4-0 out of 5 stars A 'Best Kept Secret' of literature
'Kim' is a work that could receive very different reviews depending on the biases of the reviewer.
5-0 out of 5 stars The colourful novel of a journey and a quest
Throughout this novel, one senses that R. Kipling was a loyal British subject though he was born in Inda. He believed in the imperial authority of his queen and country and his defence of the British rule in India gave rise to controversy at the end of the 18th century. Interestingly enough, as one progresses through "Kim", one feels the author's passion for his beloved India, a country he nevertheless believed should be ruled by white men since, in his view, they are superior. In fact natives are routinely depicted as inferiors but Kipling's racial stereotyping was not outrageous more than a hundred years ago.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books ever written
I am surprised, looking back -- I first read this book when I was about thirteen.I loved it.And every time I have revisited this classic I have been more impressed.Someone, somewhere, must surely have remarked that a novel is typically the portrait of the author, in excruciating detail. If that is true, I would have loved to know Rudyard Kipling. What a generous and open-hearted man he was!

5-0 out of 5 stars love it
I used it to make an interactive bulletin board for my classroom. It is simple but it gets the point across.I use it with my 8th and 9th grade students, and they don't mind that it's a picture book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who Eats What? Food Chains and Food Webs
I found this book to be very entertaining and I feel the children's interest held to the very end of the story.

3-0 out of 5 stars Food Chains and Food Webs
Detailed examples of food chains and food webs, but hard to follow the arrows in the illustrations in food chains.

4-0 out of 5 stars Archie, charming as ever
It's the day of the neighborhood pet show, and Archie plans to take his cat. But where IS the cat? Archie can't find it, so Peter, Roberto, and Susie reluctantly go to the pet show without him. 5-0 out of 5 stars Pet Show - Cute Even For the Moms and Dads Who Read It :)
Poor Archie. In the previous EJK book "Hi Cat," a darn alley cat follows him home after wreaking havoc with his day. Now, in "PetShow," Archie is ready to enter the contest with said cat -- but cathas vanished.Archie ultimately displays cleverness as well as kindness, awonderful lesson for little ones.EJK's books are always visuallygorgeous, with colors and textures that delight readers. But even thegrownup who reads this book will appreciate clever little Archie and thereminder that sometimes, tough situations require a little ingenuity and ahelping of grace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great children's book and what pictures!!
I liked this book because of its colorful illustrations that enliven the story. The stories that Ezra Jack Keats write are so good to use for children to relate to.I recomend his books to teachers to use inbibliotherapy and for just anyone to read. I also have read "Peter'sChair" and again just as in all his other books you find real lifesituations in relation to life. Then there's his wonderfull illustrations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars what an awsome book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i read the first book at my school and just had to read them all. the series haseverything, from high speed chases in a corvette to nearly deadly meetings with bald assasin. You'll sit down to read the first couple chapters but instead you will get hooked and read the whole book. first there parents have a friend who tells them he works for the FBI .he tells them that they are helping the fbi but the info they create falls into the hands of terrorists. the parents are put in jail for life now theirkids are breaking the law, running from the FBI,wanted by every cop in the country, and to make things worse an assasin is after them, all to prove their parents inesent.this book is full of suspense, action, and adventure. SO JUST READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't believe I'm the fifth person to give a review for this book!!
Finally the last book to the, On the Run series. Meg and Aiden Falconer are now desperate to stop Hairless Joe... well I should really say Uncle Frank. So they try to set a trap but the trap fails and Aiden thinks of a better plan but, may be suicidal... I'm series anybody who reads the series has to READ THIS BOOK!!! Or anybody who hasen't read the series, go for it because like these series are awesome!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Killer
It all began when Aiden and Meg's parents were sent to jail for something they say they didn't do. Aiden and Meg are fugitives trying to prove there parents innocent, but they have a killer on there tail. This is a very action packed story because Aiden and Meg encounter the killer five or six times. When Aiden is about to risk his life for his family Meg does something very brave to save him but will it work? You'll have to read this book to find out. Hunting the Hunter is not appropriate for everyone. There is a lot of violence in the book because Aiden and Meg are getting chased by a professional assassinator. Also, Aiden and Meg steal a lot of things. I would recommend this book to people ten and up. I loved this book because I like action Packed stories with close encounters and exciting pages. If you like those kind of stories you should read this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Son of the REAL Godfather....
Vince Luca is your normal, average, seventeen year-old guy... except for the fact that his father is the most powerful Mob boss in New York City.Although Vince wants absolutely nothing to do with the family business, he just can't avoid it.Like the time when he found a guy in his trunk, or the time he found his locker stuffed with stolen Palm Pilots, his father's job is unavoidable. But now, fate throws Vince another curveball that lands him dating the daughter of an FBI agent, the same agent who's trying to put his father behind bars.
3-0 out of 5 stars Mob?
When this said mob, I chose it to read thinking there would be action and killings. I after all did enjoy all his other books. After reading it, I thought it was just O.K. I did find it was geared towards girls because of all the romance. I would probably only recommend this for a quick read or a book report. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Read With Caution
Leo the Late Bloomer occupies a dusty, terrifying shelf in one of the furthest reaches of my memory.
4-0 out of 5 stars My thoughts on Leo the late bloomer
I like the story because it relates to delays and that, when the time is right, they can be overcome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leo the Late Bloomer
Leo the Late Bloomer is as silly as little penguins sliding around on their bellies. First, Leo, the main character, is a tiger. He is also a late bloomer. For example, he can't read, write, draw, or ear politely! Second, Leo's dad is very worried because Leo is a late bloomer. His mother assures him that Leo will be okay, but Leo's dad follows Leo around anyway. Third, when Leo finally "blooms" he finally fits in with every body else. He is very happy! This is a great book for anyone who is looking for an easy to read and enjoyable book.

