the secret of life
So of course my senior quote was, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."Because I knew that in order to create my ideal life, I would have to follow the best advice Saint-Exupery offers us in this book.And I knew that he was sharing the secret of life with us.Following your heart, following the path that you know is right for your soul, is the way to achieve inner peace.Your heart always shows you the right way.Especially when you are lost.
You're lovely, but you're empty. One couldn't die for you.
To be honest, I never read The Little Prince, or even really remembered it from my childhood. What brought it up, was playing the game Katamari Damacy. Apparently, part of the game was inspired by this tale, and that made me interested. Anything that inspired a very charming game couldn't be a loss, right? Unfortunately, the first time I picked up the book, I didn't get into it, and left it to collect dust for several months. But I gave it another shot recently, and read it during my breaks at work, and ended up getting quite a bit out of the book. Most importantly, how differently the world is when you're a child- I forgot how things seemed back then. The stars, animals, jobs people have, everything is completely different from how you see it as a child, than how you see it as an adult. Part of me is ashamed for letting that happen, so to put it. The dedication in this book even makes a jab at this fact, asking the children reading the book for forgiveness, dedicating it to an adult, his friend Leon Werth. He instead corrects it and dedicates the book "to Leon Werth when he was a little boy"- the person who became Leon. That alone should give you an understanding of how to take the rest of this book. While some children may not understand everything here (I actually recommend it to children age 7 and up, at youngest), the adults reading it to them certainly will, and that's just as important. I should mention though, before reviewing, that this review concerns the 60th Anniversary Edition. Amazon, for whatever reason, combines reviews for a product, even if they're clearly alternate versions. So I don't know about the minor translation changes that some people noticed, as I haven't read the book before this edition.
Not a hat but an elephant inside a boa constrictor
My only regret about this book is I never learned enough in French class to read and enjoy the untranslated version.THE LITTLE PRINCE is such a charming fable and makes so many points about what is really important in life and how to live it that it will linger in the thoughtful reader's memory forever.The simple perfect artwork is as memorable as the text.Perhaps the tragic death of the author adds extra poignancy but THE LITTLE PRINCE would be a well loved classic if Antoine de Saint-Exupery had died of old age in his bed. ... So many good memories.
My grandmother bought this book for me when I was six years old, and I spent countless hours laughing at the poetry and looking at the illustrations. A wonderful book, definitely; very humorous, a great gift for any child. :) I cannot pick my favorite poem from this book, they are all so hilarious; the time spent reading these stories with my mother, grandparents, or friends when I was a child, is priceless.

Another blast from the past for me...
I absolutely adore these drawings and poems - I have been reading and giggling and remembering my own childhood when I giggled and laughed at them... My kids both laughed and laughed when I read them to them - and my 18 year old daughter had to show them all to her friends. This is a just an adorable book and well worth the money for the kid at heart or by age!

One of the reviewers wondered why the text was changed at the end of Chapter 12, The Dark Island.I just reviewed both my editions, and they both match the text on the CD.One edition is a Puffin Book, published by Penguin Books (1977) and the other is the First Harper Trophy edition (2000).I wonder why YOUR edition is different?

Essential children's book
I have had the pleasure to enjoy this book from two different perspectives: first as a child and now as a parent reading to my child.This book is wonderful!The story and illustrations are captivating for both young and old.The town and people of Chewandswallow are just as real as they were over 20 years ago!This book is a must for anyone with children and even for those who are young at heart!

This is a spectacular ending to a fabulous trilogy. The plot and characters provoke questions on the importance of friendship and physical power. Tally Youngblood has undergone her second operation: she is now a fierce looking special who keeps Uglyville and New Pretty Town in line. What she used to call bubbly is now icy, and she is endowed with lighting-fast reflexes and superhuman strength. Tally soon discovers that the lesion curing pills have gone in to mass production, and are being handed out all over the city. Her special circumstances operation makes her believe that this is horrible, and that it is something to stop. On a trip back from crashing a pill-distributing party in Uglyville, she forces Shay to take her to Zane, who she has not entirely forgotten. They see that he is now cured, though he still feels the aftereffects of their pill-taking mishap, and that the Crims are now up to more serious tricks than crossing the borders on hoverboards. When he and some others of their old clique go on a journey to the New Smoke, Tally tracks behind them and in doing so disobeys orders from Shay. When she gets to The New Smoke, after a long time of struggling to understand how the Crims' minds are working, she gets a big surprise. During her time there she takes some heart-crushing blows, and learns in the end that specials really can cry. This is a remarkable book that leaves you to contemplate Tally's character and her strength- mentally and physically. It has a great ending, with an unexpected story twist that leaves you wondering whether she will ever live happily ever after. Read this if at all possible, and the other two in this trilogy along with it!

