Couldn't put it down
This is a great book.I just wish there was more.It's a great faith builder and its not for just teens, it's for anyone.I'm looking forward to sharing this book with my kids.

Great reading
This is a very mis named book. It is not just for teens, but for anyone who needs a ray of sunshine in their life. In each of these true stories, we see God intervening in the lives of young people, often through angelic appearances, in such a way that lives are saved, or more importantly, changed. A runaway boy finds his way home, a hapless girl is able to escape an attacker in a way that could only be a miracle. A sister's prayer for her brother gives them extra time together. The old man looks like a cross between a cartoon granddad and a swami; he sits on top of a cactus, and tells his young listener that the best way to get over any sadness is to imagine all the ways you could be worse off. "Suppose, just suppose, you were poor Herbie Hart, who has taken his Throm-dim-bu-lator apart!"This has a more hurried, formulaic feel than the best Seuss, and it seems to showcase a less acute grasp of child psychology than usual. (Does it really make a child feel better to think of poor Harry Haddow, who, "try as he will, can't make a shadow," or Gucky Gown, "who lives by himself ninety miles out of town"?) Simple genius
The moral of "Did I Ever..." is as much for the adults reading the story as for the kids who're enjoying it as part of a bedtime ritual.Dr. Seuss paints a picture of silly places and people we're lucky we're not, adjusting our point of view to show that we've got it pretty darn good.Probably not a lesson that a 2 year-old will immediately grasp and write a masters thesis on, but a good seed to plant in his mind.And while the deep meanings of life are flying over their heads, the rugrats will enjoy the brilliant Seuss-ian rhymes and illustrations of ridiculous situations (With your bedroom up here... And your bathroom up there!).Definitely a top-ten book for small human people.

Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are
This was, by far, my favorite book growing up.I loved trying to figure out how to say the strange words and eventually, I could almost recite the entire book from memory.I still can the first few pages.I don't know that I was helped psycologically, but it sure was and is a fun book!

Theodore Seuss Guisel is, of course, one of the best known children's authors today.Though he left us in 1994, his legacy lives on and his books are still produced, bought and loved as much now as anytime in the past.When we think of him, we immediately think of "The Cat in the Hat" or "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", but we can easily forget some of his wonderful, lesser-known works. "When I was quite young and quite small for my size I met an old man in the Desert of Drize..." So begins "Did I Ever Tell You..." where the narrator finds an old man sitting atop a prickly cactus in the middle of the desert.The man tells the boy narrator that whenever HE feels like his life isn't going well, he reminds himself how lucky he really IS.He could be, for example, a construction worker on the impossibly rickety Bunglebung Bridge, where workers are toiling over the water to finish the impossibly crooked structure. Yes, things could be far worse!!You could be a Poogle-Horn Player who has to honk away on your complex, tuba-like Poogle-Horn while descending a flight of stairs... on a two story unicycle, no less!!The absurdness of people less fortunate splash across each page, Seuss-like, as Mr. Bix wakes up at 6 in the morning to find that his Borfin has schlumpped over, or Mr. Potter who has to dot i's and cross t's on endless, miles-long spools of paper!Yes, things could be far worse than they are, Ducky, so count yourself lucky! Published in 1973, "Have I Ever Told You..." is a wonderfully funny book with some subtle messages.Written during a period of time when parents were still forever admonishing their children, "you're so lucky to be able to eat those Brussels sprouts!!Why, there's children starving in Africa..." the book can be seen as a lesson in morality and thankfulness OR as satire of those very parents who encourage children to think of those less fortunate than them when they crank about life's inequities. Satire or morality play, "Have I Ever Told You..." is classical Seuss at his best.The illustrations are properly absurd and colorful, splashing across the page in Seuss's perennial style.There's humans assembling bridges as well as odd creatures getting stuck in 4-way traffic jams.The illustrations are uncluttered and the text is easy to read, making it an excellent choice for beginning to intermediate readers.A wonderfully fun book, and highly recommended!! ... Alone, yet not alone
I loved this book! My friend told me to read it, and I did. It was so exciting that I couldn't put it down! This book is highly engrafted in spiritual truth, and the plot is wonderful. The way that the leininger family depends on God and trusts Him always and the way that they care for eachother and their friends is very heart warming. This is a definate must read for all ages. If you have read and liked "Standing in the Light" a Dear America diary, then you will love this.

