5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. X
With The Chronicles of Narnia C.S. Lewis creates a magical winter wonderland that involves adventure and suspense. It is a story about four children that are sent to live with a professor who resides in a huge mansion. They discover a world that is always winter and never Christmas. The residents are tormented by a witch that can turn people into stone. Soon a lion named Aslan arrives and brings spring with him and the power to bring stoned people back to life. Ultimately, Aslan kills the witch and the four children become kings and queens of Narnia. It is a quick, effortless read that is entertaining. Once you start you will not want to put the book down. It is an easy recommendation for anyone. I highly recommend giving the book a chance and picking up a copy of it, especially for kids.
4-0 out of 5 stars Kid Friendly
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis was a great children's book. The adventures of Lucy, Edmond, Susan and Peter started when they had to move to their grandfather's house due to a war going in London. As they were playing a game of hide and seek they stumbled upon the magical world of Narnia. There they joined forces with the great leader Aslan and together overthrew the evil white witch. I have read this book as a younger kid and just now and there was a big difference in the way I read it. As a kid it was a lot more magical and I couldn't put it down I just had to read it. Now it might be the fact that this is the second time I have read this but it wasn't as good this time around. I had more wonder in my eyes I guess as a kid. I would recommend this book to everyone but I do truly believe kids will enjoy this book more than adults.

5-0 out of 5 stars A novel perfect for all ages.
The popular children's book The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, teaches biblical messages through a dramatic and intriguing plot. It all begins in WWII when a mother sends her four children off to the country to live with a professor for safety. The children were very curious and often spent hours playing hide and go seek, which lead to them discovering many new rooms and parts of the mansion. One day the youngest girl, Lucy, hid in a coat wardrobe. She walked to the very back of the closet where she revealed a new land. It was snowing and right away she discovered an odd creature. Lucy eventually went back through the wardrobe and tried to explain her discoveries to her brothers and sisters but none of them believed her. Finally Lucy was given the opportunity to prove her tale and her siblings peter, Edmund and Susan followed. Once they all entered the land they were told by a creature named Tumnus that the queen would want to kill them if she ever found them. This is because they were human and threatened her power. The rest of the novel is a biblical parallel to basics tenants of Christianity. The good and evil were always at war and at one point the Lion was slain. He rose from the dead and was able to overthrow evil. This is directly related to what the bible teaches. I believe this a great story. At a young age it has a fascinating plot with magical creatures and a powerful ending. At a more mature age is has vast symbolism that still allows for an easy read, without lacking in complexity. I think the characters in the new land are remotely bizarre but I enjoyed that if left me wondering about their personality because it lacks the usual stereotypes that are often placed on everyday characters. I couldn't tell whether the character was sympathetic or an antagonistic until I kept reading. Overall I highly suggest reading this book. When the final page is read it will leave you thinking. It's a quick read with deep meaning. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful book. A must read.
Prince Caspian is a wonderful book. Full of excitement and you wil not want to put this book down for a long time.
3-0 out of 5 stars My English homework
In the book Prince Caspian it starts out with the four Pevensies (The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe) are magically pulled back to Narnia to help the Prince. This book I can not honestly was the best that I have read out of the series mainly because it does not offer as much backround details as the others, but also because it is a pretty slow moving story which causes you to get bored.Even so though I would have to say that it was still a very good book. One main thing that I would recommend is to read this whole series in their ORIGINAL order because I believe that C.S. Lewis designed them like that to add the suspense and wonder to your reading. Although this book I would have to say is not the best out of the series I would defiantly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easily The Best
Against the usual tradition of favoring "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe", "Prince Caspian" is my favorite of the Narnia series. The story opens with Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Susan, the old kings and queens of Narnia, now only children off to school. But before they can catch the bus, Narnia decides that it has need of them and brings them back to the land.

