5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite book to read to my kids
It's fun to read! Great graphics, easy flow, great funny story! It's our alltime favorite. We read it all year round too. Some books they want me to read to them are not much fun for me to read even though they love it, but this one I can't resist! I would recommend it again and again, and will never get rid of this book - even when my kids are grown.

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Halloween Treat!
I have a 3 year old who is just a nut about Halloween and pumpkins. This book is just the perfect story for him and he loves it year round...so far. It's the story of a witch who grows an absolutely huge pumpkin. But the Pumpkin is so big that she cannot get it off the vine and moved. She enlists the aid of similar denizens of the night including a ghost, vampire, mummy, and a bat but none of them can get the Pumpkin moved...until they figure out it takes teamwork and cooperation to get the job done.A truly hilarious story that teachs kids about cooperation. The book is spooky, but never scary. The illustrations are colorful and bold and attractive to especially younger kids.Erica Silverman has made a delightful book that is simply too good to be read only at Halloween time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just a seasonal read
I don't know how we got this book, but what a treasure. My daughter loves the rythym and build of this book. The characters build upon each others' attempt to pluck a witch's pumpkin from her vine. It features the witch, a vampire, a mummy and a bat. They are all non-threatening as the goal is to make and eat a pumkin pie.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Breath of Fancy Fresh Air!
Fancy Nancy loves fancy clothes and knows fancy words. When she decides to teach her family how to be fancy, the results are comical. How will her family help when she falls on her face on her big night?
5-0 out of 5 stars Completely and utterly charming!:5++
After running across Fancy Nancy while surfing amazon.com, I went to Borders Bookstore to see it in the flesh and was instantly captivated. It's a good-sized picture book with the most remarkable illustrations imaginable! There's even glitter incorporated into the book's cover. Having a "fancy nancy" granddaughter who turns five later this month, it will make the perfect gift (and if I ever need an illustrator I'm calling on Robin Priess Glasser!!).

Editorial Review

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'lllove you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels. 4-0 out of 5 stars love you forever
I found i love you forever to be a very true tale of a mothers love. Throughout the story the boy goes throught lifes many changes and phases, continuely disobeying his mothers wishes only to find himself in his mother arms everynight, as she recites the same poem expressing her unconditional love. At storys end the tables turn and a heartwarming turn of events is expressed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sweet message, but not our favorite
This book really does have a nice message about unconditional love that a parent has for a child. For that I give it major kudos. On the other hand it is a bit sappy and maudlin for my taste.I agree that the mom showing up at the son's house is a bit strange, but it is a children's book. It's not supposed to be entirely realistic.I think (hope) that part is supposed to be more symbolic.I think the illustrations in this book are so-so and pretty uninspiring. However, it really is a sweet story and there's no harm in having this in your collection of kids books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tear for tear, it is a beauty
This book is the most amazing children's book in existence. It is the epitome of what every parent in the world feels for their child(ren). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars practical qnd classroom friendly
This book is a wonderful resource book for any Language Arts teacher. The key to successfully using it is to find out what the child needs to learn to do to become a better reader. Then Mrs. Beers has listed what to do, and even shows how it has worked with real students.I know the activities could be used with first graders and on up.I taught Reading Recovery for ten years and have studied struggling readers for forty years, and I know these resources will work.I also like the authors she used to gather her research. She didn't just research through books, but also practiced these herself.Mrs. Beers has included places for busy teachers to go easily to find the materials to use.All Language Arts teachers shoud use this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Book but Rips Apart QUICKLY- NOT DESIGNED FOR TODDLERS!
My Son loves these books. However, the flaps rip off very easily. He really misses these books! Without a lot of effort or very aggressive "lifting", these flaps on several of Karen Katz's books ripped right off.
4-0 out of 5 stars Flap books always a favorite
The children seemed to enjoy the reading of this book. They were especially taken by finding the surprises under each flap. If there were one detail I might change would be to make the word under the flap more easily visible without having to fold the flap all the way back. It doesn't lay flat again after that.We read the book again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Warm and wonderful
This book brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it.It is warm and comforting.A wonderful message for children that their mama will always be there no matter what...

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but okay
I feel like I am supposed to love this book since it is by the same author of the beloved "Goodnight Moon", but I don't and neither does my child. The illustrations are a bit bland and the story is unremarkable. It also lacks the rhythm of "Goodnight Moon".As a result it just doesn't seem to keep my child's attention. On one hand the message of a mom's unconditional love is rather sweet, but the way she goes about it is borderline creepy.By following her unwilling child all over the world she has the potential of appearing more obsessive and domineering than pleasant and caring. In the end, however, the book is harmless and many people seem to think it's a very charming book.I would just recommend giving it a quick read in the book store before you purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Love And Devotion
I love the runaway bunny and my kids love the runaway bunny. It makes us laugh, brings us closer together, and helps reinforce the most important lesson my children can learn "A Mother's Love has no limits." We laughed at the young bunny's frustration, marveled at the mother bunny's persistence, and discussed the love and commitment that strengthens our own family. The Runaway Bunny has been a useful tool in reinforcing my dedication to my children. As young children enjoyed the pictures. It's small and simple, but the lesson is profound. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites!
This book has all the best qualities of children's books:Children like to hear it, parents like to read it, and both can discuss it afterwards.Very positive, useful life lessons packaged effectively and attractively for the grade school and younger crowd. And who couldn't fall in love with big, soft-looking Stillwater and his "slight panda accent"?

