "Tintin in Congo" is the only Tintin book that I have read that is worse than this one. "Tintin in America" portrays America with an old fashioned European prejudice that is unrealistic and unflattering. His portrayal of the Indians is borderline racist, and the plot is essentially "gangster tries to kill Tintin, Tintin miraculously escapes" repeated a couple of dozen times. In a sense Tintin is a super hero with "luck" as his super power, and this becomes tiresome. The plot is silly, and the book is certainly not a history lesson.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment in America
While not all Tintin books are "great" - this one is at the bottom of the pile. The plot is non-existent and the violence was pointless.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tintin en Amerique
Tintin in America, the third volume in the Adventures of Tintin series, is the earliest Tintin story available from its American publisher, most likely due to the fact that its two predecessors (Tintin au pays de Soviets and Tintin au Congo) are widely considered to be just too politically incorrect. If you are a political correctitude sort of person, you will likely find Tintin in America to be lacking in that area as well, but it is important to remember that it is a story steeped in its time, and more importantly, fictional.

Great source for an Early Childhood Curriculum. This book gave me wonderful ideas on teaching little ones to be creative. This book helped me plan lessons for my home toddler/preschool daycare. This book is a MUST HAVE for home daycare providers and home schooling parents.

What a wonderful book!I bought the book as a gift for my nephew and enjoyed it so much I nearly didn't want to give it away!Needless to say my nephew was delighted and loves the book. It's a great way to spend quality time with the younger generation, you will get as much pleasure as they do, finding all the cleverly arranged objects.A great way to wile away a cold winter's eve.

5-0 out of 5 stars Attention
This book is a great tool to help your child closely observe details.A short attention span can quickly be expanded by both child and parent as you turn each page of this book.5-0 out of 5 stars An utterly engrossing way to spend several hours
Joan Steiner's "Look-Alikes, Jr." is a wonderful follow-up to her 1998 "Look-Alikes."This self-taught artist employs everyday items from chess pieces to lasagna noodles, from nail polish bottles to keys, from crackers to ink pens, to construct the most completely realistic little scenes. There are spaceships blasting off towards outer space; middle-class living rooms; classrooms; general stores, and more, all of which are chock-full of items Steiner employs to look like something else. The aforementioned lasagna noodles?Yes, they're here--as curtains! And they look improbably wonderful as curtains!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Magic Flute
I'm usually dismissive of most Die Zauberflotes because I find the overall quality of the singers and recording lacking. Then I came upon this recording...I have to say that it is simply the most amazing Die Zauberflote I've ever heard! The orchestrations to the singers to the conductor himself...everything is mind-blowing!I'm not a Mozart person, but if I really like a recording of his I will buy it.This is an excellent way to introduce yourself to the Flute, especially since there is such a wonderful introduction accompanying this extremely famous opera. And the Queen of the Night-Edda Moser!!!Amazing!Simply amazing! No other Queen has conveyed that much drama into her singing. This is the Flute.I would suggest Marriner's version if I hadn't seen this one, but then here is a Flute with all the greats in it!Get it now!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great way to learn about opera, suitable for young or old.
I received this as a gift from a mislead but well-meaning relative. Needless to say, I have never been a fan of opera. However, I was surprised that I was actually able to enjoy this book and accompanying CD. The book begins with a brief biography of Mozart, and then offers a prose overview of the story (extremely helpful for understanding!). The second half of the book contains the libretto, or text, of the opera. The original German forms one column on the left-hand side of each page, and the English translation is printed on the right. This way one can follow along with the story while listening to the music, even if you don't know a word of German. Throughout the entire book there are pictures from different stage performances of The Magic Flute. The musical recording is of high quality, contained on two disks that fit into pockets on the inside front and back cover of the book.5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story-telling
P. Craig Russell's drawing style seems especially apt for stories of enchanted lands and beings. His lines are light and airy, and he sets a mood nicely with color. In other words, he is ideally suited to illustrate this story.Read more
