5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story
This book is simply a delight! I bought it for my granddaughter who is 9 months. She loves for me to read it to her. We just love it!!

2-0 out of 5 stars The story behind the story is more interesting
This book is simply not that great. The rubber ducky sound at the end is cute but nothing to applaud. The art is borderline awful and, while the story behind the story is cute, it just did not come out great as a children's book. I must confess, I am not an Eric Carle fan though, with the exception of The Very Busy Spider, which I enjoyed. To put it simply, don't bother. The two redeeming qualities of this book are 1) it teaches counting well (the first rubber duck, the second rubber duck) and it exposes the kids to animals you do not see every day (octupus, flamingo, pelican).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Emergent Readers
As an Early Childhood professional I am always looking for goods books rich in language, story and pictures. This book is one of Eric Carle's best books.I am a teacher/owner of Oceanside Pre-Kindergarten a unique Literacy based program to help children prepare for Kindergarten in today's intense learning environment in formal education.

1-0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTED!!
VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE BOOK.NOT ENOUGH DETAIL FOR KIDS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT PARTS OF THEIR BODY CAN NOT AND SHOULD NOT
5-0 out of 5 stars A Grandmother's Review
This book discusses a difficult subject in a kid-friendly manner. We want to arm our children with information, without making them distrustful of all people. The author and illustrator have presented a strong subject in a format that is informative, friendly, and reassuring.I highly recommend YOUR BODY BELONGS TO YOU.

4-0 out of 5 stars Your Body Belongs to You
I was looking for a book to help me explain to my children ages 3 and 5 that their body is theirs and they are the only ones who can touch their private parts. Also, that they have the right to refuse any kind of touch that makes them uncomfortable and this book illustrated this concept very well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best ABC Book for Boys!
My 4 year old son loves this book.It became a favorite book after reading one time.He wants to read it everyday! The author has created fun imaginative superheroes representing each of the letters.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good premise
The book is well done, though I could do without the gross-out factor for the "V" superhero. My son is more excited about the superheros and the illustrations than the letters, but it's a unque way of getting him interested in the sounds the letters make.

5-0 out of 5 stars a "Must Have"

5-0 out of 5 stars So good it gave me goose-bumps
My 11 year old son and I listened to Gossamer driving to and from school. But then we couldn't bear to leave the story behind, so spent the rest of the afternoon huddled around the tape deck. What an enchanting coming of age story. Yes, there is darkness and violence, but such feeling of hope. I cried through the last chapter. Wow. This is an incredible book. And beautifully read by Ms Twomey. I was especially drawn to the idea that so much can be experienced through touch. Seems to me it's the sense most writers underplay. And the writing is so simple, yet so powerful. I would give Gossamer more than 5 stars if I could.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another GREAT Story
Lois Lowry has a unique gift for storytelling and this gift serves her well in her latest story Gossamer. This is the story of Littlest One, a dream-giver, and a boy who needs her healing touch. After reading this book I feel as if I have been a part of this story. That I was actually there huddled under the bed when the terrible Sinisteeds came. And I was with Thin Elderly when he wept in the attic. The characters in this book become real as I become engrossed in the story which balances between reality and the imaginary.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gossamer
Lowry has crafted a tender story on the healing power of dreams and has given the reader a glimpse of the fantasy beings who bestow them.Littlest, inquisitive and enthusiastic, is training to become a dream giver.Littlest is mentored by Thin Elderly and together they work their magic on an abused foster child and his caretaker, a lonely old woman.Theygently touch objects belonging to the woman and the boy, gathering the memories they contain and bestowing them in dreams.Despite the best efforts of Littlest and Thin Elderly, both the boy and the his caretaker are beset by nightmares that are the work of the Sinisteeds, the counterparts of the dreamgivers.Littlest and Thin Elderly persevere, fighting the bad memories of abuse and love lost with tenderness and the knowledge that good memories carry the dreamers through rough patches.Readers will empathize with John as he flashbacks to episodes with his abusive father and battered mother and will cheer on Littlest, renamed Gossamer for her light touch, as she searches for the precise memory that will rescue John. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The reference book for mom's who believe in schedules
If lack of sleep during the first three years of your child's life is not an issue for you, then you may not find this book as valuable as I did. And, if you do not believe in getting your baby on a feeding and sleeping schedule, this is probably not the book for you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Have twins? Must have this book!
As the mom of a 26-month-old toddler and five-month-old twins we were DESPERATE for some sort of sanity in our life. At five months, they were still feeding through the night and sleeping horribly (MAYBE a 10-min doze here and there.) We were exhausted and trying oh-so-hard to get our babies on some sort of schedule. A friend recommended this book after saying it "worked like a charm" for her twins - and what would you know? It worked like a charm on ours! And I say this after having read EVERY sleep book on the market when sleep training my toddler. On the first day they took a 2+ hour nap and by the end of two weeks they were predictable! When you're exhausted, it's actually nice to have a plan, and when you are extremely exhausted, it's nice for someone to come up with the routines for you. Use it as guidelines, call it what you will. But it worked for us (thank goodness!) - and actually felt very natural and totally unforced. I have recommended this book to all my new-mom friends (especially moms of twins).

