5-0 out of 5 stars What is your child thankful for? Read & find out!
This is one of those special books that involve your children and actually makes them think about what are they thankful. For me Thanksgiving is a holiday where family and friends gather around a table full of wonderful food and this is where this book starts. I like that book includes different families and that it doesn't focus on the 1st Thanksgiving, but about things that each child is thankful for. Parents who love them no matter their actions, for books, cats, dogs, bright sunny days, friends and lollipops!

5-0 out of 5 stars the secret of life
So of course my senior quote was, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."Because I knew that in order to create my ideal life, I would have to follow the best advice Saint-Exupery offers us in this book. And I knew that he was sharing the secret of life with us.Following your heart, following the path that you know is right for your soul, is the way to achieve inner peace.Your heart always shows you the right way.Especially when you are lost.
5-0 out of 5 stars You're lovely, but you're empty. One couldn't die for you.
To be honest, I never read The Little Prince, or even really remembered it from my childhood. What brought it up, was playing the game Katamari Damacy. Apparently, part of the game was inspired by this tale, and that made me interested. Anything that inspired a very charming game couldn't be a loss, right? Unfortunately, the first time I picked up the book, I didn't get into it, and left it to collect dust for several months. But I gave it another shot recently, and read it during my breaks at work, and ended up getting quite a bit out of the book. Most importantly, how differently the world is when you're a child- I forgot how things seemed back then. The stars, animals, jobs people have, everything is completely different from how you see it as a child, than how you see it as an adult. Part of me is ashamed for letting that happen, so to put it. The dedication in this book even makes a jab at this fact, asking the children reading the book for forgiveness, dedicating it to an adult, his friend Leon Werth. He instead corrects it and dedicates the book "to Leon Werth when he was a little boy"- the person who became Leon. That alone should give you an understanding of how to take the rest of this book. While some children may not understand everything here (I actually recommend it to children age 7 and up, at youngest), the adults reading it to them certainly will, and that's just as important. I should mention though, before reviewing, that this review concerns the 60th Anniversary Edition. Amazon, for whatever reason, combines reviews for a product, even if they're clearly alternate versions. So I don't know about the minor translation changes that some people noticed, as I haven't read the book before this edition.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not a hat but an elephant inside a boa constrictor
My only regret about this book is I never learned enough in French class to read and enjoy the untranslated version.THE LITTLE PRINCE is such a charming fable and makes so many points about what is really important in life and how to live it that it will linger in the thoughtful reader's memory forever. The simple perfect artwork is as memorable as the text.Perhaps the tragic death of the author adds extra poignancy but THE LITTLE PRINCE would be a well loved classic if Antoine de Saint-Exupery had died of old age in his bed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful
This is one of those books you will remember reading to your kids long after they are gone. Introducing the concepts of holistic duality in a manner befitting children, this book gives kids an excellent sence of self-connection to the world around them. A must for your childs library.

Editorial Review

Seven beloved verses from Old Mother Goose are imbued with a little more"feeling" with this interactive version of the classic. Young children canstroke the white horse's silky mane in "Banbury Cross," feel the dog's smoothred satin suit in "The Cat and the Fiddle," and dig their tiny fingers into thesoft wool of the sheep in "Mary Had a Little Lamb." There's even ascratch-and-sniff spice cake in "Pat-a-Cake"! Tots will love this introductionto the nursery rhymes that will carry them through childhood and beyond.Old-fashioned, Edwardian-style illustrations will please readers of all ages, and the simple two-page-spread format, with poems on the left and pictures onthe right, is clean and attractive. The miniature board book is just the rightsize and sturdiness for small hands and new teeth. (Baby to preschool)Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic for a new generation
This is the book I remember from my childhood, sixty years ago. It was selected by my mother, a children's librarian.
1-0 out of 5 stars These are Some Messed Up Rhymes
I'm shocked to see that these books are still selling today.I had this exact book when I was little, and my mother brought the old copy to me cause she thought my daughter might like to have it.I don't think I'm going to bother giving it to her.I was frightened by this book when I was little.Mother Goose looks more like a wicked witch, stealing a baby, on the cover. There are tons of nursery rhymes, but most of them are very obscure, some only a couple lines long. And maybe I am reading too much into them, but a lot of them seem full of sexual innuendo and possible drug references. One titled "Robin and Richard" seems the most questionable, about two grown men staying in bed until 10 o'clock.I'm not prejudiced at all, but this seems like a very strange rhyme for children to be reading.Everything about this book is disturbing to me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Thumbs down
Most of the rhymes in here are so foreign to me. I never heard of most of them and don't even understand what they are about! I had a hard time keeping me interested. ... Read more

When I chose this book to read to the K-2's in my school, I was unfamiliar with the term "noodlehead story". What a wealth of different voices and characters for storytime Epossumondas is. The kids all went "AAAWWWWWWWW" when they saw the baby opossum with his pacifier. It's totally endearing.

