My book for my review was called Hoot. Hoot is about a boy named Roy . Roy is the main character in the story. The author's name is Carl Hiaasen. I would recommend this book to girls because I have know some boy who have read this book and did not like it. Hoot is my favorite book. I have read it 7 times! I think this book is best for girls. Read this book--its good!
Roy Eberhart, Mullet Fingers, and Beatrice Leep are trying to save little baby owls and their existence from Mother Paula's all American Pancake House, Inc. They do a series of stuff to the construction site so they couldn't build the pancake house in Coconut Cove, Florida.Mother Paula's knows they are there, but they want the pancake house anyway. I recommend this to kids who like fiction and who are very adventurous people.

Loved it!
After reading the Midnighters trilogy I wanted to read more by Scott Westerfeld.Uglies was a great book.It takes place in the future.They try to prevent destruction like the people before them called "rusties" by making everyone beautiful when they turn 16.The rusties are basically us now, as I see it.All of Tally's friends have turned pretty, and she can't wait until it's her turn.All was going well until her new friend Shay runs away to a place called The Smoke to avoid being turned pretty.Tally thinks nothing of it, after all it was Shay's choice, until she is forced by Special Circumstances to find Shay and destroy The Smoke in order to be turned pretty.
great book
I am not going to summarize it, but Uglies was a great book. It reminded me a little of extreme cosmetic surgery people do to themselves. It also shows that you can be beautiful without surgery and makeup and stuff, and about how some people are too appalled by the "ugliness" of a person and can't see a nice human being standing three feet away. This was a great book, but I think it is more suitable for kids around 13-14.

Ugliesby Scott Westerfield is a great book filled with it's fair share of obstacles, misunderstandings, and plenty of close calls. This story is about a young girl named Tally Youngblood who can't wait to turn pretty. Tally lives in a very condensed and small town filled with tall buildings side by side everywhere. With tons of out-of-this-world gadgets the people living in Pretty Town and Uglyville are living a dream, or so they think. In Uglyville (where Tally lives) when an 'ugly' turns sixteen they get a surgery that transforms into a drop-dead gorgeous 'pretty'. 'Pretties' have big bright eyes, symmetrical faces, and perfectly proportioned bodies, far more stunning than any ugly like Tally. But her new friend Shay questions this system, and forces Tally to look at her perfect world in a whole new way.

By far, the worst in the series.
This installment is easily the weakest in the series. The writing is all over the place, and there is no central plot to drive the story. That being said, the book is still good. I've just come to expect more from this series.

It was great!
Harry Potter and The Order of the Pheonex was one of the best books i have ever read even though I am a huge Harry Potter fan. The book starts out by describing how the muggle prime minister and the minister of magic have to be connected. Harry is at home in the next chapter and Dumbledore comes to see him at the Durlseys and tells Harry how they would be having lessons the whole year, teaching Harry more about Voldemort's past and Harry learning how to kill Voldemort. The rest of the book plays up on the adventure that Dumbledore and Harry take together trying to kill part of Voldemorts soul, a Horcrux. When Harry and Dumbledore come home Dumbledore learns of how Draco Malfoy has been following Voldemort all year and Snape is also on the dark lord's side, seeing how he kills Dumbledore.

I loved this book because it kept you guessing and it was exciting.It was even better than all the others in my opinion.Harry was furious because he coudn't find out what Lord Voldemort was doing.This book is about stopping Voldemort and his horrible plans.The head of the ministry of magic has hired Professor Umbridge as the new defense against the Dark Arts teacher and the High Inquisitor of the school.Harry tries to help out other people by teaching defensive spells.I definitely recommend this book to people of all ages! ... Wonderful novels, and deeply spiritual
These novels are wonderful: an astonishing concept, utterly believable characters, great plot-lines, and beautifully written.

