5-0 out of 5 stars Heavenly
My 9 month old grandson loves to be read to. He points to the pictures of the sheep

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun to read and my 3-yr-old loves it!
This is a very simple book that uses a lot of rhyming words with the "eep" sound (sheep, jeep, beep, etc.).My son has memorized the book and loves to "read" it to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sheep books are the best
Sheep in a Jeep was the first sheep book I purchased, I happened across it in a discount store and picked it up. I fell in love! I had to buy all the other sheep books. The rhyming is great, the story cute, the artwork is wonderful. Great for little kids and those of us who are just kids at heart! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Among the greatest charms of children is their ability to view a simple activity as a magical adventure. Such as a walk in the woods late at night. Jane Yolen captures this wonderment in a book whose charm rises from its simplicity. "It was late one winter night, long past my bedtime, when Pa and I went owling." The two walked through the woods with nothing but hope and each other in a journey that will fascinate many a child. John Schoenherr's illustrations help bring richness to the countryside adventure. The book won the 1988 Caldecott Medal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended
My 4 1/2 year old grandson LOVES this book. His "usual choice" in books is one with LOTS of action. This book appeals to his love of family and animals. He now asks to go "owling" - and we plan to take him! There's a peaceful warmth in this story - a story that makes a child want to curl up in your lap and hear it "again".I highly recommended it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Owl Moon
A treasure for every child's library.A "warm hug" of a book sure to be read aloud many, many times and cherished as your child grows.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Book
This is one of the most beautiful books I've ever seen. The illustrations and the story complement each other perfectly. I got so lost in the pictures and the words that after closing the book I was momentarily confused by the sunny day outside.

3-0 out of 5 stars Can be used to teach about trees and their seasonal changes.
This book covers the basics of what a tree goes through every season.Arnold and his dog take you through each season and explain what type of activities they do with the tree.Winter they build a fort around the tree for company, summer they build a treehouse, fall they rake and pick apples and in spring they hang out in the tree and smell the apple blowwoms and build a tree swing.Arnold treats the tree as his friend through-out the book.On a few of the pages, there is a recipe for apple pie, directions and explanations of what a cider press is and does and facts about honeybees. My overall impression of the book is that it is an okay book with okay pictures. If it wasn't partially educational, it wouldn't have been rated with 3 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful and sweet, although, perhaps, a bit bland
I found this to be a very useful book for introducing the concept of seasons to my 5 yr old son. It's beautifully illustrated and the story is quite sweet, although I'm not sure how frequently he will ask to hear it again. It's not likely to end up on his list of favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Teaching the Seasons
I recently purchased this book for my kindergartener to do a book project. He needed a book about the seasons, and this one fit perfectly. It simply illustrates and tells what happens to Arnold's apple tree around the year as each season passes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining with a sweet lesson
We bought this for our preschooler to help him understand the everyday life that happens at school, especially all of those unwritten, social playground rules that can be hard for kids to take in.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Recess Queen
I used this book as a teaching tool in my new student group. The students loved the story and how a new student can shake up the recess bully just by inviting her to play. I used the story as a tool for teaching about bullying and means for stopping the bullying. Great story!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Recess Queen
My daughter loved this book!We read it at least 20 times so far.She listened with interest at how Mean Jean controlled the school playground until a new little girl came to school and changed things. We laughed to see how they jumped rope together after resolving things on the playground. An excellent book to show your child that he/she is not alone if there is a bully at their school. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Train Your Child To Be An Analytical Thinker (and Innoculate Him Against Math Phobia)....
After her math teacher "Mrs. Fibonacci" says that almost everything could be thought of as a math problem, the narrator enters a bizarre realm where "everything seems to be a problem," and it gets increasingly worse, as she becomes a "math zombie" before the brilliant (and for older folks, profound) conclusion. The math problems start out simple ("It takes me 10 minutes to get dressed...If my bus leaves at 8:00, will I make it on time?"), even English is a math problem ("If mail+box=mailbox... Does lipstick-stick=lip?)"Money, time, measurement, fractions, sequences, estimation, sets, logic and more are covered--there's even a quadratic formula and mention of Zeno! The brilliance of this book is that it anticipates and removes the obstacle of math phobia, specifically fear of word problems, that I saw more often than not back when I was a math teacher.Although the bookcover says "For ages > 6 and < 99,"and that is true because of the layers of relevance, I'd especially recommend it for early third grade, that way by the time the onslaught of word problems begins, word problems will seem more like word "puzzles" and fun.Great critical thinking tool, fun both in its story and visuals.