This book is perfect for fans of Mary Engelbreit's artwork - which I am.The fairy tales are not altered from their original wording. The book features multiple fairy tales per page.I'm so happy to have these classic fairy tales enhanced with Mary's beautiful art.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter adores this book!
We purchased The Night Before Christmas for our 2 year-old daughter last December. She really loves the bright and beautiful illustrations and we are still reading this book almost every night, even though the Christmas season has since passed. That book was our introduction to Mary Engrelbreit. We decided recently to visit the bookstore, and ran across the Mother Goose book. As soon as we opened the book, our daughter decided right away that we should get it. So we did, and we have added this to our selection of books to read daily before bedtime.Since she can't read yet, she will ask for the verses that she wants us to read by looking at the illustrations.Needless to say, this is one of our favorite books, and we can't wait to introduce it to our younger daughter. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Seuss
Typically wonderful Seuss.A collection of favorites which still entertain and delight childern of all ages!Told in the whimsical, melodic, rhyming style that is Seuss' alone these stories present the challenges and triumph of basic human goodness that we want our children to learn.I highly recommend this collection.I read them to my grandson and notice that by the end of a story the whole house has tuned in and is anxiously awaiting that heart tickling sensation that comes at the conclusion of every Suess tale.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good buy, but Six by Seuss is better
Two of the books collected here are classics (Sleep Book and The Sneetches) and the other three are also pretty good, so this is well worth buying. The now out-of-print "Six by Seuss" however, is an even better value, since it includes five of his very best stories (Yertle, Mulberry Street, the Grinch, the Lorax, and Horton Hatches the Egg) under one cover.I would recommend looking for that book first, then getting this if your child turns out to be a hardcore Seuss fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the best of Dr. Seuss
Here's a rare book that gives you more than it promises. While it's titled "Five Favorite Dr. Seuss Stories," you actually get EIGHT stories. That's because there's three extra ones ("The Zax," "Too Many Daves," and "What Was I Scared Of?") included with "The Sneetches and Other Stories."

4-0 out of 5 stars Wiggle
This is such a cute book about wiggling, which most toddlers can relate with. It asks silly questions and shows a happy pudgy dog wiggling in lots of different places and ways. The story has a rhyme throughout and is great to read aloud. Your little one will enjoy listening and seeing the cute digitally created illustrations in this fun story.

5-0 out of 5 stars High energy story that is simply fun to read aloud!
A superbly simple rhyming story about wiggling through your day.I wanted to wiggle with the pictures on each page.I thoroughly enjoyed how Scott Menchin, the artist, used a real rubber ducky in a fake drawn bathtub and a cartoon dog with a real pancake on his head. The mismatched pictures were basic, colorful and fun to look at.The story itself is still in the style of the author's other books, Click, Clack, Moo, but doesn't make you feel as if you have read a different version of it already.Fresh ideas and crisp clean pages will have this book screaming to be read every day. Also recommended to use for teachers of kindergarten or first grade to start off the day with a good wiggle.Wiggling and movement before sitting down all day in class can provide some much needed stress relief...even for kids!

5-0 out of 5 stars A true original!
This is such a fun book. Fans of Doreen Cronin work get a special treat with Scott Menchin's illustrations. I absolutely love the pictures in this book! Menchin combines real pictures with illustrations and creative shadowing (not sure if that is a real word!)My 2-year-old has to take it to bed with her, she loves it so much. I recommend it to anyone with toddlers. In fact, it's my new birthday gift. ... Read more

This isn't just a written survey of key poems: over ninety poems are also presented on a cd of 52 performances by the poets and close friends, pairing written word with an imaginative spoken survey. Poems covered include Casey at the Bat, Robert Frost's Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, and more: narrators range from Carl Sandburg and James Berry to J.R.R. Tolkien. An exceptional presentation results.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not calming
My 15 month old girls really like this book.I like the table of contents tabs and the variety of short stories (and one song).I put it in their bedroom to read at bedtime. They are very active and our bedtime routine is to be quiet and calm to settle them down before sleep. This book is a little bit too lively for our bedtime.I'm going to move this book to our playroom to read during the day with many of our other Boynton favorites. We'll stick with our calm bedtime favorites:Goodnight Moon and I'm Thankful Each Day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for baby AND parents!
Our 8-month-old hears the delightful short stories in "Snoozers" each night as part of his bedtime routine. The book always holds his attention and interest. One of the stories calls for a second voice to help tell it.We've had lots of fun experimenting with this second voice. While one of us reads to our son, the other is tidying up or putting away laundry in his room or the neighboring room.As long as that person is within earshot as the story is being told, they chime in at all the right times. Some nights the voice is unexpectedly boisterous; other nights it's sweet and subtle. One never knows what to expect! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Expression of the Loving Relationship Between Parent & Child
I received this book as a gift and fell in love with it on the first read. At the time, my son was about 18 months old and this book provides a simple, yet poignant perspective of the daily interaction between parent and child. The book offers poetic symbolism to which parents everywhere can relate. "I am your way home you are my new path. I am your dry towel, you are my wet bath. I am your favorite book, you are my new lines. I am your night light you are my star shine." Not only do I love the book, but my son frequently requests it at bed time (and has even learned to say "I luv you"). It seems that he is just as touched by the story's soft images and lovely expression of our relationship as I am. You won't be dissappointed by the book!

