3-0 out of 5 stars We Like Toes, Ears, and Nose Better
These two books - Where Is Baby's Belly Button and Toes, Ears, and Nose are so similar, you only need one of them. And my boys prefer Toes, Ears, and Nose. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's because more body parts are discussed.

5-0 out of 5 stars cute book
My two year old son likes this book, but it would be even better for a younger child. It will be passed down to his baby brother.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loads of Fun for Toddlers!
My 16 month old daughter is not overly excited by most books and loses intrest quickly, but she loves this book and can play with it for an hour. She loves to bring it to us to read with her, and she loves lifting the flaps and she giggles at her accomlishment of showing us where "baby's belly button/eyes/hands etc" are.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 2 year old loved this book
My 2 year old daughter loves this book. She loves the flip up pages and feeling the different textures. She tends to be pretty rough on books and this one is holding up great.

3-0 out of 5 stars It is okay, but examples aren't perfect
I have a 2.5 year old son, and I ended up changing the wording to the story when I read it to him.I was a little disappointed by the examples that were used to teach manners, because my child didn't catch on as to why, for example, he would say "no thank you" when asked if he wanted peas for breakfast. My son would be willing to eat peas for breakfast!
2-0 out of 5 stars big step down in physical quality
our 20 month old daughter LOVES the Karen Katz "lift the flap" books, and this one was no exception, EXCEPT that this book is physically cheaper quality and less robust - after only about 2 weeks, this one was pretty much destroyed. It's much less robust than "where's baby's mommy" and "where's baby's bellybutton", our other two Karen Katz books. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

More than 60 years have not dated this wonderfully absurd tale--itstill makes kids (and parents) laugh out loud. Poor Mr. Popper isn't exactly unhappy; he just wishes he had seen something of the world before meeting Mrs. Popper and settling down. Most of all, he wishes he had seen the Poles, and spends his spare time between house-painting jobs reading all about polar explorations. Admiral Drake, in response to Mr. Popper's fan letter, sends him a penguin; life at 432 Proudfoot Avenue is never the same again. From one penguin living in the icebox, the Popper family grows to include 12 penguins, all of whom must be fed. Thus is born "Popper's Performing Penguins, First Time on Any Stage, Direct from the South Pole." Their adventures while on tour are hilarious, with numerous slapstick moments as the penguins disrupt other acts and invade hotels. Classic chapter-a-night fun. (Ages 5 to 10) Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Popper's Is Easy reading
Mr. Popper's Penguins is an easy read for a twelve-year old boy, and I found it enjoyable. It wasn't necessarily suspenseful, but each chapter ended with a problem that needed to be solved. This book would be great to use for a book report. The characters in the story are well developed and can be compared and contrasted. It would also be a great read-aloud for little children because of the silliness in it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless classic
I loved this book when my second grade teacher read it to us over 43 years ago.My second graders love it today. There are so many extras to learn with the actual story - what life was like before television, when people traveled by train, when people went to see newsreels, when people saw trained animal acts at the theater...And they love all the funny things that happen to poor Mr. Popper and his family. They learned about Antarctica and the explorers like Admiral Drake and Captain Cook. They wrote about how they thought the story would end. Then they wrote letters back home but I don't want to give any more away. You'll fall for these lovable penguins and their family too!

