5-0 out of 5 stars Every kid should read this book
This book is a timeless classic.Every parent should read it to their small children. It is a great way to end the day with a sweet good night.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic
I must admit that the only reason I bought this book was because people said it is a classic and any web site about children's books named this one. I did not relate to it, because when I was growing up in India, this wasnt popular. When the book arrived and I actually looked at it, I did not understand what the hype was all about and did not really read it to my son until a couple of weeks ago. (I bought the book about a year ago when he was just 4 months :) )
5-0 out of 5 stars Child's Favorite Book
When I first bought this book I wondered what why it was always listed as a favorite. I didn't know the story but thought the color choices were a bit strong. Well my child LOVES this book. We read it almost everyday! I would highly recommend this book as well as "The Big Red Barn". ... Read more

This story is adorable.I can finally read it to my daughter without crying. The only thing I didn't realize when I placed my order was that this was such a small book.I would have ordered a larger book had I known.

Editorial Review

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'lllove you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels. 4-0 out of 5 stars love you forever
I found i love you forever to be a very true tale of a mothers love. Throughout the story the boy goes throught lifes many changes and phases, continuely disobeying his mothers wishes only to find himself in his mother arms everynight, as she recites the same poem expressing her unconditional love. At storys end the tables turn and a heartwarming turn of events is expressed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sweet message, but not our favorite
This book really does have a nice message about unconditional love that a parent has for a child. For that I give it major kudos. On the other hand it is a bit sappy and maudlin for my taste.I agree that the mom showing up at the son's house is a bit strange, but it is a children's book. It's not supposed to be entirely realistic.I think (hope) that part is supposed to be more symbolic.I think the illustrations in this book are so-so and pretty uninspiring. However, it really is a sweet story and there's no harm in having this in your collection of kids books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tear for tear, it is a beauty
This book is the most amazing children's book in existence. It is the epitome of what every parent in the world feels for their child(ren). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I read this book to my daughter and son and they loved it.It is my daughter's favorite book. This author is very created in taking you into a different world.Very science fiction.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic that transcends time
This was one of my favorite books when I was growing up. Now that I am a mother, I am thrilled to be able to share this very same story with my own daughter and watch her eyes light up with excitement every time we read it together. My daughter absolutely loves all the colorful, interesting illustrations throughout the book that accompany the equally colorful story. The little imp Max appeals to her "devilish" side, and she laughs with glee as max dons his wolf suit and chases after the dog or as he swings from the vines and marches under the moonlight with the "wild things". This is a book that she really enjoys taking an active part in. How cute it is when she pretends to be one of the wild things...roaring her own little roar and showing her "terrible claws" right along with the story. It is such a wonderful message, too. Max takes an imaginary trip to "Where the Wild Things Are" after being sent to bed without his supper, but even though he becomes King of All Wild Things, he learns that there's nothing more comforting in life than being where he is loved no matter what. And when he "returns" to his room and finds his supper waiting for him, he knows he is truly loved. Such a beautiful story related in a way that both children and adults can relate to.

5-0 out of 5 stars All-time favorite
If my family were to be stranded on a desert island with only 1 picture book, I'd choose this one. It was my favorite when I was a kid, and is now my daughters' favorites. Why? Well, the illustrations, to begin with. Wonderfully detailed and funny, my kids spend several minutes looking over each. My favorite part is the sequence of Max's room turning into a forest.

5-0 out of 5 stars becoming a movie!!!
i really adored this book and the 3rd book is taking much to long to come out! I have heard that Mel Gibson recently picked up these books as a screen play. He is making a movie out of this! I for one, cannot wait to here more about it, but since the third isnt out yet, ill have to wait even longer.