Winnie the Pooh and friends will bring lots of laughter and love to any child and will bring back lots of memories of your own childhood. These books are of the original text that Miline wrote for his own son, Christopher Robin.
5-0 out of 5 stars Every Child Should Read At Least One
Every child should read at least one A.A.Milne book. They are excellent read-alouds because they are entertaining for the adult who is reading them as well as the children.
5-0 out of 5 stars I can still recite some of these poems, 40-some years later
Pooh may be the headliner, but some of the stories I remember best are those of James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree (who took great care of his mother, though he was only three), Emmeline (who went to see the Queen), and King John (whose list for Father Christmas contained just one item, a big red India-rubber ball). Everything is written from a perspective that a child would understand, without judgment, without condescension... This is a wonderful collection. I can still see Pooh trying to get his head out of the Hunny jar, Owl going on at length about the Spotted or Herbaceous Backson, Eeyore mourning his popped balloon.Whether your kids read these books themselves, or you read to them, these books are a treasure they'll want to pass down to their kids. ... Editorial Review

Molly Lou Melon may be tiny, clumsy, buck-toothed, and with a voice"like a bullfrog being squeezed by a boa constrictor," but she doesn't mind. Hergrandmother has utmost confidence in her, and tells her at every turn to believein herself. "Sing out clear and strong and the world will cry tears of joy,"Grandma says. But Molly Lou's self-assurance is put to the test when she movesto a new town, away from her friends and beloved grandmother. During her firstweek of school, Ronald Durkin taunts Molly Lou Melon in the dull-witted butsharp-edged manner of career bullies, calling her "shrimpo" and "bucky-toothedbeaver." Our heroine barely flinches as she systematically sets out to proveherself, and Ronald Durkin ends up feeling pretty foolish.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WELL DONE QUIRKY LITTLE BOOK - I LIKED IT
I like this one.It is just enough over the edge, illustration wise, to make it quite interesting.More importantly than my likeing it, is that all the kids seem to love this one.For some reason it appeals to them. The story is certainly good and teaches a wonderful lesson on a subject that bothers most kids, self-image.The author has hit this subject head on and has done a very good job of it in quite understandable style.I like the art work in this one, and feels it makes the point of the story stick.Recommend this one highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Illustrations are beautiful art!!
I have to say I favor a book for its illustrations over its story, as long as the story is still good!I was so impressed with David Catrow's gorgeous illustrations that I searched through all of the books he illustrated intent on buying more."King Bidgood..." is an example of my taste if that helps.

I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Tale of Three Trees: A Traditional Folktale
I am a Catholic School teacher and have read this to my class at different times of the year.I find it a fantastic tale and the children are always amazed by the end of the story.I have purchased it for our Pastor when he was transfered to another parish and he said it brought tears to his eyes. It's a great tale of how you don't have to be embedded with jewles, pointing to the sky or a grand ship taking fanastic voyages to be a good person. God loves us just the way we are weather it be in a mink coat or rags.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lot's of fun
I bought this book for my kids ages six and seven. They both love it.This book is a nice mix of hard to find and easier to find items. These I spy books also made nice birthday gifts for some other children we know.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite of the I Spy Series!
My family has enjoyed I Spy Picture Riddles for many years. I Spy Treasure Hunt is my personal favorite. The reader is invited to search for hidden items on pages that represent an imaginary seaside town. The first puzzle page features the train station, while the next two page spread is the "View from Duck Pond Inn". Eventually, the Pirate's treasure is revealed! I enjoy the less flashy and cluttered look of this particular book, though my kids seem to highly enjoy all the I Spy books. I recommend them for all ages!

5-0 out of 5 stars What Do You Review With A Book Like This
This book is breathtaking, a real stand-out visually -- and at the same time grippingly educational and fun for kids. If you want to see that dawning light of curiousity and hunger for understanding in a child that's just learning that it's fun to learn, there's no better book than this one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful as a read for science class!
I have read this selection to several classrooms. The students not only love to see the pictures, but they LOVE to guess as to the purpose of the tails and it is a great lead in for adaptation.Additionally, (as all elementary students love to do), they love to share their knowledge of the animals and share what they think. After a group read, this book has become popular with students who sometimes shy away from science but just become fasicnated with the facts and cool animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Won over
I had thought about buying this, but always decided not to. My son (5 years old) checked this out of the library on his own. He loves it. The cut-paper artwork is beautiful. Despite the fact-based discussion, it can be a very fun book to read. On the section about whales being able to hear sounds hundreds of miles away, my son always breaks into a whale song of his own. He also stunned his daycare teachers when they went on-line to check out his assertion that crickets had ears in their knees. So there you have it: fun, educational, beautiful! ... Read more