    5-0 out of 5 stars Mr.Popper's Penguins
Mr.Popper's Penguins is the best book. and because it is old and a lot of people still read it is very amazing. I think that everyone should read it. When Mr.Popper gets a penguin by mail and then he trains them too do perforemences and when someone that goes on stage doesn't appear so they go on stage and become famouse. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite in our house!
This and "Once Upon a Potty" are my son's (age 2) favorites. It's a great potty book, and personally, I think it's a plus that it's unclear whether the child in the story is a boy or a girl - that just means either gender will easily be able to relate. As for whether it encourages toddlers to use the potty, I think it does. Whenever we read this, my son shouts "Diapers off!" and flies to the potty chair. One thing that's a real positive about this is that it's a bit long. That's been a help keeping my son sitting on the potty longer without being distracted by a toy or a noise or whatever. I'd highly recommend A Potty for Me for anyone looking to start or add to their potty training toolbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great potty book!
My son (2 years) has loved this book for months. In fact, our family has memorized it now, we have read it so many times.I like how it written on a child's level and emphasized that the most important part of the whole potty learning process is that the child feel good about his/her accomplishments!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's all in how you know your child will respond...
I have a little boy who will be 3 very soon.He is now at the stage where he tells me when to change poopy diapers, so I know that he is now entering the potty training stage. When looking for a book on encouraging the "potty" concept, I was so delighted to find a Karen Katz book.My child has two Katz books previous to this and loves the illustrations and easy language.Previous books were very instrumental in his grasp of sharing and not hitting. So it led me to purchase this book on potty training. So far, my son has LOVED the book and requests for me to read it over and over.He also is applying the concepts in the book to our visits to the big potty.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love this book!
My daughter is only 20 months old now, but we began reading this book to her at about 14 months. She has learned the names of fruits in spanish and how to count to 5 within a couple of weeks of beginning to read it.It is one of her favorite books along with "Oso pardo, Oso pardo...".This is one of the required books for a spanish class that she will be beginning when she turns 2.As a spanish speaker it is a really easy book for me to read with fun pictures that my daughter enjoys. Even now she loves to put her fingers in the holes to count the fruit. For parents/caregivers who are not quite as experienced in reading spanish, it may be a little difficult to pronounce some of the words, but with some help you should be able to read the words effortlessly after a few times. My parents and in-laws don't speak much english and they love reading these spanish books to their granddaughter. It's a great way for them to bond.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spanish version of a classic!
This Spanish version of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" is just as cute as the English version.Children will love the pages of varying sizes with holes where the caterpillar has eaten up the food.
5-0 out of 5 stars So cool!
In case you aren't familiar with this book, it is about a caterpillar who eats and eats and eats. The board book version has holes in the pages so the reader can see what he has eaten. It is so cute! The illustrations are adorable and the kids love it!We are a bilingual family so my boys have the Spansih version. It's super and very durable! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "Daddy and Son"
Bought this for my husband to read to our daughter, but should have looked more carefully at the content because it's all about a little boy working with his dad on a project. Not really appropriate for father/daughter.Also, I do find that the flaps on these books are flimsy and hard to open.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book with flimsy paper flaps
All of Karen Katz's books are well written, cute stories with bright fabric inspired illustrations, however the flaps areVERY flimsy and can be torn off easily by little hands. The thin paper flaps are not durable at at all. Also, the flaps don't all open the same way so your little one must learn how to open each flap differently. Despite this, I still purchase more of her books since my 16 month son picks out Katz's books each day for storytime and enjoys them immensely.

2-0 out of 5 stars So Gender Biased and Stereotyped
I don't know if we are just a strange a-typical family, but this whole daddy and me book was based on things that only mommy can do in our house- daddy doesn't even have any tools. I love Karen Katz books, but this story simply made us cringe. If you are a father who has a son and like to do stuff with you tools in the garage, then this book is for you. ... Read more

This book does not do much for me, but my 2-year old son absolutely loves it.The book gives him a chance to make animal sounds, and the raised texture of the spider web invites his touch.Of course he is fascinated by the spider herself.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good message, but not so entertaining
My daughter is 3 months old, and she will listen to this story since it is short.I love the message.I would give it 5 stars, but she doesn't get absorbed in it like The Very Hungry Catapillar.

3-0 out of 5 stars Where is Baby's Mommy?
My 20-month daughter absolutely loves this book. Lifting all the flaps and being suprised everytime to see what is behind them. Always when she finds the Mommy I say " There's mommy" she looks at me with her big brown eyes and says "NO" and points to me and says "Mommy". The book is absolutely ADORABLE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my two-year old!!!
Hide and seek is his favorite game so this book is perfect. With every flap he says, "Noooooo" and gleefully "YES!" on the last page. And mommy is hiding under the blanket, which is his favorite place to hide (or for me to hide)! It is our favorite out of all the Katz books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby can't get enough
My 10 month old son loves these books so much.If he sees them he lights up and crawls over very quickly. He especially loves where is Baby's Mommy. He flips the flaps on the pages and giggles at times and he never gets sick of it.It can even bring him out of a bad mood, even if only when reading the books. He thinks he is a big boy because he flips pages and flaps and he thinks he makes things happen that way.Two big thumbs up.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gender and race
While I do like the story of these books, and my 1 year old daughter seems to enjoy the lifting the flaps task, the gender roles are pretty iron clad in these books (Mommy is dowdy and PTA-ish, Grandma bakes cookies and has low set wire rimmed glasses, Daddy is building a dog house). Also, very few nonwhite characters, excepting the belly button book. Also, my daughter was able to rip off the flaps of several pages.Just OK, I think.

