Esperanza Rising
Esperanza Rising was a pretty good book.This book was basically about a Mexican girl who use to be rich but became poor.They lived on a huge ranch and owned a grape orchard. Sadly the night before her birthday Esperanza's father dies. After her father dies, her evil uncle takes over the ranch, and her and her mother become servants. The only way they could still live in their house was if her mother was to marry her brother inlaw. Esperanza's mother new that if she married him they wouldn't live a very good life. So now that they became servants they had to sneak from the ranch . They get in the back of a wagon and begin their journey to their new home. When they get there they go to their very small cabin. Esperanza and her mother had to work very hard and momma gets sick. Well I think that I am going to stop there so that I wont give any thing away. I do recommend this book though, you will enjoy it.

It made me cry!
It was such a great book!I could read it over again and again!I can't even imagine someone ever saying that they hated this book.I couldn't stop reading when I started the book.Sometimes I even read it when my Mom was talking to me.This book is very sad and exciting.It made it worth spending most of my time reading it!I would tell every one of my friends about this book and how I think they sould read it.If I was stranded on a deserted island and i could bring any two books in the whole world.I would choose Espeanza Rising and A Judy Blume book!If you like sad,exciting,and beautifuly written books, then this is the one for you!

Some unnecessarily graphic pics
I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 because of the graphic drawings of a girl inserting a tampon.What young girl needs to see this at 9 or 10?I personally feel that they should use pads until they get the hang of menstruation anyway, then they can buy a box of tampons and read the instructions inside.There is no need to shock them with such graphic pics.The book is wonderful otherwise.I wish I could just remove those pages, but they encompass the whole menstruation topic, so it would really disrupt the book.

Care and Keeping of You
I've got to say, this book has some great information about keeping clean and eating healthy, however, I strongly recomend this book for girls under the age of 11. The period information in this book doesn't really help, and with half my friends, (including me) already have gotten their period by age 11 and 12, this book gives you almost no information. The other stuff is common sense. We know how to brush our teeth and brush our hair! Unless you're 9 or 10 (maybe 11?) don't bother with this book.

Very impressed.
My 9 year old daughter & I read this together last week.It is a fabulous book for the "tween" years.It gives detailed information about puberty and caring for your body(how to measure for a bra, insert a tampon, hair care, body changes, etc.) but doesn't get into discussing sex.Though we've talked about sex, I'm glad she has a "reference" book about her body that tells her what she needs to know at this young age.I was so impressed with this book, that I have recommended it to many of my friends with 9-10 year old daughters.The entire section on body image is excellent.They discuss anorexia and bulimia in a factual manner, stressing to girls that these aren't healthy choices.I didn't realize that my daughter had heard of these terms until we read this together.I wasn't sure it was the right time to get into this, but I was wrong.This book is fabulous for starting or extending conversations about the body & puberty. ... informative ingenuity
a beaufully crafted book. the art of pop-ups still has a magical effect that brings out the child in all of us. the content is informative, and the illustrations are wonderfull. if that isn't enough, the pop ups take it over the top. trully magnificent.

powerful concept in a simple presentation
As a special education teacher I took a different message from the one intended by the author: when we honor what children CAN do, and give them the time/opportunity to demonstrate how far they can take that...they may surprise us, and even surprise themselves.I think it is particularly telling that the author/illustrator dedicated this book to his 7th grade /math/ teacher...clearly a teacher who could challenge/inspire/motivate his students to excell, even if that excelling was to be demonstrated in an area other than his own.

Absolutely captivating and brilliant!
When I first heard about the book, it was because a friend recomended it. She said it was one of the best books she ever read, and after reading it myself I completely agree. It is about a girl growing up in the Chinese Cultural Revolution and facing the challenge of growing up in a family with a bad reputation according to the government. I liked this book because it really made me think about how kids are living. Also, because I like books about people with a realistic life, not a fairytale. I would reccomend it to any of my friends!

The Depth of Mankind...
This is not the first and probably not the last 'Cultural Revolution Memoir' that I have read.I must admit feeling a bit numb to the stories and account of this tragic point in Chinese history.It has been over a year since that last 'memoir' that I have read, and a friend passed the book on for me to check out.It was time to be reminded of the pain that so many around me have faced in their lives.What is remarkable about Ji Li Jiang's story is not the uniqueness, but rather the commonness of her experience among millions of others.This in no way should negate her or others struggles, yet rather serve to deepen compassion for the many who have experienced destruction at the hands fellow humans.

Read it again daddy!
This is one of those books that gets read over and over and over.Unlike some other books which end up at the bottom of the drawer.My 5 year old son is also starting to read the book himself (I hear him on the monitor).The other books in is this series are just as good if not better.
Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type
Great book!I just wish it was clearer that it was a paper book and not card board (which are much more durable for a two year old).Also, would love to know age approprietness for books when buying.

