My daughter and I never got tired of reading this book
When she was young, this was one of my favorite books that I read to my daughter. I never got tired of telling her how great she would be when she got older. She also loved hearing it, the rhythm of the words never failed to keep her attention. I read her the entire collection of Dr. Seuss books in the local public library, and this was without question one of her three favorites. As I watch her go through life, I can't help but believe that some of the optimism for success that she possesses is a residual of hearing the words in this book.

While many rhymes in this couplet collection resemble sphinx-worthy riddles, Seuss's intention is clear: teach children to read in a way that is both entertaining and educational. It matters little that each wonderful vignette has nothing to do with the one that follows. (We move seamlessly from a one-humped Wump and Mister Gump to yellow pets called the Zeds with one hair upon their heads.) A review of the Vinyl Bath Book edition only!
Since my 7-month-old still thinks books are for putting in your mouth, I've been buying him bath books. I bought this one sight unseen from Amazon, and as much as I love the classic "One Fish, Two Fish," I was a little disappointed. First, the book is small, even for a bath book (about 4x6 inches -- the "8.3 x 4.8" dimensions in the Amazon description are just plain WRONG). Second, the book was shorter than I expected. It consists only of the first 8 pages of the original "One Fish." Of course, the baby doesn't know how abridged the book is, so he enjoys it. And the colors are bright, the printing is sharp, and the overall package is high-quality and holds up to lots of handling. But there's not much there to read to him.

Best Children's Book
The book of green eggs and ham teaches us all a valued lesson on never judgeing a book by it's cover. Even though the main character tries to convince himself of not trying green eggs and ham, when he finally does he actually really likes it. This being a perfect example of not being prejudice.

I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

Lovely
A beautifully produced book, spectacular illustrations, a heartwarming story. Especially perfect for a read aloud with 3rd and 4th graders.

Rabbit Run
This beautiful book, both in design and form, is an example of simplicity at it's best. A doll rabbit known as Edward Tulane to his owner (a small girl named Abilene) lives a life of privilege, he has the finest clothes, he has the love of a child, and he has a beautiful gold pocket watch of his very own. There is one problem however, though Edward knows love, for Abilene does love him so, he doesn't understand love. And because he doesn't understand love, he can not love nor can he know what it means to be loved. Truley and purley amazing
This book is not only pages with letters typed on them but a true masterpiece. As I read it I cried, jumped for joy and felt that Kate Dicammilo was an amazing person. Her books (Because of Win-Dixie, The Tale of Desperaux and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane) all have won well deserved awards and loved by all who read that feel the story as if were true and truly heartwarming. I've read the story countless times and each time I feel that the world is a wondrous place. Even though Edward is a china rabbit who lives, I didn't feel that it was cartoony and amusing. I felt that it was a true story and not a book that makes you laugh at how cartony it is. You MUST read this book if you are not just a kid who thinks a book is only pages and print. Dr. Seuss gives fair warning to anyone brave enough to read along with the Fox in Socks, who likes to play tongue-twisting games with his friend Mr. Knox. "Here's an easy game to play. Here's an easy thing to say.... New socks. Two socks. Whose socks? Sue's socks." But Mr. Fox Socks isn't about to let Knox off so easy. Soon Goo-Goose is choosing to chew chewy gluey blue goo, while tweetle beetles battle with paddles in a puddle (in case you were wondering, that's called a "tweetle beetle puddle paddle battle"). Mr. Knox gets exasperated: "I can't blab such blibber blubber! My tongue isn't made of rubber." But he catches on to the game before it's all through. it grew on me
When we first bought this book for my then two-year old daughter, I could barely get through it the first time.I didn't much like it.That's probably because I was so busy trying to say the words it, I couldn't pay attention to what was actually happening.Since then, the book has grown on me, and my now three-year old daughter loves it, as well.After reading the book aloud a gazillion times, I can now say it almost without getting my tongue twisted, and my favorite part is the ending, where Knox finally gets his "revenge" for what Fox has put him through.

