It was pretty good!
My 6 year old son says, "My favorite part was when Captain Underpants pounded a rock on the hamster's head." "I would tell my friends to read it."

Quality picture book
I am very picky about children's books.I like this one because it opens up my son's imagination to think about what is going on in the story (since it has no words).He is 5 1/2 and enjoys this book.

An unusual treat for the imagination.
We happened to find this little book in our school library.My preschool-aged son selected it solely based on the inviting bright red color of it's cover.We were surprized to find it to be a book of no words... only those we chose to give it.It is beautifully and creatively drawn.A treat for those who dream of adventure and are willing to find it in imagination.

TooToo Small
Although Mr. Sendak's books are wonderful, This collection, the Nutshell Library is totally impractical. The books are so small that they are disappointing. I bought the books for my 2 year old grandson and they are of no use because of the size. It would be helpful, if in describing the collection, the size of the books were mentioned.
Paddle Once, Paddle Twice, Paddle Chicken Soup with Rice
Poetry?Well, maybe not laureate stuff, but great none-the-less.Rhyming?Cadence?Fun?Silly word games?Characters too good to forget, even if you don't know Sendak's other work - these tiny books are the way to nighttime pleasantries with your children.You will love reading them and they will love memorizing them just for the fun of it.Then they can read them back to you.Learning the months is a delight, with appropriate drawings and word descriptions for each time of the year.The Nutshell Library is in the `save forever, or until I have a child' box of both my children. And I can't wait for a grandchild to whom I may read these tiny gems!
Great for preschoolers and beginning readers
I love "The Nutshell Libraray" books. Sendak shows that very simple stories can be funny, charming, and clever.(Okay, so "Pierre" is pretty strange but I can have a sense of humor about it.)Pairing this set of stories with the DVD "Where the Wild Things Are...and other Maurice Sendak Stories" would be a terrific present for an early reader who could listen to the songs and then read the books.I am sure most kids would had "Where The Wild Things Are" read to them by kindergarten but "The Nutshell Library" is a worthy addition to any family's collection as well. ... Surely among the most lovable of all Dr. Seuss creations, Horton the Elephant represents kindness, trustworthiness, and perseverance--all wrapped up, thank goodness, in a comical and even absurd package. Horton hears a cry for help from a speck of dust, and spends much of the book trying to protect the infinitesimal creatures who live on it from the derision and trickery of other animals, who think their elephant friend has gone quite nutty. But worse is in store: an eagle carries away the clover in which Horton has placed the life-bearing speck, and "let that small clover drop somewhere inside / of a great patch of clovers a hundred miles wide!" Horton wins in the end, after persuading the "Who's" to make as much noise as possible and prove their existence. My kids love this book
I have a 3 year old and 5 year old who love the books of Mo Willems. Recently the 5 year old took this book to school as his 'show and tell' in order to read it to his class. It was a huge success! We started our Mo Willems collection with 'Don't let the Pidgeon drive the Bus', we've added 'the Pidgeon finds a Hotdog' and 'Don't let the Pidgeon stay up late' and just recently added this book and 'the pidgeon has feeling too'. I love these books because my kids love them and that encourages them to keep reading! Well done Mo Willems.

Love it!
Our first Mo Willems book was Knuffle Bunny and we were hooked. We've sinced bought 4 more of his books including The Pigeon Loves Things That Go! They're all great. Our kids love them and for kids books they're pretty darn amusing for adults too. Good stuff!

"Rraww," growled the prowling lions in this book, The Carnivorous Carnival. When this book begins, Violet, Sunny and Klaus are trapped in Count Olaf's car trunk as they go to Madam Lulu's carnival. At the carnival, it is weird. The Baudelaires worked at the House of Freaks, where people make fun of them.Also there were deadly lions there too, which ate people, a dangerous roller coaster, andMadam Lulu's strange crystal ball. Eventually Count Olaf decide to put the House of Freaks in the lion's den.The other freaks must fight the Baudelaires. None of the freaks falls into the lion's den.The Baudelaires barely escape, but with Count Olaf. I'd recommend this book because it is suspenseful, humorous and has interesting characters.

