5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Soon to be Big Brothers!
My son is just barely 6 and will be a big brother in about 3 weeks.I got this book to help prepare him for the arrival of his baby sister and it was a great purchase. It has helped him understand that the baby will be pretty helpless for a while, and that he can help with the baby.It also talks about how great it is to be the "big kid". It is a simple book that doesn't have a lot of pages. It would definitely be appropriate for younger children.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute -- not memorable.
Great pictures. Just an average book. It is written from the point of view of once the baby is home. At any rate, it helps get your child ready for the coming arrival.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great teaching tool!
My 21-month-old son loved this book while I was pregnant. When the baby was born, he quoted the book to us many times, going over and over what babies can and cannot do. "Can't walk, can't talk, can't play toys...can drink milk, can sleep, can cry."I think it really helped him with a difficult adjustment, and gave him the reassurance that Mommy and Daddy love him still, even though there was a new baby to love, too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good for families who are adopting
My husband and I are adopting a baby boy. I have been trying to find a 'Big Sister' book for our daughter, but so many of them are about mom being pregnant and giving birth to the new sibling. Thisbook is the only one I have seen that is suitable for both situations (adoption or giving birth). The story itself is simple, but very sweet and reassuring for the older child. My daughter absolutely loves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite of 2-yr-old big sister
Our daughter was given this book a few months before her baby sister arrived. She liked it alot pre-sis and still requests it now that li'l sis is here. Upon receiving it, I didn't think much of it (not a "cool", super-aesthetically pleasing cover), but my daughter really liked it.The book always refers to "our baby" so that it works expecting boy or girl.I really appreciated the intro to what baby will be like - my daughter thus was able to enthusiastically spout some facts (slightly altered/added by us) about baby before she arrived - "Baby cry alot.Baby poop alot.Baby sleep in crib."As for the book baby being bottle-fed, I just told our daughter that our baby would nurse (fortunately we had friends that were nursing so she could see what it was versus me explaining it ;). Overall - I'm ordering the book for my sister-in-law who's expecting her second.

1-0 out of 5 stars Way too mainstream.
My mother bought this book for my daughter, and I absolutely detested in.My daughter was confused as well, as to why everything was "wrong," especially with the bottlefeeding.I know most women give up quickly on breastfeeding, but couldn't the author even pretend that some women breastfeed? And of course the baby is always in a stroller or bouncy seat, sleeps in a crib, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Way to Prepare an Older Sibling!
I bought this book for a friend that's pregnant and has a little boy that will be 3 when new baby comes.I looked thru the book when I got it and loved the idea of no words. This way they can fit their wording into their lifestyle that best fits them. They can put in their own names and family names and all with this book along with gender.I love the whole book especially the end where the parents along with the bigger sibling tuck the baby into bed. Then, the parents have their night time reading with the bigger sibling who can stay up later! In my house, that is definitely how it works!!It makes my 4 year old feel big and prevents jealousy!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!
And so does my two-year old son!It shows all the things that will happen with the baby and his big brother (my chosen genders). It even shows mom nursing which is a very big part of newborn life and I'm glad the author addresses it!And dad changes diapers too.I really like both of the books in this series and we got them both. They are favorites in this house!