5-0 out of 5 stars one in a million
one of the best follow up books ever written.Lies, secrets, and friendship what else could you have in a story like this. The story will keep you dancing on your toes all the way through the book. If you have read the first book A Great and Terrible Beauty you will know that this book will be as good as the first.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Sequel
Sequels are tricky and they're famous for not living up to an original- either the writer will try to rehash what was successful in the original, in which case the result is too often boring a second time around; or she'll attempt to take thestory into a different place and risks not being true to the initial characters and situations. Libba Bray does both- she brings her story forward while remaining true to what made the first novel good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best One Yet!!!
My 4 year old niece loves Don't let the pigeon drive the bus.She recently got Don't let the pigeon stay up late and it is her new favorite. She loves yawning with the pigeon throughout the book. This is a great bedtime book.Very funny!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Author needs to learn to be a lot more personable and care about the children he writes the books for
I purchased this book for my daughter because her school was going to listen to him read at the local book store. My daughter had wanted to get her picture taken with him but couldn't because her class had to leave so she asked if I would please get him to sign her book saying that she had met him so she could always remember this day.I told her that I would be happy to.I went up to have him sign it for her and asked if he could please put something saying that it was nice meeting her so that she would always have that memory. He refused said that he writes his own which is always the persons name rocks-not real personal. He said I could write that on the other page saying that she meet him.Needless to say, I returned the book.Any one who can not be nice and take just 1 minute to make a little girl happy by simply giving her a memory is not worth buying!!!I would highly suggest buying a different book by a different author. There are tuns of great children books out their by authors who truly care about making children happy and making a difference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not one of Mo's best, but still a must-have
Mo Willems is very popular in our home. Our six year old adores the pigeon books. We have read them all, and own most of them."Don't let the Pigoen Stay Up Late" is the weakest book in the series, but is still adorable and we had to buy it."The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog" is still the favorite in our household, however. The pigeon books are excellent to read to toddlers and excellent for early readers to read out loud for themselves. ... "How does a dinosaur say good night when Papa comes in to turn off the light? Does a dinosaur slam his tail and pout? Does he throw his teddy bear all about? Does a dinosaur stomp his feet on the floor and shout: 'I want to hear one book more!'? DOES A DINOSAUR ROAR?" Most certainly not. Dinosaurs give their mommies and daddies big hugs and kisses, tuck their tales in, and whisper "Good night!"Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite in our house!
My son got this book and the matching stuffed dinosaur when he was 2. I think that was the start of his dinosaur obsession! :) We love this book and a year later we still read it all the time. He has the whole book memorized and can "read" it to us. We have started to acquire some of the other "How Do Dinosaur" books but this will probably always be the favorite. It's a great book!! We love the pictures and the story!!

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love It!
How could this book not recieve 5 stars? My first encounter I had with this book was at a daycare I worked at for the 2 year olds and they always requested it and loved it. Of course after reading it so many times it became memorized and they would help by shouting out words here and there. I loved it so much I made it a point to get it for my daughter and she has the same reaction. We read it every night and she knows the story, acting it out and recalling parts here and there. I got the paper back because it was cheaper but we'll be getting the hard back soon due to so much use. Definitely a title that should be included in your library.

5-0 out of 5 stars We read this book every night
My 3 year old son absolutely loves this book. We have to read it every night at bed time, he has it memorized for the most part so he "reads" along with me while I am reading it to him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Boynton Book
We've checked out a number of Boynton books from our library, and Pajama Time is the first one my daughter has really loved. She just turned two, and she is always asking for "Jammie Time" to be read to her, especially when we are getting her ready for bed.I like how the book can be sung, which always brings a smile to my daughter's face. The pictures and words are silly and seem to be very appealing to toddlers.

5-0 out of 5 stars A family favorite for years
We love this book so much that we buy it for all our friends and family that have babies. It is the perfect rocking chair companion. We love the sing-song rhyming of the story, and we read it so much to our children (5 & 6) that we still remember all the words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodnight Moon in Spanish
As an NY born of Dominican decent, I love reading this book to my little one.My 20 month old daughter loves this book. We have both the English and Spanish versions of the book.Often times she brings her Dad or me both books to read to her.We start with one gets tired of it mid-way and then she wants us to pick up where we left off in the other language. It doesn't really matter to her which language we start/end with.We change it up all the time.I agree with some other reviewers that the translation is not exact, but the flow is very good with the changes that were made.I especially like "la viejecita que teje muy calladita" instead of "a quiet old lady who was whispering 'hush'," especially since I knit and my daughter can relate to that.Because of this book she has begun to comfortably alternate luna/moon and star/estrella.I think it's really important for my little girl to learn both Spanish and, obviously, English and this book makes it that much easier to accomplish.

