5-0 out of 5 stars A great book!
I loved the book!It was really nice reading it.I read itmore times than just once.I really really really like it.I like camps; and it was a little more interesting than "Puppy Problems" even thought I loved that too.I thought Bess was kind of funny in this story, because she doesn't like a boy named David Mulholland.I think you'll enjoy reading it too.

4-0 out of 5 stars I agree
[....] I liked this book but didn't love it. It was a little predictable as compared to the others in the series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Trouble at Camp Treehouse by Carolyn Keene
If you like camps you will like this book.It is one of those books that will keep you up a night reading. The "mystery" is not too hard for the recommended age group, but not too childish for an older child toread. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars How spider makes us smile
My preschooler adores this silly little book - that's good enough for me. This story is sweet and, yes, a little ridiculous - and that's just fine with us.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book when i was little!!!
chill myra...i had this book when i was little and i loved it!!! it's so calm and amusing and simple...my dad got rid of all my kid's books but i'm definately gonna buy this one for my children one day...1-0 out of 5 stars Careless & unclear
I was astonished that the spider in this story had six legs. Maybe the author wanted to let us know that you don't need eight legs to be a full-fledged spider, but I think it's irresponsible, even in a book targeting really little kids, to portray inaccurate information! Even in the earliest animal books for kids, we learn that insects have six legs, that spiders are not insects and that they have eight legs. What's wrong, Mr. Kraus??? And who was your editor? Aside from that, the story was very stupid. Fortunately, this was a library book, because I would never buy it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Eloise gets more outlandish with each book in Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight's popular 1950s series. First published in 1951--when cold war sentiments were heating up--Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More Here Than Meets The Eye
The Eloise books are treasures but this one is something more than the expected delightful romp through the world from the perspective of a precocious child. Pay close attention here and you'll find yourself reading what surely has to rank as one of the most perceptively realistic takes on what life was like in Cold War Moscow. Bread lines, censorship, spies everywhere, an unwelcoming land with cold, sterile cityscapes, and suspicion everywhere. `Bleak' is a good word for the culture Eloise encounters and Kay Thompson describes. So what is here is both another joyful trip out with our spunky six-year-old heroine, and a deceivingly focused presentation on how dreary Soviet life was fifty years ago. (And how lucky we in the west are to have the freedom and prosperity we do!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Do I recommend this book?"Oh Definitely Da."
Get out your woolies and fur hats, Eloise is going to Moscow! In the funniest of Eloise's many escapades, she travels to the Russia of the 1950s with Nanny, Winnie, and Skipperdee in tow.Apart from her usual hotel antics, including spying on the other guests and dinning on black caviar from the Caspian Sea, Eloise has many mischievous adventures at the Bolshoi Ballet, Red Square, and inside the Kremlin. While young children will not understand all the humor in this and other Eloise books, they certainly still love the outrageous heroine Eloise, who's expressions and intentions are so vividly portrayed by Hilary Knight's illustrations.Eloise in Moscow continues Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight's tradition of hilarious books for precocious grown-ups.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eloise Is Back
Eloise is back and more mischevious than ever. This time Eloise, Nanny, Weenie (her dog who looks like a cat), and Skipperdee (her turtle) are in Moscow. Eloise visits the ballet, and has a tour guide, but thinks someone is spying on her. "As you know there's no privacy in Moscow."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Steven Kellogg at his best
Steven Kellogg is one of my favorite illustrators. This hilarious tale is about a lonely dog whos owner sets out to find him a new friend.Of course mother wont' agree to another enourmouse great dane, so it has to be something small and quiet. The little girl decides on a kitten she names Rose.the problems begin when Rose thinks she's a dog and Pinkerton tries to be a cat! Find out how Pinkerton saves the day and becomes a kittens best friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Rose For Pinkerton
"A Rose For Pinkerton," is about a relationship between a cat and a dog. This fun, loving, caring, and adventurous book goes throughthefeelings Pinkerton and Rose(main characters) have. It shows the consequences of theiractions whether they are good or bad. This is a greta book that can teach children about the responsibilities of having a pet.

