4-0 out of 5 stars More dreadful fun
Once again the Baudelaire Orphans find themselves off to another place to live with another sinister guardian.Mr. Poe drops the orphans off at a boarding school where all of the buildings resemble gravestones. The rules at the school are horrible and the evil Vice Principal forces the students to live in an even more horrible shack with crabs that live on the floor and bite the orphans' toes. However the orphans finally make some friends at the school and for a time it seems as though this school will be better than the other places they have lived. However, Count Olaf, in disguise, gets hired as the school's new gym teacher.Once again, Olaf finds a way to sneak past the people in charge and trap the Baudelaire's in another trap.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Austere Academy
Have you ever read the austere academy? Well if you haven't, you should read it-you it's the fifth book of the series of unfortunate events. So you may want to read the first four first. That way you'll understand what is happening. It's mostly about- it is about three, wealthy, intelligent, children whose parent passed away in a fire while the children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny were atthe beach. When the children find a new home, they discover that their foster parent is trying to steel their fortune. In every book, at least the first five I've read, that the foster parent discise himself in order to steel their fortune. Also, in every book, they have new home but tradgety happens but not the fifth one.....

1-0 out of 5 stars I do not reconmend this book
The title of the book that I am reviewing is Seek by Paul Fleischman. This book is realistic fiction. This book is about this boy who is trying to write an autobiograpghy by remembering what happened in the past. When this boy tries to find his father, he doesn't find him through people but through air waves.I did not care for the book. I got kind of lost with all the characters and how after every sentence it changed form past to present. I think this book would be ok for 8th graders but you have to be focused.

4-0 out of 5 stars exciting throughout the whole book
This book was very exciting and interseting to me. this book is a bout a boy named Rob, and he lives with his mother. In school he is assigned to write a autobiography about his life so far.He starts reflescting back to he early life and he remembers his mother watching spanish soap operas and always telling him what was happening. Also he remembers about how his grandfather use to always teach him about history, and his grandmother always telling him stories. He remebers him and his friends always listening to radios and watching channels to see if they could find his father or even listen to him.He wants to see his father so bad, even though he was the one who abandoned him and his mother before he was born because he didnt want a child.I thought this book was pretty good.I think that it was hard to follow the stories because there was more than one going a time. This book is a good book for anybody to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars And ye shall find
The idea of writing children and teen books that should ideally be read aloud is not particularly common.Just the same, author Paul Fleischman has excelled at it time and time again.Long ago when I was young and unappreciative of anything that didn't involve "The Phantom of the Opera" (don't ask...it was a faze) I was given Fleischman's lovely Newbery Award winning, "Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices".I didn't really take to the book, partly because I was a little old for it when it first came out.Looking back at it recently, I could acknowledge that it was a lovely idea wrapped up in a succint little book.Fast forward some thirteen odd years later to the publication of "Seek".A particularly daring young adult novel, Fleischman has written a tale that is so flexible that it can either be read on the page or heard in a form of Reader's Theater. This is perhaps the first book I've read that was meant to be read on the radio.

4-0 out of 5 stars Magic Magician
The Magicians Nephew was all about magic. Theirs these rings that Digory's (the main characater)uncle made. They transport you to other worlds. Then Digory and his friend Polly go to an evil enchanted world called charn. Were they find the witch. She follows them back to London and trys to take over London. They fight and all end up in Narnia by touching the rings.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Magician's Nephew
I loved the book The Magician's Nephew. I loved the book because it was hard to put down. In class I would never want to stop reading. The book was sort of like a mystery. You would suspect one thing and the total opposite would happen. The last 2-3 chapters are the best. If you are looking for an easy read then you will love this book. The book is hard to follow in parts and you really need to think about what is happening.