The Lets-Read-and-Find-Out Science book series is great. It is the right amount of information and the right level for young readers. My first grader read 200 books last school year and it was nice to know she was learning about her world at the same time. She read this and other books from the series to my four year old who also retained much of the information.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Feel Good Book!
I was young when I first heard the story of Herman the Helper. I liked the way the pictures and words made me feel so good inside. Although the book was on loan from the library and had to be returned, my persistent parents looked everywhere for the book and finally located it in California. The book made its way back home with them in NY, and I still have it, 20 years later!

Herman the Helper was my favorite book as a little girl, and I was thrilled to find it at Amazon. The illustrations are so colorful and inviting; I used to spend hours with this book. The story is also upbeatand very charming, so if you have kids, or if you still feel like one, you'll love Herman!

1-0 out of 5 stars From a Koontz fan: I give up.
I have been a Dean Koontz fan for years. When he is at his best, heis books are VERY good. I used to think that even when he's formulaic, at least his books are always entertaining. Recently, I've had to reevaluate him. He can write books that are bad. I was disappointed by "The Taking", and now this... I've been listening to this as an audiobook, but now I'm turning it off. I usually don't write reviews on books or films I don't finish, but this one, I had to give up and feel abliged to warn others.
5-0 out of 5 stars pretty dang good
this is my first dean koontz book, and me and my family are listening to it on tape. This makes the book very intence, but the voice that reads it, is the most soothing thing i've ever heard in my life. i don't suggest the tape until after reading the book or something.

