Editorial Review

This Squaresoft-sanctioned book on one of the most highly anticipated console games ever does not disappoint. Those who have managed to obtain a copy of the game (descriptions of rioting and fighting upon the retail release of Final Fantasy IIV sound like sheer hyperbole, but probably aren't) will find plenty of helpful clues, maps, and general game play advice. Those less fortunate can at least take solace in--or further whet their appetites with--the hundreds of beautiful glossy screen shots that fill each chapter. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No Good At ALL
This is one of the worst game guides I have read in my life...and I've read a few. I got it back in '97 when the game first came out and spoiled everything (even THE big event at the end of the first disc). I later got the guide from Versus Books and it blew this pathetic book out of the water. It spoiled nothing and had twice the amount of useful secrets (including materia combos). Don't waste your time (and money) with this joke. Thankfully, BRADYGames realized its idiocy, fixed it, and got it right for FFVIII's guide (which basically aped FFVII's Versus Books' guide's style). Then they ruined it again with that awful, useless FFIX guide. I guess money grubbers never learn. And guys, you're supposed to be reviewing the GUIDE, not the game...

2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible...
I guess this is an okay guide if you just want to get the game over with, but why would you waste your time doing that? This guide misses out on so much. I've found items on my own that weren't even mentioned in the guide. The bestiary has no organization and it's still missing many monsters/enemies. You can tell that they tried to make it in the order that you'll encounter the enemies, but many of them can be found before and many of them aren't even listed at all. The weapons, items, and materials information at the end is not detailed enough. "Side Areas" lacks organizations and it isn't very helpful. Where is the help on Enemy Skills? On the walkthrough section, they don't even tell you the right buttons most of the time (not that you need it, though). The numbering/lettering system gets a little bit confusing. A lot of their "strategies" are based on the same party that they like to use. Not everyone likes to use Aeris, especially if they have played the game before. I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you. On a side note, the PC version (black and white, I can't find it anywhere anymore) by the same author was so much better. Everything that this guide lacked was in the PC version (except for color, but they made that up by having color maps and stuff in the back).

2-0 out of 5 stars Product damage
The service was great I recieved my package within a week, but when i opened it i noticed that the book was damaged due to the poor handling. I guess if your looking to just have the guide for reference then you won't have a problem but if you want it for keeps then you might want to order it with some bigger stuff so it doesn't get damaged on the way. ... Editorial Review

Authors Bart Farkas and Douglas Kiang are more concerned with making learning Flight Simulator fun than they are with the minutia of real-life aviation. Even so, the game's options for intense realism make it impossible to talk about the simulation with out teaching a bit of the real thing. Farkas and Kiang keep the fun level up with a light-hearted breezy style that encourages playfulness in the virtual cockpit. The book is loaded with useful tips for beginners and experienced players alike--as well as some devilish ideas no pilot would dare try in real life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Without the availability of all the VOR and NDB frequencies shown in the book it is very difficult to fly from one area of the country to another.I use it daily for all my flights. I realize these frequencies areavailable within the FS 98 program but this is more convenient.

1-0 out of 5 stars Completely useless book. Don't buy it.
I have the 5.1 Flight Simulator version of this book. That is indeed an interesting and stimulating book. I expected this one to be as interesting the 5.1 version and that was the reason for buying it. The Windows 95 version is a total deception. It offers virtually no interesting information, besides the one you can get browsing Flight Simulator's interface and help system. Saveyour money. Avoid the book ... Read more

Now THIS is a real videogame strategy guide. The official strategy guide for "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" is an extremely helpful little tool in your quest of chaos and mayhem. It'll help you out if you're in a tough jam or need to know how to get out of a rough situation pronto. The guide offers step-by-step descriptions of what should be done in order to complete all of the missions that are thrown in your way.Pictures are included, as well as alternate routes and techniques to get the job done.4-0 out of 5 stars the guide
ok this guide is helpful but i completed all the missions before i bought the guide i only got it to find the hidden packages easier but just like the gta 3 guide there is some wrong info in this guide so be careful

1-0 out of 5 stars Why pay for a strategy guide?

