5-0 out of 5 stars Every kid should read this book
This book is a timeless classic.Every parent should read it to their small children. It is a great way to end the day with a sweet good night.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A classic
I must admit that the only reason I bought this book was because people said it is a classic and any web site about children's books named this one. I did not relate to it, because when I was growing up in India, this wasnt popular. When the book arrived and I actually looked at it, I did not understand what the hype was all about and did not really read it to my son until a couple of weeks ago. (I bought the book about a year ago when he was just 4 months :) )
5-0 out of 5 stars Child's Favorite Book
When I first bought this book I wondered what why it was always listed as a favorite. I didn't know the story but thought the color choices were a bit strong. Well my child LOVES this book. We read it almost everyday! I would highly recommend this book as well as "The Big Red Barn". ... Read more

This book has replace our tired "Good Night Moon" which needed a break.I prefer reading this one b/c the text isn't as repetitve as "Good Night Moon".

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Book but Rips Apart QUICKLY- NOT DESIGNED FOR TODDLERS!
My Son loves these books. However, the flaps rip off very easily. He really misses these books! Without a lot of effort or very aggressive "lifting", these flaps on several of Karen Katz's books ripped right off.
4-0 out of 5 stars Flap books always a favorite
The children seemed to enjoy the reading of this book. They were especially taken by finding the surprises under each flap. If there were one detail I might change would be to make the word under the flap more easily visible without having to fold the flap all the way back. It doesn't lay flat again after that.We read the book again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Warm and wonderful
This book brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it.It is warm and comforting.A wonderful message for children that their mama will always be there no matter what...

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but okay
I feel like I am supposed to love this book since it is by the same author of the beloved "Goodnight Moon", but I don't and neither does my child. The illustrations are a bit bland and the story is unremarkable. It also lacks the rhythm of "Goodnight Moon".As a result it just doesn't seem to keep my child's attention. On one hand the message of a mom's unconditional love is rather sweet, but the way she goes about it is borderline creepy.By following her unwilling child all over the world she has the potential of appearing more obsessive and domineering than pleasant and caring. In the end, however, the book is harmless and many people seem to think it's a very charming book.I would just recommend giving it a quick read in the book store before you purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Love And Devotion
I love the runaway bunny and my kids love the runaway bunny. It makes us laugh, brings us closer together, and helps reinforce the most important lesson my children can learn "A Mother's Love has no limits." We laughed at the young bunny's frustration, marveled at the mother bunny's persistence, and discussed the love and commitment that strengthens our own family. The Runaway Bunny has been a useful tool in reinforcing my dedication to my children. As young children enjoyed the pictures. It's small and simple, but the lesson is profound. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This is a very good children's novel. It is easy to read and moves along quickly to keep the attention. The story is enchanting and very sweet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting
The story of a family which can never die or get hurt known as the Tucks. A classic love story between living forever for love or living life normal. Which would you choose? The main character Winnie Foster is caught between her new love, Jessie, which belongs to the Tuck family. Now the Tuck family is a very strange family which kept there life as a secret by moving to different place every once in a while. The story goes on and at the end Winnie is either to choose Jessie and drink from the fountain of youth or go on living and move on. Jessie did not want her to drink from it but she loved him and said she would do anything. The setting takes place in a old town called Treegap, which was very small and secluded from the outside world. I would say the genre of this book is a love and fantasy. The book has 139 pages and you cannot stop until you hit that blank page at the end of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every August, my thoughts turn to Tuck Everlasting
The opening of TUCK EVERLASTING is one of the best beginnings of any book I've ever read, includingmany of the classics. Whatever this book my lack in character development, it makes up for ten-fold in theme. This book and its concepts are ageless andhaunting. The best stories in life are often told as a parable, and TUCK EVERLASTING delivers. It is not a plot driven book or even a character driven book, it is question driven book...Do you choose life? ... We are so happy to have received Philadelphia Chickens as a shower gift. While our 10-month old doesn't understand the lyrics, he clearly enjoys the music, bouncing and smiling whenever he hears, "Cows, we're remarkable cows....."The songs are very enjoyable for adults as well.I've given this as a gift to 3 friends and all have loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars My twins' favorite book!
I had no idea that eight month old babies could be so picky about books (especially when most of them are used as teethers), but *both* of my twins absolutely love this book -- their eyes light up whenever they see it, and they smile as they work through the pages. We actually don't read it with a square-dance rhythm (not a big square dance fan) but the kids love it anyway.I'm buying it for all future baby showers!