I cannot paraphrase the story in any way that would do it justice. Pullman is beyond me; the story was too rich, too powerful, too complex and subtle and ambitious, and it had to be to be equal to what I now sit here wishing I could convey to you.
A grand metaphysical journey with convincing characters and details
I just finished reading this grand trilogy to my kids, aged 8, 10, and 12.My wife ended up sitting in on almost the entire series, and all of us were riveted from Oxford to the World of the Dead and back again.These books are incredibly ambitious: they set out to stitch together a religio-political history of the multiverse with deep, informed reference to physics, religious history, adolescent psychology, Nietzschean heroism, etc. etc. etc.The result, as I read it, is one of the most compelling indictments of church and state ever written for a broad audience.Author Philip Pullman concludes, without didactic hamfistedness, that the first purpose of churches and governments is self-perpetuation through maintaining the ignorance of their adherents and citizens.The greatest wisdom and joy, in Pullman's worlds, comes of full, mortal, bodily engagement with the physical world per se: with domestic comforts, food, sex, art, aesthetic involvement, work well done, craft, cleverness, etc.The well-earned consciousness of a human adult, earned through Blakean experience, is the crowning moment of all creation.Antithetical to this wisdom and consciousness is dogmatic narowness, asceticism, monasticism, self-denial, narrowness of experience.

Neat Dictionary!
I am in high school and was in serious need of a decent dictionary.I didn't want to spend a fortune either.I saw this dictionary and gave it a try... I LOVE IT!Great pictures and nice quality.Very helpful! My friend ended up buying one also and enjoys it as much as I have. I highly recommend!

A must for any student library
My son is 10 and in fourth grade.We use this dictionary just about everyday for studying poetry.So far, every word we've looked up has been there and with enough explanation to really make sense.We looked up the word "tread" - there were several definitions (about 4 inches worth), but each gave a sentence for context, which helped him pick out the right definition to apply.We also looked up "limerick" - the definition given was complete in that it actually included the rhyming scheme used, which was not included in two other dictionaries we have.There are color pictures and the the writing is large enough for him to read.It was also very reasonably priced.We are very happy with this Dictionary; we liked it so much we bought the American Heritage Thesaurus to go with it!

I stayed up late last night reading my daughter's dictionary!
My six year old needed a dictionary to look up words for her Junior Great Books homework.At first, I was drawn to dictionaries written for 8-10 year olds.They had larger print and flashier, more colorful pictures.Unfortunately, they didn't do the job of providing definitions for the unfamiliar words we needed to define (this week we needed to find tun, puncheon, bewail, and beadle.)I was forced to look at dictionaries aimed at an older audience and found that many were just not visually appealing.I didn't want a bland reference book that would be opened as little as necessary.I wanted something worth flipping through on a rainy day.

it grew on me
When we first bought this book for my then two-year old daughter, I could barely get through it the first time.I didn't much like it.That's probably because I was so busy trying to say the words it, I couldn't pay attention to what was actually happening.Since then, the book has grown on me, and my now three-year old daughter loves it, as well.After reading the book aloud a gazillion times, I can now say it almost without getting my tongue twisted, and my favorite part is the ending, where Knox finally gets his "revenge" for what Fox has put him through.
Great book for reading readiness...

He WILL read this book.... but you should too
There's definitely no tip-toeing around in this book, which is exactly why boys will actually read it.Although I was a little shocked by the authors' candor at times, I also recognize the only way to really get through to adolescent boys is on their playing field.
Wish I Had this Growing Up...Every 13 year old Boy Needs this Book.
I purchased this book for my friends son who is 13 years old and before giving it to her I read through it myself. All of the information is very important (12+ years old) and can help educate young boys to make decisions based on knowledge they obtained before there is a problem rather than after, like what I went through when I was growing up and I'm sure countless others have that did not have the benefit and knowledge in this book.

The first third of this book contained good information for my 11-year-old son.It explains what happens to a boy's body in a way he was able to understand.The remainder of the book also has good information, but the topics of intercourse and STDs were more than my son was ready for. ... Read more