Editorial Review

This is more than an exceptional strategy guide. Everything in it, from hints and solutions to the reasoning behind the strategy, is impeccably presented. DeMaria invokes the spirit of the game with his descriptions, keeping both the eeriness and the fun. Two big extras, though, make this book especially enjoyable for 7th Guest fans. There's a copy of the game's entire original script (so that's how the story goes when everything happens in order) and an interview with masterminds Graham Devine and Rob Landeros, who take you behind the scenes. ... Don't waste your money. The point of a "puzzle" game is to solve the puzzles using your brainpower. Strategy guides in general are more helpful for strategy-style games (SimCity, etc). In this case, itis just giving you solutions.
5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent and thurough book.Don't play the game w/o it.
This book is one of the best I have ever seen.I only wished I had picked it up when I still had the chance. If you plan on playing the 7th guest and not having this book right at your side.....I hope you are planning ondevoting your life to this game...cause it will take you that long.Thisbook also gives you information you can't get anywhere else. This is oneof the best, well thought out, in-depth books you will ever (not)find.Thewalk thru's are detailed and easy to follow.A must have for any seriousgamer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nice book. Read it. NOW!!!
This was my very first game programming book. Eversince I have read 2 other books about programming, and am working on two more.
5-0 out of 5 stars A good starting point
Short: I am writing this review from the perspective of a high school student who started with Blitz, went on to a more advanced language, and is now revisiting Blitz again.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book, Deceptive Marketing
The reviews for the first edition of this book, and its software, were very positive. I bought it for my kids shortly after the second edition came out. This edition of the book is useful, but the software--supposedly the key to making the book work, since it is supposed to allow you to actually design games as you go along--is advertised on the back of the book as being unlimited, and it's not unlimited. It's a demo that expires after several uses. Supposedly there's an unlimited version on the author's web site; good luck finding it.

5-0 out of 5 stars WCIII:Frozen Throne Strategy Guide
I admit, I am one of those people who is always buying the guides for games.I get easily frustrated when I can't figure something out, so if I can't beat a mission on the first or second try, I cheat or use a guide to help.I was having issues with some of the missions while I was playing the Frozen Throne campaign and I finally got the guide.I only use it for the chapter-by-chapter walkthrough of the campaign for assistance during the particularly rough missions. It was incredibly useful, very detailed - everything I expected from a strategy guide. It had all the information I wanted, plus a heck of a lot more - but it was easy to navigate through and find exactly the mission I was having trouble with and find the solution to my problem.I highly recommend this guide! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good guide, still some missing info though..
I strive to finish a game and THEN buy the guide. This guide has pretty much everything you need to know. One major thing it's missing is strategy for the "final battle".
2-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Good Enough From Fox
Strategy guides have always seemed to have a interesting effect to help people with video games. Nevertheless, third-party companies that make those guides for video games don't actually make them very well at all. For Star Fox Adventures, it has been one of the most surprising video games ever developed for the Nintendo Gamecube. However, the strategy guide Brady Games developed does have a lot of problems. The maps and details are really not detailed enough and quite misleading on certain courses. Another problem is that it doesn't display how to defeat the Star Fox menace, Andross. For so many, they are just better off passing this guide up, for the real deal by Nintendo.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Good guide
I liked this guide. It was clear and concise as most guides should be.I like the screens and how much time they spent getting you used to the game was an extra treat. They didn't jump right into the walkthrough which I was glad for. Also, the walkthrough was much more clearly organized and easy to read as compared to the other guides (I really didn't like the Nintendo Power guide for this game...). 1-0 out of 5 stars mortal kombat : evolved, but no guide needed really
Mortal Kombat:DA is a fine game with all new characters and graphics that r fantastic on xbox but not on ps2 or gamecube {and i'm not just saying that cause i hate the ngc or ps2 cause i own all 3 and have experience with them] But is a strategy guide really needed the game's isn't even difficult and u already have their moves list on an especially easy to follow menu , so i dont think it's needed but saying that it is useful for fatalities which r cool but not as cool as mk1 and mk2 . And is there any way to do friend ships cause they were cool especially Lui kang's disco inferno and thats true as well MK:DA doesn't have good fighters in like Shao Kahn and Lui Kang and Sub zero looks worse than ever as well as Raiden who Looks powerless just like KUng Lao and reptile as well . So in conclusion guide is ok but only for fatalities , MK:DA is good but NOT AS GOOD as MK1 and MK2 which were fantastic on arcade and snes but hard to play on megadrive.2-0 out of 5 stars Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance?-Good.This guide?-Not.
Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance is probably the best fighting game out there. However, when I bought the guide, I realized that it was exactly the same info that could be found in the character's Konquest mode, and by pausing any game and bringing up the character's moves. The guide only adds a few combos, and it never covers any character's fighting styles very well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bland but at least shiny
The guide doesn't offer a great deal of content. Some nice shiny pictures, a lot of information rehashed from the game manual, a few good character ideas and a fairly good walkthrough. As some one who played this game way too much, it's clear the creators had only modest familiarity with the game just by the descriptions they offer for feats, items, etc. If you like having a walkthrough it does a solid job of that, but otherwise I found it mostly useless.

