5-0 out of 5 stars my daughters and I really enjoy this book!
We`ve had this book for over 3 years now, and my 5 year old daughter, loves to look at it over and over again, and beleive me, everytime we read it, a different story develops or we discover something we had`t seen before. Now I have started reading it with my 2 year old, and she too is facinated by it, it has helped her with her vocabulary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zoom
WOW.This is a very unique, wordless picture book that can be used for presenting the strategy of teaching students how to include details in writing by expanding ideas.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Bigger Picture
The friend who shared this book with me had received it from a family member who bequeathed it to her as she lay dying of cancer. It is a very beautiful and visual way of internalizing the concept that our lives and everything that happens to us and that we see around us is part of a bigger picture. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

A frustrated grade school artist, Vashti sits slumped over her blank piece of paper at the end of art class. "I just CAN'T draw!" she tells her teacher. Her teacher first uses wit, then subtle yet clever encouragement to inspire her student to go beyond her insecurities and become, in the words of a younger boy who "can’t" draw either, "a really great artist."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars powerful concept in a simple presentation
As a special education teacher I took a different message from the one intended by the author: when we honor what children CAN do, and give them the time/opportunity to demonstrate how far they can take that...they may surprise us, and even surprise themselves.I think it is particularly telling that the author/illustrator dedicated this book to his 7th grade /math/ teacher...clearly a teacher who could challenge/inspire/motivate his students to excell, even if that excelling was to be demonstrated in an area other than his own.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
The Dot is an incredibly heart-felt story that should be shared in every classroom!

5-0 out of 5 stars El Punto!
Peter H. Reynolds has crafted a simple but inspiring story that recognizes the creativity in everyone and shows how simple words can inspire that creativity. This is a book for all those people who have been told they can't by someone, because it proves that imagination lies within us all and that we only need hear it from someone so that we may begin to believe it ourselves. Reynolds reminds us of the powerful influence of teachers and their ability to challenge the preconceived notions we might hold about ourselves, encouraging us to dream and turn those dreams into reality. ... Editorial Review

After reading this book, I guarantee that you will never visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art (or any wonderful, old cavern of a museum) without sneaking into the bathrooms to look for Claudia and her brother Jamie. They're standing on the toilets, still, hiding until the museum closes and their adventure begins.Such is the impact of timeless novels . . . they never leave us. E. L. Konigsburg won the 1967 Newbery Medal for this tale of how Claudia and her brother run away to the museum in order to teach their parents a lesson. Little do they know that mystery awaits! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book is great so far. It is full of mystery and adventure. Twelve year old Claudia has run away with her brother Jamie to the Metropilan Muesum of Art. Claudia decided to bring along her brother Jamie with her because he has a lot of money. While they are there at the muesum, Claudia and Jamie come across a great mystery in the muesum that is all over the newspaper. If you would like to find out what this great mystery read this book! Teachers it is also a great book to read with your class. Also edutactional!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not mixed-up about how good this book is
This Newbery award winner is about Claudia and Jamie, two kids who run away from home. They leave the suburbs and head to New York where they stay in none other than the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They sleep in an old bed in the French section. They hide in the bathrooms. They even take baths in a fountain (and get paid for it, sort of)!But when a new exhibit comes in, the fun really starts. The Angel is beautiful, exquisite, and mysterious. The question: is the sculpture really done by Michelangelo? Claudia and Jamie will do anything to find out. I think I loved the book mostly because I really liked the idea of living in a museum. This book is good for all ages, but I expected it to be longer.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story
I remember this from my own childhood favorites and am now reading it with my daughter--

This book contains allot of basic information on draping. The instructions are thorough and are acompanied by visuals, for extra comprehension. It also has a section dedicated to draping knits, a real plus! My understanding of the draping method, and therefore my skill, has improved on account of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative look at Autumn
This is a WONDERFUL book! We read it to our class of 3-year-old preschoolers, and they were absolutely captivated. They were so quiet and engaged that they forgot to ask when we were leaving to go on our field trip.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK TO ACTUALLY GO OVER WITH YOUR KIDS TOGETHER
This is one of those books that is absolutely made for the parent or teacher to read with the child, talk and listen. Each photograph is an absolute work of art.Not only do you get to expose the child to some wonderful art work, but also this book is an ideal set up for a nature study. It actually gives the adult, who hopefully has done their own homework, to interact with the child and add thier (adult and child) own thoughts. The story is not much, but this is one of those works where the story, if more detailed, would just get in the way.I liked the concept of this work. This is a good one to work with the child in the fall. After reading and discussing the book, a walk in the woods, yard, park or what ever, can bring out quite a lot of insight from the child...they can relate.Recommend this one highly.

