5-0 out of 5 stars Grate adventure!
I began this series in the wrong order as I read the dark is rising first. I then formed a theory which I was anxious to see fulfilled. So I began over sea under stone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful classic of children's fantasy literature
It doesn't matter that this book was written 30 years ago, it easily withstands the test of time. It's actually superior to so much of the children's literature that's being put out these days. 5-0 out of 5 stars A compelling start to the series
By one of those strange coincidences, I read this book shortly after the new "Ulysses Moore - The Door to Time", and a comparison of the two will reveal many similarities. This story was copyrighted by Susan Cooper in 1965, and tells the tale of three children who discover an old map in the house where they are vacationing. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wild River
There are three brothers and their names Jason, Ethan, Abraham. The three brothers' own a saw mill in Dawson. One day this man named Donner took the saw mill away from the three brothers and he wanted to the brothers' to sell the saw mill to him. So Jason was reading in the news paper about a race to Nome. The winner of the race will get 20,000 thousand dollars. Nome is located in Canada. Jason got a hold of a good friend her name is Jamie. So Jamie comes down the Yukon on a steam boat. She and Jason all that night got together and checked the canoe out to see if it was in good condition. They packed their boat all up with their stuff. Jason and Jamie took the canoe to the starting point and got in. The gun went boom! Jamie and Jason got in fist place going down the Yukon. They ran into a big cotton tree so they had to go around it. They were racing against Donner, Donner cut down a Burch tree and the trunk of the tree put a hole in their canoe. So they made a raft and went up stream and traded the raft for a Burch wood canoe. Jamie and Jason entered the ocean and got a kayak from the Eskimos. The two of them went down the ocean. They got out and ran towards the building. I'm not going to tell you what happens. If I tell you I'll ruin the end of the book.
3-0 out of 5 stars The Race
It's about a boy named Jason and his brothers, living in Dawson City. They have their own sawmill called Hawthorn Brothers Sawmill, where they work to make a living. One day all of the brothers were at a place eating, and a guy starts to kick this dog sitting there, so Ethan, the oldest brother, tells the man not to kick the dog. They got into a pushing match, but somebody in the crowd yelled at Ethan not to fight the guy, because he was pushing a former boxer Sydney Mauler. Then somebody said they should have a boxing match, and they had one two weeks later. Ethan ended up winning and becoming famous. He stopped working at the mill and started to drink and gamble a lot. He was winning everyday, and then one day he started to lose, and everyday he lost more and more until he was broke. Then a lawyer took their mill by having Ethan sing a paper when he was drunk, so they lost their mill. Jason's old friend Jamie Dunavant comes back to Dawson City and they fall in love. Jason told her he was going to Nome for to make money to buy the mill back. Jamie then found a contest. It was a race to Nome for two people and $20,000 the prize. It would be able to buy the mill back. So can Jamie and Jason win the race and get the mill back? You'll have to read the book to find out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for children
I've taught children for many years and my family has many teahers . We were shocked by the content of this video .It would definetely scare young children . Not only would I not recommend it I disposed of my copy .