Like Harry Potter, there is a reason this series draws fans from all ages, all over the world. And like Harry Potter, it's being turned into a movie.
4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected
I thought this book was way better than most of the reviews portrayed it.I really enjoyed the concept of this book.It was definitely new and exciting.I'm not going to write a plot summary.Amazon and some of the reviewers do a way better job than I could.I didn't think it started out boring at all.It did get a little bogged down in the middle.I think it may have been from where this book was translated.I found it easy to get involved with the characters.I would really recommend this to young adults and adults who love fantasy.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE LEGACY OF WARRING BROTHERS
Fans of L'Engle's exceptional Murry family will delight in the continued adventures of the more grown up siblings.Married Meg is enjoying her pregnancy while wishing that her husband were not in distant London.Still very close to the youngest brother, Charles Wallace, she also tries to welcome her crusty
5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite of the Time Quartet
This is perhaps my favorite book in L'Engle's famous "Time Quartet." Set a decade after the events of the previous book, A Wind in the Door, Meg Murray and Calvin O'Keefe are now married and she pregnant when he is sent overseas one Thanksgiving. She takes her mother-in-law to her family's home for the holiday, but the mood of the celebration is shattered when the President calls Mr. Murray with dire news: the Central American dictator Mad Dog Branzillo has gotten his hands on a nuclear arsenal, and his fingers are stroking the button. A cryptic rune uttered by Mrs. O'Keefe sends the 15-year-old Charles Wallace on a quest through time itself on a desperate search for the link between Calvin's family and the Might-Have-Been that he has to change to save the world.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Swiftly Tilting Planet
If the world's fate were in your hands, what would you do? Don't know, well if you were fifteen-year-old Charles Wallace you would have to figure it out soon. Charles Wallace has to find out how to save the world from being attacked by a nuclear bomb after his father gets a call on Thanksgiving from the president telling him that Branzillo has threatened nuclear warfare on the world. After his father got the call, his sister's mother-in-law gives him a rune that he is to use to save the world. After Thanksgiving dinner Charles goes out to lie on a rock and is met there by a unicorn named Gaudior. Gaudior tells him that in order to save the world he has to go wither people from the past and future to save what is going on in the present times. Charles agrees on going within the people because he knows that only he can do it. He ends up going within four people in the past and present at the same location that he is at and in the end he ends up changing the fact that Branzillo was born to the Gwydryr family and instead to the Madocs. I would recommend this novel to people who enjoy reading books that are sci-fi and keep you on the edge of you seat wanting to find out what is going to happen next or how they were going to put the clues together to solve the problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty darned good
I'm an adult reader, and I have to disagree with most of the customer reviews.I thought Book 1 of the trilogy was brilliant, and found Book 2 to be a significant let-down.But this third book carries through on the concept and the story, and redeemed for me the meanderings of the second book.Even at his least effective, Crossley-Holland far surpasses most of his competition -- say, the Harry Potter books -- in imagination, writing excellence, and vision.Leaving many questions unanswered at the end may dissatisfy those who want everything wrapped up nicely, but is truer to life than tidy conclusions.I have also to disagree with the reviewer who thought there was "room for a fourth book" -- he clearly misses the whole concept. The Arthur-in-the-stone story is over. The real Arthur is home. We're done.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fitting conclusion for a series and room for a 4th.
We will always owe an English friend for introducing us to this series. As she gave us the third book in the series my wife and I immediately bought the first two from Amazon so that we could read them in order.
3-0 out of 5 stars Slightly disappointing
Kevin Holland Crossley's King of the Middle March left me wondering. I absolutely loved the first two books, but King of the Middle March is....a bit dull. I never cared for the stories inside the stone, and this book takes away for Arthur de Caldicot's life experiences...the chapters about King Arthur are longer than those of our young narrator. I wanted to know: What's going to happen to Gatty? Will Serle ever return?? Will Serle marry Tanwen? Will Arthur marry Winnie? Will Arthur marry Gatty? Will Arthur ever be happy if he doesn't marry Winnie or Gatty?? Will Arthur ever get Bonamy back? And will Arthur ever see his little friend Bertie again??....many unanswered questions..I read quickly because I was eager to see what would happend with Arthur's life in the Middle March. On the topic of Arthur's mother, I like the way it ended...but everything else...was slightly disappointing. This story felt very rushed towards the end of the book. Mr. Kevin Holland-Crossley's first two books were excellent, but the third doesn't quite live up to it predessesors as most books don't. ... Read more