Dr. Seuss is great...
The other review complaining about how it is shortened is just silly. Yes, the original is longer and my toddler finds it more entertaining- but when we first got this board book, ds wanted to read it several times a day. He still likes it read to him. It is perfect to start babies off on Dr. Seuss.

Yes, this is an abridged version. But it's not mutilated. The abridgement was done very sensitively, and if you didn't know better, you'd think it was just as Dr Seuss wrote it. It really captures his joyful "voice" and his distinctive lilting rhymes.

Perfect for any age
My daughter is just 2 years old and she's been making me read it to her for about 6 months now. Obviously it'll help her read in the future, but I want her to have fun with books. And this is the perfect book to start off with, even if she can't read yet.

Heed the Warning!
The Lorax is another book by Seuss with a powerful message within its pages. Its message is more overt and obvious to the reader than other Seuss books. Simply stated, we must take care of the natural resources around us or they could be forever lost. The main character in the story is filled with greed at the prospect making and selling more Thneeds. He continually ignores the Lorax's warnings. For a while, he and his family are very successful and prosperous, but in time the prophetic warnings come to pass. The trees are all gone, the air is black with smog, and the water is thick with sludge. For me, the Lorax represents those in our society who put themselves on the front lines to protect our environment. Many ridicule them and call them "Tree Huggers!" But, we should think twice before we dismiss their warnings. We have already seen many of the parallels between this book and reality occur.

Baby's Favorite Book
This is a wonderful collection of Dr. Seuss stories. My kid loves to read and re-read the classics such as 'The Grinch' and the more offbeat stories like 'Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book'. The essays are also fun to read while looking at the original artwork.
nice collection
This book is marketed for children, but it's better suited to adults who want a collection of stories without buying all the individual books, and who like the accompanying essays (they are fun!). It's less suited for children due to its unwieldly size, including the difficulty of opening the book flat. It would work fairly well for reading to one or two children sitting next to the reader, but for reading to a group, where showing the pages is vital, this volume is too awkward to handle. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't include Fox in Sox and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back.

It is great to have all these stories in one place. I almost forgot how fun they were to read, but it was something I wanted to have for Grandmothering...

SCRUMDIDLEUMPTIOUS!
The mysterious candy maker ''Willy Wonka'' is hiding five golden tickets in his famous ''Wonka Bars''. The children lucky enough to findthese tickets will be taken on a tour (hosted by Mr. Wonka himself) of the enormous Wonka factory. The world is searching frantically for the tickets, and the first person to find one is ''Augustus Gloop'' a greedy German boy is addicted to chocolate. The second ticket finder is ''Veruca Salt'' a spoiled little girl who quite literally gets everything she asks for, no matter how absurd her request is. The person who discovers the third ticket is ''Mike Teave'' an irritable boy addicted to TV. ''Be quiet'' he tells whoever is foolish enough to ask him a question while his show is on ''THIS is the life''. ''Violet Beauragrde'', a dimwitted gum chewing girl finds the fourth ticket, (she had to give up gum-chewing for a while so she could switch to chocolate. And the title character ''Charlie Bucket'' finds the fifth and final golden ticket which was quite a miracle, considering how poor his family was and how little money they had to spend on luxuries such as candy. This motely crew of children are allowed to discover the wonders of Mr. Wonka's factory.
It's about just desserts and not just about desserts
Reading a novel after having seen a cinematic adaptation is always a challenge. One of the deepest joys of reading---relying on one's imagination to create the characters, their voices, the locales, etc.---is preempted and nullified by the choices made by directors, producers, casting agents, and set designers. Thankfully, the best books which have been adapted for the screen are complex and spacious enough that they allow some free play in spite of this imaginative preemption, and such is the case with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. THE CHOCOLATEY BOOK EVER!!!

