5-0 out of 5 stars Great ending!!!!!!!!!
This book was absouluely wonderful and a great ending!!!!!!!! What else can I say??? I loved it! READ IT

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fitting End!
As I read this, I could tell this was an entirely different chapter in the Baudelaire's lives than we'd previously been exposed to. Lemony Snicket made it rather clear that the questions we wanted answered wouldn't be answered and it would do no good to answer them. Though slightly disappointing, I think we're better off for it. This book drives the message of the entire series home, and is in so many ways an allegory to what we experience every day. I thought this book was more emotional and better written than all of the other books combined, and was pleased with the couple of things we DID find out, even though there are a million other questions left unanswered. To answer these questions would be to ruin this series and the entire point of these books, and though we thirst for answers, the truth is that answers to these questions would be disappointing and more mysterious than what we're left with.
5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect ending to this series

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn Italian!
I have been searching for an easy way to teach my daughter, age 4 who has grown up only speaking english, my native Italian. I have tried various computer programs, books and tapes, and other teaching methods. All were rather boring and unhelpful, my daughter soon lost interest. This system is wonderful! The lessons are interesting and fun. They are blended wonderfully with songs and activities that keep a child's attention. I highly recommend this program. I do recommend that someone in the family practice with the child and participate with them while they listen. This is by far the best children's language packet I've seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars An engaging and informative program for learning Italian.
My son and I enjoyed the music, activities and games provided in this learning program. The use of children's voices for the cassette was very effective. A great starting point for both children and adults alike. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars from a former SAT coach
I used to work as a professional SAT Reading coach, making big bucks; the key issue for most of my students was vocabulary. Rather, VOCABULARY. (The other is slowing down and thinking as--not after--they read.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Fastest way to Build your Vocabulary!
Easy, fast, effective and fun way to improve your vocabulary. It will be a good investment!

3-0 out of 5 stars Alphabetically sorted
The words have indeed been carefully selected. However, I believe there are more efficient ways to improve your vocabulary. Instead of organizing words by themes, they are listed alphabetically. This means that you have to select and rewrite them somewhere else. If you are as busy as I, select a book with themed "word-clusters". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Magic Flute
I'm usually dismissive of most Die Zauberflotes because I find the overall quality of the singers and recording lacking. Then I came upon this recording...I have to say that it is simply the most amazing Die Zauberflote I've ever heard! The orchestrations to the singers to the conductor himself...everything is mind-blowing!I'm not a Mozart person, but if I really like a recording of his I will buy it.This is an excellent way to introduce yourself to the Flute, especially since there is such a wonderful introduction accompanying this extremely famous opera. And the Queen of the Night-Edda Moser!!!Amazing!Simply amazing! No other Queen has conveyed that much drama into her singing. This is the Flute.I would suggest Marriner's version if I hadn't seen this one, but then here is a Flute with all the greats in it!Get it now!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great way to learn about opera, suitable for young or old.
I received this as a gift from a mislead but well-meaning relative. Needless to say, I have never been a fan of opera. However, I was surprised that I was actually able to enjoy this book and accompanying CD. The book begins with a brief biography of Mozart, and then offers a prose overview of the story (extremely helpful for understanding!). The second half of the book contains the libretto, or text, of the opera. The original German forms one column on the left-hand side of each page, and the English translation is printed on the right. This way one can follow along with the story while listening to the music, even if you don't know a word of German. Throughout the entire book there are pictures from different stage performances of The Magic Flute. The musical recording is of high quality, contained on two disks that fit into pockets on the inside front and back cover of the book.5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story-telling
P. Craig Russell's drawing style seems especially apt for stories of enchanted lands and beings. His lines are light and airy, and he sets a mood nicely with color. In other words, he is ideally suited to illustrate this story.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Junie B on CD
My kindergartener adores Junie B and she LOVES these CDs. We've been reading Junie B books for more than a year and the CDs are a treat so she can continue "reading" when the lights go out at bedtime. I'm not crazy about Junie B (she gets in a lot of trouble, is rude and uses poor grammar) but I do enjoy the CDs ... they're funny and performed well AND, they occasionally provide teaching moments (when I can turn to my daughter and say: "I'm not sure I'd want to be friends with a girl like Junie B.")