1-0 out of 5 stars More bad advice.Who writes this stuff?
I don't really know who Gina Ford is or what her qualifications really are, but her advice is pretty scary and I would avoid this book if I were you.I stopped reading after the first couple of chapters since it was clear that her advice was misguided. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A welcome and important addition
Uno decides to live in the forest surrounded by lush plants and unique animals. But first a village, then a town, and finally a city supplant his garden, make the animals disappear, and crowd out the plants with buildings. Uno and the city residents finally realize the damage people can do to a natural environment simply by living in it -- and how important it is to the environment that people live in harmony with the plants and animals around them. Imaginatively written and superbly illustrated by Graeme Base, "Uno's Garden" presents to young readers the critically important story of what damage we can do to the land we live on, the animals we live with, and how nature can repair that damage if we help it and allow it through community-based approaches to conservation and environmental restoration. "Uno's Garden" is a welcome and important addition to family, school, and community library picturebook collections and Environmental Studies reference shelves for young readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars GRAEME BASE FOR KIDS ONLY...BAH
Graeme Base never ceases to amaze me. He's so darned versatile. I don't have children, but I love his illustrations. "Uno's Garden" has a different look about it in a lot of places, but boy does the message pack a punch? This is a sweet and poignant story that deserves to be read by adults as well as children. You'll laugh at the Lumpybums (I laugh at my own lumpy bum) and be saddened by the loss of the snortlepig. Do not give up hope as Mr. Base assures us...somehow he will be back. A wonderful, wonderful story. Thank you once again Graeme!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
My 3 and hald year old loves this book! The ilustrations are wonderful. He adores all the weird-cool names for the different creatures. He loves looking for the Snortlepig. At this point some of the arthmetic is a bit above his head, but we use the book to reinforce his counting skills. As he grows older we can start getting into the progressions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby can't get enough
My 10 month old son loves these books so much.If he sees them he lights up and crawls over very quickly. He especially loves where is Baby's Mommy. He flips the flaps on the pages and giggles at times and he never gets sick of it.It can even bring him out of a bad mood, even if only when reading the books. He thinks he is a big boy because he flips pages and flaps and he thinks he makes things happen that way.Two big thumbs up.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gender and race
While I do like the story of these books, and my 1 year old daughter seems to enjoy the lifting the flaps task, the gender roles are pretty iron clad in these books (Mommy is dowdy and PTA-ish, Grandma bakes cookies and has low set wire rimmed glasses, Daddy is building a dog house). Also, very few nonwhite characters, excepting the belly button book. Also, my daughter was able to rip off the flaps of several pages.Just OK, I think.

4-0 out of 5 stars Baby's favorite books!
My 18 month old daughter loves these books! She loves naming the body parts and then showing us hers! She also loves looking for baby's mommy.I'll ask, "Is mommy in the closet?" and she will shout, "No, no, no!"It's so cute!I would give the books 5 stars, but sometimes they rip.As soon as we opened Toes, Ears, Nose she ripped one of the flaps. So, you need to supervise little ones with these books, but they are a big hit! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Miss Vocabulary
I would definately recommend this book to teachers and parents of children in at least 3rd grade. This narrative book has unique and wonderful way of introducing so many vocabulary words. You can find something new each time you read it. Also it addresses quite well dealing with embarrassment. Sage is a great tool to start a discussion about how we can deal with making mistakes in a graceful mannor. Brush up on your vocabulary today!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a classroom favorite!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!I was excited to share it with my fifth grade class, and they were mesmerized from the very first words...and I began with the Extra Credit Assignment!Anyone who could have watched the enjoyment on the faces of those students would have already ordered their copy of this book.I can tell it was a hit because every student has requested to read it again themselves.
3-0 out of 5 stars Too difficult for my age group

