5-0 out of 5 stars Every kid should read this book
This book is a timeless classic.Every parent should read it to their small children. It is a great way to end the day with a sweet good night.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic
I must admit that the only reason I bought this book was because people said it is a classic and any web site about children's books named this one. I did not relate to it, because when I was growing up in India, this wasnt popular. When the book arrived and I actually looked at it, I did not understand what the hype was all about and did not really read it to my son until a couple of weeks ago. (I bought the book about a year ago when he was just 4 months :) )
5-0 out of 5 stars Child's Favorite Book
When I first bought this book I wondered what why it was always listed as a favorite. I didn't know the story but thought the color choices were a bit strong. Well my child LOVES this book. We read it almost everyday! I would highly recommend this book as well as "The Big Red Barn". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A VERY WELL DONE BOOK - QUITE INFORMATIVE
I normally do not care all that much for "pop-up" type books, as they tend to sort of come apart at the seams with constant use. This one is differnt though. It is well made and is able to stand a lot of use and abuse. The story is great, tellin the life cycle of a butterfly. The illustrations are quite colorful and very easy to follow and understand. The text goes perfectly with the pictures and it is amazing how how the little one cannot keep thier fingers out of the many holes the caterpillar chews through on his way to becoming a butterfly. This explains the life cycle of the butterfly.I found, with my grandchildren, that after reading the book (time and time again) that when we captured a live caterpillar, gave it plenty to eat, and let it go through the entire process as shown in the book, they, the grandchildern were absolutely fascinated.Recommend this one highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book!!!
This book is one of my childrens' favorites. From the time they were both too little to know their days of the week they still chimed in when the caterpillar ate and ate and was "Still Hungry" until they could say the days of the week with no problem, this book will forever be a staple among my families' collections. The illustrations are Eric Carle's usual terrific array of colors and creatures. This book is also great for nursery school teachers to read and explain to their children the beautiful transformation from caterpillar to butterfly by using live caterpillars as an educational tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, colorful book
I love this book because you can start reading it from when your child is a newborn up through the preschool years.Babies will appreciate the pictures, colors and cadence.Preschoolers will love the story and pictures. The board book version is perfect for small hands. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The gentle rhyming and gorgeous, tissue-paper collage illustrations in this classic picture book make it a dog-eared favorite on many children's bookshelves. On each page, we meet a new animal who nudges us onward to discover which creature will show up next: "Blue Horse, Blue Horse, What do you see? I see a green frog looking at me." This pattern is repeated over and over, until the pre-reader can chime in with the reader, easily predicting the next rhyme. One thing readers might not predict, however, is just what kinds of funny characters will make an appearance at the denouement! Children on the verge of reading learn best with plenty of identifiable images and rhythmic repetition. Eric Carle's good-humored style and colorful, bold illustrations (like those in Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter LOVES this book
I actually surprisingly just bought this book earlier today and my almost 17 month old daughter already loves it.She loves the rhythm of the words and the large colorful animals. She like the fact that she is familiar with all the animals and can tell me what noise they make. I purchased the board book because she like to turn the pages on her own and I didn't want the book to be messed up.All in all. . . NO REGRETS

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to bond with your child
This is the first book that my daughter and I read every night. She points out the different animals when I read.It is a great book that teaches colors and animals.I recommend this book to every parent as first reading material with your child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can you say Caldecott?
This book doesn't need my review -- it's brilliant and it's time this duo won a Caldecott for their conribution to children's books. It doesn't get much better than this.
5-0 out of 5 stars Curtis hits a homerun
I had the opportunity to read this delightful little book while waiting for my wife and step son.It is nice in its simplicity. The book is written for children, very young children, struggling with things that only young children think of.Because of that it was worth reading. If you are expecting it to be more than helpful for children that might be a stretch but it is defiinitely something to read to a child and then discuss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Spectacular!
This book is all about those crazy questions that only a child can come up with...but that are plaintive and need a response...in this book we see the wild imaginings of a child and all of his fears and dreams of what it means to be in the human race! What can I say but WOW...there is a lot going on in this book and the question is silly, yet serious...just the kind of question a kid would ask and the message itself (as written by Curtis) is priceless! I'm constantly trying to encourage without making things into a competition...stressing that just trying one's hardest/best is what counts, that life is really more about the journey not the destination. The illustrations and the rhyming poems are of the same quality as the other books I've read by Curtis and Cornell...and I think that's part of what makes this book work so well...the illustrations are a chaotic symphony...so much to see, so many little details for young minds to love and the play between what the words mean literally and what they mean figuratively is absolutely perfect for pulling in both children and adults! This is really a wonderful book for all ages and as with others by this author, its best as a read aloud...the larger the group the more interesting the story telling discussion afterwards...and believe me, there will be plenty!!Simply a spectacular way to introduce some complex ideas to younger readers!I'll definitely be adding this to my permanent collection! A+!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