1-0 out of 5 stars Um...yeah
This book is really stupid and, honestly, if I had children, I would not ever put them down by giving them this book.Anyone who has a brain with a capacity higher than that of one with F.A.S. should be able to figure out the answes within two seconds or less and is a waste of money and time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Real-Life Math Book
This book is great for showing kids how math constantly appears in real life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for adults, too!
We received this CD for a gift a year ago and my kids(4 1/2 and 13mo) and I still BOTH enjoy hearing it!Fun, catchy tunes, with a bit of humor for adults, and silliness for kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wholesome family entertainment we can ALL sing along to!
Despite some unevenness , this album and its accompanying book are a drive-time hit in our household - amazing considering my kids are 10 and 11 - oh, and a baby, who probably doesn't get all the subtleties, but enjoys the music nonetheless.
5-0 out of 5 stars For the seriously silly

5-0 out of 5 stars AIR GUITAR HEAVEN FOR MY 5, 6 & 8 YEAR OLDS. THEY LOVE THIS CD/BOOK - ROCK ON!
I almost can't believe that some reviewers are so critical. My kids don't know the writer/illustrator from a hole in the wall -- but I have to re-play the Bacon Brother's "Pots and Pans" and that other hot rockin' tune that has something to do with broccoli(eieieieie!) over and over.My three kids have formed their own backseat air guitar/drums/whatever band, they've memorized the lyrics, they're getting along and, when I gaze back at them, they're NOT brain frozen, dull eyed focussed on a little screen tv watching a video.Movin' and Groovin', baby.I love it, so do they. ROCK ON, DOG TRAIN!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rejoice, Boomers.Rock 'n' Roll is hear!
Tired of listening to your G'childs "Wee-sings" & Raffi? Do we really have to listen to these again...& again & again
5-0 out of 5 stars Great sequel!
This book delivered exactly what I expected from a sequel to Philadelphia Chickens and Rhinoceros Tap (as well as Pigorian Chants). The kids just love it and the songs and music are good to listen to for adults as well. While they can be silly, they are contemporary and inspire, rather than grind on your nerves like some other kids song books. Definitely worth a look and listen many times over. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great books for every child!!!
The books are great! This volume : The Going to Bed Book, But Not the Hippotamus, Opposites, Horns to Toes; I must say that I am going to get more of Sandra Byonton's books. The rhymes are short and simple but nice and I think this is important for infants as their attention span is pretty short. The illustrations are wonderful and kids won't go tired of them forever as they are cartoon characters. My 8 month old and 6 years old daughters to enjoy listening to the rhymes and looking at the pictures as I enjoy reading the books to them. Get these volume now.....

5-0 out of 5 stars great for under two
I bought these books for my daughter and she just loves them. Plus, they're so easy for her to handle since they are board books. She loves to just sit in her chair and "read" them by herself too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boynton Books are Best
These books are great for the 0-3 age group. They have cute little animals that are likable and just look like they would be fun to know in person. The books are short with catchy rhymes. They are easy to read and easy to memorize. For those with a short attention span, like the active toddler age, these books are perfect.

3-0 out of 5 stars A lesser spinoff from "If You Give a Pig a Pancake", but my daughter still loves it!
Our first "If you give" book was the "Pancake" title. It was an instant hit with my daughter. We moved on to "Party". It is definitely good and entertaining, but it definitely reads and feels like a spinoff. Where "Pancake" flows out of a single gesture, "Party" feels forced, and just doesn't seem as funny and delightful. Plus, in this book, the pig somehow seems more demanding and selfish than in the Pancake book. Hard to explain unless you read it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Livin High on the Hog?
Living high on the hog. This brings new meaning to those words and that's a good thing. It's not the "gimme gimme" attitude and materialistic lifestyle that makes this little piggy happy, oh no.It's just enjoying life by creating happiness in everything you do while remembering that sharing your heart with others doubles the fun!
5-0 out of 5 stars ...will put visions of celebration into each readers head, leaving everyone eager to have a party of their own!
Everyone knows that pigs can be a handful. Which is why it's probably never a good idea to throw a pig a party. For if you give a pig a party, she's bound to want balloons to accompany said party. And, once she's got balloons, she'll, of course, want to decorate the entire house. Then, once the decorating is done, she'll want to get all dolled up - in her favorite dress. And once she's done that, she's going to want to call all of her friends on the phone, and invite them over to celebrate. But if they're not home...well, she'll just have to go out and look for them. Which can only mean trouble.