Misses many points
Yes, there is a disconnect between what is taught what is real sometimes, although I had a problem with this book being a bit too persuading. Personally, I think exposing students to the founding documents as early as possible is critical.A better choice for students might be "The Elementary Common Sense of Thomas Paine: the famous pamphlet, Common Sense, adapted and illustrated for all readers." Reading the founding documents first can be a good first step to avoiding misconceptions in American History later.

Great Marxist parody of US History
This was absolutely the funniest parody I have ever read. The eager repetition of "The Supremem Court interpreted the 14th Amendment to give civil rights to Corporations" as the SINGLE WORST argument to ever come forth from that body was one of the funniest lietmotif's in this hysterical parody of US History told from the standpoint of an over-the-top Marxist. Worse than cowboys were BUSINESSMEN!! Eugene Debs and WEB Dubois were the ONLY white americans who were not evil!
Too Politically Correct
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to notice the anti-White preaching in this book. Not what I expected at all because this is how History is taught today and this is supposed to be an answer to that. I was expecting to learn a lot more - most of the things mentioned I already knew. I graduated from high school in '89 and then got a Bachelor's degree from a state college that wasn't in History. Perhaps this book would be useful to those who have less education. ... Read more

Oh, the wonderful things Mr. Brown can do! In this "Book of Wonderful Noises," Mr. Brown struts his stuff, as he imitates everything from popping corks to horse feet ("pop pop pop pop" and "klopp klopp klopp," respectively) while inviting everyone to join him in the fun. Young readers who are still learning their sounds and letters will get a wacky workout as they follow along with the very serious-looking, squinty-eyed Mr. Brown. Whether it's eggs frying in a pan or a hippo chewing gum, the skillful Mr. Brown just keeps topping himself, with a "sizzle sizzle" or a "grum grum grum." "Mr. Brown is so smart he can even do this: he can even make a noise like a goldfish kiss!... pip!" As usual, the words and pictures of Dr.Seuss make reading (and making all sorts of funny noises) impossible to resist. Mr. Brown Can Moo! A favorite in our house!
My son got this book from grandma when he was a little over a year old.It was an automatic favorite!It starts with "Oh the wonderful sounds Mr. Brown can do.He can sound like a cow.He can go moo moo."It has pictures that are engaging for their simplicity and a rhyme that is flowing but varied so it doen't get boring.My son loved learning the noises and now he says them along with me when I read.I've even caught him looking at this book and saying the noises to himself.He's now 2 and we still read this one often (and I have it memorized).I highly recommend this book.I just don't know how you couldn't like it!

Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You
This was for my daughter who is 11 months old. I liked it because it is a board book and she cant rip the pages.

What a fun book!
My son loves this book -- and so do we!My husband and I have really enjoyed reading this book, which is great because we read it everyday.The boardbook design is perfect for young children because the pages can't be easily ripped up or torn, and if a little drool gets on a page or two, it can be wiped off with a damp rag.

oh the thinks you can think
I love it because you get to finish fast and their like riming words.I love riming words they always make me interested in the book.they say right and then they change the wordto light.Those are changing words.I love when they put the words they are supossed to put and then they change them.It was a different Dr.Suess book it was "The Thinks You Can Think" it was really incredible.

Very cute book to get your little one to think!
What a cute book!This book greatly inspires little ones to use their imaginations and think up all sorts of things.This book also reminds me of a story in Seuss' book, "I can Lick 30 Tigers Today," in which the Cat-in-the-Hat's daughter uses her imagination to think up a Glunk.That's a pretty funny story too.Anyway, in this tale, there really isn't a storyline at all.Just page after page of silly drawings of things that don't exist mostly (like how much water can 55 purple elephants drink?).My little one recognizes Seuss' drawings and always tells me that's 55 Hortons drinking water!Or, how about "schlopp.Schlopp, schlopp, beautiful schlopp.Beautiful schlopp with a cherry on top."And what on earth is a jibboo anyway?A bird's head on a human body, walking down a dark street?This book is filled with very silly things such as this, none of which make sense, but all of which cause little ones to use their imaginations.It's a great time reading this one aloud and ours gets read nightly.