4-0 out of 5 stars New Characters; Old Themes
This book is amply-summarized in other reviews on this page.As an adult who is reading all seven Narnia books aloud to my children, I'll just take this opportunity to cast my "4-star" vote.Gone are our favorites: Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy.Thrust to the fore is the uncomfortably familiar but redeemed Eustice. And now introduced to us are new names: Jill, Puddleglum, and Rilian.Puddleglum, the pessimistic but vitally resourceful he-frog, is a crowd pleaser. The usual Narnia themes of good vs. evil, human moral frailty, and the invisible but ultimate control of Aslan (the Son of God), are all here.Whereas "The Horse and His Boy" gave us the stifling desert and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" took us across a vast unexplored ocean, "The Silver Chair" takes us underground to a vast world of inner space. There are other interesting twists on reality, like the world of extreme (and man-eating) giants.Lewis' rye commentary on bull**** educational systems (e.g., "Experiment House") is delightful. Finally, Lewis' choice to reveal another dimension of Aslan in this book is to give us a glimpse of his home - the mountain paradise. As with the other Narnia books, save Books No. 1 or 2, this book really would not make a lot of sense unless you've read the others in the series. If, on the other hand, you've read the five books up to this point - then you will surely read this anyway!

5-0 out of 5 stars Meet one of the most memorable characters in the series...
...and that's Puddleglum the Marshwiggle, of course! Puddleglum is one of my all-time favorite characters in children's literature, and because of this, I view "The Silver Chair" as one of the best entries in the Narnia series. C.S. Lewis really seems to have found his stride with this story--and it's a shame that he only wrote one more Narnia book ("The Last Battle," which, in my humble opinion, is the weakest in the series). Aside from the deliciously pessimistic Puddleglum, there are many marvelous details to relish in "The Silver Chair," including the parliament of owls, the citadel of giants, and good old Trumpkin the dwarf, who, alas, has grown quite deaf in this book. C.S. Lewis takes us below the surface of the earth in this tale, but really this is high adventure at it's best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marshwiggles, a lost prince, and 2 Children called from another world.
Jill Pole is crying at school one day because of the bullies. Before she is finished crying, however, a boy bumps into her. His name is Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he is the cousin of Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie. Just a year ago, he went on a sea adventure with Edmund and lucy, and came back a changed boy. This adventure is called 'The voyage of "The Dawn Treader"'. He and Jill decide to ask Aslan, the Great Lion, to bring them into Narnia. Just as they are asking, the bullies start to chase them, and they scramble up to a door which is usually locked, and leads out onto the moor. They try the handle, and the door opens, revealing, not the moor, but a sunny forest, with brightly colored birds singing very difficult, advanced music. They soon realize that they are on a very high mountain, higher than any mountain in our world. Then Eustace falls over the cliff, and a lion runs to the edge and starts blowing... This story shows that it is better to trust God's plan than you're own. When the children, with a serious, not overly-cheerful-Marshwiggle, meet a green lady, with a silent knight, tell them of The Gentle Giants of Harfang Castle, the children stop thinking of what Aslan told them to do, and because it is winter, all they can think of is getting to the giant's castle. Then they find that the giant's are going to... but you'll have to read it yourself. I think that the Marshwiggle is my favorite character. I reccomend this story to everyone of every age-

5-0 out of 5 stars the battle review
The story is about a king that has to deal with lots of things like rashida tarrken. He has some problems that he has to solve in order to defeat some people. He must join up with the last real narnins to over come the problem he is about to face. I liked it when it hits he amazing stunt he pulled by the king. I disliked the ape. I like the plot because it is full of jumps loop hooles. It was a good book to read because the king and friends have to over come there diffrences and work together to save Narnia.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not much to recommend it.
I think that the real point is being missed by asking whether or not C.S. Lewis was racist. The question is, what is the effect of the books on their target audience; namely children between eight and twelve years of age. What will the impact of reading about the Calormene darkies on a child.
5-0 out of 5 stars Really, The Beginning
We did it!My kids and I read the Narnia series, finishing, of course, with The Last Battle. The reviews on this page accurately rehearse the obvious: that The Last Battle presents an apocalyptic picture of Narnia with strong Biblical "end-times" imagery.A false prophet, confusion of the masses, a climatic battle, and finally salvation at the hands of the Creator.

