5-0 out of 5 stars Every kid should read this book
This book is a timeless classic.Every parent should read it to their small children. It is a great way to end the day with a sweet good night.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic
I must admit that the only reason I bought this book was because people said it is a classic and any web site about children's books named this one. I did not relate to it, because when I was growing up in India, this wasnt popular. When the book arrived and I actually looked at it, I did not understand what the hype was all about and did not really read it to my son until a couple of weeks ago. (I bought the book about a year ago when he was just 4 months :) )
5-0 out of 5 stars Child's Favorite Book
When I first bought this book I wondered what why it was always listed as a favorite. I didn't know the story but thought the color choices were a bit strong. Well my child LOVES this book. We read it almost everyday! I would highly recommend this book as well as "The Big Red Barn". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Warm and wonderful
This book brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it.It is warm and comforting.A wonderful message for children that their mama will always be there no matter what...

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but okay
I feel like I am supposed to love this book since it is by the same author of the beloved "Goodnight Moon", but I don't and neither does my child. The illustrations are a bit bland and the story is unremarkable. It also lacks the rhythm of "Goodnight Moon".As a result it just doesn't seem to keep my child's attention. On one hand the message of a mom's unconditional love is rather sweet, but the way she goes about it is borderline creepy.By following her unwilling child all over the world she has the potential of appearing more obsessive and domineering than pleasant and caring. In the end, however, the book is harmless and many people seem to think it's a very charming book.I would just recommend giving it a quick read in the book store before you purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Love And Devotion
I love the runaway bunny and my kids love the runaway bunny. It makes us laugh, brings us closer together, and helps reinforce the most important lesson my children can learn "A Mother's Love has no limits." We laughed at the young bunny's frustration, marveled at the mother bunny's persistence, and discussed the love and commitment that strengthens our own family. The Runaway Bunny has been a useful tool in reinforcing my dedication to my children. As young children enjoyed the pictures. It's small and simple, but the lesson is profound. ... Read more

Hat and boot in hand, a boy and a bear set off on a delicious and raucous romp through Berryland. They frolic in strawberry fields forever, rumble and ramble in blackberry brambles, and topple their canoeberry with blueberries. Silly rhymes and a musical beat practically beg to be read aloud, preferably accompanied by dancing. New readers will giggle as they follow the fruit-frenzied pals on their berry adventures. 5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest kids book in our house
This book was a gift and has quickly become a favorite, my favorite. It has beautiful illistrations, some rhyming and lots of imagery. I have given this book as a gift to everyone having a baby!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
This is one of my daughters favorites (and I like it too!)It is a fun book to read and the pictures are really cute. Our copy goes almost everywhere with us-a second copy is in the future!

5-0 out of 5 stars My son and my favorite book
I bought this book when my son was 11 months old.The cadence of the whole book is wonderful.I've read it slow and I've read it so fast I can't keep up with myself turning the pages. It was quickly a favorite of mine, and when my son was old enough he would get this book from his 'library' and hand it to me.Even now (he's 8) we love this book.He reads it to me.And I love to ask "faster, faster" like he would do when I was reading to him. This spring we planted a strawberry pyramid and 3 blueberry bushes. It was funny that I didn't think of this book when my son said he wanted to plant these. But it makes perfect sense now. This will be a book that is handed down to his children and bought for his nieces and nephews I'm sure. The board book format is so excellent, the book is still in fabulous shape. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good and bad
As the owner of a dog which is part Rottie, I was happy to see a story about a good Rottweiler. And Carl is a charming and sweet dog.The drawings in this line of books are beautiful and details, and have a certain Norman Rockwell quality to them. As has been stated this is a book with pictures only which lets your little one (or you) make up the words, which can be lots of fun.BUT, I too am troubled by a story where the mom leaves the baby alone with the dog for what seems like a looong time, with the instructions for the dog to watch the baby while she is out. And, in the process the baby gets but into all kinds of dangerous situations (dropped down the laundry chute, bathed in the fish tank, etc).I just don't know if little kids will be able to understand that those things don't happen "in real life".

