5-0 out of 5 stars The Miracle ofyour Child's Birth will Stir Your World
I know that some reviewers feel that this book is exaggerated, unrealistic and that it gives a false perception to children that they are more special than they actually are, but you know what? I don't care. I read the good and bad reviews before ordering it and decided to go ahead anyway. I'm glad I did! The coming of my child may not have stirred anyone else's world but it sure stirred my husband's and mine. When I looked into his beautiful little eyes mine couldn't stop running, and when his little face touched my cheek my heart skipped a beat.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, true and spiritual
On the day you were born, the universe rose up to greet you. Share the awe and wonder of life with your precious one. A simple expression of profound truth. A beautiful birthday gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gift
I have given this book to many new parents, and with all due respect to the reviewer below, not one has observed that it wasn't realistic. This book is poetry, not geography, not climatology, not anthropology.POETRY...And what's wrong with the idea of a super-happy planet rejoicing at the birth of every new baby? That's how it should be.I applaud the author for dreaming big. This gift will be well received.Don't hesitate. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for toddlers
I read this book to my toddler when he started hitting and then reinforcing it by saying hands are not for hitting when ever he would hit.It really worked - he loved doing some of the fun things that hands are good for as we read along.I liked it that it focused on positive things to do with your hands while still enforcing that hitting is not what hands are for.Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
shows many ideas of what hands can be used for and they are not for hitting.

2-0 out of 5 stars It depend on what you are looking for .....
This is a great book, if you want your child to think of all kinds of great things you can do with your hands.

Editorial Review

Parents will be quick to jump to the conclusion that there can benothing appealing in a tale of an ugly kid who breaks things. And certainly--from that adult perspective--there's something off-putting about the illustrations of David, with his potato head, feral eyes, and a maniacal grin that exposes ferociously pointed teeth. But 3- and 4-year-olds see things differently, and will find his relentless badness both funny and liberating."No, David," wails the off-stage mother, as David reaches for the cookie jar. "No! No! No!" as he makes a swamp out of the bathroom. "Come back here, David!" as he runs naked down the street. Each vivid double-page illustration is devoted to a different youthful indiscretion and a different vain parental plea. Readers will be amused to know that the protagonist's name is no accident: award-winning writer-illustrator David Shannon wrote the book after discovering a similar effort that he had made, again with himself at the center of each drawing, at the age of 5. 5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, David, I love you
I don't know why my sixteen-month old daugter loves this book.Perhaps it's the repetition, or illustrations, or the emphasis with which the phrases are read.I DO know that she now has an insatiable interest in books, uses the word 'no' appropriately, and anticipates the resolution at the end of this and "David Gets in Trouble."
5-0 out of 5 stars It makes my kids laugh with delight, that makes it a five for me
Some reviewers take this stuff way too seriously! The book is hilarious, my kids giggle everytime they read it.And, my three year old can read it, which makes her feel great.David isn't evil, I don't see him portrayed as evil, and if he is, my kids are evil also because lord knows they have done almost everything in there themselves, the lesson is that we love and adore our kids even if they are misbehaving!