5-0 out of 5 stars EJK -
If you don't know the name Ezra Jack Keats, then you just might miss out on one of the ultimate treasures of the literary world. This simple story of young Peter is a delight to read any time of the year as the protaganist wakes up to a snow-filled scene that he explores and enjoys. He even tries to capture a bit to bring home! Read this with your young ones as they anticipate the coming season or read it by the fire as you dry your feet after a winter day.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, reviewed by Joshua, Mrs. Bhola's second grade
If you like snow you would like the book The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. It is about the adventures of Peter going out in the snow. I like when Peter put the snow on his head. I liked it because I like books on snow. Check it at your local library.

5-0 out of 5 stars After all these years it's still relevant - rare urban African American protagonist
Atfer all these years, the pictures, text, and message still endure. The art has not become dated, nor has the language.Proof that "less is more" means a classic story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mouse Paint
Cute book about some white mice who get into some paint. They paint themselves and mix the colors to create all colors of the rainbow.Great book for learning what color combinations create other colors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for learning color mixing
This is an excellent book for children learning their colors. It starts with three white mice that see three jars of paint, one red, one yellow and one blue. They start playing in the paint and their colors are changed. Not content with being red, yellow and blue, they enter paints of other colors and their color is changed to the mixture. Yellow feet in blue turn to green, red feet in yellow become orange and so forth. The illustrations are minimal, yet effective. I strongly recommend this for children learning how to mix colors to make new ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Painting mice, how nice
My daughters loved this book during ages 3-5.In a cute yet simple way, the mice delightfully display the primary colors and then show the creation of secondaries. Inevitably, after reading this book for the first time, your child will want to get out the watercolors and some paper.Whenever a book spawns activity, it is a sign that learning happened. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!
When first reading this book, you may laugh or just be speechless--but I, personally, was in love with this book when I was about 3 or 4!!I don't know why, but this book really interested me.The delivery on this book was quite fast--quicker than I expected--I recommend this service and book to anyone and everyone!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Poo or cookie? You decide...
My almost 28 month old enjoys this book, and neither he nor I are bothered by the concerns others have voiced in their reviews.Rather than be put off by the "I, Joshua's mother," language, I find it amusing in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way.I suspect this was the author's intent, and it was made part of the story to give the mom or dad reader something to relate to and find amusing as they read the book to the child for the eighty-fifth time, not to voice a serious complaint to the one read to.As others have said, you can simply change the language as you're reading to whatever you choose to call bowel movements, urine or various parts of the male anatomy. My son gets that the large white thing is a potty even though it looks nothing like his, and personally I think that it only helps children to be exposed to expressionist art from an early age rather than dumbing everything down to photographs or representational drawings. However, there's a risk in choosing an expressionist venue for a how-to book aimed at 2 year olds.My son tends to interpret things somewhat literally and to be stubborn once he gets an idea in his head, and I expect others his age do as well. And he has a firmly implanted idea in his head about this book's illustrations. He thinks the poo looks like a cookie.
5-0 out of 5 stars It is fun, funny and tells it straight in kid terms
I think people saying this book could be damaging are going way too far and have lost all perspective. There is nothing wrong with it- the illustrations are cute, it is really matter of fact about how a child's body works and how potty training happens. It is also accepting of the normal mistakes along the way, no problem!

Children will get a first, cheerful lesson about the natural world by becoming acquainted with an enchanting baby beluga. The illustrations are a joy, and the song's rhythm and rhyme make it easy to remember and sing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Raffi does it again!
This is a great multicultural book that you can sing/read that has a great soothing melody.Watch out, though, once you start singing this song, it'll be stuck in your head for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Beluga - great book and story for lessons in life
The book "Baby Beluga" is special to me because it is a story of my favorite sea creatures' daily adventures "in the deep blue sea". It inspired me to want to swim like Baby Beluga (a little white whale whose skin shines brightly in dark places and is gentle to people).