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids love Pinkerton!
My two daughters insist on having this book read to them every night! They are young enough that it took a while for them to understand about the"thought bubbles" that show what Rose and Pinkerton are thinking, but they loved the illustrations of Rose as a Great Dane.I think theylike Pinkerton because he's big, but he's cuddly and not threatening. It'sfun to explore the pages and name all the pets they see.My four-year-oldwanted to give this book a six-star rating, she likes it so much! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book ^.^
I really don't see how people think this book is awful, but people have different opinions. Anyways, this book was a good one. It leaves you suspensed. Some people might not think that but I loved this book!
1-0 out of 5 stars NANCY DREW what has become of you?
Nancy Drew this is NOT. If you are a fan of the old series, the Files Series, even the the Notebook series, you will really hate this new incarnation. Never have I seen a publisher try as hard to alienate fans and try to disolve a classic children's series as they have with this new detective they call Nancy Drew. Where is our girl sleuth? Well, in this version she is forgetful, annoying, childish, and lacks direction, focus and intelligence. Her relationship with her father has become somewhat trivial. Her housekeeper is on the verge of senility. Her best friends, Bess Marvin (now a mechanic) and George Fayne (now a computer geek) have totally changed focus and drive. And Ned, her constant steady, is only a brief mention. I am appalled and disappointed in the first 15 books of this series and have found no redeming value to it as a work of fiction let alone as a sorce for the continuation of this much loved series. If this is how the publishers wish the direction of Nancy Drew to proceed in the future I would say to them 'stop the series' and let the past editions stand on their merit without tarnishing its reputation as a hallmark in series books. This is not what Edward Stratemeyer and his family envisioned Nancy Drew to become. I am disappointed beyond belief.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't hesitate, buy it.
This is one of the best books I ever read to my kids. And they usually picked it first for bedtime reading. It is written in rhyme and the illustrations are absolutely wonderful.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!
This is a great rhythmical story that supports early readers because of it predictablitly of the story. The antics are fun and exciting. Also, the illustrations are absolutly FABULOUS and is what kept me interested as a child and still today as a new teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars all time favorite
This book is one of my all time favorites.I started reading to my children when they were babies - it has great rythm. It is delightful for adults, and my children have always been riveted. My one year old twins stop whatever they are doing to listen to the story whenever I startreading it.(I even "read" it to them in the car or bath becauseit is an easy little poem to memorize!) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Spaceship Earth - book to read on Earth Day
Consisting of thirty-two pages we begin You're Aboard Spaceship Earth by viewing a shuttle blasting off into space. For anyone living in Florida this is an awesome sight to take in as well as listening as the shuttle orbits. There are times when landings must take place in California when Florida is having severe weather problems and this is worth observing as well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very amusing
The only amusing thing about this collection is that Dean Koontz fancies himself a children's author. The premise is a clever idea gone horribly wrong. Much of the rhyme is unoriginal or forced and some of it goes on and on and on so that we feel we are stuck in one of the author's horror novels.Stick to what you do best Mr. Koontz and leave quality children's writing to quality children's authors, please! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Lights, Camera, boring!
This book was... well, the only nice way to say it is boring! There's absolutely NO suspense. Nancy Drew, the girl detective, is asked to star in a movie about the heist that have her town its name. But when sabatoge plagues the movie, Nancy, Bess, and George need to step in to save the day! Of course, the plot's not bad, but still... more action would be appreciated. 3 stars out of 5.

3-0 out of 5 stars Behind the scenes of:Nancy Drew Lights,Camera...
Nancy Drew books are usually full of suspense, but this one was kind of a let down. The plot really didn't grab your attention. It was hard to beleive that what was going on in the book was really happening. Although the brave and daring main character Nancy Drew is the same for all the Nancy Drew books, the "co-stars" in the book are different along with the plot for each book! In Lights, Camera ... for the first time Nancy Drew is starring in a television movie. On the set even though everything seemed okay, it wasn't! Good thing for her junior detectives who are also herbest friends, Bess Marvin and George Fayne. Both who have generously volunteered on the set. Nancy, Bess and George help each other find out who the crook is that is secertly sabotaging the set. Will they find out, or will it be a mystery forever?!