3-0 out of 5 stars Junie B CD
I purchased the books on CD for my daughter because my son had them on cassette tape. However, to my dismay, the stories are split between 5 CDs and some stories are continued from one CD to the next. The stories themselves are wonderful, however, my advice is to purchase them on cassette tape so you don't have to switch CDs mid-story.

5-0 out of 5 stars entertainment for a long car ride!
How fabulous is this? As a mother facing a very long car trip last summer I was looking for something fun for the kids to listen too. Knowing my Junie B. fan gets "queasy" when she tries to read in the car this was the perfect solution! It was hysterical to listen too and a nice break from the kids music Mom had to endure. I found myself playing it even after the kids fell alseep!! We are going on the same car trip again this summer and Wowie wow wow! There is a CD version! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected as Advertised
I ordered this book after reading the rave reviews and the who's who of public school using this format.Nowhere is it advertised or even mentioned that this is a Christian book, espousing Christian dogma and assumptions.I'm surprised this is acceptable for use by Government funded public schools.Furthermore, there is a lot of non-scientific rhetoric in the book that eschews logical debate and exposition.I'm very disappointed and consider this to be false advertising.

Not blessed with the adorable good looks of a koala, the mythic mystery of a dinosaur, or even the useful familiarity of a dog, the manatee is an infrequent hero in the world of children's literature. We actually received this book when Cheerios gave it away on the front of their box.It has turned into one of our favorite books.I am not surprised that John Lithgow could be funny, but I love that he writes for children too.So get off of your fann-atee and buy this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Humorous and engaging
I found the book to be humorous and engaging. The rhymes were remenisant of Dr. Seuss' style. At the same time, Lithgow has a paticular wit that stands out, and is enjoyable for the adult reader as well. As a librarian, I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book That Touches Your Heart!
After hearing that Naomi went to Eastern Kentucky University- where I graduated from with a degree in nursing, I wanted to buy her book.I was touched at all the obstacles that she had to overcome.Like being a non-traditional student.I was a Resident Assistant at a dorm for non-traditional students. I admire her courageto stand up to the plate and go for her dream. This courage and drive has been transmitted to Ashley and Wynonna too. They are all very powerful and inspirational women of faith!

Always great listening to a Braun mystery narrated by the talented George Guidall.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Cozy Mystery Series!
In the 3rd book in The Cat Who...series, James Qwilleran (aka "Qwill"), is working on assignment in the features department as a newsman for the Daily Fluxion.Returning to writing for a paper after an absence of several years, he has gotten his life back together and sobered up.In the previous book, he had been assigned to writing a weekly magazine style insert titled "Gracious Abodes" that focused on the world of interior design.Having survived that assignment, Qwill is back writing features, and is excited about the prospect of winning a prize in the Fluxion's annual writing contest. He hears about a nearby town called Junktown from a cabbie, and decides to write a piece about what he assumes is a crime-ridden area.Instead, he finds that Junktown is a hotbed of antique dealers, and he quickly finds a room to rent in the town while writing a story about antiques. He learns that the tenant who occupied his room previously had died in a suspicious manner, and Qwill begins to investigate the curious characters in Junktown.Qwill meets Iris Cobb in this installment, starting a lengthy friendship that will last long into future books set in Moose County.
4-0 out of 5 stars Those Magisterial Cats
In this, the third offering in this series we find that our hero Jim Qwilleran has a new assignment with the Daily Fluxion. In the second book we saw him change assignments but for some reason there is no explanation for this change. Whatever the reason, Qwilleran is now a feature writer and has decided to do all that he can to win a writing contest sponsored by the Fluxion because he could really use the prize money to move out of the third-rate hotel he and his cats are occupying. A taxi driver mentions an area called Junktown to the writer who assumes that it is a high traffic narcotics area. That is just the kind of story that an old crime reporter can sink his teeth in to but alas, Qwilleran finds out that Junktown is really an antiquing area filled with junk stores.