This book is one of the best books that I have ever read...I've read and re-read and re-re-read it many times.I am amazed at how neat this book is - especially since it's a true story.This is a definite book to read!

Best for Baby
I played this CD for my baby daughter when she was about 6 weeks old.It became part of our "routine"; as soon as I put her in the crib for a nap, I pressed 'play' on the CD player, and quietly closed her door leaving it cracked.(You don't need to play it loud...just softly enough for the baby to hear and never near the baby's head.) I did this for every nap (in the beginning, there are lots of naps!) and always played this same CD.Babies and children too, THRIVE on routine.Within a few weeks, the baby recognizes the music and depends on the scheduled routine.It's amazing -- as soon as the music came on, she'd be fast asleep within minutes.I have done this with both my babies respectively and would highly recommend it for any new mother!I used this CD until they gave up their naps at age 3.The music is very soothing and is set to the backdrop of ocean waves and the beach.It's very relaxing.Another thing I did during naptime is I did not prevent regular household noises from happening ie. running the vacuum, putting clothes away in the babies room, toilet flushing, doorbell ringing, etc.These are noises that if used from the beginning, the baby will generally get used to and that will make your life easier!You don't want to tiptoe around the house because "the baby is sleeping".Just do your regular thing, schedule the baby, and play this CD! ... I LOVED it!!!!
Ignore the age range it has for this book, that is completely RIDICULOUS. There are things in this book that might scare children of that age... but definitely not anyone over ten. Also ALL AGES would LOVE this book, don't be put off by the age range "4-8" THAT IS SO INSANE!!! "4-8" belongs with Barney or My Little Pony.
An Awesome Adventure!
This has to be my #1 favorite book. I could hardly put this book down. This funny first person story is of the adventures' of sixteen-year-old Jane Peck. From venturing to the unknown wilds of the Pacific Northwest to marry her childhood idol, to puking in a bucket the whole way there. From sharing a filthy cabin with the most flea-bitten, tobaco-spitin group of men, to making salmonberry pies. From falling in love with a sailor, to surving the smallpox. You'll enjoy this book full of adventure, romance, adventure, funny moments, and again adventure!

What an "education" is not useful for
I always seem to enjoy books for teens and pre-teens that include something about the things society deems important for people to learn and this is highlighted amusingly by Jane's going to school to learn to be a lady.Readers will delight in the tomboy Jane's prowess at spitting and throwing manure, while at the same time realizing that she does, in fact, need civilizing.Unfortunately, the education she receives isn't exactly one that fits her to live on the frontier in wild Oregon, where she is determined to go to pursue a childhood crush.It is the contrast between the "learning to be a lady" and the realities of life on the frontier that provide a good deal of the humor in the book.The added advantage here is that the picture of the primitive conditions is well researched and accurate.

Children's books are foundational; they should be worth reading rather than following money-making fads. So it's particularly frustrating to see a best-selling book turned into multiple editions that include children's books, without special care made to see that the children's editions are well-written and true to Scripture. Truth at Christmas
A wonderful little collection of stories for anyone from eight to ninety-nine who wants to know the real truth of Christmas. Told out of the experience of the bravery of several of the folk of the Plateau Vivrai-Lignon in France during World War II, crafted by their most famous spokesman,Pastor Andre Trocme, these stories, mostly told at Christmas, combine poetry with unflinching truth. I especially appreciated the story of the elderly, misanthropic woman who, when she finally hears of the plight of the Holy Family, dismantles her own furnace and sends it, at considerable cost to her welfare, to Bethlehem.... Charm never hides the truth that prompted the stories--saving over 5000 refugees from Hitler. Still, the hope that is the point of the coming of Christ is portrayed in contemporary situations that certainly charmed me. I'm sending it to several friends, from eight to ninety-nine (pace Amazon.com)for Christmas presents.
