5-0 out of 5 stars Giving geeks a good name.
Encyclopedia Brown was my childhood hero. I liked him so much I named my cat Sally Kimball. Not one to stand out in a crowd, Cyc (on the covers of the old scholastic paperbooks) looked like a carbon copy of my 2nd grade self. Of course, I was sitting inside reading about his adventures during recess, not solving crimes, with wits perhaps not quite so sharp. And my suburb did not have quite as many opportunities for me to distinguish myself with crime-solving ability. Still, Cyc taught me lessons that I saw myself one day applying, once I escaped Red China.
5-0 out of 5 stars Are You a good detective?
This story is about a boy who starts a detective business and his name is Leroy Brown, but all his friends call him Encyclopedia. His father is the cheif of police and no one in the city of Idaville(where he lives)had gotten away with any crime in over one year!Whenever his father gets a hard case, he tells it to Leroy and it's solved very fast, but it's their little secret. The answers to all the cases are in the back of the book, but sometimes it's fun to solve them yourself. Some cases are easier than others and some are harder than others but they all make this a good book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a favorite after 20 years...
I read all the books I could find in this series as a young girl.To this day, I still remember some of the answers and clues (a door swings out towards its hinges).I am so glad to have found these books and hope to share them with my son and nephews when the time is right.I'll probably read them all over again...that is how much I enjoyed them growing up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming adventure story
The story (and series) centers on a family of four orphaned siblings, 14 year-old Henry, 12 year-old Jessie, 10 year-old Violet and 5 year-old Benny. The four have runaway and are attempting to live on their own in order to avoid being split up or sent to live with their mean grandfather. They locate an abandoned boxcar in the woods and set up housekeeping there. They manage quite well until Violet falls ill causing them to ask the local doctor for all.In the end though all is well.
5-0 out of 5 stars So simple and so wonderful!
These books are wonderful. My son who loves sci-fi, dragons and lego, thinks these wonderful books are AWESOME! They capture his attention like no others. As I read these to aloud to him, he laughs, asks questions and wishes he could be there. Although the writing is very simple, the ideas behind them are not. When I first started reading this series to him he said to me,"Mom while you are reading I always feel like I am there with the children doing what they are doing." "YEAH!" Great stories about children who are THINKING and I love my son to want to emulate that!

3-0 out of 5 stars If I were king of the forest...
I used to like these books. Now I think they are stupid. Especially Benny. He is so stupid. And he's really annoying. There has to be at least five billion books in the series. Anyone that has all of the books in the series must really, really, really, really, really love them. Why do they call their grandfather "Grandfather"? Violet's like "Oh Grandfather! You can have all of my internal organs if you want." Then Benny's like "What's green?" Then their Grandfather is always taking them on these pointless trips for no reason whatsoever. You would think that they would either run out of places to go or get tired of going on the trips. I would be suprised if they had a week at home in one year. Why do they call them the Boxcar Children? In some books they probobly don't even have the word boxcar in some of the books. Don't they ever go to school? Acually I wouldn't be suprised if Benny didn't go to school considering he's so stupid and annoying. They are so cheesy. No family gets along that well and never fights. If there was a family like that it would be a miracle. And I'm talking about ones with more than one child. And nobody has that perfect of a life. I bet they never had one problem or something bad happening to them in the hole series. If I never liked these books then I would have given this series one star. ... Read more

    3-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Halloween
Arthur's Halloween is about Arthur who is afraid of pretty much everything. When Halloween comes, he is told he has to take his sister. When trick or treating the two get lost behind and D.W. goes in the so-called Witch House, and Arthur has to go get her. The book teaches that you shouldn't judge somebody by what other people tell you. This book is good for kids 4-8. I thought it was an ok book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Great Brain
The Great Brain details the good-natured profiteering of Tom D. Fitzgerald, the middle of three brothers growing up in 1890s Utah.Tom's younger brother J.D., the reader spends the entire book gleefully at Tom's side, rooting for him, the prototypical sympathetic scoundrel, as he threads his way in and out of dozens of unlikely schemes. The Great Brain, Tom D. Fitzgerald, is a very smart, but also very greedy boy, who finds all kinds of ways to make a penny (back when a penny was worth something). The chapters mostly involve him trying to con people out of their money OR trying to make money from schemes. Yet he also uses that great brain to solve problems for others kids, such as Andy who thinks he is so plump useless without his lost leg that he tries to kill himself or the Jenson kids who got lost in the Skeleton Caves.. I recommend this book to kids who enjoy reading. Most kids will find out that they will really like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Books
Wow, everyone keeps talking about how educational they were. I read them when I was a kid, and If I had known how educational they were when I was a kid, I wouldn't have devoured every single one of them with relish. I read a lot when I was a kid, and these books are the ones that stand out, above all as the best I read. Your kids will absolutely love them, and so will you. But let's keep this educational stuff a little hushed up.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book of Scheming for some money for a little boy Tom
I like animals a lot and there were animals in here.If you are looking for a good book this is it! There are also many funny and exciting moments. Readers of all ages will enjoy this book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Funny!
I never did read any Nate the Great growing up...and what a shame. It's amazing that Sharmat can do so very much in terms of story and humor with so few words. It's great for beginner readers and uproariously funny as a read aloud story (especially if you can do the P.I. voice-over effect). This initial installment (I believe there are over 20 in this series) finds Nate the Great on hire for his friend Annie who has lost a favorite picture of her dog Fang. Nate is confidant that he can find the missing painting and sets out to systematically follow all the leads he's been given. He questions suspects and eventually tracks down the culprit, while enjoying meal after meal and snack after snack of, what else, but pancakes (his favorite food, of course).