it was an okay book.I think that D.W. and Arthur make the perfect brother and sister because they always disagree. It was a funny book because Arthur does a good trick on Binky.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur and D.W. are so much fun!
ARTHUR'S APRIL FOOL is one of the earlier books when the drawings of Arthur still gave him the longer head. And because it's an earlier book, all the characters you know from the wonderful TV series are here, but they look just a bit different than we're used to. It's a great story with a lot of depth and a lot of fun. The illustrations are so funny, with a lot of interesting details for kids to find. My favorite is always D.W., and she doesn't let me down here, either. The Arthur series is simply amazing and wonderful. It brings me great joy. I would get every one of the books in this affordable series of paperbacks. ... Read more

Editorial Review

On March 17, young Jamie wakes up and realizes it's St. Patrick's Day.The green sashes are laid out on the table for his father and two older brothers--all ready for them to sport in the big parade. This is all very exciting, but Jamie's family had told him he was too small to walk in the parade--too young to make it all the way up Acorn Hill. He decides to take matters (and his trusty flute) into his own small hands, and embarks on an early morning walk--all the way up Acorn Hill--with his dog Nell. What did Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was a great story of a shy little boy named Robert. I'm shy too sometimes so I can relate to him. And who hasn't been bullied at school? I'm glad he finally stood up for himself. It was a sad ending but it felt right. People live, people die. That's just the way things are.

My gradmother gave this book to me for my last birthday. When I read the back of the book, I pretty well made up my mind that this isn't the kind of book for me.When I was getting to the end of my book pile this summer, I figured that it was about time to read it.And now, I'm very glad that I did! This book inspired me to follow my dreams, and not many novels have done this.It says in the last chapter, it says that luck is something that you have to make for yourself, which I found a very interesting perspective.I would recommend this book to anyone who is feeling left-out or under any strong emotion. This book truly lifts your spirits, and makes you feel like you can fly.

Cole has many problems. His dad beats him, his mom says nothing about it, so his anger towards his parents is taken out on the world, and specifically at a schoolmate, Peter. Peter tells on Cole, so Cole smashes his head into the sidewalk, causing severe damage both emotional and physical. When Cole is put into a detention center, Garvey, a man working at the detention center, tells Cole about a Tlingit Indian justice ritual called Circle Justice. Cole will do anything to get of prison. He agrees to his terms and is sentenced to a year of banishment on an island off the coast of Alaska. There he encounters a Spirit Bear. After almost being killed by it, Cole is left thinking about his life, his choices, and the healing ramifications of Circle Justice.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Suspense Book With Multiple Great Twists
This book was extremely creative. I greatly suggest you read the first book in the series before reading this one, just to help with lots of connections Isabel make between this book and City of the Beasts. Isabel added twist after twist to the story making you want to read more and more. Every night you could see the light on in my room since I could not keep my eyes of the book. Suspense fills the book so high that you fell as if you have to read more and more just to find out what will come with a flip of the page.
5-0 out of 5 stars suprised how much I liked it

This Book was great. It was a book a I never expected to read but I did and it was amazing. I always wanted to keep reading it when ever I could and it was so nerve racking to wait for the next part. I thought that it was great in every way you could possibly think of. The part that was my favorite was when the yetis and Tensing attack the Blue Warriors and defeat them. I highly reccomend this to anyone one 6th grade and up. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Family Devotional
I've had this book for 3 years and both my children (now aged 5 and 11) still love to hear the stories. The pictures are colorful and enjoyable and the bible stories are well placed in the story themes. The story set up begins with a situation the bear family encounters and then a bible story that relates to that situation is recollected by one of the bears. The last story Heaven Can't Wait will have the reader teary eyed, and is told in such a way that although the child will experience the sadness of death, they will see the victory of eternal life with God.I wish there were more books written of Big Ideas In the Bible. This book makes a great family devotional!