Excellent Selection!
Cows that type? Get out of town! Well, these cows do type, and negotiate. Life in a barnyard could not be more interesting than in this precarious story of farm animals that take a stand to better themselves and their environment. I loved the expressions on the animal's faces when Farmer Brown reacts to their demands. 'Eyes wide open' certainly applies here. This is a read aloud must! Not since I read Animal Farm by Orwell, have I been completely captivated by farm animals.

Haunted Castle
This particular book I'm reading is called The Haunted Castle on Hallows Eve . It's not a very scary book but it might be for Annie and Jack. They're the main characters in the book. They have the magic tree house that sends them on missions. In this secret mission, they don't know what it is about but along the way they find clues. They don't know if it is dangerous or not. But luckily their friend Teddy can come along with them. He's from a whole different dimension. He's from a world where there's wizards. Teddy has a magic rhyming twig that nobody knows about. Inside this castle they go around looking for something that might be going wrong. The exciting, never ending heart pounding action is going to begin. Did Jack and Annie see A ghost or An invisible child. Find the excitement.
Great Book
This book is very fun. I't cool at the end where they run into the kid in the eyeball costume!

friendship
This is one of my favorite children's books. It reminds me that friendship is something to value and savor for every moment, and is not something to take for granted. Just as Corduroy was doing everything in his power to find his lost butten so he would be wanted, the little girl was saving her money to have companionship from Corduroy.

The Miracle ofyour Child's Birth will Stir Your World
I know that some reviewers feel that this book is exaggerated, unrealistic and that it gives a false perception to children that they are more special than they actually are, but you know what? I don't care. I read the good and bad reviews before ordering it and decided to go ahead anyway. I'm glad I did! The coming of my child may not have stirred anyone else's world but it sure stirred my husband's and mine. When I looked into his beautiful little eyes mine couldn't stop running, and when his little face touched my cheek my heart skipped a beat.

Umm..........
What a life that Lemony Snicket has. I loved the format of this book. It was like a newspaper artical at first.I didn't think it was that interesting. I mean peoples lives are interesting its just i couldn't get into it. I love all of this other books just not this one. This book tell about the life of Lemony Snicket.

Every sentence hides a secret!
Seriously, after about five pages into this book, you'll feel like you're reading a coded message from one spy to another. Like a previous reviewer said, it's best to read this after reading a lot of the other books (I would try up to Hostile Hospital) so you can understand it.I began to read this after Austere Academy and I regretted buying it.Then, after reading the other books, I gave this a shot, and it was so much more easy to read!!So much is revealed, but also so many more questions are raised.I have the paperback edition, but I think I'll get the hardcover, cause that reversable cover sound GREAT!!!! If you are a fan of A Series of Unfortunate Events, pick this up!

You really don't want to read this....
i know some people have said that you shouldnt read this until further on it the series but keep in mind that this book was published before a lot of the series. so read it WHILE you're reading the series and you'll catch on to all the little clues and hints. i can't wait until the book with the letters from beatrice comes out, she is more important than just the dedication lines. Keep in mind, Lemony has a lot up his sleeves for the last book...

Growing up on Fried worms
Of all the books I have read in school (required and for pleasure) the one book that I remember reading and consider to be trademark of my youth was How to Eat Fried Worms.
Haha, I remember this.
When I was in elementary school, I remember reading this book. It's stomach-turning but it definitely appealed to me when I was younger. I highly reccomend it for kids.

How To Eat Fried Worms?! Ewww!! Doesn't that sound disgusting! This was a great book that was very interseting and humorous. This book is about a boy who is dared to eat worms for a certain amount of money. Some of his friends who dared him to eat the worms took him to a carnival and tried to brain-wash him. If they got him to forget about the worms before 12'o clockhe would have to pay his friends money for not doing it. the boy comes home and his mom wakes him up and says ''Dont you have to eat two worms?'' The boy autimatIcally ran down into the back yard and ate two worms before 12'o clock. So the story goes on very adventureous. Hatchet is my Favorite Book
Hatchet is my favorite book, this is a book where a boy whos parents are divorced and goes to visit his father and takes a single engine plane and and plane crashed into a river. The pilot suffers a heart attack and dies, the Boy, Brian survives and manages to live in the middle of no where for about a year, The boys mother, gave him a hatchet for his birthday and the hatchet represents life for without it the boy would not have been able to survive. The boy eventully gets rescued and flys back.