"Did you ever fly a kite in bed? Did you ever walk with ten cats on your head?" Such are the profound, philosophical queries posed in this well-loved classic by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel. While many rhymes in this couplet collection resemble sphinx-worthy riddles, Seuss's intention is clear: teach children to read in a way that is both entertaining and educational. It matters little that each wonderful vignette has nothing to do with the one that follows. (We move seamlessly from a one-humped Wump and Mister Gump to yellow pets called the Zeds with one hair upon their heads.) Children today will be as entranced by these ridiculous rhymes as they have been since the book's original publication in 1960--so amused and enchanted, in fact, they may not even notice they are learning to read! 4-0 out of 5 stars A review of the Vinyl Bath Book edition only!
Since my 7-month-old still thinks books are for putting in your mouth, I've been buying him bath books. I bought this one sight unseen from Amazon, and as much as I love the classic "One Fish, Two Fish," I was a little disappointed. First, the book is small, even for a bath book (about 4x6 inches -- the "8.3 x 4.8" dimensions in the Amazon description are just plain WRONG). Second, the book was shorter than I expected. It consists only of the first 8 pages of the original "One Fish." Of course, the baby doesn't know how abridged the book is, so he enjoys it. And the colors are bright, the printing is sharp, and the overall package is high-quality and holds up to lots of handling. But there's not much there to read to him.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Book but Rips Apart QUICKLY- NOT DESIGNED FOR TODDLERS!
My Son loves these books. However, the flaps rip off very easily. He really misses these books! Without a lot of effort or very aggressive "lifting", these flaps on several of Karen Katz's books ripped right off.
4-0 out of 5 stars Flap books always a favorite
The children seemed to enjoy the reading of this book. They were especially taken by finding the surprises under each flap. If there were one detail I might change would be to make the word under the flap more easily visible without having to fold the flap all the way back. It doesn't lay flat again after that.We read the book again and again.

This book brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it.It is warm and comforting.A wonderful message for children that their mama will always be there no matter what...

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but okay
I feel like I am supposed to love this book since it is by the same author of the beloved "Goodnight Moon", but I don't and neither does my child. The illustrations are a bit bland and the story is unremarkable. It also lacks the rhythm of "Goodnight Moon".As a result it just doesn't seem to keep my child's attention. On one hand the message of a mom's unconditional love is rather sweet, but the way she goes about it is borderline creepy.By following her unwilling child all over the world she has the potential of appearing more obsessive and domineering than pleasant and caring. In the end, however, the book is harmless and many people seem to think it's a very charming book.I would just recommend giving it a quick read in the book store before you purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Love And Devotion
I love the runaway bunny and my kids love the runaway bunny. It makes us laugh, brings us closer together, and helps reinforce the most important lesson my children can learn "A Mother's Love has no limits." We laughed at the young bunny's frustration, marveled at the mother bunny's persistence, and discussed the love and commitment that strengthens our own family. The Runaway Bunny has been a useful tool in reinforcing my dedication to my children. As young children enjoyed the pictures. It's small and simple, but the lesson is profound. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Young Jeremy Jacob is plucked from obscurity while innocently constructing a sand castle and is thrust into a brand-new life as a pirate. Captain Braid Beard and his crew recognize Jeremy as an exceptionally talented digger and they happen to be in desperate need of a digger to help them bury a treasure chest. Jeremy thinks a pirate life sounds like fun, as long as he’s back the next day in time for soccer practice, and so he goes along with the ragtag group of seafaring thugs (with hearts of gold, naturally). And while Jeremy adores the pirates’ lack of table manners and opposition to vegetables, he comes to realize that a life away from his parents lacks some of the niceties to which he’s become accustomed. Nobody tucks him in at night, for instance, and the only book available to read is a treasure map. Melinda Long’s story, narrated with a sense of boastful exaggeration by Jeremy, is full of a sense of high adventure that's lovingly evocative of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tales. David Shannon's illustrations, full of a goofy vibrancy, are a perfect accompaniment to the story. (Ages 4 to 8) Read more

Wonderful illustrations and a cute story with a message for children. Cleverly written in a way that prompts little would-be pirates to chime in!