5-0 out of 5 stars My 17 month-old loves this book, and so do I
My daughter particularly enjoys looking at books with pictures but no words right now: I tell the story and we discuss the pictures. She brings me this book and says, "Baby!"She really enjoys pointing to the baby and pointing out other objects in each picture (bunny, ball, snake doll, frog doll, bathtub, duck, etc.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Pull Up a Chair
This is a wonderful story with delightful illustrations about a young boy who is feeling displaced because he has a baby sister on the way.He is upset to see his old layette painted pink for baby Susie and his infant toys passed down to her.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of Ezra Jack Keats Best Books
I don't know what ken32 is talking about but Peter's Chair has nothing to do with gender difference. It is about a boy, Peter, who is disgruntled at the change that is occuring around the house for his new baby sister Susie. Peter sees that his baby items are being painted over in pink, which is the color that will identify if the baby is going to be a girl. Babies don't care what color their furniture is.
5-0 out of 5 stars We Loved This Story!
This story is about Peter who has a new baby sister. He is very jealous and doesn't want to share his things. Peter finally gives her his old chair that is too small for him. We liked this story because Peter learns to be a good big brother. You should read this story because the pictures are really nice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Preparing for Baby Book we found!
This is a great book and a favorite with my two year-old.I was worried since it has no words, but we spend far more time on this book because of that.He notices all the little things and reminds me of when we did that too!And I love that mom takes a break and dad makes dinner- this book fits in well at our house!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not happy that it was pictures only
I was not aware that this book was illustrations only.My 3 yr old was looking forward to me 'reading' this book about the new baby to him, and he was not happy that there were no words!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for preparation of a young one
This book is a perfect tool for teaching my 22 month old about the upcoming arrival. With very descriptive pictures, he can understand what's happening.Yet, because there are no words, I can narrate to suit his learning ability. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Briana's Gift
Thirteen-year-old Susanna (Sissy to her family) hasn't had much luck with the month of December. When she was six, her dad died in a horrible accident at work. At eight, her mother was diagnosed with a debilitating arthritis. And most recently, her spirited older sister, Briana, decides to run off to Los Angeles with her boyfriend. So this year's December is a depressing one as well. Briana sends postcards at first, but all too soon, there's no word at all. Sissy depends on her best friends, Melody and Stu, to help her through the lonely days of missing her sister, and practicing her flute helps pass the time as well. Somehow, life goes on.

Great illustrations for kids, high interest level A wonderful way to help introduce a soon to be new sibling to the family!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonerful
I bought this book for my daughter, Morgann-3, since we are having a new baby.We have read it over and over and over. She never fails to ask a new question everytime we read it.It is a wonderful book to get ready for a new baby and how God works his wonderful power. The only thing is now she wants two babies instead of one!:)

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I bought this thinking it would be a good book for making the first child feel special once there was a second child. While I love God gave us you, this story is a bit confusing mathwise as it is God gave us two yet they end up having twins so it is really God gave us three. Unless you know you are having twins don't bother. Too confusing for the age group it is intended for. For a good book on the same theme with less confusion try "All my favorites." There are three bears in that one but it makes sense. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Worst Case Scenario Picture Book
So there you are, three kids alone in a lovely apartment in the city. What could possibly go wrong?Plenty! Especially when the alligator from the sewers decides to invade your home! This delightful funny/scary picture book is a welcome addition to my read aloud favorites.
5-0 out of 5 stars And do the children love it? You bet they do!
Checked 'Snip Snap' out of our local library and the kids loved it so much that I had to order one of our own. I have a 5 year old and a young 2 year old, and they both love it. The second I am done reading they emplore, "Again!" As a parent I appreciate the empathetic handling of fear and the way the children stand up to the aligator together. The illustrations are lively and humorous. I have given it as a gift already, and will again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful big sibling present
This is a very special activity book for new big siblings, with places for information about themselves as well as the new baby.Published for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it is visually terrific of course; but it is also thoughtfully composed, with interesting questions and fun observations. This has been our family's favorite sibling gift since our older son received one on his brother's birth 18 1/2 years ago!We all still enjoy his comments, drawings and stories on becoming a big brother!