5-0 out of 5 stars kids LOVE it
I didn't really get this book at first since there is little writing and just these big, somewhat scary illustrations.Just goes to show you that children's books are FOR CHILDREN, because my kids, 4 and 2, LOVE David. They scream and giggle when they see the bad things he's doing, and throughout the day they will "remind" themselves not to do something "bad like David."They can look at the illustrations and create whole stories out of one page.I think that is what the beauty of the book is truly about. As I started reading it with them, I became charmed by the crude, simple drawings, and just how expressive David is, even though he's not more than a stick figure. The first time we read it, I just read the words on each page.I had to explain one or two pictures, but they completely got the ending themselves. The very next time, I asked them what they thought was going on in each picture and they went crazy telling me all about the things David was doing, and why that's not allowed and what he should be doing instead! They truly never tire of this story, and I wouldn't have guessed that at all when I first picked this title up.Contrary to what some other reviewers said, David doesn't inspire bad behavior or copycat actions. That's the whole point of reading it with them.I don't think some of the other books in the series are as inspired as this first one, but that may just be because I was spoiled by how much we all love this one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A good start in addressing bullying and social skills problems
I use this book as a read-aloud with my first grade students. The illustrations are great, and the book is right at their level. It is a fun way to show good and poor social behavior, and my students ask me to read it again and again. It helps them internalize what it takes to make friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Super Lesson for Preschoolers
I have a little girl who is nearly four and learning to read. She also has trouble, sometimes, with sharing, as do most little girls her age. This book provides her with great lessons about sharing, being a friend, and why other kids don't like it when you're not nice to them. It's a super lesson for a preschooler.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gets the point across
This is a wonderful book that gently explains to children in a humorous fashion - how to be a friend and how to have friends.I love it - as does my 5 year old daughter. We checked it out at the library and thought it was so wonderful, I ordered a copy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Secret Knowledge of Grown-Ups
What a great book! My children enjoyed reading this book together, we all laughed out loud at the revelations of adults "Secret Knowledge!" Sure to delight grown-ups and children alike!

4-0 out of 5 stars Top Secret Files Revealed!
An adult has done the unthinkable! Broken the secret adult pact and published confidential files telling kids the truth about various rules we adults have passed onto them under the misconception that these rules were for their own good.David Wisniewski reveals the truth that the real reason we eat vegetables is to keep them in their place so they do not take over the world and eat us, instead of the lies we tell that vegetables are good for you.Other secrets he reveals include the reason why grown ups say drink plenty of milk, that combing your hair is not to keep it neat, why you shouldn't blow bubbles in your milk, why you shouldn't play with your food, why you shouldn't jump on your bed, why you shouldn't bite your fingernails and why you shouldn't pick your nose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book-
When my son was approaching his 12th birthday, he was forgetting the good manners he had before - everything was a "joke" for him, however, I was afraid he could be offending people, friends, with his behavior.I gave him this book for his birthday. When he read the title "How Rude" he got mad.Later, I saw him taking this book to his room and saw him reading it.Since then, every night he was reading a part.A week later he confessed that this was a great book and he thanked me for it.Any guidance from parents sounds like "nagging" - this book guides teenegers (and pre-teens)giving them good tips.Needless to say, my son improved a lot - he's back to "normal" and we all read this book because is very funny.I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious But A Bit Immoral
At 465 pages, this nonfiction book is longer than many fiction books. Who knew there was so much to say about manners? But apparently, there is, and Dr. Packer deals with it in a light, amusing way that had me laughing so hard I actually fell on the floor. It also includes some valuable information known to few -i.e. "don't floss your teeth before having sex".
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
Most teenagers will love this book but not all. One grandson and one granddaughter thought it was very helpful, a third grandchild did not like it. It deals with real kids' issues and problems and gives then actual things they can say, as well as what not to say.It even has some very good advice for how teenagers can talk to their parents.Best of all, it has lots of humor in it.We read parts of it aloud with a teenage grandson and we were all laughing. It has good advice for non-teenagers too. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars A load of crock.
This book takes heartfelt letters written by girls trusting their most private experiences to a complete stranger (the author) -- and dissects them like a dead frog, telling the girls what they did "wrong" and how they "should" be acting, feeling, behaving if they want to a get a good grade, because this book GRADES every girl in their "First Person" segments.