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BOOK EVER
I have been reading this book to my lil girl since she was 10 months, she loves it! At the end, when the lil girl pops up from the blanket, my little girl smiles every time! LOVE IT, there needs to me more mother/daughter books like these!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Surprise
My 20 month old son has a very eclectic taste in the books he enjoys.I was surprised when he pulled this off of his book shelf amidst many other books. It is now the favorite book and we read it over and over and over again. The text is simple; the illustrations are realistic yet warm; and, we never grow tired of discussing the illustrations on each page.I think he enjoys it because of the above reasons, and because it is predictable, yet the "surprise" ending never becomes boring. This book is truly a "find."

5-0 out of 5 stars adorable story of love between mother and daughter
A lovely story of a toddler girl hiding under a blanket and playing a game of "what is under the blanket"? Mother makes many guesses as to what it can be and each response is "I don't need (the item)". At the end the girl pops out and declares the lump was "me" and then mother states that is just what she needed. This is very cute and shows love and typical interaction between a loving mother and adoring daughter. I have the board book version and I am sure it will get much repeated use. The theme of love between parent and child is not seen often enough in children's books and I am glad to see it in this book. Often books focus on the child, the child's activities, or objects (cars, trains, toys, etc.) rather than focusing on the expression and communication of love between parent and child. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A classic children's book
I had to review this book because I was absolutely obsessed with it as a child. I can't count the number of times I must have read it. I'm not sure what my reaction would have been if I'd read it as an adult, as this work was meant for children, but based on my childhood memories, it's a great kid's book! I only knocked off one star based on some of the anti-Irish, anti-American references that were edited out of my childhood copy but are present in some printings.

1-0 out of 5 stars BoRiNg!
Bought because it's purportedly a 'MUST READ' of recommended English 19th century literature and I'm trying to read every good book I can before I die (hopefully at 90). Unfortunately, this book is a waste of time as it's BoRiNg (even w/ the footnotes that I so dearly love).
4-0 out of 5 stars "My Name is Written in my Eyes..."
"The Water-Babies" by Charles Kingsley is best described with reference to J. M. Barrie's more famous work "Peter Pan", both of which belong in the canon of Victorian fairytales. Kingsley's work is poised between two words: the world of Christianity and the whimsical realm of fairies, and the onset of the scientific and historical developments that resulted in the evolution theory, industrial factories and the War. Although certainly not as famous as Barrie's tale of the boy that never grew up, Kingsley's story is equally fascinating, though much more difficult to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amusing !!!
I like this book from the very first page.Mrs. Gray,a widow has given birth to 20 mice.Wow! That's a lot. From her first husband,Mr. Brown,7 and from the next one,Mr. Black,10 more and her deceased husband,3.The rest of her children have left their home and are out earning their living.Mrs. Gray teaches her three trins(triplets actually),Henry,Richard and Thomas to be the toughest mice in the house. In the house, the mice are divided into 4 tribes, the Attic(which is at the very top of the house),the Ups(just below),the Downs and the Cellarmice. These 4 clans never gather together and unite. The Terrible Trins(that's what Mrs. Gray calls them)learn a lot of stuff from their mother. She teaches them that unity is strength. The Terrible Trins manage to get rid of the two cats in the house and make the farmer,Farmer Budge goes angry with everything he sees.On the contrary his wife likes all living creatures including mice. When the farmer is not around, she will spring the mouse traps and throw away the poison. But that is not enough.A lot of mice still get trapped. Will The Terrible Trins be able to get rid of the poison and mouse traps and show Farmer Budge that mice aren't as bad as he thinks? I really love this book.It is so exciting, enthralling and lovable.I bet you will rate this one of the best animal book in the world.