2-0 out of 5 stars At first good, but then.....
At first the book is good. After that the book gets a little dumb.I mean c'mon at frist she deosn't like him but when their cousin talks sqwot about him she tries to defend him and make her say ''Julluis is the baby of the world''.Witch was really dumb and odd. Also it uses unkind words like ''hate''.Get Chester's Way instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars NO more Julius!!!
"Julius is the baby of the world." Everyone loved the new baby in the house except for Lilly. It is hard when a new person takes away the attention that you are used to having. This is how Lilly felt towards her new brother. Throughout the book, Lilly tortures her brother by trying to get rid of him and calling him names. Her parents explain to her that he is going to be around forever and Lilly is unhappy. Lilly is determined to be the queen of the house and not get to know Julius. Not until a party that Lilly's parents through for Julius does Lilly have a change of heart. When her cousin Garland decideds that Julius is not great, Lilly stands up for her baby brother. This story has a happy ending and an experience that many of us have gone through. Once again, Kevin Henkes gives us another mouse book filled with emotion and color in every character and every page.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Author
My 4 year old asked to buy this with her allowance. We'd checked it out previously from the library. She has a love/hate thing going with her almost 2 year old brother and she really relates to Lilly. I love that they learn to get along at the end! 3-0 out of 5 stars More perfect than the moon
This book was not my favorite book in the world but i definitely learned from it. I learned that people can change. I learned that you should't ddoubt someone when you don't know the details. I would recomend this book to people who like realistic books.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'More Perfect than the Moon' is a perfect read
Author Patricia MacLachlan, most famous for "Sarah, Plain and Tall," invites us back to re-visit the Witting family in "More Perfect than the Moon."Mother Sarah is pregnant in "More Perfect than the Moon," much to youngest daughter Cassie's chagrin.Cassie chronicles her feelings and emotions about the upcoming arrival of the 'terrible baby' in a private journal she keeps.Cassie's private journal entries are sometimes true happenings around the Witting farm.Other times, the entries are what Cassie wishes would happen.Either way, the entries had me smiling and laughing out loud.MacLachlan holds true to her typical writing style and shows us that change is inevitable and made bearable by the love of family.Another heart-warming, laugh-out-loud, easy read by MacLachlan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A STELLAR READING
Versatile and always impressive actress Glenn close surely merits all the accolades and awards she has received (4 Oscar nominations, 3 Tony Awards, 1 Emmy Award, and 3 Grammy nominations).Few will forget her over the top performance in Fatal Attraction then a remarkable switch of gears to 101 Dalmatians. She uses her considerable gifts to vivify the narrator in this, the fourth installment in the Sarah Plain and Tall stories.

Who can resist a Henkes book? Move over Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse and Julius the Baby of the World...another book by Henkes which is surely destined to be a children's classic has arrived!
5-0 out of 5 stars A board book with a story
Most board books are descriptive- 'Cow says moo...Sheep says baa..etc.'.But this one has a storyline, amusing and cleverly constructed characters, and very expressive illustrations. It is amazing that this kind of a story has been made to fit in a board book format.
5-0 out of 5 stars Grandma/teacher says Kevin Henkes and "Shela Rae" can't be beaten
If you haven't met Kevin Henkes or his little mice characters, you and your child (or your grandchild) are missing a great experience. In this book, Sheila Rae has a peppermint stick that she's having a hard time sharing. The illustrations are delightful, and the situations in all of Henkes' books are true to life, so any child can relate and learn something without a bit of sermonizing. If you like this story, try "Owen's Marshmallow Chick" and "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse". Don't miss the expression in his characters' eyes as you flip through the books. Your little ones will love reading and rereading them. The board books are just right for the tiniest hands. My one-year old grandson, three-year old granddaughter, and the students in my reading classes are all Kevin Henkes fans. If you have a chance to meet him, grab the opportunity. He's a shy, gifted author and illustrator. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book when a new baby comes
We got this book when our second child was born.I think it has helped our older child cope with the loss of attention. He can understand that even though he has to share his parents now, it's not because we don't love him anymore or that the baby is our favorite. It's a fabulous book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A gentle story of love and favoritism
Anita Teram's lovely drawings are a winning addition to Sam McBratney's moving story of a Mommy Bear and father who tell their cubs that each is the best baby bear. But the siblings are growing and question how they ALL could be favorites of their parents. You're All My Favorites is gentle story of love and favoritism evolves with a simple, warming message.
5-0 out of 5 stars We love this book!
This book is a wonderful explanation if you have more than one child at how they can be completely different but they are all special and loved. It shows that no matter if they are a boy or girl or have different features they are all loved unconditionally. I love this book and so do my girls ages 4 and 2. highly recommend! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Babyish
I thought it would be more like I Feel Silly which it is not. Very babyish - one line sentences. I think the illustrations are not as clear as other books and looks like a mish-mash of colors. My just 5 year old is not interested in it.