Vibrant pictures, plenty of opportunity to attempt the personage of a pirate, and touches on things near and dear to my daughter's heart: stories at bed time, table manners (not so much), soccer and brushing your teeth. She loves it so I love it, too.

I read this book to my English Language Learner first graders and got rave reviews. The illustrations (by David Shannon of "No, David" fame... another winner) are dynamic and eye-catching, and the text is at once both comprehensible and exciting.

My two year old son likes this book, but it would be even better for a younger child. It will be passed down to his baby brother.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loads of Fun for Toddlers!
My 16 month old daughter is not overly excited by most books and loses intrest quickly, but she loves this book and can play with it for an hour. She loves to bring it to us to read with her, and she loves lifting the flaps and she giggles at her accomlishment of showing us where "baby's belly button/eyes/hands etc" are.

4-0 out of 5 stars A simgeon of pigeon
I didn't realize when I bought this book it is a stiff paged book for small children. But as usual the pigeon brings a smile to your face!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a BOARD BOOK - you know the kind with pages thick and durable enough for your toddler to chew
I mention that this is a board book because so many parents seem dissapointed by how few pages it contains.
4-0 out of 5 stars Another smigeon of Pigeon!
Mo Willems delights again! Personnally a big fan of Pigeon, in particular the hot dog episode, I awaited "The Pigeon has feelings too!" with eagerness. And even though it is only a 5 or 10 page board book, with very little action; it's still a great book. The illustrations make it. Though I would certainly reccommend "The Pigeon finds a hot dog!" or "Don't let the Pigeon drive the bus!" first, this little book is worth checking out if you have very young children in the family. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Actually a bedtime story
Margaret Wise Brown succeeds again in creating a story that parents love to read and children love to listen to.
5-0 out of 5 stars Big Red Barn
My daughter loves this book! She's 6 years old and reads it all the way thru. If your child loves animals he or she will love this book. My daughter bugged me and bugged me to get this book for her. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic that is a must have
I find that when reading reviews online a lot of parents will give a children's book FIVE stars even though the book is not outstanding. I like to reward five stars to the books that are true winners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it again daddy!
This is one of those books that gets read over and over and over.Unlike some other books which end up at the bottom of the drawer. My 5 year old son is also starting to read the book himself (I hear him on the monitor). The other books in is this series are just as good if not better.
5-0 out of 5 stars Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type
Great book!I just wish it was clearer that it was a paper book and not card board (which are much more durable for a two year old). Also, would love to know age approprietness for books when buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Selection!
Cows that type? Get out of town! Well, these cows do type, and negotiate. Life in a barnyard could not be more interesting than in this precarious story of farm animals that take a stand to better themselves and their environment. I loved the expressions on the animal's faces when Farmer Brown reacts to their demands. 'Eyes wide open' certainly applies here. This is a read aloud must! Not since I read Animal Farm by Orwell, have I been completely captivated by farm animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars friendship
This is one of my favorite children's books. It reminds me that friendship is something to value and savor for every moment, and is not something to take for granted. Just as Corduroy was doing everything in his power to find his lost butten so he would be wanted, the little girl was saving her money to have companionship from Corduroy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it- so sweet
I loved this story as a child and now read it to my son.It is so sweet. The story is timeless.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 9 month old loves this book!
I read many board books to my son and the first time I read this to him, he couldn't get enough! We haven't bought Brown Bear yet, but certainly do that after seeing his reaction to this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting
I was so pleasantly surprised when our copy of Polar Bear, Polar Bear arrived, I immediately read it to my 2 and a half year old son.He owns the board book, so I decided to purchase another copy since the board book has seen better days.We both just simply loved the replacement. It was in mint condition and the quality of the pages is wonderful.Couldn't be more satisfied with our find!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great companion to Brown Bear, Brown Bear

4-0 out of 5 stars A very short book
Due to the shortness of this book, my daughter prevailed upon me to read it more often. It's very cute though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for little ones!!!
My 8 months old son loves this book and mostly at nightime. He'd rather this one than the other ones. Everytime when I start the song, he gets fascinating. The illustrations are great and catch my son's attention .......He Loves it!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for nightime reading!
My 11 month son loves this book! I read it to him almost every day before puttign him to bed. As I read the book, we imitate the gestures from the illustrations which he loves. I am only giving 4 stars because it's a short book, however I usually read it with a few other books before bed time, to make it up. ... Read more