NOT JUST FOR KIDS!
If you want to be transported to a magical place for an hour or so, buy this book!I saw it and bought it just in case I ever have a granddaughter.I wasn't expecting it to be a hit with the adult women I know.But after feeling like I'd been transported back to being a little girl and swept into Fairyland (and I didn't believe in fairies!), I passed it around to my friends.It was just about impossible to get the book back!Everybody asked if they could share it with just one or two more friends.And this is before the book was ever shared with a child!Eventually I ordered 6 more copies from Amazon.The book is so creative and beautifully done.Just thinking about it continues to give me pleasure.

I really liked the book and it is a very fun interesting book to read. I really liked that it had to do with some sort of sport. I also liked it because it was book were there was all source of action. There was a little boy that lived in the hills and dream of having two coon hounds. He finally worked and saved enough money to buy himself two. He was so excited to get them that he trained them to hunt. The characters were very believable and never doubted that they were making them up. The plot was very interesting because it was about the kid entering a big coon hunt. He won the competition by treeing four coons with his dogs. The major themes of the story were when on of the Prichard brothers accidentally stabbed himself. The author used a very special way of imagery. He made everything be visual in my head. I was all into the story that I didn't want to stop reading. I didn't like by were sometimes they didn't talk about when the dogs killed the coons and how they treed them. They would sometimes leave you think what would happen next or what could of happen.

Geez!
I adore this book. I wrote a reviw on what I think of it a while ago, so you could find it later. But I'm sick of all these people saing there was no action or adventure. What's up with that? And to the people who say there are lost of grammer mistakes in the book, you should check your grammer.

Inkspell.....
This book was on my bookshelf in a less than a week after I read Inkheart.I really enjoyed it and could not put it down. Cornelia Funke used very good detail and surprised me very much as well.I never would have suspected some of the things that happened but I must admit that I expected some things that did not happen.I cannot say that one book was better than the other but I can say that it is a must read for all ages!

Not just for kids
Cornelia Funke follows up her fantastic adventure, Inkheart, with a more in depth and more mature sequel.Younger kids can still appreciate the excitement and the magic, but a young adult or even adult reader can find enjoyment between the pages.The character development delves even deeper in this book.Inkheart explored what would happen if you could make your favorite characters real.Inkspell asks: What do you do after ten years away?Can you ever go back to an old life? And finally: can you choose who you love?
What I think about Inkspell
I like Inkspell and Inkheart very much and I am hoping for the next book. My dad and I are thinking that it will probably start out with the word Ink (although he has not read it yet).

Fun Book
My 5 year old son loves holloween books.This one is up there with one of his favorites!Great illustrations and story.

My 2 1/2 year old just loves Halloween.He was born Oct. 28th so he's definitely a Halloween baby and he loves everything to do with the holiday including seeing pumpkins, bats and spiders.This delightful book by Natasha Wing is a Halloween takeoff on "Twas the Night Before Christmas" following the same pattern except that in this book various ghouls and goblins are preparing for Halloween and for the children who will soon be knocking at their front door.The Illustrations by Cynthia Fisher perfectly fit the fun tone and pace of the book and my little loves reading this one over and over...

