4-0 out of 5 stars What Good Is Snow?
Rather than attempting to explain how snow is made, this book discusses the good and bad things about snow. For instance, snow protects plants and animals from harsh winds and can keep things warm. However, snow can also bury food for animals and cause floods in the spring. This book is fairly easy for pre-schoolers to understand though there are a few difficult words they have trouble understanding at first (thermometer and temperature). The illustrations that accompany the text are colorful, yet not overpowering. A great science book to use for preschoolers when talking about winter.

4-0 out of 5 stars General Introduction to Snow
Rather than go into the science of how snow is formed, this book discusses the effects of snow... Snow protects plants and hibernating animals from wind and cold and, in the spring, melted snow waters the new plants. The book also discussed the dangerous conditions snow can cause. The colorful illustrations and subject of the text make it a good book for a pre-kindergarten curriculum. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I liked this book
This book picks up where Leon and the Spitting Image leaves off.Leon is in fifth grade. He has two friends, P.W. and Lily Matisse. He collects potato chip bags. His science teacher, Mr. Sparks, asked Leon and his classmates what their hobbies were.Leon says, "potato chips"!Mr. Sparks says the class can spend the rest of the year learning about potato chips. And that is just what they do.On one occasion, Mr. Sparks takes the class on a field trip to a potato chip factory. It is funny because Lumpkin eats "president-shaped" potato chips. The book includes drawings of all 42 presidents as potato chips.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just didn't keep my attention.
Well, I usually enjoy the nancy drew stories alot. But this one didn't have a very good plot. Some parts I really liked and it made me want to keep turning the page, but most of it wasn't like that. I think 3 stars suits **THIS** book. Not all the other ones in the series. (I also recommend that you read the nancy drew files)

4-0 out of 5 stars Book Review: The Clue in the Jewel book
The Clue in the Jewel Box by Carolyn Keene was an exciting novel. It is part of the Nancy Drew series. It was a little slow getting into the mystery, but after the mystery part of the book got started, it got really good.It was definitely a cliffhanger.Nancy helps a former queen from Europe find her long lost grandson. Before long, Nancy finds the prince, or so she thinks. Nancy catches the prince taking small amounts of money from the queen, Mrs. Alexandria. Her grandson is also has very bad manners for a prince. What's going on with the prince?Read the book to find out! If you enjoy this suspenseful book, be sure to read the rest of the series! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rich, vibrant colors from a remarkable author
This is the story of two boys who find a pair of motorcycle goggles. They wear them long enough for a group of older boys to try and take them. Fortunately the boys who found the goggles are wiley enough to escape. The last line of the story is cute..."Things look fine now!"
5-0 out of 5 stars Love the books about Peter...
I think this is a great book, along with the other books in the series. My two-year old daughter likes to read the books about Peter and in fact, will turn the pages and "read" the book herself, talking about the pictures which vividly tell the story. We live in the city and I like that these books are not set in the suburbs or countryside as many children's books only show that type of lifestyle.I would not characterize these books as being set in the ghetto or inner city as other reviewers have; I think it's just a portrayal of life in the city vs. the typical idyllic children's book setting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grew up with this book!
As a tyke in the 70's, I remember reading "Goggles!" many times and always finding myself emerced in the story. I now have twin boys that I can read it to and show them what their dad grew up with. Great book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for children and a nice trip down memory lane!
Be sure to get this classic. It so aptly captures the joy and innocence of childhood exploration of their surroundings. The colors are just gorgeous in the illustrations and it's just so sing-songy that it's quite easy for a little one to memorize.Very, very cute and a nice change from some of today's children's books. It's nice to go back a few years and read about the innocence of youth. Our little one truly loves this story (yes, we've read it over, and over, and over...) and we highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF CHILDHOOD
This is a classic story book.Very simple, but the best thing about it are the pictures by the late Disney Legend Mary Blair. If you were a child in the sixties or seventies this book will bring back memories of a gentler time and the feelings we all at one time have that nothing is impossible -- because that word isn't in our vocabulary yet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Some editions remove half the pages!
"I Can Fly" is a wonderful book. We purchased the board book edition after reading the hardcover from our library. We were very disappointed that two editions, at 24 pages, are quietly missing half the pages of the 48 page hardcover edition. The missing animals are "I can grab like a crab", "Who can walk like a bug? Me Ug ug", "Pick pick pick I'm a little chick", "Who can live in a hole? Me! Like a mole", "Who can climb anywhere? Me! Like a bear.", "Bump bump bump I'm a camel with a hump", "Haw haw haw I'm a donkey in the straw", "Howl howl howl I'm an old screech owl". You're missing out on half the fun here! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun from beginning to end
Sure, the plot is silly. What do you expect when the premise is that a tadpole caught in Loch Ness turns out to be more than Uncle McAllister bargained for? The Mysterious Tadpole is a rollicking romp, rich in absurdity (Only after Alphonse grows four legs and reaches the size of a Volkswagen does the teacher conclude that he's not an ordinary tadpole.), and chock full of Steven Kellog's usual hilarious illustrations. Grab the nearest child, curl up in a big chair, and enjoy The Mysterious Tadpole.