    Chasing Vermeer
5-0 out of 5 stars Chasing Vermeer Review by C. Shipman
When a priceless piece of artwork by Vermeer, a relatively unknown artist from the 1700s, called The Lady Writing is stolen on its way to Chicago, Petra Andalee and Calder Pillay take into their own hands to find it. These to eleven year olds find a old book by Charles Fort, which goes into detail goes into about coincidences between disappearing people and frogs. This book used to belong to their grumpy, old neighborMrs. Sharpe. Whose husband just happened to die an untimely death right after he made a breaking discoveryon Vermeer. All these thongs are oddly connected. The thief of The Lady Writing has a theory that not all of the work of art credited to Vermeer is his, and tells the public via the newspaper that he will destroy The Lady Writing if this mistake is not corrected. This turns out to be a hoax, the thief was working for someone who wanted to own The Lady Writing. It was his plan to let the public think that The Lady was destroyed. Petra and Calder find this out, and find out that the painting is hidden near they live, in fact it is in University by their houses. They rescueit, but not before the thief sees them and pursues them.Calder trips and hurts himself, and Petra runs off with the painting, and alerts the police.Calder manages to get away, and the thief is found dead on a train.Chasing Vermeer by an exciting art mystery that is sure to be an enjoyable read for any youth. I beleive that the other reviews were written by furious begginer artists whom had tried a few times and were uspset with their results. It takes time to learn how to draw and drawing simple shapes such s circles is not as easy as it is made out to be! I don't think this book could be made any simpler and is perfect for the begginer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not near as good as "Zoom"
If you have never seen any books by this author before then I would recommend purchasing "Zoom".It's amazing which made me slightly disappointed with this one.I was hoping it would be just as good as the first but it was harder to follow and wasn't as fun to look at.I wish I had not bought it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even Better Than Zoom
Once again Istvan Banyai takes your perception on a roller coaster ride. This amazing sequel is even better than Zoom. Thoroughly enjoyable and could also be used as part of a motivational speech on seeing things as they are and aren't. Perception isn't always reality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing
This book is an enchanting and fun way to learn how to draw dragons and other mythical creatures. It helped me a lot in my art with it's easy to follow instructions and beautiful illustrations. Jessica Peffer really knows what she is doing and this book is really well organized. A truely amazing book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Way To Learn How To Draw!
As far as drawing can go, this has to be one of the most helpful books out there. I must admit that I am a dragon-obsessed freak, but you don't have to like dragons or fantasy art in order to like this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing.
I found this book to be extremely helpful. The author of this book did an amazing job with the illustrations and breaking down the steps where they are able to be followed to the finished product. As far as drawing books go, this was one of the far more helpful and I was thrilled with gaining insight on how to draw the more complicated anatomical features of the fantasy creatures, such as wings with feathers.I suggest this book to anyone who is interested in fantasy drawing, but cannot seem to pinpoint certain features such as feathers, horns, or tails.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbprints up for this book!
Love this little book! My 3 year old son hasmade pictures with his fingerprints at his preschool. This isa great way for children to express themselves by making their fingerprints into any number of little animal or other creatures. I bought this book for us to make projects with at home. I thought it would be great for his little thank you notes to relatives. My son loves this book. If you decide to buy this book, you will not be dissapointed. I also enjoyed using this myself as an adult.