This is a really good book and it is good for little kids because they might remember when they was little
5-0 out of 5 stars When I Was Little a Four-Year-Olds Memoir of Her Life
This book tells about a four-year-old who reflects on her childhood and tells how silly she thought she was. The illustrations are great, they really give you a good picture about what you are reading, without them you wouldn't understand the story as well. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Max is an irresistibly cute but persistent little bunny who wants whathe wants when he wants it--any parent with an active toddler will relate. And like most little kids, Max thinks the grass is always greener on the other side; to be more precise, he's sure the toy someone else is playing with is much more interesting. Max's interaction du jour is with his older sister, Ruby, who has a particularly attractive doll. Of course, Max wants that doll and will go to any lengths to get it. Who do you think will win this one? A funny tale of how children give and take in play, Read more

Max wants Ruby's doll, Emily, but Ruby will not part with her.Max has a house with 2 chimneys, 3 soldiers, 4 bears, etc. but all he wants is Emily.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This a good book for any child of all ages to read. I am only 15 and I love Max. I watch the show whenever I can. I am proof that you can never be too old for things that are considered to be only for children. Parents or relatives that have or know a child, this is a very good book that is funny and has good pictures. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Discussing Sibling's Feelings Toward the New Baby
The New Baby at Your House is a book that prepares a sibling for all of the ups and downs of having a new baby in the house. With vivid full-color photographs, this book takes a child from a mother's pregnancy, to the first visit to see the baby in the hospital, to the arrival of the baby at home, and all of the new experiences thereafter. It's a great book for discussing the many feelings that a sibling will have toward his or her new brother or sister.I highly recommend this book for all parents to share with children who are preparing for the arrival of a new baby.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for upset siblings
I read this book many many times to my children as they expected new siblings (we have three kids). Now I am buying it for my nephew. The reason this book is different from other "New Baby" books is that it gives young children a voice for the often strong negative feelings of having a new sibling.Young kids, preschoolers and younger, can't put words to their emotions. This book shows young children who are angry at their new baby brother or sister, feel they are being abandoned by their parents, feel ignored, feel they don't get any attention anymore, can't stand the sound of crying, hate the smell of diapers that need changing, and more.Your child may not tell you he/she feels these things, but believe me, they all do.5-0 out of 5 stars Exceelent book
We bought this for our daughter (along with the author's book "I'm going to be a big sister") and our daughter loves it.She loves looking at the photos of older siblings interacting with their newborn siblings. In fact, our daughter already wants to be involved with changing the diaper and giving baths.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Children can definately identify...
What child doesn't have a hard time waiting for something special -- especially a new little baby. This book takes you through the mind of a young boy. He is tired of waiting and tries different ways of making the time go by. I love the typical childlike way he tries to wait... I love that my sons eyes got wide as he identified with the little boy. I plan on giving this as a gift to friends who are expecting another child. Very cute!

5-0 out of 5 stars Our new favorite book
We checked this book out from the library during my pregnancy. The baby is 2 months old and we are just returning the book now. My older girls love this book. The baby was overdue, just like in the story so they could really identify. My two year old almost know s the book by heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent.Fun!
This was a great tool for my son.He was 3 when we were expecting, and this book really got him involved. After two years, he still sings the chicken song from it.We ordered many big brother books for him, and this one was the only one he was interested in.Wanted it read every night.Once he got into the book, he couldn't wait for his little sister to arrive.I highly recommend. In fact, this is the second one I have purchased as a gift. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Autism From a Historical Perspective
This story opens in June of 1987 with the then 85-year-old Katy relating her girlhood at the turn of the 20th century.
3-0 out of 5 stars This book was pretty good
I think that The Silent boy was alright. I liked the story and all of the charcters. I didn't like how it was a slow build up though. I think the beginning was kind of boring and could have been better, the ending was good though. I think this book would be good for older teens maybe around 15 or 16. Overall it was a well written book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Why did she have to tell the story THAT way?
I have been a fan of Lois Lowry's books for years, and have appreciated some of the other ways she has handled disability before. That is why I had trouble with how she handled it in this book.