4-0 out of 5 stars If it ain't broke
I loved this book as a child and have loved reading it to my son. He received the 25th Anniversary edition for Christmas and while it's very, very good, it has been rewritten and simply lacks the charm of the original (which I would rate an enthusiastic 5 stars). The story is still wonderful and if this is the only copy you have access to, you won't be disappointed. The original, though, is the best and that's why I have to give this edition 4-stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, i found the name of the book!
This was one of my favorite stories as a kid, but i forgot the name. i asked every kindergarden teacher i could find if they knew the book about the kid who gets a baby loch ness monster from his uncle and no one had any idea what i was talking about. I'm so happy i found it here because now i can get it for my son to enjoy. This is such a cute story! ... Read more

My book is called The Stray, It takes place on the beach and at a nursing home and a house that a old lady runs away from the nursing home because she was bored at the nursing home. This book has lots of action. This is sad too because the old lady thought this boy at the beach was drowning and she thought it was a boy that she knew and she went out to the water and picked the boy up and carried him to the beach. The boy was saying let me go and this boys dad said to this old lady let go of my son so the old lady let goof the boy and saw the boy that the old lady was looking forthen she had a heart attack. I finish one and my daughter immediately wants another book. If I get through all the ones I order online then she wants me to re-read them. They have about 8 chapters so I make it last a week with 2 chapters on the last night. I started my daughter out when she was 3, on the old Raggedy Ann and Andy chapter books which are in reprint now. She had a little bit of a hard time going from a book with all pictures to a book where you imagine most of it. The Nancy Drew stories were a little hard to get started on because her complaint was that the pictures (1 or 2 per chapter) are all black and white drawings. I told her that she can look at the cover to see the color picture. Once she heard the first chapter, she didn't care if it had pictures or not. She was hooked. You know I liked these books so well I just bought my daughter's school a set of 10 for their library. They are really good. If you want your child to start early on reading get them started on this series. I hope that one day my daughter will be reading them to me. :o) Enjoy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great book....................
This book is great for children learning how to read and also for parents to read to smaller children, and even for use as a picture book. The bright, vivid illustrations play off the wonderful storyline to create an irresistible book. As a child this book was one of my favorites and now i still love reading it to my younger siblings.

5-0 out of 5 stars TAKE MY WORD> THIS BOOK IS GOOD
i loved this book a lot. BEsides the nancy and frank aspect, there was a lot of action, bombs, knives, terrorsits etc..of course the nancy frank thing convinced me to buy the book, but i enjoyed the mystery a lot too. I also likes how nancy is portrayed in this book, not like in Operation titanic or royal revenge, she is very clever. also Unlke all other super mysteries, Frank's thoughts and feelings are portrayed deeper than all other characthers. And there are some funnny things and comments going on between the brothers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy and Frank Forever
I think that Nancy and Frank should dump their boyfriends and girlfriends and stay together. I mean they are obviosly perfect for each other. The best parts are when they almost kiss. But when they kiss, that was good too!!! This is the best book ever!!! ... Read more