These block books are the perfect size for small hands to grasp and enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!Great stacking & learning toy!
I bought this for my son who was 20 months old at the time.I thought it would be a great learning tool for my daughter (5) to show & 'teach' my son words as well as help her learn to read.So far it has proven to be a great toy for both of them & something that they can do together. But I was surprised that the real appeal to these books are that they are stackable. My son will spend hours stacking them & knocking them down & restacking but also he loves to bring them to me & ask me what the pictures are.I originally purchased it, thinking it was a great deal but then thinking that it would end up being one of those 'all over the house' toys...as it turns out, my son is crazy about keeping all the books together in the box so that hasn't been a big problem.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for Toddlers!
My 22 month-old son received this as a gift, and I've since given a set to two other toddlers. What a great box of books! The books are simple and straighforward, perfect for his budding vocabulary. He loves to pick them each up in turn, show me the few pages and identify each picture, and then drop the book (ker-plunk!) into the box. But the fun doesn't stop there - the books are also great for sorting into piles by color, and for using like blocks to build towers. They're sturdy and tough, able to withstand chewing, standing-upon, and bending backwards in my son's hands. Get a set! Get one now! :D ... Read more

My 15 month old loves this book. The flaps are quite sturdy and can withstand her constant manipulation. Only problem I have with the book is that the names of the respective animals are not printed on each page. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Inside the Titanic: A Giant Cut-away Book
My 8 year old grandson is a Titanic nut. He has taken every Titanic related book out of the school library. When I gave him this book he was like estatic, "This is the best book ever Grandmom!" We are now making a Titanic model from a huge piece of styrofoam using this book as reference. The book is easy enough for him to understand (especially the cut aways) but has enough info to keep an adult interested.

4-0 out of 5 stars Giant Cut-away Book
It was a very interesting book. As the title indicates, it shows numerous cut-away pictures of the inside of the Titanic. It was nice to see where dining rooms, sitting rooms, the gym, the pool, etc were in relation to each other and the cabins and state rooms of the passengers. Good book for middle school aged children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for kids
My five-year old son recently became obsessed with the Titanic, so I was very pleased to see that there are actually books written and illustrated with children in mind. However, the illustrations and the information in this book were interesting to me as well!Very well done - highly recommended for kids of all ages! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars simply fabulous
my mom got me this book for christmas last year.now i don't collect pop-ups nor am i young enough to still be receiving such gifts, but i was thrilled when i saw what robert sabuda had done with one of my favorite books.it's amazing how meticulous and detailed each and every one of the illustrations is.he really brings to life what i remember reading dozens of times over.not only are is his work artistically impressive, it remains true to the original work.now whenever i have to buy a book for cousin or niece or nephew i buy them this book, so that they can remain as enthralled as i am. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Daughter LOVES it!
My 10 month old daughter loves this book and other flap books like it.She'll dig through her toys to find them and spends much time going from page to page opening and closing the flaps!
5-0 out of 5 stars Loved in this house!
This book was loved by all my kids at around 1.5 years on up. Get a few copies as toddlers can be rough with the doors and they eventually do fall off. I give this book as a gift as well when friends have babies.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I ordered this book based on all its' glowing reviews. I was a little disappointed when it arrived though. It's very small... yes... good for throwing in your purse etc.. but the flaps inside are also very small. Too small for my 11 month old to use, and a little difficult to find. I'm still going to give it four stars. The illustrations are very colorful and fun. The location of the flaps with-in the pictures is very well done... it's just a shame they are so small. I'm sure my son will really enjoy this book in 5 months or so.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BUY
This text is an invaluable picture book for children learning how to read, how to enjoy reading and to learn about the joys and absurdities that life can bring. It is a humerous text that utilises excellent illustrations to represent the plot. The plot itself humerously intertwines fantasy with reality, ofcoarse it depends upon the child's imagination. A must for any child that enjoys playing with words and surreal ideas. The book's design is additionally unique in that is in an organisational folder style whereby children may select various imaginary creatures as they choose. I hope that others can share this wonderful picture book with all children they read to and/or with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elicits Wonderful Langugage
This is a great book that reinforces a strong message to children. I read this book every year in my classroom during the first week of school. I do not focus on the colors in the book - I feel that the story's value lies in the message that everyone is unique and special. The kind of responses that children offer in response to this high-quality piece of literature is amazing....a great read, in the classroom and at home.