I have this book to thank for discovering the "Laura series", which somehow, I'd missed in childhood.I read this book aloud to my son, then 9, and he became so interested in pioneer life, that he devoured every other Laura book, either with me reading to him, (or, when he often couldn't wait till our next time together to find out what happened next) his reading it alone.

Editorial Review

Does Jerry Renault dare to disturb the universe? You wouldn't think that his refusal to sell chocolates during his school's fundraiser would create such a stir, but it does; it's as if the whole school comes apart at the seams. To some, Jerry is a hero, but to others, he becomes a scapegoat--a target for their pent-up hatred. And Jerry? He's just trying to stand up for what he believes, but perhaps there is no way for him to escape becoming a pawn in this game of control; students are pitted against other students, fighting for honor--or are they fighting for their lives? In 1974, author Robert Cormier dared to disturb our universe when this book was first published. And now, with a new introduction by the celebrated author, Read more

Jedi Quest is yet another spin off series from the galaxy far far away.I am glad to see that Ramdoom House Audio Publishing group has decided to make this new series availablein the audio format.I generally buy all the audiobooks having to do with Star Wars. This first installment in this series is quite good.Four Jedi teams including Obi Won and Aniken are sent to a planet which is being decimatedby a toxic outbreak and its their job tobring calm and help with the evacuation.Aniken is tested here for he has to put is brash tactics aside and work together with the other jedi students.Of course there are inner conflicts and we see the beginnings of Aniken's desteny.I think Jude Watson has captured this aspect of Aniken right on.The story itself is quite good and has plenty of action scenesto keep the listener interested.Jonathan Davis who did a great job in narrating the novel version of Attack of the Clones reads this one as well.He manages quite nicely to give the slue of characters presented here a distinct voice. He is a nice addition to my audio library. The only minor complaint I have with this book is that there were no space battles; but the ground battles made up for it.I am looking forward to listening to Jedi Quest 2 now.In case anyone is interested there are now over 75 audio books in the Star Wars saga which encompass three different time lines.1, the prequel years, 2, post Return of the Jedi, 3, The New Jedi Order; I have found all the books to be top notch in value and listen to them over and over again.I never rgret bying a Star Wars audio book. Its great that Amazon carries the entire line. This book contains two audio cassettes.Along with the narration, this audio book also has music and sound effects which bring the storyto life. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Madeline is great! The reading is not.
My daughters and I have read all of the Madeline stories many times over. When I found the audio collection I thought that this would be a great way to prevent boredom on long car trips. The stories are always delightful but all of us quickly tired of listening to Carol Channing's high yet husky voice. If you don't mind her voice, then you might enjoy this collection.Unfortunately my children protested and said they found her voice too distracting. ... Lucy Rose Here's the Thing About Me
5-0 out of 5 stars Lucy Rose is lots of fun
If you liked Junie B. Jones, Amber Brown or Ramona, you will love Lucy Rose, a spunky eight year old girl who has moved to Washington D.C. from Ann Arbor, Michigan after the separation of her parents. She is an "original thinker" who wears red cowboy boots, hates being teased by Melonhead, and loses the classroom pet gerbil when she takes him home during a vacation from school. With sage advice from Madam and Pop (her grandparents) Lucy Rose tackles life's little problems in an indomitable fashion. Written in diary form, the 3rd grade voice of Lucy Rose comes through loud and clear.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun ... good read-aloud potential
Lucy Rose is not your typical 8-year-old; she's an "original thinker."We meet Lucy as she's starting a new school year, in a new city (Washington, DC).Lucy is facing the challenge of making new friends while dealing with her parents' separation.Told in Lucy Rose's voice, using the device of diary entries, the book includes lots of little events in Lucy's life, including losing the school hamster and making Valentine's Day cards for *everyone* including the dreaded Melonhead.Lucy Rose's voice is lively and distinctive; the diary format would make this a good classroom read-aloud for 2nd and 3rd graders. ... Editorial Review