This is a good book for Halloween because it takes place on Halloween. It is really, really, really funny.Nate thought his dog was a ghost and that made me laugh. It was my favorite Nate the Great book.It was the funniest book I ever read.

I think the haunted school was awesome! There were some kids from the 1940s and one day they all just vanished. And the rest is for you to find out! Trust me its COOL!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
This book was amazing. It started off with these 3 normal kids working on a dance for the dance comittee. They ran out of paint so Ben had to go get some...on the thrid floor. Then when Ben went to get the paint he ran into a gray figure named Greta. He ran away but ran into a wrong room. He found aa bunch of statues of children that were from the 40s, and someone named Mrs. Broadan. She explained that 25 kids disappeared because someone named Mr. Chameleon took a picture of them, then vanished into thin air. Then Ben finally finds his way to his friends. He explains what happened. Then later on a girl named Thailia was putting lipstick on, but Greta stole it from her and Thalia started to get mad. Ben went back to the thrid floor with his friend only to get stuck in a dimension with the 25 missing children who were all gray. They got there from an elevator that went sideways. They said the same thing Mrs. Broadan said. Ben turned gray and so did his friend. He jumped out the window with his friend and these colorless figures tried to push them into a pit, but they escaped. They finally cracked open the elevator doors and were safe. They returned to the dance with his friend then they were going to take a picture. Mrs. Broadan said "Take the picture Mr. Chameleom." THen Ben thought about the name for a second and said " WAIT!!!" but it was too late. The picture was taken.

For over twenty adventures now, Nate the Great, the young detective, has searched for his friends' missing things. He's searched for missing stamps, weeds, boring beach bags, missing pets, musical notes, stolen bases, and even saved the King of Sweden (kinda!).In all of this, his mom has been quietly supportive. He leaves a note on the refrigerator to tell her what case he's working on, that he will be back, and that he loves her.But in NATE THE GREAT AND THE MONSTER MESS, Nate investigates the disappearance of something his mother has lost:a special cookie recipe. If Nate and his dog Sludge cannot find the list, Nate will never again enjoy Strawberry Draculas, Chocolate Frankensteins, and Cinnamon Werewolves (his favorite cookie!).Nate is on the search, and he's reluctantly rounding up the usual suspects.Read more

Do you see any scarecrows "coming alive"? Goosebumps- The Scarecrow Walks At Midnight is mostly about scarecrows. R.L Stine is an author of over two dozen best selling thrillers and mysteries for young people. He also wrote these books- The Dead Girlfriend, Don't Go To Sleep, and Go Eat Worms. He always tries to write scary and mysteries books. This story happened on Mark's Grandpas farm. I think that R.L Stine is trying to say that, you don't need to be scared.

I've read them all, and THE SEARCH FOR SUNKEN TREASURE is so good, I finished it 1 and a half hours after buying it. I just couldn't put it down! I rate it 5 stars. I highly recommend it for you. It's not just 5 stars --- it's 100% AWESOME!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read!
A Night in Terror Tower is an amazing little book. With only 129 pages it is more than able to draw in a reader and fuel the imagination long after completion. The story is about two young children in London. They take a tour to the Terror Tower in London. The tour turns sour when they lose their guide and are hunted by the mysterious man in the black cape. The children are suffering from memory loss and nothing seems to be going their way! When the man in the black cape catches them the story takes a major twist, the kids are now in the past! This story is excellent for younger readers and will keep them turning pages for hours.I would recommend this book for anyone ages 8-12, but even adults could enjoy this as a quick night read! The graphic settings and bone chilling details to R. L. Stines books really keep you involved. The story is filled with humor, horror, drama, and action that won't let you sit anywhere but the edge of your seat.

This story is about a boy who hates his closet-sized room. After begging his mom to let him sleep in the guest room,he decides to sneak into the guest room.BIG mistake!!He wakes up a teenager! That and other nightmares taunt him in this book.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Matt's Fault!
Poor Matt. When Matt is not allowed to sleep in the guest room, He sneaks at night and goes to sleep... And whenhe wakes up at Chapter 3 in the book. Something terrifying has happened...

3-0 out of 5 stars Look's like snooze time for me!
R.L. Stine throws a desperate attempt to satisfy his readers. It tricks me but I didn't connect with the book. Stine whips up a plain story about a anxious kid called Matt who suffers complete boredom and wants to sleep in a bigger room. With older siblings teasing him through every corner of life, he sneaks into the guest room and falls asleep. He wakes up and somehow finds himself in a reality time-warp. Waking up and finding himself turn into a different monster or human each time must be stressful. It aint scary. That's what Goosebumps books are all about. Just the pleasure of reading. But trust me, this isn't the best Stine book. It aint even the best Goosebumps book. But if you are a Goosebumps fan and adore his writing, you should go down to the library or bookstore to read it.