My son and I have read this book over and over and over again.Whether it's Halloween time or not this book will be a sure favorite of kids' who like the dark side.Don't take this to mean that the book is dark or scary. What I mean is that if your kids have a taste for spookies then this book will not fail to please.Great pictures with subtle hidden pictures that show that the spookies and such aren't real in this haunted house. The text is fun to read outloud to the wee ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Boynton Book
We've checked out a number of Boynton books from our library, and Pajama Time is the first one my daughter has really loved. She just turned two, and she is always asking for "Jammie Time" to be read to her, especially when we are getting her ready for bed.I like how the book can be sung, which always brings a smile to my daughter's face. The pictures and words are silly and seem to be very appealing to toddlers.

We love this book so much that we buy it for all our friends and family that have babies. It is the perfect rocking chair companion. We love the sing-song rhyming of the story, and we read it so much to our children (5 & 6) that we still remember all the words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodnight Moon in Spanish
As an NY born of Dominican decent, I love reading this book to my little one.My 20 month old daughter loves this book. We have both the English and Spanish versions of the book.Often times she brings her Dad or me both books to read to her.We start with one gets tired of it mid-way and then she wants us to pick up where we left off in the other language. It doesn't really matter to her which language we start/end with.We change it up all the time.I agree with some other reviewers that the translation is not exact, but the flow is very good with the changes that were made.I especially like "la viejecita que teje muy calladita" instead of "a quiet old lady who was whispering 'hush'," especially since I knit and my daughter can relate to that.Because of this book she has begun to comfortably alternate luna/moon and star/estrella.I think it's really important for my little girl to learn both Spanish and, obviously, English and this book makes it that much easier to accomplish.

I would have to say that I don't particularly agree with this book.I mean, in my opinion, the most important thing about an apple is that it is food, not that it is round.Regardless, it did provide for an interesting conversation in my 2nd grade class, as well as a fun get-to-know-you activity. After reading the book, disucssing differing view points, each student created a page about "The most important thing about me is_____".

Sweetly and simply written in a similar lulling tone as other Margaret Wise Brown books.Take it for what it is -- a children's book that offers children simple, concrete information that provides them with security and a basic understanding that regardless of how many things define us, there is at least one thing that makes us unique / who we are. And that's a good thing to know and count on. I don't think this book intends to speak to children as if they're brainless and I believe that a young, innocent mind "gets" the message.Any book that reinforces that the best, most important thing about being you is simply that you are you should be applauded and supported by all of us. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Use your judgement, and pick and choose
As a new elementary guidance counselor, I haven't found a kids' book on divorce yet that I LOVE. Meanwhile, this is useful. It covers several aspects of divorce. It is too long to use the whole thing in one sitting with young children, and not all of it applies in every situation or is appropriate with every age group. However, it's fairly easy to select what you think is helpful and appropriate for your child(ren) because of the comic-book format and different chapters on different topics (ie. Having Two Homes, Telling Your Friends, Meeting Parents' New Friends).
1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible book with negative spin
In trying to explain divorce, I read this to my son and paraphrased what the book said because I found myself surprised at the way it was written (especially since it was written by Arthur's creator, Marc Brown.) The book is negative in tone, language and illustrations. I'm not a parent trying to candy-coat divorce, but there have to be better books out there than this!
5-0 out of 5 stars Useful in school counseling groups
I use this routinely in elementary school divorce adjustment groups, particularly for grades Kinder through 3rd. The pictures are engaging and the situations are realistic. Students open up with information that helps me identify needs. Some parents have used this book with their children, and kids are always pleased to find that I have it, too. ... Read more

Artist Sandra Boynton has been charming adults for decades with her whimsical, animal-centric greeting cards and her droll sense of humor. When Boynton transferred her weirdly wonderful critters to board books for babies, she made publishing history. These short, hilarious books are perfectly suited to toddler tastes, with their small size, few words, cheerful colors, funny jokes, and silly animals. Read more

Boynton's books are WONDERFUL!We bought this set after being given several of her books as gifts.I checked a few more out of the library and had to get copies of our own.The pictures are so delightful and funny! Our 4 month old isn't necessarily into the pictures, but she loves to hear the books read to her!