For all her offended sniffs and humphs, Mary Poppins is likely the most exciting nanny England--and the world--has ever seen. Young Jane and Michael Banks have no idea what's in store for them when Mary Poppins blows in on the east wind one autumn evening. Soon, though, the children are having tea on the ceiling, flying around the world in a minute (visiting polar bears and hyacinth macaws on the way), and secretly watching as their unusual nanny pastes gold paper stars to the sky. Mary's stern and haughty exterior belies the delightful nonsense she harbors; her charges, as well as her literary fans, respect and adore her. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Book!
Mary Poppins is the absolute best book I have read in a while. Mary Poppins is the worlds favorite nanny. The main characters in the book are the children; Jane, Michael, the twins (John and Barbara) and of course Mary Poppins (the nanny). There are a few neighbors and odd people Mary Poppins know, but not mentionable. My favorite chapter was The Day Out.It was so magical and entertaining!I would recommend this book 9 and up, because some things children wouldn't get and others might think it was boring. The chapters "Full Moon" and "The Dancing Cow" were very boring, but good to read.
1-0 out of 5 stars This book was horrible.
I love to read, and have all my life.I don't know how I escaped reading "Mary Poppins" as a child, because I read nearly every other children's classic book.I decided to read this aloud to my children precisely because I hadn't read it.I was horrified as the book went on...if this Mary has a heart, I can't find it.You'd have to use a microscope to find it.
5-0 out of 5 stars I WOULD RATE IT A KATRILLION STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mary Poppins is a classic book and yet is my favorite book in the whole entire world.

Editorial Review

This brilliantly ironic satire is set in a future world where televisionand computers are connected directly into people's brains when they are babies. The result is a chillingly recognizable consumer society where empty-headed kidsare driven by fashion and shopping and the avid pursuit of sillyentertainment--even on trips to Mars and the moon--and by constant customizedmurmurs in their brains of encouragement to buy, buy, buy. 2-0 out of 5 stars No nuances, everything is over the top.
This book can't find it's niche. Even though it is commonly classified as a "teen" bood, the language in the book is as bad as "Scarface" or "Pulp Fiction", with the "f-bomb" being as common an expression for these teens as "awesome" was for teens in the 80's or "cool" in the 70's. This could be excused if the characters were interesting, but the characters on sit-coms are more interesting than the supporting characters. The supporting characters throughout the entire book are wooden props for the author to make social commentary, and after a while it feels like one is being beat over the head by it.
3-0 out of 5 stars After reading "Feed" I feel full.
Titus lives in a future time when a technology called "the feed" attaches right into your brain and gives him the ability to send email, chat, watch TV, order merchandise, and listen to the radio all at once.Everyone gets "the feed" installed when they're babies, and it helps them to know what's cool and where to shop for their favorite things.
5-0 out of 5 stars An influential book that I will never forget.
In Feed, a satirical and tragic science fiction novel, M.T. Anderson takes readers to what is hopefully a distant future. This future is one in which people have computer chips, known as the feed, implanted into their heads that connect them to each other, entertainment, and streams of messages that tell the chip's hosts what the latest trends are.Titus is a young man in this future; he and his friends are like most people their age. They party, they watch the feed, the listen to the feed, they are dictated by the feed; their lives are safe, routine, as is expected when it is the norm to be the same as everyone else, until Titus and his friends meet an abstruse, young girl named Violet on their vacation to the moon.Violet is bent upon shaking the system upon which Titus and his friends, among countless other teenage carbon copies, are so accu