Sharp Looking Book
My daughter has loved Thomas since she was about a year old (she's 3 now) and this was a great present because A) She LOVES anything Thomas, B) She wants to read this book all the time and C) It seems to have sparked a love for books.
great Thomas collection
My son is a large Thomas fan. he first knew Thomas just from the trains,then he saw the show. Since he loves to read I wanted to combine 2 of his favorite things. This book did just that. It's a nice hardcover edition with enough Thomas stories to keep anyone entertained for a long time. There are nice pictures and an attached bookmark for him to keep track of his place. Highly recommend

A Very Pleasant Surprise
My adorable 2-1/2 year old grandson just loves Thomas The Train.However, his Nana (me) doesn't have a clue.So not to be ignorant, I ordered this book and was thrilled to see the wonderful illustrations as well as finding it to be a "story collection" about all the different trains.My grandson actually named all the different trains (how he does this I do not know), and I could verify that he was correct by reading the stories.The book is kept at Nana's house and Braden looks forward to reading it every time he comes for a visit. Fantastic fun!!!
Boynton's books are WONDERFUL!We bought this set after being given several of her books as gifts.I checked a few more out of the library and had to get copies of our own.The pictures are so delightful and funny!Our 4 month old isn't necessarily into the pictures, but she loves to hear the books read to her!

MEMORABLE, GREAT books!
My son is 16 years old.We bought Sandra Boynton's books when he was a baby.The illustrations are funny and they are easy to read aloud in a funny, exaggerated way.Our son loved Boynton's books so much that, 14 years later, my husband and I can STILL recite "Moo Baa La La La."We buy them for all our friends who have babies.

Aaaaaawww!
I got this book when I was 6 and I still like it! It is the touching story of little Lilly, who loves her teacher but hates him when he takes away her purple plastic purse and sunglasses. It is sooo cute and very fun to read. It is very true-to-life, unlike those other stupid books that think they're tapping into the minds of children. I highly recommend this book. I even have a kid-sized purple plastic purse and a Lilly stuffed animal! This is such a cute book. 5 stars and perfect for any age!

Another Kevin Henkes hit
We read two books to our daughter every night. With that in mind, we pay careful attention to the books we buy to read her. I love all of Kevin Henkes' books. They are both visually delightful and entertaining for both my daughter and I. He manages to be intelligent without being corny, and as I am reading I honestly feel like her vocabulary is being broadened. He never "dumbs down" his book with easy wording. I am also an English teacher and appreciate all aspects of his work.

this book is the best book i ever read! Once i picked it up i couldn't put it down. Everyone has to buy it or check it out in your school library. I read the book in a matter of about 3 days because i couldn't put it down. This by far is one of the best books i've read in my whole entire life!

When a priceless piece of artwork by Vermeer, a relatively unknown artist from the 1700s, called The Lady Writing is stolen on its way to Chicago, Petra Andalee and Calder Pillay take into their own hands to find it. These to eleven year olds find a old book by Charles Fort, which goes into detail goes into about coincidences between disappearing people and frogs. This book used to belong to their grumpy, old neighborMrs. Sharpe. Whose husband just happened to die an untimely death right after he made a breaking discoveryon Vermeer. All these thongs are oddly connected. The thief of The Lady Writing has a theory that not all of the work of art credited to Vermeer is his, and tells the public via the newspaper that he will destroy The Lady Writing if this mistake is not corrected. This turns out to be a hoax, the thief was working for someone who wanted to own The Lady Writing.It was his plan to let the public think that The Lady was destroyed. Petra and Calder find this out, and find out that the painting is hidden near they live, in fact it is in University by their houses.They rescueit, but not before the thief sees them and pursues them.Calder trips and hurts himself, and Petra runs off with the painting, and alerts the police.Calder manages to get away, and the thief is found dead on a train.Chasing Vermeer by an exciting art mystery that is sure to be an enjoyable read for any youth. Slowing down
Read all the books in this series. Booked and got this from my library, read it and returned it. Not as good as earlier books. That's it for this series. I may not read anymore. The author is now stuck in a rut