This book is easy to read. I like the format and the design of the book. The author speaks clearly and in language that is understandable without the help of a dictionary.Fantastic book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I've come to know how important it is to meet the needs of today's youth. There are some youth struggling in areas where we may have not struggled and getting solid information to minister to these youth is vital. This book provides that information!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Vital for Christian Leadership
This book is probably the best I've seen on the subject of counselling. As a teacher I have found this book useful in teaching on counselling as well as applying the principles to life situations. The book is titled, "counselling youth" but most problems that exist in adults are rooted in their youth. I have found that these principles are not only in young people but also apply to adults and their situations. Depression, anxiety, suicide etc don't vary too much with age. This book doesn't focus too much of roots of problems but does very well in dealing with the fruits. People who want to deal with the roots, read materials by John and Paula Sandford. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars **TEEN READER**BEST BOOK I EVER READ!It is truely AMAZING
I have to say reading the comment above made me pretty sad. This book was not sending mixed messages and it is definately NOT telling you to be popular and that your parents will only love you more if you get good grades. This book is simply about helping yourself become more of what you want and getting more out of the life you were delt with. It makes me so sad to hear bad things about this book becuase that review probably stopped someone from buying this amazing book.
5-0 out of 5 stars shut up!
well.. of course a person like me would have to read what people though before i wrote what i thought! i think that the people that don't like this book need help! why in the world would rich people not have problems!! and there is way more to these people than you think!! just because some of you are shallow and can't use your imagination and have fun with some of the jokes he throws at you doesn't mean you need to get mad!! grow up! there are more people who know that that book was good and i happen to believe strongly in what he wrote!! yes i have money but no i don't have the perfect life promise!! so just because a person has money does not make them unknowledgeable about real life! so think to yourself again maybe you just need to read between the lines or maybe your life was to perfect but i know that this really helped me and i am doing some of the things that he said and it has helped me alot through everything i have been through!!

4-0 out of 5 stars What About Multi-Talented Teens?
It is so great that someone who has grown up with Dr. Phil for a father feels ready to share wisdom from his perspective with teens like himself.I found it much more effective than most books written by adults (who were teens in such different times!)There's one issue teens struggle with, however, that didn't get the attention it deserved: what to do when you love lots of different things but your guidance counselor and parents say you'll eventually have to pick just one. ... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The American Boy Handy book
This book goes back to the eartly 1900's. It was before boy scouts came into existanc. Thre were many handy illustrations of how to make a dug out canoe, build a tent, make a fishing pole. It was so interesting to see how people had fun in the outdoor before all oof the luxeries of toeday. I have used this book as a research tool for my next book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, highly recommended!
This book was originally published in New York City, in 1890. It is the work of Daniel Carter Beard (1850-1941), a fun-loving boy-at-heart, who organized a boy's organization (the Society of the Sons of Daniel Boone) and was later instrumental in the establishment of the Boy Scouts of America. This book is a wonderful collection of projects that a boy can make, everything from kite making and fishing to tying knots and camping. Sound familiar?
5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Daniel C. Beard for writing this book.
An excelent guide on many unique projects. It tells you how to tie many knots, make boats, snares, and hunting tools like bird-bolas and throw sticks. I don't care what anyone says THIS BOOK IS NOT OUT OF DATE! Just because over a century has passed since being written doesn't mean that one won't enjoy making sleds, snow forts, and whip bows. Sure it's old fashioned but not out of date. One can still enjoy the many projects, I certainly enjoy them more than the tv. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Rhythm Nice Change
My one year old grandson enjoys the pictures in this book and the rhythm of the words. It is nice for me to have a book to read to him that isn't about warm fuzzy animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars SushiLoving Toddler!
My daughter received this book and 2 others (Yum Yum Dim Sum, and Hola Jalapeno) as a gift when she was born. In the last 3 years we have grabbed these books over and over again at bedtime, to go out for dinner, overnight trips... all the time! She recognizes the pieces of sushi she just had for dinner and LOVES to read the book to herself (from memory... of course). The illustrations are vivid and fun to look at and the rhyming words are like lyrics to her ("Someday I'll Eat With Chopsticks, But Today Just With My Hands")! She often asked for "Miso In My Sippy Cup, Tofu In My Bowl"!