5-0 out of 5 stars MEMORABLE, GREAT books!
My son is 16 years old.We bought Sandra Boynton's books when he was a baby. The illustrations are funny and they are easy to read aloud in a funny, exaggerated way.Our son loved Boynton's books so much that, 14 years later, my husband and I can STILL recite "Moo Baa La La La."We buy them for all our friends who have babies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Archly Amazing Animal Alphabet Advances Art Appreciation!
I found this book in a thrift store and was instantly mesmerized. The art is of the absolute highest caliber. Base is beyond gifted. These paintings are an ideal merger of realism and fantasy with lush, highly saturated color and deep, contrasty depth. I imagine this book could inspire any kid with a creative bent a great deal more than several trips to an art museum. I've bought copies to give to fellow artist/philosopher friends whether or not they've got kids. (We don't as yet, but we're working on it, and have beloved nieces and a nephew).
1-0 out of 5 stars This is not a children's book
Loving artistic kids' books, I thought the reviews sounded awesome. And they are so universal! I just received this book and was shocked by the violence, morbidity, darkness and eeriness of the themes. Granted, this is the work of a talented artist, but not material for a light-loving soul, much less a toddler. I can't return it fast enough.

Forced totravel far out of the city to look for work, Mike and Mary Anne find themselves in thelittle town of Popperville. Mike and Mary Anne make a bid to dig the cellar for the newtown hall, promising the town that if they can't dig the cellar in just one day they'll acceptno payment for the job. 4-0 out of 5 stars Still a Fan
I still love this book.Teaches the balance between progress and tradition.Hard work, good attitude, and ingenuity pay off in the end.Had to explain what furnace was (we live in Miami), but all my kids (8, 6, & 4) enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still one of my favorite stories
In an age when everything keeps getting replaced by more modern equipment, this story celebrates making use of a good steam shovel. I still have my copy from when I was a kid.

    Editorial Review

Poor Stanley. He's a perfectly normal boy until one morning he wakes up flat. After his parents peel the incriminating bulletin board off of him, Stanley must adjust to life as a pancake. He is a boy who takes this kind of thing in stride, though, and soon he's enjoying the advantages of squashedness.Sliding under closed doors is fun, and it's gratifying to be of use to his mother when she drops her ring through a narrow metal grating. Expensive plane fare to California? No problem. Svelte Stanley folds comfortably into a brown paper envelope. There's even room left over in there for an egg-salad sandwich. But Stanley's true moment of glory comes when a gang of thieves begins stealing paintings from the Famous Museum of Art. The case seems hopeless--until our two-dimensional hero saves the day. Here is one boy who doesn't let his profile-challenged body stop him from living life fully--that is, until his brother finds a way to help him become well rounded again. Jeff Brown's matter-of-fact tone and Tomi Ungerer's witty and engaging drawings tickle the funny bone, making this 1964 classic a perennial favorite. (Ages 4 to 8) Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Well-Rounded Adventure
Stanley has been squashed flat by his bulletin board! Now that's he's only a half-inch thick, he can slide under doors, get mailed in extra large envelopes, and be flown like a kite. When The Famous Museum of Art needs a special favor, Stanley is ready to help.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
I read this with my [...] sister and she loved it! It's a little too hard for her age because there are some vocabulary she didn't even understand but I helped her and she got along with the book very well. Very funny and humorous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Fun
A truly original premise requiring more than the usual suspension of disbelief, Flat Stanley delivers a light-hearted journey through the life of Stanley Lambchop.Stanley, a typical American boy, finds his life suddenly transformed when he is flattened by a bulletin board. His parents, in language and wit, sound like a television show family from the 50's, but with the off-beat humor and implausible story-line, it somehow all works wonderfully.Jeff Brown has created an interesting dynamic in describing the relationship between Stanley and his older brother, Arthur, who is intermittently inconsiderate and jealous of Stanley's new-found celebrity.Ultimately, however, it is Arthur who saves the day and returns Stanley to his proper size.It is a very engaging, upbeat story that is a fun read for the toddler set.I highly recommend it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Read
This book is highly entertaining. I am a HUGE fan of Judy Blume; she has written some of my favorite books. While this was a good book, I would have to say that I prefer Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great and Superfudge. This was still highly enjoyable and had a few laugh-out-loud funny parts. And who cares if it is a little unrealistic? What's wrong with a silly read every once in awhile? So anyway, I give it 4 stars.