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Absolute Best Book Available in America Today
This book is extremely well thought out. The problems range from very accessible to very challenging. The book is thorough and teaches Geometry in the way that it should be taught, with a rich mathematical foundation and many opportunities for students of all abilities to learn to think criticlly. The Teachers' resource materials are excellent. There are two sets of tests, one more accessible and one more challenging. The Reteaching and Practice resource is an excellent source of class work handouts. To me this book is just as fine as the Algebra 1 book from the same series. To the best of my knowledge, this is the best book currently available in the United States. Students who are lucky enough to use this book, will be well prepared for standardized testing. ... Read more

Editorial Review

According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnnykills a soc. The murder gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels thesame whether a soc or a greaser. This classic, written by S. E. Hinton when she was 16 years old, is as profound today as it was when it was first published in 1967. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars my inspiration...
When I had to read THE OUTSIDERS in seventh grade, at first I was just like whatever because I thought it was going to be another boring book we had to read and why can't we ever get good books to read? But from the first chapter, that was it. I fell so hard I still haven't gotten up.
4-0 out of 5 stars Battle Against The Socs - A Review By Izzy, age 11
A boy named Ponyboy, and his two brothers, Sodapop and Derry, turn into hoodlums when their parents die in a car crash. They join a group of hoods: Johnny, 2-Bit, Steve and Dally. They are in a battle against the Socs, who are spoiled and very rich. The Socs always jump the hoods (Greasers) when they are alone. They all have parts to play: Dally is the tough guy, 2-Bit is known for his switchblade, Steve is known to mess around a lot, Sodapop comforts people, Johnny is the pet of the gang, and Ponyboy is the youngest at the age of fourteen. There are two other gangs of greasers.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best books to help your child start to read!
I borrowed these books from the library for my daughter who's only 3 years old (soon to be 4).She loved them so much that I bought them for her when I had to return the library's copies. She can read the first 3 books on her own and asks to read them almost every night. She's very proud of herself when she's read through each book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great books - - - that I didn't think I would need.
I saw these books a few years ago and figured they were too easy, but I was running into a problem. I could not get my (then 5 year old) little girl to read books. She was reading all of her lessons with little if any trouble, but when I would try to get her to read the same words in a book she wanted nothing to do with it. I set these books in front of her and she read all 12. They didn't help her to learn to read, but they were a great help in getting her to read and to enjoy reading.

Editorial Review

This timeless Dr. Seuss classic was first published in 1960, and has been delighting readers ever since. Sam-I-am is as persistent as a telemarketer, changing as many variables as possible in the hopes of convincing the nameless skeptic that green eggs and ham are a delicacy to be savored. He tries every manner of presentation with this "nouveau cuisine"--in a house, with a mouse, in a box, with a fox, with a goat, on a boat--to no avail. Then finally, Read more

The book of green eggs and ham teaches us all a valued lesson on never judgeing a book by it's cover. Even though the main character tries to convince himself of not trying green eggs and ham, when he finally does he actually really likes it. This being a perfect example of not being prejudice.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Unsatisfying Ending
I absolutely loved this book, but I found that the ending was very unsatisfying. It seemed to end so suddenly and not even one of the characters seemed to have a pleasing ending.A sequel might clear up the somewhat confusing ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful book
It has everything: suspense, mystery, lots of humor, heros. The children are interesting and thoughtful, have great depth. This is no sentimental schlock. One of the best children's books I've read in a long time. Our family anxiously awaits Ms. Birdsall's next book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Books I have Ever Read!!
This book is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. Every page that I read drew me in deeper to want to know what happens next. But if you haven't read the first book, well, you just have to. They are both amazing books and if you are an avid reader this is the right book for you. Because I know I am an avid reader and it was the best book of my life! So if you haven't read it, read it. Because It is so interesting that you won't stop thinking about it until you finish it. I know I am only 11 years old, but this book is really good. Whether you are 13 yrs old or 56 yrs old, it's the book for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This is a very good children's novel. It is easy to read and moves along quickly to keep the attention. The story is enchanting and very sweet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting
The story of a family which can never die or get hurt known as the Tucks. A classic love story between living forever for love or living life normal. Which would you choose? The main character Winnie Foster is caught between her new love, Jessie, which belongs to the Tuck family. Now the Tuck family is a very strange family which kept there life as a secret by moving to different place every once in a while. The story goes on and at the end Winnie is either to choose Jessie and drink from the fountain of youth or go on living and move on. Jessie did not want her to drink from it but she loved him and said she would do anything. The setting takes place in a old town called Treegap, which was very small and secluded from the outside world. I would say the genre of this book is a love and fantasy. The book has 139 pages and you cannot stop until you hit that blank page at the end of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every August, my thoughts turn to Tuck Everlasting
The opening of TUCK EVERLASTING is one of the best beginnings of any book I've ever read, includingmany of the classics. Whatever this book my lack in character development, it makes up for ten-fold in theme. This book and its concepts are ageless andhaunting. The best stories in life are often told as a parable, and TUCK EVERLASTING delivers. It is not a plot driven book or even a character driven book, it is question driven book...Do you choose life? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Owns a piece of my soul
I read the book for the first time when I was 9 years old. I dig it out every few years and re read it. To this day it still has the power to reduce me to tears.
4-0 out of 5 stars A portrait of friendship
Published in the 70's, this book was an instant children's classic in American literature. This book deals with the friendship of a boy, Jesse, and a girl, Leslie, both of whom are social outcasts.Coming from different families and upbringings, they form a friendship that bears the strain of tragedy. This reviewer read this book while in elementary school; but revisited it once I heard that a movie was being made about it.The book is very good, and is great for children to read in today's culture where intergender relationships are often characterized in terms of sex.I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sad, yet beautiful
One of my favorite parts of parenting is rediscovering wonderful children's literature with my daughters. I had heard of this book but never read it, so when my daughter chose it for a book report I seized the opportunity to read an award-winning book that I had neglected.