Although this book was around when many of today's parents wereyoungsters, it has remained a steadfast must-have in every toddler's library. For starters, it's a great vocabulary guide that names the many things that go (and some that haven't a prayer of going, but are great fun to imagine anyway). It's also teeming with detail-rich scenes and characters on every page, teaching children the rewards of looking long and closely (such as finding the hidden "Goldbug" in each spread). Along the way it entertains with the silly and slapstick--everything from toothpaste and toothbrush cars to six fire department vehicles that show up to extinguish a ladybug-size fire in a miniature pink convertible. What's most amazing about this book, however, is its longevity. When you purchase it for your fledgling talker, you should consider it an investment. Even 11-, 12-, and 13-year-olds are known to pore over the book nostalgically, cooing at Lowly Worm and eagerly tracking Officer Flossie's book-long chase after that irresponsible, speedster driver in a cowboy hat. A Scarry Classic
I first read this book to my daughter 22 years ago. It was her favorite, and alas it wore out. Searching to find Goldbug on each and every page was the most fun, and the verse was very entertaining as we did so. It helped teach her words, spelling and all about the different ways to get from here to there. I just reordered a copy to surprise her for Christmas, as she prepares to start her own family. I highly recommend this book by one of the most beloved children's authors.

Simply outstanding
I grew up with Richard Scarry books, including the now out-of-print "Busy Busy World."For some reason I had forgotten what a gem this is.Any child will delight in it, and for parents it is so nice to have a book that can be different every time you read it, as most of our books are read over, and over, and over.

Holes
This book is one of those books, that when you start reading it you don't want to put it down. First things first, the title of the book is Holes and the author just happens to be Louis Sachar. He is an amazing author. He has another book that is new, that also goes to the book Holes. It is called Small Steps. Let me tell you something, there are a lot of characters. We have Stanley Yelnats and he is the main character. He is walking home from school and gets hit in the head by these shoes and the cops come. He ends up going to Camp Green Lake to dig holes for his punishment. When he gets there he meets a whole bunch of people. The people he meets are Zero, Armpit, X-Ray, and Zig Zag. One person he does not like is Mr. Sir. That is how it all got started for Stanley. I really like this book, it is a terrific story. My favorite part is when Stanley steals the water truck and crashes into a hole. It is a wonderful book so I think it is appropriate for any age to read this book. This book is fiction but it could be nonfiction. Compared to other books this one is one of my favorites. It also has a lot of rewards such as the Newbery Award, the Rebecca Caudill Award, and last but not least the National Book Award. On a scale from one to ten I definitely rate this a ten.

NOT just for kids!
When my daughter's 5th grade teacher sent her home with this book, I picked it up FOR A SECONDto be sure it was "appropriate." The next thing I knew, it was 2 a.m., and I was entranced.This is a fantastic, many-layered book that will enthrall anyone who loves a good story, great writing, and magical story telling. Much better than the (really good) movie.

becoming a movie!!!
i really adored this book and the 3rd book is taking much to long to come out! I have heard that Mel Gibson recently picked up these books as a screen play. He is making a movie out of this! I for one, cannot wait to here more about it, but since the third isnt out yet, ill have to wait even longer.

one in a million
one of the best follow up books ever written.Lies, secrets, and friendship what else could you have in a story like this. The story will keep you dancing on your toes all the way through the book. If you have read the first book A Great and Terrible Beauty you will know that this book will be as good as the first.

An Excellent Sequel
Sequels are tricky and they're famous for not living up to an original- either the writer will try to rehash what was successful in the original, in which case the result is too often boring a second time around; or she'll attempt to take thestory into a different place and risks not being true to the initial characters and situations. Libba Bray does both- she brings her story forward while remaining true to what made the first novel good.

Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire are at Briny Beach one day when Mr. Poe, a friend of their parents, arrives to tell them that their house has burned down, and that their parents have died in the fire. They now have become orphans. The orphans live with Mr. Poe until he can find a guardian for them. He finally places them with their nearest relative, Count Olaf, who is either their third cousin four times remove.Count Olaf, a dirty man with one eyebrow, shiny eyes, and a tattoo of an eye on his ankle, turns out to be a greedy and mean actor who wants the huge Baudelaire fortune for himself. When he finds that he will not receive it, he treats the children poorly and forces them to do difficult chores for himself and his acting group.
Bad beginning but exciting story.
I read this book because a friend of mine recommended. In first part I was so bored that I almost slept. Then when I tried to sleep an exciting scene came out. It was a eye-opener. It was about that Count Olaf was yelling at Baudelaires. They cooked, but olaf hated it. In first part I thought that olaf was a good man. That's why it woke me up. Another thing is that the pictures seemed very good and real. Even though they were black and white I liked it.