This beloved and bestselling book from Audrey and Don Wood has been delighting children--and sending them off to bed with laughter and sweet dreams-for years. The infectious cumulative rhyme of The Napping House has made this book a classic. Now here is the new sturdy edition just right for tiny hands, making them a must for every family's board book collection.

This story adds a new spin on an old journey! A caterpillar too stressed out to see clearly and too ridden with anxiety to accomplish the task ahead of him is shown how to relax by himself! In addition to this being my child's absolute favorite bedtime story,it is the favorite of her first grade class. I read to the class once a month and even though I bring other books, they always ask me to read this one. The class is intrigued by the caterpillar and the bright water color illustrations. They love to relax with the adorable caterpillar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
My younger daughter always repeats - 'I want my mommy'! I enjoyed the book along with my kids. The photography is excellent too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet yet real
Received this book as a baby gift and loved reading it to my son.Now that he has started preschool we read it as a book about separation anxiety.I was a bit concerned that the owl's imagining something bad might have happened to their mom would scare my son. However, I think that many kids worry about just that and it is important to acknowledge this and also reassure them that Mama or Daddy will come back.Get the board book version for endurance as this book will be read over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars I want my mommy!
My two year old LOVES this book. When I ask her "What does Bill say?" She eagerly exclaims "I want my mommy, said Bill!" I feel that this tale can teach our little ones that although your parents may leave, they will return. Great Book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another essential and timeless classic!
I have to admit that I never really "got" all the hype about "Where the Wild Things Are".Sure the drawings were great, but the story never really drew me in.Now that I've seen and read "In the Night Kitchen" I am the biggest Sendak fan!The beauty of this particular story is that you can start reading it to your child at any age.The rhythm and cadence make it a perfect read aloud bedtime store. The drawings are amazing -- reminiscent of "Little Nemo In Slumberland".
5-0 out of 5 stars Strange, but my son's favorite
When we first got this book, I was skeptical. The story is a bit surreal. But my child LOVES it! He loves the chants, and I think he likes it being a dreamscape, it gives him something new to think about. He insists on it every night! Sendak has touched the pulse of children again, though to adults it may just look strange.

5-0 out of 5 stars On Heavy Rotation
I just bought this book for my [...] son and we love it. I am actually jealous that I did not get to experience this book as a child with an unlimited imagination. However, it did not take me long to suspend my adult mind and fall 'into the night kitchen'. This is a fantastical adventure via a dream had by "mickey" the main character of the story. Mickey must help these bakers make the morning cakes! He does so in a series of what may seem like bizarre events. First he falls from his bed into the (beautifully illustrated)night kitchen, into the vat of batter being turned by the bakers and into ( OH NO!) the mickey oven! It took me about two reads to find a lyrical flow that was comfortable for me, as I found it a little choppy at first, however it never seemed to bother my little guy. Prior to getting this book for our son , I had no idea that it was stirring up a little controversy. It would be a shame for someone to pass on this book because reviews deemed it odd or non sensical or (dare I say) immoral, b/c we all know by now Mickey is nude. The best treasure we could give to any child is a collection of books, this book is definitely a gem in that treasure. It is currently on heavy rotation along with Where the Wild things are, Strega nona, and I stink ! ... Read more

This book was great, silly fun!My 5-year old granddaughter loved it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun For All
I bought this book because like all parents I find myself reading more books at bedtime than all the books on the NY bestseller list combined. It also makes light of books I have read a million times, and my girls recognize the plot or characters. But then they interrupt me to tell me I skipped a page or ask what happened to so-and-so.I think my husband and I enjoy the book more than my daughters. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Helping Little Ones (and Their Parents) Grow Sleepy
I used this book a lot when my own kids were small. It would usually have me yawning within the first couple of pages. It is highly suggestive and has a hypnotic effect on both the reader and the listener.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get This Seuss!
If you only get one Dr. Seuss book to read to your child, get this one! Not only has it been helping get children to sleep for generations, it is does not have the tongue-twisting rhymes that make some of his books a challenge to read aloud. Instead, The Sleep Book puts both parent and child into the mood to sleep, peacefully dreaming of Dr. Suess creatures who are also going to sleep, so how about you?