3-0 out of 5 stars neverwinter nights: hordes of the underdark
pros: very informative, good flow with the game story line
4-0 out of 5 stars It's worth it
Well, I must say that the writer has a bit of a sence of Humor, however I think the book is a bit backwords. The detail for the story and quests are very good, however they should have placed it in the front of the book, not the back. Very colorful, well writen and full of info. This is a must for NWN players. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars At this price??
I sincerely hope no one would be crazy enough to buy the strategy guide at four times the price of the game. It is a good game, but you can figure out most of the stuff that is in the guide for yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Play
I really was put down when I realized how different tactics would be compared to the origional Fallout 1 and 2; it had excellent graphics and a good storyline, and the new and improved items were great. I can't forget the multiplayer and map creators that are readily available, but if you are interested in buying tactics for the sheer RPG value of it,then don't even bother. Go for Deus Ex or Baldurs Gate. 5-0 out of 5 stars A well layed out book
This book has many tables and lists of all the statistics in the Fallout Tactics universe. It also gives information on comabat, charactors (and charactor building), missions, enemies, perks, skills, MULTIPLAYER, and tips on how to win your way to victory. It was easy to understand, the good thing was that it didn't tell exactly what to do. This left the game open, not a complete walkthrough (you know, do this, do that... no fun!). The book really helps make the Fallout expirience ten times better. Buy this book and make the most out of your game. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good layout and breakdown, but not very accurate.
I thought that the book was organized nicely, the fact that there was three levels of information given for each area helped you get the hint you needed without getting too much information and spoiling some of the fun. The first section lists all the areas and important people to talk to, the second gives you hints as to what you should be trying to accomplish in that area, and the last section gives detailed instructions. There are also sections on enemies and equiptment. I thought that they needed to add more detail when giving the most detailed hints though. Lines like "If your speech skill is high enough..." Why not just say that you need a 45 in speech? My main problem though, was simply inaccuracy. About five times a main point is incorrect, such as needing to go to junktown for a SMG or a disarming key being on the Lt. in the Glow. In summation, good design, most of the info you need, but some irritating inaccuracy. By: Travis Blinkenberg

4-0 out of 5 stars A little too official but it's still a good guide
If you are beginnig to play fallout or are stucksomewere in the game it's the book for you. On the other hand, I bought this book because I had conquered every level in the game and I wanted to see if there was something else that I hadn't come by in Fallout, unfortunatly there wasn't so I was quite dissapointed in that and also they talked about fancy weapons you can have but they don't tell you where they are.I still enjoyed reading about the best game on the computer right now even though it was a little too official and not very oppiniated. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It is about time...
With so much talk about stories, games and interactivity, it is about time there is such a comprehensive book about the convergence of all these concepts.Andrew Glassner not only captures the present trends and experiments going on in these areas, but has presented an in-depth background and methodology of each. The advantage of this book is that it is from perspective of someone that has pioneered developments in each of these areas. His casual writing style allows us to enter the creative thought process evaluating such diverse examples and creative relationships.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exploring the convergence of Games and Stories
Lots of people have been thinking recently about the holy grail of computer games, that is the melding of good quality stories with fun computer games. On the surface, this seems like it should be easy, get some good writers together with some game programmers and voila, great things should result. This excellent book shows why things are not nearly as simple as they might appear to be.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brings interesting ideas into the mix
This book first gives an education in the elements of storytelling and in game design. Once this basis is established, the book then delves into the various issues and contradictions involved in the idea of interactive storytelling.