A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket is a great, yet surprising book. In this book, there are three children named Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire. They are the main characters, or the protagonists. Violet, the oldest likes to invent and build thing, she is very smart. Klaus, who is the middle child is also very smart and likes to examine creatures in tide pools and also likes to read. Sunny, who is only an infant loves to bite anything she can get her hands on. The problem starts out, when they figure out their house has burned down, and their parents have died. The Baudelaire family is very wealthy and they lived in a mansion with a huge library. Violet, Klaus and sunny have to stay at Mr. Poe's house, who is a very good friend of their parents. The children decide they do not like it there and learn that they are leaving and staying with their distant relative named Count Olaf. Count Olaf is the enemy or the antagonist in this story, who they have never heard of. When they arrive at his house, it looked very strange and bent out of shape. Also when they met him he acted very weird as if he was hiding something. He made them do all of the chores and make dinner for him and for when all his friends come over to rehearse lines for their play. They children started getting suspicious, when Count Olaf slaps Klaus on the face and one of his friends mention he should try to steal their fortune. The children try to tell Mr. Poe, but he does not believe that Count olaf would do such a thing. Since he won't believe them, they do a little research and find out that you can only get someone's fortune by marriage. Not to long after, Count Olaf suggests that they should be in a play with him, and violet would be the bride, and Klaus and Sunny would work backstage. Now I can't tell what happens next, so you will just have to read this book, put together the clues, and figure it out for yourself. I suggest this book, because I thought it was very good, and I was never bored. I actually read it in one day. my daughters and I really enjoy this book!
We`ve had this book for over 3 years now, and my 5 year old daughter, loves to look at it over and over again, and beleive me, everytime we read it, a different story develops or we discover something we had`t seen before. Now I have started reading it with my 2 year old, and she too is facinated by it, it has helped her with her vocabulary.

WOW.This is a very unique, wordless picture book that can be used for presenting the strategy of teaching students how to include details in writing by expanding ideas.

The friend who shared this book with me had received it from a family member who bequeathed it to her as she lay dying of cancer. Dr. Seuss is great...
The other review complaining about how it is shortened is just silly. Yes, the original is longer and my toddler finds it more entertaining- but when we first got this board book, ds wanted to read it several times a day. He still likes it read to him. It is perfect to start babies off on Dr. Seuss.

Lovingly reconfigured for tiny tots just learning to enjoy books!
Yes, this is an abridged version. But it's not mutilated. The abridgement was done very sensitively, and if you didn't know better, you'd think it was just as Dr Seuss wrote it. It really captures his joyful "voice" and his distinctive lilting rhymes.

My [...] could not put it down!
Both "The Sea of Monsters" as well as the first book in the series, "The Lightning Thief" were fantastic books that my eleven-year old son could not put down.He tends to be very critical about books but this series is a new favorite.He is recommending these books to friends and is looking forward to Riordan's next edition. "The Sea of Monsters" has also peaked his interest in mythology. I recommend you try this series if you want to inspire your child's interest in reading.

A MUST READ!!!RIORDAN DOES IT AGAIN!!!
I bought Lightning Thief on a whim from a school book fair (I have always been a mythology lover so it looked intriguing). What an understatement!!!I started to read this book and couldn't put it down.It left me wanting more and voila... Sea of Monsters was available.I got the book immediately and read it just as fast as the first.I keep checking online, waiting for the next book.

We Like Toes, Ears, and Nose Better
These two books - Where Is Baby's Belly Button and Toes, Ears, and Nose are so similar, you only need one of them. And my boys prefer Toes, Ears, and Nose. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's because more body parts are discussed.

My two year old son likes this book, but it would be even better for a younger child.It will be passed down to his baby brother.

Loads of Fun for Toddlers!
My 16 month old daughter is not overly excited by most books and loses intrest quickly, but she loves this book and can play with it for an hour. She loves to bring it to us to read with her, and she loves lifting the flaps and she giggles at her accomlishment of showing us where "baby's belly button/eyes/hands etc" are.
