Wonderful book for babies and small children
I bought this book for my son when he was three months old.He was mesmerized by it the first time he saw it.The illustrations are simple and colorful.This is the only book that he will look at over and over without throwing it aside.The rhymes are catchy, too!I've read it to him SO many times, all I have to do now is recite a few poems and he flashes a smile immediately!Buy this book!You won't regret it!

SIMPLICITY
This book has simplicity to go along with outstanding illustrations.The pages are sturdy. The illustrations are so easy to comprehend. The script is neatly printed. In all, it is superior to our expectations. Lucy Cousins ought to receive 10 gold stars for the top-notch art work. What an eye for color!

Learn new rhymes
Obviously, I like some of the rhymes more than others, and it would be better if each page was devoted to only one rhyme (some are, some aren't).However, I appreciate the sturdy construction, the colorful illustrations, and the variety of rhymes that at least I had never heard.We read it every day during mealtime, and the fact that the pages are easy to turn and I have all the rhymes memorized helps with the task of reading when the book back is facing me and I'm holding a spoon in the other hand! ... A treasury of Nursery Rhymes
I was very hesitant to order nursery rhymes without seeing the book as many of the newer ones have changed the rhymes.These books have left them in the form I remember learning as a young child which is what I wanted for my grand children.I am very happy with these books.

Great classroom resource
In contrast to a previous reviewer, I think this is a terrific resource for any early childhood program.The illustrations are simple line drawings that don't distract from the text.In my primary classroom, we do many rhyming activities as a prelude to reading.I found this vast collection of Mother Goose rhymes to be a strong resource.I am able to use different verses for either different themes or different vowel/consonant sound work.It might not be the kind of book that you cuddle up on the couch with but it will be very useful in the classroom

Terrible Illustrations
I wanted a large book of Mother Goose rhymes for my grandson for Christmas.Although it is rated ages 4-8, I thought my 3-year-old grandson would enjoy it, based on the cute color illustrations shown on the view of the cover.The only cute illustrations were the ones on the cover.The ones inside were small and all green line prints.In addition, it is soft cover.I compromised on the soft cover because hard cover was not available.I would not recommend the book for anyone under 6. ... Child Pleaser
My toddler adores this book.The colors are bright, the picturesare large, the rhymes are traditional, and mostly familiar ("Baa Baa Black Sheep," "Jack and Jill").As I'm reading,I do alter such harsh though realistic nursery rhymes as "There was an old woman."Instead of saying that she scolds her children and sends them to bed, I'm compelled to say that she kisses them kindly.The artwork, I think, is better than that in the Rosemary Wells collection of nursery rhymes. ...