4-0 out of 5 stars A GOOD STARTING PLACE FOR KIDS TO DRAW
I purchased this book to use in two art camps. One was focused on printmaking and the other on cartooning.Once students open the book they were eager to try out the fingerprint illustrations and began looking for particular animals they wanted to illustrate. The book is colorful and appealing and provides a good starting place for kids to draw with ready success 'at their fingertips.' The only problem we encountered was the need for fine line marker for details as their fingerprints are small and their drawings were less successful if the marker they used was too thick or bled.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 5 yo daughter LOVED this book.
We gave my 5 yo daughter this book, some washable kid's ink pads and a sketchbook this weekend for her 5th birthday. She LOVES it.She drew some pretty amazing pictures last night with just a little help to work through the steps.I'm sure she'll be creating masterpieces all on her own in no time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Art for Kids
I purchased this book for my kids who were 6 and 10 at the time.I was pleasantly surprised by the scope and variety of art covered in this book.Several well-chosen (nothing gory or disturbing to children) pieces of art are presented in nice, full color reproductions. The authors then point out various interesting things about the piece and ask fun questions about it.All of this serves to help children not just "look" at art, but to enjoy it and appreciate it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!!
I bought this book for my grandchildren, a boy and a girl ages 2 1/2 and 5.Not only are they thrilled with it, their parents are enchanted. This book should be read by everyone! It's a marvelous primer and guide to the world of art, with pictures of some of the world's most famous art treasures and amazingly interesting explanations of why these particular pieces have endured. If you want your children or grandchildren to learn about what makes art relevant, this is the book for them!It should be sold in every art museum in the world.
5-0 out of 5 stars We LOVE this book!
I was slightly reluctant at first to purchase this book - I thought it might not be one of our son's favorites at bedtime (4 1/2 years old). (He's your typical boy - loves books about cars, tractors, dump trucks, etc) Boy, was I wrong! The first night we sat down to read it, we both had a blast! This book does such a nice job of explaining art to children, in terms that he understands, that he was excited about reading it the next night. We went through the book the first time just flipping pages to look at the artwork, and stopping to read the details of the ones he found interesting at first. It was fun for me as a parent to learn what he finds interesting in art.I would recommend this book 100%! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A fast-paced thriller
Fans of Balliett's prior CHASING VERMEER will be delighted to see the sleuths Petra and Calder return in this sequel, THE WRIGHT 3, which covers another mystery involving a Frank Lloyd Wright architectural masterpiece. A class attempt to save a landmark from demolition results in supernatural influences as ghosts seem to be protecting hidden treasure. Add a coded message and you have a fast-paced thriller filled with twists and turns of plot.

2-0 out of 5 stars Everything's in place for a great story, but it never happens
I thought I'd give this author's second book a chance even though I found her first one ("Chasing Vermeer") rather disappointing. I like her Hyde Park setting, I like the way she works art into her stories, I like the way the teacher in the book runs her classroom as a place of exploration rather than a lecture hall. So--I thought, thought I--maybe with all these strong elements in place, the author will improve her plotting abilities in her second book.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you likedChasing Vermeer
I call Chasing Vermeer a Da Vinci Code for kids. The Wright 3 brings us the same children again, with another mystery to solve. The 3 sleuths are in one place now, and we have the conflicts that come with pairs becoming a trio. The mystery involves the Robie House, a Frank Lloyd Wright house on the University of Chicago campus.Although the threatened dividing of this house between 3 museums is not true, everything else about the setting (as in Chasing Vermeer) is real. The hidden man in the Robie house is also true! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the WOWWEE factor............
Everyone says WOW when I show them this book!
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
I took my 1 year old to a bookstore to get her some books and music. The title "One Red Dot" caught my attention and imagine my amazement when I opened the book! I showed it to my daughter, she got so excited she tried to touch the pop up shapes. Sadly, some child loved the book so much that they tore up some of the pop ups and there weren't any more copies available at the store. As soon as I put it back on the shelf, my daughter started howling because she wanted it and she wouldnt stop screaming until we got to the car! Needless to say, I am going to order this book for her!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone loves this!
I bought this for my 5 year old son, because he is definitely a "color outside the lines" kid. When he started Kindergarten his teacher told me that he doesn't color in the lines (well, we never made him, we love his free spirit coloring). Anyway, he has never liked your traditional coloring books and I thought these might be a good way to help him color in the lines but still let him use his imagination. (I bought both the Doodles and Scribbles by the way). These are just awesome. WELL worth the price! My son loves them, my husband loves them, and I love them. The added unforeseen plus was that it has made some great bonding time when we sit and do these books with our son. The only complaint I would have (and believe me, this is very minor) is that I wish the books lay flat when open, maybe like a spiral binding instead of a regular book binding. Other than that, they are awesome. I highly recommend these!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
My kids and I love "Doodles".Since receiving my copy, I've suggested it to several friends and all of them have picked up a copy as well. The drawings are fun and my kids are always entertained and challenged...great for car trips or anywhere you and your kids are stuck sitting around waiting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, well worth its price
Your kids will never need another coloring book! This is a huge book that will keep the kids very entertained at home on a rainy day or in the car.And it's so much more than a coloring book; it's an activity book that even younger children can use.One example of what's in the book, there are four pages each with the exact same landscape. At the top of each page is a different "direction."One says "it's spring," the next "summer," the next "fall" and the last "winter is finally here." Great for fostering creativity and highly recommended. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been Better for Those in the Know
For those in the know, the book suffers for want of careful editing. It is flawed, for example, by illustrator David Diaz' arrogance in placing his own designs on Quezada's pottery. Had this book been about van Gogh, Picasso or any other well-known artist, it is unlikely he would have portrayed their art with no concern for what it looked like in reality. This puts down Juan Quezada. Diaz also carelessly depicts Quezada building a pot by the continuous-coil method of the Indians of the American Southwest rather than by the distinctive method that he innovated and for which he is known. Better editing would have caught these problems with the illustrations as well as a multitude of minor inaccuracies that occur in the text, nearly one to a page. For example, in speaking of using a bean to burnish pottery, the author comments, "Of course dried beans can be found in any kitchen in the village." The bean in question is an inedible wild bean, the chilicote-not the kind that would normally be found in anyone's kitchen. Such editorial problems do not, however, detract from this production as a children's book. They are the sort that only one in the know would see.