4-0 out of 5 stars Big Box of Boynton
Barnyard Dance! & Pajama Time! are a couple of our all time favorites. Excellent and fun!Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs is just OK in my opinion and that's why this group of books received a 4 star rating instead of 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barnyard is Best Boynton Book!
We (my one year old) daughter and I love the Barnyard Dance! She actually started liking the book when she was about 9 months. I borrowed it from the public library, thought it was the best Boynton book ever and asked for it for Christmas. The number two choice, in my opinion is "One, Two, Three."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Baby Books, Great Memories
We received Barnyard Dance! and Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs! when our son was born.We started reading them to him before he could talk. There is a wonderful, enchanting way that Boynton uses words and drawings to create an exciting connection for young children. In addition, I will remember until the day I die the joy of my son pointing at words or characters as I read the text with enthusiastic expression.Six years later, our daughter was born and we renewed our connection with Boynton's books with the same heart-warming experience. These are simply great pre-reader books. Both my wife and I recommended them and we have given sets to friends who have also found them to be fun and joy-full. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite in our house!
This and "Once Upon a Potty" are my son's (age 2) favorites. It's a great potty book, and personally, I think it's a plus that it's unclear whether the child in the story is a boy or a girl - that just means either gender will easily be able to relate. As for whether it encourages toddlers to use the potty, I think it does. Whenever we read this, my son shouts "Diapers off!" and flies to the potty chair. One thing that's a real positive about this is that it's a bit long. That's been a help keeping my son sitting on the potty longer without being distracted by a toy or a noise or whatever. I'd highly recommend A Potty for Me for anyone looking to start or add to their potty training toolbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great potty book!
My son (2 years) has loved this book for months. In fact, our family has memorized it now, we have read it so many times.I like how it written on a child's level and emphasized that the most important part of the whole potty learning process is that the child feel good about his/her accomplishments!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's all in how you know your child will respond...
I have a little boy who will be 3 very soon.He is now at the stage where he tells me when to change poopy diapers, so I know that he is now entering the potty training stage. When looking for a book on encouraging the "potty" concept, I was so delighted to find a Karen Katz book.My child has two Katz books previous to this and loves the illustrations and easy language.Previous books were very instrumental in his grasp of sharing and not hitting. So it led me to purchase this book on potty training. So far, my son has LOVED the book and requests for me to read it over and over.He also is applying the concepts in the book to our visits to the big potty.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter
This was my first purchase from Amazon and I was very pleased with the professional service and the quick delivery of my order

5-0 out of 5 stars A staple for every home library
How wonderful it has been to get reintroduced to all of Potter's sweet characters. My mom had a small board book collection when I was growing up and I forgot all about these stories. There is just something so warm and relaxing about them.My four year old is loving them (they're a bit too long for my two year old's attention span and she usually wanders away after awhile). However you just can't go wrong with this book--it's a classic and definitely timeless. My only suggestion is that sometimes a "complete" edition is the cheaper route to go, but it does make for a heavy book for little ones to tote around or try to flip through. So if you are looking for something to be a more kid friendly you may want to purchase the individual stories separately.

The book I received wasn't the same as the one pictured in the listing. It is the same text but it came in a box as opposed to having a dust cover. Other than that I am happy with my purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal for Young Children
I bought this book two years ago when my husband and I separated. It was the perfect story to tell my 3 year old son while we transitioned to our new situation. After the first couple readings, it went back on the shelf for almost a year. Now that he's 5, it's regained popularity. I even heard HIM read it to his cousin to explain why he has two homes while his cousin only has one. It seems to be a good way for him to share his situation with his young friends. A true gift! Thank you Claire Masurel!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have for 3-5 year olds... and comes with a lasting title!
Of the several separated-parenting/divorce children's books I got, this one really stood out at least apologetic and most encouraging of stability and normalcy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Two of everything ~ including parents!
It is an excellent book! The biggest reason why I like it is that it is a neutral book ~ the child has two of everything ~ it doesn't convey the child lives with one parent and visits the other parent. I really like this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We love this book!
My daughter is only 20 months old now, but we began reading this book to her at about 14 months. She has learned the names of fruits in spanish and how to count to 5 within a couple of weeks of beginning to read it.It is one of her favorite books along with "Oso pardo, Oso pardo...".This is one of the required books for a spanish class that she will be beginning when she turns 2.As a spanish speaker it is a really easy book for me to read with fun pictures that my daughter enjoys. Even now she loves to put her fingers in the holes to count the fruit. For parents/caregivers who are not quite as experienced in reading spanish, it may be a little difficult to pronounce some of the words, but with some help you should be able to read the words effortlessly after a few times. My parents and in-laws don't speak much english and they love reading these spanish books to their granddaughter. It's a great way for them to bond.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spanish version of a classic!
This Spanish version of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" is just as cute as the English version.Children will love the pages of varying sizes with holes where the caterpillar has eaten up the food.
5-0 out of 5 stars So cool!
In case you aren't familiar with this book, it is about a caterpillar who eats and eats and eats. The board book version has holes in the pages so the reader can see what he has eaten. It is so cute! The illustrations are adorable and the kids love it!We are a bilingual family so my boys have the Spansih version. It's super and very durable! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "Daddy and Son"
Bought this for my husband to read to our daughter, but should have looked more carefully at the content because it's all about a little boy working with his dad on a project. Not really appropriate for father/daughter.Also, I do find that the flaps on these books are flimsy and hard to open.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book with flimsy paper flaps
All of Karen Katz's books are well written, cute stories with bright fabric inspired illustrations, however the flaps areVERY flimsy and can be torn off easily by little hands. The thin paper flaps are not durable at at all. Also, the flaps don't all open the same way so your little one must learn how to open each flap differently. Despite this, I still purchase more of her books since my 16 month son picks out Katz's books each day for storytime and enjoys them immensely.

2-0 out of 5 stars So Gender Biased and Stereotyped
I don't know if we are just a strange a-typical family, but this whole daddy and me book was based on things that only mommy can do in our house- daddy doesn't even have any tools. I love Karen Katz books, but this story simply made us cringe. If you are a father who has a son and like to do stuff with you tools in the garage, then this book is for you. ... Read more