    5-0 out of 5 stars The Mixed-Up Chameleon,School Project
I think that "The Mixed-Up Chameleon" by Eric Carle is a really great, fun and interesting, and a great learning experience for children.Personally, I have loved this book since as long as I can remember. In the beginning, it describes a chameleon that is bored of its boring life.He then goes to the zoo and sees all kinds of different and beautiful animals.Astonished by the sight of all of them, he wishes to become them one by one.He must wish to be about ten animals including a person. After all of this excitement, he sees a fly and......Well, I can't tell you what happens!Buy this book and your child(children) and you can find out together.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars ONLY THE FIRST PAGE IS ABOUT BITING!!!
Only the first page is about biting, and the flip page concept is confusing. First you look at what you're not supposed to do (eg. No biting) and then you look at what you are supposed to do (eg. Bite an apple?$#@!). I'm not impressed with the book at all and disappointed that the title is so misleading.
5-0 out of 5 stars NO BITING!
I GOT THIS BOOK AS PART OF A READING PROGRAM I ENROLLED MY DAUGHTER IN THROUGH OUR LOCAL LIBRARY.SHE LOVES IT!!!I THINK IT IS A WONDERFUL BOOK!!!SOME OF THE THINGS DO NOT APPLY TO HER, BUT SHE UNDERSTANDS THAT NO HITTING MOMMY ALSO MEANS NO HITTING DADDY.NO HITTING OR NO BITTING MEANS NO FOR EVERYONE!!!!! I WAS ALSO THRILLED WHEN THE BOOK "EXCUSE ME" BY THE SAME AUTHOR SHOWED UP IN THE MAIL THE FOLLOWING MONTH.

4-0 out of 5 stars Remember to apply to your situation
I got this book for my son who has trouble with biting, especially his older sister. I don't read the book word for word, but be sure to use words that apply to the situation at hand, using the pictures as visual aids. For example, I'll read "We don't bite people, we don't bite sisters or friends" instead of the printed, "No biting friends".

5-0 out of 5 stars adorable
I had Dr. Seuss' books as a child and want my baby to enjoy them as much as I did. This nursery book is brightly colored, very sturdy and my 5-mo old keeps reaching for it. The plastic fish on the top make noise and baby loves to keep count with them. I'm very very happy with this purchase. I also reccomend other board books form this nursery collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
I am a speech pathologist who reads this to children from ages three to eight. The children are soooo impressed with the foldouts and my favorite spot of my day is watching a first time "reader" of the book as the foldouts spread out.The pages with the longest ladder anyone has ever seen knock the kids between the eyes! You HAVE to see their faces!!
5-0 out of 5 stars My 2-year old's very favorite book
I bought this on a whim because my daughter likes saying good night to the moon.It was one of five books I purchased in one order, and the rest remain unread because my two-year old daughter immediately picked this one as the one she wanted read - over and over and over again. She can recite practically the whole thing and so strongly identifies with the little girl in the story she likes to pretend to be Monica (or she gets confused and thinks she IS Monica). It's a cute story and the fold-outs are unusual and compelling, but it's one of those rare books that has struck a deep chord with her - and that I can tolerate reading over and over and over again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun book for teaching preschool concepts
I am not the biggest fan of the Little People product line, but this book is really quite good.It is a very fun book that most preschoolers will really enjoy. It's a great way to get your child involved and excited about counting, identifying shapes, colors and animals and understanding opposites.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter absolutely LOVES this book
My 16 month old daughter, Sophie, was introduced to the Little People Lift-the-flap series with this Farm book when she was 9 months old. She loved this book so much that for easter I purchased school bus and the cars & trains one, just today I bought the newest ones (busy town and the zoo). She gets so exicted after saying "book" when I pick her up and put her in my lap and begin reading the pages (that i now have memorized). She also enjoys lifting the flaps herself. Through these books she has learned a lot of differnt animals including what sounds they make. I would give these books ten stars if I could and plan to begin giving them as gifts to other children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE
I purchased this for my daughter at about a year old or so because I wanted a book she could do something with, plus, she was a huge fan of Little People. She LOVED this book.It has nice thick board book pages, and the flaps are relatively sturdy compared to many lift the flap books which are flimsy. Also, the colors are very bright and there is so much to look at.I highly recommend it and have purchased it as a gift for others a few times already. ...