5-0 out of 5 stars My kid is obsessed with this book
The absorbing subject matter of this book, presented through catchy rhymes and alliteration and strong, colorful illustrations, has completely captured the imagination of my four-year-old.For three days now, he's been "Juan" almost exclusively, following ants to a vein of "the very best clay, all squishy and white," pretending to make vessels for every conceivable purpose, and peppering me with questions about Mexico, pottery-making, and Juan himself.I've had to draw the line at cutting my hair for paintbrushes and gathering the "dried cow manure" left by the neighborhood dogs."The Pot That Juan Built" appeals to pre-schoolers' burgeoning interest in rhyme and other aspects of language; making things out of simple materials; and the world around them generally.I give it my highest recommendation!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Beautiful Book!
I'm appalled at the lack of love for this book!I am a teacher of a 3rd grade classroom in California where my children are learing about how humans use the world around them to create their life and build their culture. This book is a perfect tie-in to this concept. The illustrations are beautiful and I found the rhymes to be intelligent and descriptive. Two thumbs up from me, and 48 thumbs up from my class!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Budding fashion designers will love it!
This is an excellent book that my 12 year old daughter, and ALL her friends have truly enjoyed. The book comes with stencils for outfits. It also comes with patterned paper to use for the outfits. It has a great selection of paper. The paper is similar to scrapbook paper but seems specially designed for the small outfits as the patterns on the paper go well with small outfits. Finally, it has some wire hangers - sized to fit the outfits. The girls have had hours of fun with this book.My daughter glues all the outfits into a notebook, and the friend who designed it "signs" the page.My only wish is that there was an address or phone number where you could order additional paper packs. While Klutz is generous when they give you the paper, my kids are using it a LOT!Her 8 year old sister enjoys it too.It is suitable for any age that is very good with scissors. The outfits are quite small.I plan to purchase some of these to use as birthday gifts to have on hand. This is one of the best activity books we've purchased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids and adults!
I bought this book as a activity to share with my neice who is 8.We both loved it.The book is full of inspiration and helpful tips like how to use your finished creations and also how to use scissors more accurately and how to glue without making a mess. The papers and accents they supply are really nice and the fashion stencils are perfectly engineered. It comes with everything you need except the scissors.I enjoyed it so much that I bought another copy for myself and for some of my crafty friends who love fashion.I really think this is a great craft book and I've recommended it to many friends. The Klutz products are always clever but this one is really special. ...