5-0 out of 5 stars There are maybe... no, wait, I'm wrong.
There is nothing better than this, my all time favorite book. With great characters, and a wonderful plot, there is very little more a good reader could want. It has emotion, action, and still maintains great writing. You have a main character who is easy to fall in love with, for all her faults, and her other half, the other main character, who you also come to love with all your heart. The story keeps moving, and doesn't get boring for a second, because even in the less interesting parts, it's not boring, just less interesting than the brilliant other parts. The story itself is great and amazing, and every other synonym.
4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting storyline
Fantasy not being my favorite, I found this one very good.I listened to it on audio CD, and it is read by a whole cast, not just one person doing different voices.A young girl is thrust into a harrowing adventure that she never expected. She lives in a world where each human has a demon, and civilization seems to be run by the "church".This story is very tense and exciting, going from one unexpected incident to the next with a very flowing narrative.

5-0 out of 5 stars This's been my favorite book for 8 years
If you're an easily offended religious fanatic who's always looking for the vaguest insult or contradiction to your beliefs... I guess you shouldn't read this. (Actually, you could probably read this one and just skip the sequels.)

When Cole is put into a detention center, Garvey, a man working at the detention center, tells Cole about a Tlingit Indian justice ritual called Circle Justice. Cole will do anything to get of prison. He agrees to his terms and is sentenced to a year of banishment on an island off the coast of Alaska. There he encounters a Spirit Bear. Editorial Review

What would you do if you found yourself trapped in a runaway caravan hurtling down a precipitous mountain slope? Fourteen-year-old Violet, the oldest orphan of the three Baudelaires, decides to try to slow the velocity of the caravan with a drag-chute invention involving a viscous combination of blackstrap molasses, maple syrup, maraschino liqueur, peanut butter, etc. If plummeting to their death weren't scary enough, Violet and her brother Klaus have been separated from Sunny, their baby sister who is in a car headed in the opposite direction up the mountain with the "facinorous" Count Olaf, his "villainous and stylish" girlfriend Esmé Squalor, and their creepy sidekicks. Do Violet and Klaus find Sunny on the mountain? How will they survive the treacherous, snow-covered peaks with not much more than a ukulele and a bread knife, especially in the face of the "organized, ill-tempered" snow gnats? Will they finally unearth the mystery of the V.F.D.?Will they find out if one of their parents is alive after all? The suspense! As ever, the Baudelaires' unfolding tale of woe is sprinkled with Lemony Snicket's ridiculous, hilarious observations such as "Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant with odd waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like." The tenth book in The Series of Unfortunate Events takes readers through the Mortmain Mountains to the churning waters of the Stricken Stream with all the coexistent horror and silliness a Snicket fan could hope for along the way. 5-0 out of 5 stars up the down mountain
The Slippery Slope is the tenth volume in A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Having disguised themselves as Carnival Freaks and pretending to join Count Olaf's gang in order to get to the VFD headquarters, the Baudelaire Orphans have been discovered by Count Olaf and while Sunny was kidnapped, Klaus and Violet or locked in a trailer and are rolling backwards down a mountain road with no control over the trailer. This is where we begin The Slippery Slope. The elder orphans struggle to find a way to save themselves and then make their way back up the mountain to the secret headquarters, and Sunny struggles to find an opportunity to escape to find her siblings or to learn more about the scheme of Count Olaf.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm impressed
Best of the series so far. Alternating the action between the two older siblings in one chapter and Sunny in the next really worked for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm in the middle.
I'm in the middle of this book, and I can't put it down. It is so good. It makes me laugh out loud and gasp too when I learn about new things. I love all of these books. ... Read more