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Dog Carl is Great
Alexandra Day is a gifted artist and clever and funny story teller. I laughed out loud at the escapades of Baby and Carl the dog. We're read all of her books and I highly recommend them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Infants
I believe the contrast of the black and white holds the infants gaze.I think it is agreat book and my toddler loves it still.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book to give as a baby present
This is one of the few books that I ALWAYS send as a baby present. It's fantastic---the black and white illustrations are great for a newborn and many of my friends have continued to "read" the book with their child even when he or she became a toddler.5-0 out of 5 stars Psychologist mom's ONLY shower gift
Before my first-born could speak or even SIT, all the adults around him could tell which page he liked most--true communication from an infant that didn't involve crying (or other intense and directed body language)! We were amazed that we all had noticed. The books got LOTS of attention from our wee one. Face it, there is just not a lot you CAN "read" to an infant those first six months of life. He loved them. I'm here buying my fifth or sixth set of these two books for yet another mom-to-be. They are so much more memorable than green and yellow clothing, for both parents and babes. ... Read more

Editorial Review

A Ukrainian boy named Nicki wants his grandmother Baba to knit snow-white mittens for him. She warns her grandson that a white mitten will be hard to find if he loses it in the snow, but of course he promptly does just that! What happens next is the surprising part, as a mole takes refuge in the lost mitten, then a rabbit, then a hedgehog, an owl, a badger, and a fox.If you think the mitten might be a wee bit stretched out at this point, just wait: "Then a big bear sniffed at the mitten. The animals were packed in tight, but the bear didn't care. He crawled in anyway." When a tiny mouse squeezes in, her whiskers tickle the bear's nose. He sneezes, and "Aaaaa-aaaaa-ca-chew!" all the animals fly out of their crocheted cave. As the mitten sails through the air, Nicki spots it, reclaims it, and takes it home to show his smiling Baba.Read more

Emily Elizabeth has a big red dog--the biggest, reddest dog on her street, and his name is Clifford. How big is he? He's so big that when he runs after cars, he catches them in his mouth, and his doghouse is bigger than Emily Elizabeth's house. Needless to say, he makes an excellent watchdog. Children love the idea of the things you could do and the fun you could have with a giant dog, and Norman Bridwell's delightful, Clifford-proof board-book edition will not disappoint. Read more

I ordered this book for my 21 month old because she loves to watch Clifford the Big Red Dog on TV and she loves books. She really doesnt pick this book as much as I thought she would.I think because its not really illustrated too good and the people are different than on the TV show.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what you're expecting
Well, let me start by saying that the little Board Book is adorable, and the illustrations are artsy and well-done.The problem I had with this book is that it's title: Humpty Dumpty and Other Nursery Rhymes, gave me the impression that I would be receiving a book that contained the character of Humpty Dumpty. The nursery rhyme is included, but the illustration is of a small rodent, and in the background, if you look for a bit, there is an inanimate egg on a shelf in one of those little egg cups like you might get at a bed and breakfast. It has no face, no clothes, no personality, no king's horses, no kings men, and no wall for crying out loud.Im living abroad, where English books are hard to find, and therefore must shop online. So, I had purchased the book as a gift for a neighbor, who has a Humpty Dumpty stuffed animal and wanted to find a copy of the book to share the story with her granddaughter.Unfortunately, what arrived has no reference to the character of Humpty Dumpty, and so doesn't really serve any purpose. Were it any of the "other" nursery rhymes so liberally interpreted, I wouldn't complain, but the title should be what was promised.Amazon offers a Look Inside, but it doesn't show the title rhyme, either, so there was no way to tell that this Humnpty Dumpty book had no humpty dumpty character. If you dont care about what characters or images come in your book, buy this one, it's awfully cute, as I said. But, if you are looking for the title character, he is nowhere to be found within.

4-0 out of 5 stars Board book fan
I knew my first son would love books when he gnawed his way through his first two board books. Now my second son is well on his way, both paging through and chewing on the sturdy board pages of this charming and colorful edition of Humpty Dumpty.Captivating rhythms and bright attention-getting illustrations are sure to delight any fan (child or adult) of Well's animal characters. Previous reviewers expressed concern about rhymes like "Davy Davy Dumpling" but before censoring this book, I'd ask them to think back to when your child was a plump and cuddly infant. How many times did you tickle him and say "I'm going to eat you up!" Did you really mean it? When you change a diaper are you "sugaring and buttering" your baby with powders and creams? I eat my baby up several times a day and it makes him laugh hysterically!

5-0 out of 5 stars Based on reaction of my 18 month old daughter.
I am surprised to read the reviews. I do not care about rhymes and illustrations. What I careis if my kid loves it. She always asks me readto this books at least once in a day. She is so happy when I am readingthis book for her. The thick pages are really important for small kids asthey can not tear them off. ... Read more