5-0 out of 5 stars Would make an excellent text for IB TOK class
I teach the IB Theory of Knowledge class and I think this is an excellent book.I wish we had this book for a text.We have Man is the Measure by Abel and Think by Blackburn. Those are good books for teachers of TOK to read, but I don't think they make great books for students. This book has short chapters that get straight to the main problems of knowledge for many topics.I don't quite understand the order of the chapters but the content is great. It contains good examples and questions for students to answer. Alchin's book is written for IB TOK and I recommend it to any TOK teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book provides almost everything that one needs to know for the TOK course. Highly recommended.

1-0 out of 5 stars ONLY THE FIRST PAGE IS ABOUT BITING!!!
Only the first page is about biting, and the flip page concept is confusing. First you look at what you're not supposed to do (eg. No biting) and then you look at what you are supposed to do (eg. Bite an apple?$#@!). I'm not impressed with the book at all and disappointed that the title is so misleading.
5-0 out of 5 stars NO BITING!
I GOT THIS BOOK AS PART OF A READING PROGRAM I ENROLLED MY DAUGHTER IN THROUGH OUR LOCAL LIBRARY.SHE LOVES IT!!!I THINK IT IS A WONDERFUL BOOK!!!SOME OF THE THINGS DO NOT APPLY TO HER, BUT SHE UNDERSTANDS THAT NO HITTING MOMMY ALSO MEANS NO HITTING DADDY.NO HITTING OR NO BITTING MEANS NO FOR EVERYONE!!!!! I WAS ALSO THRILLED WHEN THE BOOK "EXCUSE ME" BY THE SAME AUTHOR SHOWED UP IN THE MAIL THE FOLLOWING MONTH.

4-0 out of 5 stars Remember to apply to your situation
I got this book for my son who has trouble with biting, especially his older sister. I don't read the book word for word, but be sure to use words that apply to the situation at hand, using the pictures as visual aids. For example, I'll read "We don't bite people, we don't bite sisters or friends" instead of the printed, "No biting friends".

Editorial Review

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle has been wildly popular with children and adults for over 50 years. Children adore her because she understands them--and because her upside-down house is always filled with the smell of freshly baked cookies, and her backyard with buried treasure. Grownups love her because her magical common sense solutions to children's problems succeed when their own cajoling and yelling don't. For the child who refuses to bathe, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle recommends letting her be. Wait until the dirt on her body has accumulated to half an inch, then scatter radish seeds on her arms and head. When the plants start sprouting, the nonbather is guaranteed to change her mind about that bath. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, Mrs. Grassfeather, Mrs. Ragbag...Where does it end?
This book is great. If you ever have a problem with your child's behavior, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is the one to call. Her outrageous solutions to common child behavior ailments seem to work well.In most cases she recommends letting the child wallow in his or her own awful behavior until rock bottom is reached.Only then is the child aware of the real-life consequences for bad behavior.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Piggle Wiggle
I really liked Mrs. Piggle Wiggle because there were different stories about her curing people. I have read the stories about her but think this onewas the best. You may think that they take place in different places, but all the children in the stories know each other and the all live in the same town.

4-0 out of 5 stars Family Favorite
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle was 'The Nanny'/'Dr.Phil' of her time. These stories offer parents and children interesting ways to deal with daily chores and struggles that can sometimes seem overwhelming. I enjoyed reading this book as a child and couldn't resist purchasing it for my girls 4 and 2 to enjoy. We have been working our way through various childrens' novels as part of our bedtime ritual. Books like this are good for holding the attention of children at various levels of reading and reading comprehension. These stories have also served as a springboard for discussion in our family about finding creative new ways to accomplish the many tasks that need to be done to keep the household running. Some of the material may seem dated, but it's definetely a classic. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Simple and cute reading to get started
This is a good introductory book to the potty world. I love that it cover many aspects of potty training like Michael having accidents and explaining that he sat for a long time and nothing happened. The text is simple and the images are cute. I like how Michael's parents hug and kiss him after using the potty. We acted out this part at home after each reading! The book also includes a parents' guide for potty training.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
My 2 year old really enjoys the book.He says he goes potty like Michael. He really doesn't yet, but it is a good book to introduce the concept.Well worth the money.