AUTHOR D.J. MacHALE DOES IT AGAIN WITH PENDRAGON BOOK 7
I discovered the Pendragon book series when I was at Middle School, and just looking at the cover of book 1 The Merchant of Death, I became very interested in them. I read the first book when I was fourteen-years old, and I instantly fell in love with them. The whole storyline about a teenage kid writing and sending journals to his best friends describing his incredible and frightening adventure through space and time is very interesting, and the characters are well defined and have great dialouge and characteristics.So far each book has fascinated me, and I've never once been disappointed by any one of them.
Outstanding!
I have been reading this series for a long time and every book has been my favorite. From the first book of this series to this last one, they are all very amazing books. The latest book, The Quillan Games, has a very interesting way of captivating the reader. There is action in every page of the book, and you never know what is going to happen next. Just when you think that you have figured things out, D.J. MacHale will throw in a twist that makes the reader want to read on to find out more. D.J. MacHale also has a way of revealing part of the truth about the whole series in every book, to allow the reader to try and figure out the truth and to think not only about that one book, but how to connect all the events in the whole series. The newest book includes a major breakthrough in that truth and creates you to want to read for hours on end. This is probably the most outstanding book I have ever read because of the way it enthralls the reader by the wonderful way that it is written. Buy this book!
I bought this book for my 2yr old and he loves it! My 4yr old loves it too. It does a great job teaching kids the cycle of life. The photos are wonderful and the story is simple enough to keep little ones interested, yet gives a great explanation about the circle of life.

Amazing Visuals
A wonderful, graphic book about the circle of life. Why are kids so fascinated by pumpkins? Take a look at this visually intense book and see why. The photographs are definitely the feature here, but the text is not bad either, and keeps it at just about the right pace for a 3-5 year old audience.

i loved this book.i bet crowfeather and leafpool will have kits, but cinderpelt will be keeping a close eye because she is already suspecting leafpool and they will be half-clan which really causes problems.i wish squirrelflight, (by the way, i love that name!) and brambleclaw liked each other still.brambleclaw is becoming untrustful, i mean, of course he wants to see his half brother, but me and my friend, Skyleaf, suspect he might kill firestar.or (as a hint in the new book cover) firestar might die by protecting his clan from a bear.who will become leader if he dies?graystripe is nowhere to be found! :( hopefully cody will help him find his way to the clans.by the way, i liked cody, she would have been a good queen.there is no deputy so no leader!i just know brackenfur and sorreltail will have kits.i love the new territories, though i miss the old land and characters like the elders.i cannot wait until twilight coes out!!it is sooo exciting!!!!! hurry up!!!!

A suprising twist!
When the reader starts Chapter 1, they think this is going to be another, long, dull pirate ship with lame "adventures." (Trust me, that is what I thought)
Absolutely Delightful!!
I first heard about this book when my son was in 3rd grade back in 1994 and the teacher was reading it aloud to the class. I then, this year (2006) remembered it and took it out of the library. I was mesmerized by the story (even as an adult) because I am a sailor! I could just imagine Charlotte donning her sailor's garb and climbing the rigging!I love how she started out prim and proper, then she became Captain of the ship! I too am a Captain, and this story (although fiction) is a great role model for young girls today. I especially loved the ending where she leaves her stuffy life behind, arrives at the dock and the boat "sails with the morning tide". I imagined the boat pulling out of port at first light and watching the sun rise over the horizon.The writing is so vivid, and the story is so alive, that I could almost smell the salt air!I loved the book!

Bananas Gorilla and kids...
My copy of this book is chewed, back broken, torn, taped, worn out by the use of my own children and years of my students in my Primary classrooms. I recall reading this with my younger brother and that was just forever ago. Some books just stand the test of time and this is one of those. As a teacher I know very young children like to categorize, inspect, look for something(well what else explains I SPY books?)and ferret out details. Scarry definitely "got that". I've seen children slip inside these pages and be entertained and cataloging for really long periods of time.Not that I'm suggesting it for that reason ALONE. My daughter Sylvia was definitely one of those kinds of children and she always searched for Bananas Gorilla. I had several videos that were made of the Richard Scarry world (get them) and at a very young age-two to three- she loved those in combination with the books. My son much later was similarly enthralled and now I use this material when the Standards hockers aren't looking teaching my 1st grade with students who have ELD needs-second language development. This particular book I really like because the early years social studies curriculum is "community" based and this attends to those understandings so well. I recommend this as a teacher to families, and with parent interaction and co-exploring it's a very fun afternoon activity.

worn out
I am attempting to order another copy of this wonderful book because my 40 year old son remembers my reading it to him as a little boy and he wants a copy for his two year old son!The conversations you can have with your child as you examine the pages are incredible! Our copy is completely worn out, but I have saved it for when he visits!