4-0 out of 5 stars Like a Treasure Chest in an Old Attic
I started reading Nancy Drew mysteries in the late 1960s, so most of the books I read had already been updated.I did always seem to prefer the older versions when I could get my hands on them, because I loved the illustrations, but I did not know that even the older versions I read were condensed versions of the original books that were written in the 1930s.Thus, when I found the collectors' edition for sale on Amazon, I just had to make the purchase. Was it worth it?I discovered that I already had copies of most of the mysteries on my bookshelf, which meant that even though the stories were slightly different, it was not like reading a completely new mystery, so I was slightly disappointed on that count. On the other hand, the illustrations in these books are superb, and the old-timey dialogue and character descriptions really make me feel like I have stepped back in time, or maybe just found a treasure chest in an old attic, so I would have to say that yes, it was worth it.In sum, if you have already read the titles in the collectors' edition and you aren't much for re-runs in general, then maybe this Amazon purchase is not for you.But if you used to be or still are a big Nancy Drew fan, and/or if you just have a thing for things of the past, then I think you will love this lovely collection of Nancy Drew mysteries. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A true story of friendship
Farfallina and Marcel is a true story of friendship. It teaches us that even through natural changes in life we can remain friends. This is a favorite story of my 4 year old son who likes to hear it over and over again. The water color pictures are beautiful and add a soft warm feeling to the book. I believe it's message is timeless and we will enjoy reading it to our children for years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite of everyone in our family
This wonderful, gentle story is a perfect end to a busy day. Our two ball-of-energy boys gladly climb into our laps at bedtime for another rereading of "Farfallina and Marcel." It's one of my husband's favorite bedtime stories to read aloud, and it always gives us all a warm, snuggly feeling (very conducive to quickly falling asleep!). This tale of enduring friendship and loyalty is enhanced by Keller's precise, yet accessible prose and the quiet beauty of her watercolor illustrations. Everyone from Papa to our kitties enjoys curling up on the bed together for this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Three stars for lack of illustrations, (almost) five stars for the stories.
Until I read this book, I had not realized how much of the charm for Robert Munsch's stories came from the plentiful illustrations with only a little text on a page. (In other words, this is the Reader's Digest Condensed Books version of all the stories--except that the pictures are what have been condensed.)
5-0 out of 5 stars The Munschworks Grand Treasury: Stories
My classroom loves these stories. Most stories are on the AR list also.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
If you have a child like mine who loves scientific minutia then this is the book for you.It is technical and not appropriate for younger preschoolers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book about an awesome journey
This book arrived at our library last week, and I was immediately blown away by it! Faith McNulty and Steven Kellogg have done a great job of showing and telling children what a trip to the moon would really be like.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is a fun book
I am a grade one student. My teacher gave this book for home work. The book is so much fun to read.I like the way the artist drew the hens when they saw the boa constrictor.I also like the way he drew how the pigs stare when the kids threw the corn.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Old Favorite, Well Done
There are many, many different illustrations of these verses, but Mr. Keats has certainly done an excellent job of making his book distinctive.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Babies, Kids and Adults to Share!
We love this book!I hope it never ever goes out of print. We started reading it with our son when he was about 11 months old.He loved the rhythms and we all loved the illustrations. It is beautiful to look at while you read. Now our son is almost two and I find that this book just gets better and better for us to read.We all have it memorized (my son chimes in at the end of each line). We are trying to teach him to count and he loves animals, both of which are so wonderfully illustated by Keats.A true classic!A "must have" for kids!I am buying it now for a friend who is pregnant and, like me, loves nature.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent rendition!
From the award winner Ezra Jack Keats comes another masterpiece of a picture book.Based on the original by Olive Wadsworth, Keats's animals come alive on the page as the babies perform their mothers' commands.Keats uses bright colors and simple lines to make this a good book forsharing with a large group or single child. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Shadow dances
In many ways, the collected works of E.L. Konigsburg can be summarized quite simply. With few exceptions, her books feature children wise beyond their years.Whether you're skimming the self-aware musings of Claudia in, "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" or chancing across the adventures of the kids of, "A View From Saturday", Konigsburg excels at creating kids that embodythe statement, Know Thyself. And the best example of this, without question, is her 1979 collection of five short stories entitled, "Throwing Shadows".The bookflap for this work says of the characters that, "In each of these lives something happens that allows the hero to throw a shadow that is his very own, one that is sharp and has a shape as specific as a fingerprint".At its worst, this book seems like a series of writing assignments penned by the author. At its best, it tells unique tales about learning to be honest with one's self.