These block books are the perfect size for small hands to grasp and enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!Great stacking & learning toy!
I bought this for my son who was 20 months old at the time.I thought it would be a great learning tool for my daughter (5) to show & 'teach' my son words as well as help her learn to read.So far it has proven to be a great toy for both of them & something that they can do together. But I was surprised that the real appeal to these books are that they are stackable. My son will spend hours stacking them & knocking them down & restacking but also he loves to bring them to me & ask me what the pictures are.I originally purchased it, thinking it was a great deal but then thinking that it would end up being one of those 'all over the house' toys...as it turns out, my son is crazy about keeping all the books together in the box so that hasn't been a big problem.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for Toddlers!
My 22 month-old son received this as a gift, and I've since given a set to two other toddlers. What a great box of books! The books are simple and straighforward, perfect for his budding vocabulary. He loves to pick them each up in turn, show me the few pages and identify each picture, and then drop the book (ker-plunk!) into the box. But the fun doesn't stop there - the books are also great for sorting into piles by color, and for using like blocks to build towers. They're sturdy and tough, able to withstand chewing, standing-upon, and bending backwards in my son's hands. Get a set! Get one now! :D ... Read more

Young fans of the unflappable Sam-I-am will be pleased as punch todiscover the plethora of flaps to lift in this 10-page board book version of theDr. Seuss classic. Sam-I-am does his very best to convince a more finicky Seusscharacter to try this rather unusual delicacy.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Children's Book
The book of green eggs and ham teaches us all a valued lesson on never judgeing a book by it's cover. Even though the main character tries to convince himself of not trying green eggs and ham, when he finally does he actually really likes it. This being a perfect example of not being prejudice.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars Classic

3-0 out of 5 stars Recommended with Caution!
My daughter was also very upset by this book when it was read to her in Kindergarten. My mother was terminally ill at the time and this book (because of its ending) was very hard for her to take. She had nightmares about "the little old lady" for months after hearing this story. While it is a good example of early literary rhythm and ryhme, there are lots of other good ones too, including take offs on this book minus the depressing ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent visuals!
I couldn't resist buying this book for my 1 1/2 year old son, even though I new it would be ripped to shreds in the hands of a toddler. Well, it has become shreds, but not out of destruction. He carries this book everywhere and we find him flipping th pages on his own! He LOVES it and so does my husband and I because the visuals are so colorful and stimulating. You can see through the woman's stomach, you can see all of the animals, you can sing the book. It is definitely a family favorite! I'm buying a second copy to save for his elementary years.

5-0 out of 5 stars A well loved favourite
I adored this book as a child and my daughter does too. The only fault of this book is that it is quite large and heavy, yet my daughter manages to drag it around anyhow. ... Read more

This is a terrific book for young and older children. It is a fun way to demonstrate why we need a universal form of measurement.

5-0 out of 5 stars good introduction to measurement
I am a Kindergarten teacher, and I used this book with my class when we studied measurement. It was a great way to show the students why it is necessary to have standard units of measure. They really liked it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful book!
I am a kindergarten teacher.I read this book to my students to introduce to them how tocompare standard and nonstandard units of measurement as well as to highlight the need for uniform measuring tools. How Big is a Foot? clearly illustrates the difference between the length of a person's foot and a foot long ruler. After reading this book we made tracings of our own feet and cut out foot long foot shapes to make an outline of our own beds that were 4 ft x 6 ft.That was a graphic illustration of the concepts covered in this book - the children loved it! I highly recommend How Big is a Foot? to primary teachers! ... Read more

After reading this book, I caught a duck to use on the links. Despite naming it Ping, my distance and putting went down the toilet. I would not suggest using Ping for your average hacker.

I grew up reading this classic and read it to my students when I was a teacher (they loved it!). Now as a mother, I read it to my own son who gets such a kick out of this hilarious book. Love it, love it, love it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Grover rules
I had this book when I was growing up,I bought it for my son when he was young and now I have bought another for my daughter. We all enjoy this book. Grover is the funniest Sesame Street character. In the story Grover tries to use bricks, string, ect. to keep the kids from turning pages because of the monster at the end of the book. My kids loved turning the pages.