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Dr. Seuss Book Ever!! By Laura G.
Some people say that this book was too long, while others said that The Cat in the Hat is better.I love this book.It was my mother's favorite as a child and she shared it with me and I'm so glad she did.I love all the characters. You can't read this book and not want to fall asleep...all the yawning in this book makes it a perfect bedtime story. An all time Seuss classic that shouldn't be overlooked!!!!!A must have for any Seuss collector!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars So good it gave me goose-bumps
My 11 year old son and I listened to Gossamer driving to and from school. But then we couldn't bear to leave the story behind, so spent the rest of the afternoon huddled around the tape deck. What an enchanting coming of age story. Yes, there is darkness and violence, but such feeling of hope. I cried through the last chapter. Wow. This is an incredible book. And beautifully read by Ms Twomey. I was especially drawn to the idea that so much can be experienced through touch. Seems to me it's the sense most writers underplay. And the writing is so simple, yet so powerful. I would give Gossamer more than 5 stars if I could.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another GREAT Story
Lois Lowry has a unique gift for storytelling and this gift serves her well in her latest story Gossamer. This is the story of Littlest One, a dream-giver, and a boy who needs her healing touch. After reading this book I feel as if I have been a part of this story. That I was actually there huddled under the bed when the terrible Sinisteeds came. And I was with Thin Elderly when he wept in the attic. The characters in this book become real as I become engrossed in the story which balances between reality and the imaginary.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gossamer
Lowry has crafted a tender story on the healing power of dreams and has given the reader a glimpse of the fantasy beings who bestow them.Littlest, inquisitive and enthusiastic, is training to become a dream giver.Littlest is mentored by Thin Elderly and together they work their magic on an abused foster child and his caretaker, a lonely old woman.Theygently touch objects belonging to the woman and the boy, gathering the memories they contain and bestowing them in dreams.Despite the best efforts of Littlest and Thin Elderly, both the boy and the his caretaker are beset by nightmares that are the work of the Sinisteeds, the counterparts of the dreamgivers.Littlest and Thin Elderly persevere, fighting the bad memories of abuse and love lost with tenderness and the knowledge that good memories carry the dreamers through rough patches.Readers will empathize with John as he flashbacks to episodes with his abusive father and battered mother and will cheer on Littlest, renamed Gossamer for her light touch, as she searches for the precise memory that will rescue John. ... Although labeled for the three and up age range, my experience suggests this book will appeal more to parents and caregivers than to toddlers.

i have found the quality of any boynton product to be good and the books are great for little ones.we have quite a few books and have started with the plush toys.. all are a big hit for the child and adults.. thank youkaren colucci

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not calming
My 15 month old girls really like this book.I like the table of contents tabs and the variety of short stories (and one song).I put it in their bedroom to read at bedtime. They are very active and our bedtime routine is to be quiet and calm to settle them down before sleep. This book is a little bit too lively for our bedtime.I'm going to move this book to our playroom to read during the day with many of our other Boynton favorites. We'll stick with our calm bedtime favorites:Goodnight Moon and I'm Thankful Each Day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for baby AND parents!
Our 8-month-old hears the delightful short stories in "Snoozers" each night as part of his bedtime routine. The book always holds his attention and interest. One of the stories calls for a second voice to help tell it.We've had lots of fun experimenting with this second voice. While one of us reads to our son, the other is tidying up or putting away laundry in his room or the neighboring room.As long as that person is within earshot as the story is being told, they chime in at all the right times. Some nights the voice is unexpectedly boisterous; other nights it's sweet and subtle. One never knows what to expect! ...