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Purchase
I am a former elementary music teacher and a liscened Kindermusik TM teacher.I taught music at my daughters church preschool last year. The Praise in Motion collection of songs and motions/dances were fabulous. The kids begged for the songs on these video and audio collections.5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality Christian impact on your toddler!!
I've included a desription of the content of this video since Amazon doesn't include one. There are 12 Christmas songs on this tape.Christina Lee's (the author and presentor) technique is designed to involve all 4 aspects (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) of our children in these activities. After two months of watching this tape, my 16 month old my daughter still brings tears to my eyes as I watch her learn more and more of the hand motions that go with each song. She even does the hand motions when I sing the songs in the car.Christina leads an audiance of toddlers through hand motions for each song. The film flashes back and forth between Christina and the kids who are all adorable. The first four songs use props (bells, tinsle, a candy cane and a fake candle) that my daughter just loves.Christina's outfit (see video cover), makeup and seeming lack of eyecontact take a while for us adults to warm up to but the kids seem to love it.What got me to buy this video was Christina's personal letter on the video signed Sincerely His.She's a veteran music teacher that appears to know what she is doing. As good solid Christian influences for our toddlers are hard to come by - even my extended family agrees that this was a great find!!Praise God and peace be with you and your family. PS I'm placing my order for another one of Christina's tapes after I post this. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Middle School Son Loved this Book
My middle school aged son picked this book to read for a book report. He's somewhat of a reluctant reader so it can be a challenge to find a book that really draws him in.This book did it!It's the story of a 6th grade boy, named Tyler, who is visiting an uncle who writes for a popular sitcom.Tyler feels that this is his chance to break into showbiz. The author of the book has been a television writer so I'm sure it's an accurate description of life behind the scenes. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars FLOP!
There are many reasons I liked this book, but even more reasons that I absolutely hated it. I love stories and mythology, and was very excited to get to read another book on this subject. I really enjoyed the scenes where it talked about the war and different conflicts between the Greeks and Trojans. However, more then half of the book is about girl fights, illicit relationships, and unwanted pregnancies. The author obviously didn't research the war enough, because she hardly ever talks about it, although it usually is interesting when she does. Instead of this book being an epic, which was my first expectation, it turned out more like a soap opera. I read several reviews of this book before I actually read the story, and all of them claimed that the book was a sure hit for people interested in mythology. The book hardly ever has anything to do with this, and most of it's views of the Greek Gods are wrong. No character in the story seems to be paying attention to the fact that their entire city is collapsing around them and that they are all probably going to die soon. There are a few parts of the book about old ladies gossiping, which is utterly pointless and seems to have nothing to do with most of the rest of the story, and the rest is about two teenage sisters who are obviously the most important beings in the world, because they seem to believe that there is nothing more important to pay attention to in the world of Troy besides themselves and the beautiful boy Alastor, who was brave enough to spend all of five minutes fighting in the war before getting wounded and withdrawing for good. The book is generous enough to lend one paragraph of it's bazillion-page sea of disgusting boringness to Hector's death, probably the most important event of the entire war. I can not honestly recommend this book to anyone, and suggest just reading the Iliad instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of Greek Mythology
Adele Geras has beautifully combined the mortal and immortal world in this historic and mythological novel. I have read many Greek mythology novels but nothing compares to this wonderfully written book. There wasn't any part of the novel that didn't appeal to me. Adele has done a fabulous job binding life, love, war, and death. It is one of the best books written of ALL TIMES. I recommend it to anyone interested in MYTHOLOGY. You just won't be able to put the book down. I agree that although TROY was a battle (Trojan War) the book did not include much of it, until the very end. But from a reader's point of view, I have to say the novel is very well balanced. Please, read "TROY". I liked it so much that I rented the "TROY" movie - the movie and the book are quiet different. WHO knew.....that a war could happen because of a beautiful girl?

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
I thought this book was awful! Plain and simple. In the book, there is a war going on and the author obviously didn't research it enough because she hardly ever mentions any of the battles. Now, I'm a girl who loves romance and all that, but the relationships between the characters were so unbearably unbelieveable. I bought this book, and it's sequel "Ithaka" because I love ancient Greece and the whole battle of Troy. I don't even want to keep this book, but it's so bad, that I don't want to sell it and have other people waste their money on a stupid badly written novel. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great collection of family-friendly shows for everyone
This is where it all began. The first 12 episodes of Focus on the Family's Adventures in Odyssey series, which is still going strong today. Featuring the voice of Hal Smith (best known as Otis Campbell from the Andy Griffith shows) as Mr. Whittaker, the show can entertain adults and kids alike, using the theater of the mind rather than of the eye.5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
These tapes are terrific! If you have kids, they are fantastic to play in the car on a long trip. The kids love them and so do Mom and Dad.It keeps everyone from fussing and fighting and they will listen to them over and over. They never get tired of them ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My two-year-old loves this music.
I bought this because my two-year-old was coming home from Mother's day out singing songs that I didn't know.I asked the caregiver about the cow song and was told it was from this CD.As soon as my daughter heard this, she was singing right along.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Music for Actions and Singing
We use this CD at a Music and Movement class for preschoolers. They love the songs, and the words are very clear and easy to hear. The repitition, and focus on animals helps too.We also give them away to Moms with new babies...a treat for the big brother or sister.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for your toddlers and preschoolers and it's so CUTE!
My daughter who is a 18-month-old just loves this book!Whenever I read the book to her with the motions suggested by the author, my daughter would just smile and sometimes laugh out loud.I just enjoy this cute little book and I enjoy my daughter's smile and the time we share together with this book.

My children so loved the Rikki Tikki Tavi video--based on a Kipling video--that I wanted to find other Kipling stories on tape (besides the Jungle Book). I wasn't successful, but I found many different editions of Just So Stories. It was hard to choose!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
It's a nice budget edition of the famous book with sophisticated authors' illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightfully funny
Kipling did an excellent job in compliling and communicating these stories.I thoroughly enjoyed each story, with the exception of the one about how writing was invented, which seemed a bit boring to me.