"Life" magazine published a report in May of 1954 about illiteracy among American school children.One of the key things in this article was that children were not inspired to read because their books were boring, which is to say the world of Dick, Jane and Spot.So it came to pass that Theodore Geisel's publisher sent him and a list of 400 words that had to be cut to 250 (because that was how many words it was believed a first grader could understand before their heads exploded or something), and then write a book.At this point in the history of the world Geisel was best known as the creator of Gerald McBoing-Boing, an animated character for which he won an Oscar.The book, of course, was "The Cat in the Hat," which used 220 of those words, and for the rest of his life Dr. Seuss wrote books that were part of the Beginner Books and Bright and Early Books series, which proudly allowed young kids to proclaim "I Can Read It All By Myself."Consequently, Dr. Seuss was one of the major forces in American literacy in the last half of the 20th century.Read more

Greatest kids book in our house
This book was a gift and has quickly become a favorite, my favorite. It has beautiful illistrations, some rhyming and lots of imagery. I have given this book as a gift to everyone having a baby!

This is one of my daughters favorites (and I like it too!)It is a fun book to read and the pictures are really cute.Our copy goes almost everywhere with us-a second copy is in the future!

My son and my favorite book
I bought this book when my son was 11 months old.The cadence of the whole book is wonderful.I've read it slow and I've read it so fast I can't keep up with myself turning the pages.It was quickly a favorite of mine, and when my son was old enough he would get this book from his 'library' and hand it to me.Even now (he's 8) we love this book.He reads it to me.And I love to ask "faster, faster" like he would do when I was reading to him.This spring we planted a strawberry pyramid and 3 blueberry bushes.It was funny that I didn't think of this book when my son said he wanted to plant these.But it makes perfect sense now.This will be a book that is handed down to his children and bought for his nieces and nephews I'm sure.The board book format is so excellent, the book is still in fabulous shape. ... Surely among the most lovable of all Dr. Seuss creations, Horton the Elephant represents kindness, trustworthiness, and perseverance--all wrapped up, thank goodness, in a comical and even absurd package. Horton hears a cry for help from a speck of dust, and spends much of the book trying to protect the infinitesimal creatures who live on it from the derision and trickery of other animals, who think their elephant friend has gone quite nutty. But worse is in store: an eagle carries away the clover in which Horton has placed the life-bearing speck, and "let that small clover drop somewhere inside / of a great patch of clovers a hundred miles wide!" Horton wins in the end, after persuading the "Who's" to make as much noise as possible and prove their existence. This classic is not only fun, but a great way to introduce thoughtful children to essentially philosophical questions.How, after all, are we so sure there aren't invisible civilizations floating by on every mote? Evidently not even Roald Dahl could resist the acronym craze of the early eighties. BFG? Bellowing ferret-faced golfer? Backstabbing fairy godmother? Oh, oh ... Big Friendly Giant! This BFG doesn't seem all that F at first as he creeps down a London street, snatches little Sophie out of her bed, and bounds away with her to giant land. And he's not really all that B when compared with his evil, carnivorous brethren, who bully him for being such an oddball runt. After all, he eats only disgusting snozzcumbers, and while the other Gs are snacking on little boys and girls, he's blowing happy dreams in through their windows. AMAZING! For fans of Roald Dahl.
In England an orphan girl named Sophie couldn't sleep.At this time of night people called it the Witching Hour.They called it the Witching Hour because everyone is in a deep-deep sleep. Sophie sees a TALL DARK figure coming down the wrong side of the road.You have to READ the rest of the book.I enjoy it because its's funny and exciting.

The BFG is a fictional chldren's book. It was written by Roald Dahl and it was published in 1982. Roald Dahl is a great author and he has written other children's books such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. A Great Bedtime Story for Kids and Adults Alike
I remember reading this book several years ago and reading it on the bus and at school and before I went to bed. It brought me back to my childhood and the creativity and imagination I had as a child, and I'm sure several readers felt the same way.