My best book of all time
I got this book as a prize when I was 8, and I loved it every minute. I have read this book so many times and this has been a blast 18 years owning it. It has been my source for dreams of many of my childhood dreams and these illustrations are so good. If you are looking to buy your kid a book, do yourself a favor and get this own. Great!
This book is awesome.I think my husband and I enjoy this more than our son!The art work is fantastic and the story really captures this little girls frightening experience at the laundry mat!

I Can't Wait To Read This Book To My New Granddaughter!
KNUFFLE BUNNY received the CALDECOTT HONOR award for 2004.The Caldecott Medal "shall be awarded to the artist of the most distinguished American Picture Book for Children published in the United States during the preceding year. The award shall go to the artist, who must be a citizen or resident of the United States, whether or not he or she is the author of the text."The runner-up of the Caldecott Award is called the 'Caldecott Honor Award.'So right away we know the pictures and the story are superior to most other children's books.And I can attest to the fact that this is one of the best I've seen for babies and toddlers.I know that this book is geared towards the preschool to first grade group but the pictures and text are very elementary so I imagine even little ones can identify with this story.

Still a Fan
I still love this book.Teaches the balance between progress and tradition.Hard work, good attitude, and ingenuity pay off in the end.Had to explain what furnace was (we live in Miami), but all my kids (8, 6, & 4) enjoyed it.

Still one of my favorite stories
In an age when everything keeps getting replaced by more modern equipment, this story celebrates making use of a good steam shovel. I still have my copy from when I was a kid.

Charming adventure story
The story (and series) centers on a family of four orphaned siblings, 14 year-old Henry, 12 year-old Jessie, 10 year-old Violet and 5 year-old Benny.The four have runaway and are attempting to live on their own in order to avoid being split up or sent to live with their mean grandfather.They locate an abandoned boxcar in the woods and set up housekeeping there.They manage quite well until Violet falls ill causing them to ask the local doctor for all.In the end though all is well.
So simple and so wonderful!
These books are wonderful. My son who loves sci-fi, dragons and lego, thinks these wonderful books are AWESOME! They capture his attention like no others. As I read these to aloud to him, he laughs, asks questions and wishes he could be there. Although the writing is very simple, the ideas behind them are not. When I first started reading this series to him he said to me,"Mom while you are reading I always feel like I am there with the children doing what they are doing." "YEAH!" Great stories about children who are THINKING and I love my son to want to emulate that!

If I were king of the forest...
I used to like these books. Now I think they are stupid. Especially Benny. He is so stupid. And he's really annoying. There has to be at least five billion books in the series. Anyone that has all of the books in the series must really, really, really, really, really love them. Why do they call their grandfather "Grandfather"? Violet's like "Oh Grandfather! You can have all of my internal organs if you want." Then Benny's like "What's green?" Then their Grandfather is always taking them on these pointless trips for no reason whatsoever. You would think that they would either run out of places to go or get tired of going on the trips. I would be suprised if they had a week at home in one year. Why do they call them the Boxcar Children? In some books they probobly don't even have the word boxcar in some of the books. Don't they ever go to school? Acually I wouldn't be suprised if Benny didn't go to school considering he's so stupid and annoying. They are so cheesy. No family gets along that well and never fights. If there was a family like that it would be a miracle. And I'm talking about ones with more than one child. And nobody has that perfect of a life. I bet they never had one problem or something bad happening to them in the hole series. If I never liked these books then I would have given this series one star. ... Read more

Repeat Book
I am not a fan of books that repeat themselves, but this one is adorable. The pictures are so good and the rhymes so cute that it does not even phase me to repeat the lines. It is the perfect length for a bedtime story. Looking forward to reading it for years!