Marvelous
Here is Gregory Maguire's spin on Cinderella.It is told from the perspective of the ugly stepsister in Cinderella.In this novel you feel a connection with Iris.We see her life and how she must take care of her older sister Ruth, who is mentally retarded and how she envies Clara at times who later adopts the name of Cinderella.The story focuses on Iris and how she learns the art of painting and loves it.She even starts to fall in love with the painter's assitant.Of course there's the ball that she is forced to attend and Clara goes against her stepmothers wishes.For she became Cinderella of her own choice.She never liked her stepmother at all and soon just became the cinder girl on her own.At the ball Clara comes close to actually winning the prince's heart but then Clara enters and the prince falls in love with her at first sight and Iris doesnt mind.She loves her painter.Of course the ending is happy, Clara marries the prince, but the stepsisters are not tortured like in the Brothers Grimm or ignored like in Disney.Iris is with her painter and we learn at the very end that the story is being told from the perspective of Ruth and not Iris like you are led to beleive.Great read!

a mixed bag...fails to be truly engaging
There were so many things i liked about this book, but I can't give it an entirely positive review. Maguire is extremely gifted in imagery and characterization. At times the presentation of contrasts beauty/ugliness, kindess/cruely, love/hate- were all way too obvious- themes are best discoveded subtlely not shoved down our throats.

One of the weaker volumes, but still a wonderful series
My friend, a huge fan of the Warriors series, is what got me into this wonderful story, and I'm glad she did.
There are not your ordinary cats
I am a librarian, and I started reading this series in 2005. I never really understood why it was for children because there is more violence and bloodshed then the Harry Potter series. Moreover, The Warriors saga became a lot more darker and gothic once it spun off onto the sequel: "T.N.P."

Who would ever suspect that a tiny little mouse could wear out anenergetic young boy? Well, if you're going to go around giving an exuberantly bossy rodent a cookie, you'd best be prepared to do one or two more favors for it before your day is through. For example, he'll certainly need a glass of milk to wash down that cookie, won't he? And you can't expect him to drink the milk without a straw, can you? By the time our hero is finished granting all the mouse's very urgent requests--and cleaning up after him--it's no wonder his head is becoming a bit heavy. Best book everrrrrr!!
This was a favorite of mine when i was younger, and that has not changed as i have grown older. "If you give a mouse a cookie" is an amazing book. It is funny, interesting, and an all around good children's book. I recomend this book to anyone who has kids or enjoys kids books. It is also a well illustrated book which makes it even better.

New Favorite
My 3 year old son and I love this book.We can't decide which we like more - this one or Numeroff's other book "If Give GiveMoose a Muffin".Unlike some children's books, both the text and illustrations are equally enjoyable.It's especially fun to see how the animals boss the children around and tie them out.

Roy Eberhardt is the new kid--again. This time around it's Trace MiddleSchool in humid Coconut Grove, Florida. They do a series of stuff to the construction site so they couldn't build the pancake house in Coconut Cove, Florida.Mother Paula's knows they are there, but they want the pancake house anyway. I recommend this to kids who like fiction and who are very adventurous people.

Loved it!
After reading the Midnighters trilogy I wanted to read more by Scott Westerfeld.Uglies was a great book.It takes place in the future.They try to prevent destruction like the people before them called "rusties" by making everyone beautiful when they turn 16.The rusties are basically us now, as I see it.All of Tally's friends have turned pretty, and she can't wait until it's her turn.All was going well until her new friend Shay runs away to a place called The Smoke to avoid being turned pretty.Tally thinks nothing of it, after all it was Shay's choice, until she is forced by Special Circumstances to find Shay and destroy The Smoke in order to be turned pretty.
great book
I am not going to summarize it, but Uglies was a great book. It reminded me a little of extreme cosmetic surgery people do to themselves. It also shows that you can be beautiful without surgery and makeup and stuff, and about how some people are too appalled by the "ugliness" of a person and can't see a nice human being standing three feet away. This was a great book, but I think it is more suitable for kids around 13-14.

Ugliesby Scott Westerfield is a great book filled with it's fair share of obstacles, misunderstandings, and plenty of close calls. This story is about a young girl named Tally Youngblood who can't wait to turn pretty. Tally lives in a very condensed and small town filled with tall buildings side by side everywhere. With tons of out-of-this-world gadgets the people living in Pretty Town and Uglyville are living a dream, or so they think. In Uglyville (where Tally lives) when an 'ugly' turns sixteen they get a surgery that transforms into a drop-dead gorgeous 'pretty'. 'Pretties' have big bright eyes, symmetrical faces, and perfectly proportioned bodies, far more stunning than any ugly like Tally. But her new friend Shay questions this system, and forces Tally to look at her perfect world in a whole new way.