Being the new girl at school isn't easy, but what's even harder is when you're living in the guesthouse of the most popular girl at school and she doesn't want anything to do with you. Of course wearing overalls and Keds don't help out much when you go to a school that is all about fashion. When Claire's father goes to work for one of his friends from college Claire's family moves to the Block Estate's guesthouse, Massie's guesthouse, and Claire wants to be in the plans that Massie and her friends make, but soon realizes that it isn't as easy as it seems. Massie's list of LBR's, losers beyond repair, has just got its newest member, Claire. Trying everything that Claire can think to do to become friends with Massie and her BFFL, best friends for life, Claire has been nice and she has even tried to share her gummies with them but nothing works. Then finally she decides that she is going to go into Massie's room but she isn't sure what she is going to do there when all of a sudden an alarm sounding noise coming from her computer and find out that it is Massie's AIM was receiving an IM. It's Kristen, Claire pretends to be Massie almost every night for a week and Claire gets Massie's friends to turn to be her friends. They spend days at the mall buying clothes for Claire because she doesn't own alot of clothes. They spend time at each others house and spend the night, but when the plan takes an unexpected turn, Claire is now one of the most hated girls at their school because Massie found out about Claire sneaking into her room every night. Later that month at the auction Claire donates everything that Massie's friends bought her because her parent made her, so she buys the clothes and gives the clothes back to who bought them for her.
EHMAGOD....ITS THE PRETTY COMMITEE
Social Suicide is the point where 7th grader Massie Block is experience. When Massies best friend over hears girls at school talk about Massie falling off she is desperate for a plan to stay on top at OCD. She decides to throw a boy-girl Halloween party to keep her statice. The only problem is she has t throw it with Claire, her enemy, and the biggest loser in school. Think that's a problem, when THE PRETTY COMMITTEE decide to show off their devil costumes at school the school principles decides to make the whole school wear uniform. Meanwhile Alicia, a member of THE PRETTY COMMITTEE has a new best friend and Claire and Massie like the same guy. To keep the school from blaming Massie about the uniforms she decides to have a competition of girls making uniforms and the winner gets their uniform worn. In the end Alicia and her new best friend, Olivia wins Turns out they cheated, Massie, Claire, Kristen nd Dylan's team wins. Claire also finds out her and Massie likes the same guy when her and Massie finally becomes friends. What will she do now? I think this was a really awesome book. It shows the real everyday drama that girls experience, and it's funny, also unique.

The 7 HELPFUL Habits for Teens
This book is great! Teenagers can really relate to this kind of stuff! The book is jam packed with pictures, quotes, and best of all the best advice a teenager could get! A College-Student's Review of"7 Habits ... Teens"
* * * * * FIVE STARS! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! * * * * *Last summer I found this book on my younger brother's desk--a gift to him from our mother. As an eighteen-year-old college student, I thought the writing would be "too young" for me. NOPE! I read the book and it has significantly changed my views of myself, others, and the world. On another note, I liked the book so much that I decided to check out 'the original,' Sean's father's book (7 Habits of ... *people*): the verdict: I personally found the book for Teens a MUCH better read. Sean's writing style is concise and very visual, making it easy to understand, enjoyable, and fun. The anecdotes and stories are universally applicable--despite racial, economic, etc. backgrounds (or even age!).He doesn't waste time getting to the point, taking a single paragraph to introduce a new concept, and then supporting it with two or three stories, anecdotes, or quotations; and yes, there are even pictures too! The end product is something that is VERY enjoyable, practicable, and has helpful. If you have ANY doubts about whether or not to read this book, I would say that if you are even looking into it enough to read this review, you and someone you know can greatly benefit from the ideas in this book. Of course self-change is scary and difficult, but this book makes it fun and easy. It's helped me to not only improve my own life, but also that of my younger brother, guiding me to be a better role model for him. A very interesting, and lifechanging book
I have personally read this book, and ( as a 13 year old), it has drasticly changed my life. There are passages in this book that told me things about myself I never knew. Like this " I'f who I am, is what I have, and what I have is lost, who am I ?" I no longer feal that money or impotance should matter in my life. Love the lipstick!

My son enjoys the Olivia series immensely. "Missing Toy" and "Saves The Circus" are on their second copies at my house due to the wear and tear of the originals. We looked forward to "Forms A Band" and were delighted to finally get it at our local bookstore. Disappointed at the results puts it mildly. It is a disjointed mess, with a terrible ending (and if the end is political message, that is just awful and inappropriate)Olivia has lost her edge which is why we love her and the imagination scenes showed none, which is unusual for this series. Ours lasted two reads before it was pushed aside for one of the vibrant other Olivia books. I would buy this book only to complete a collection and nothing more. It is terrible. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

Opal just moved to Naomi,Florida with her dad the preacher.One day he sent her to the store (winn-dixie)to get food.Opal came back with a stray dog.She asked the preacher to keep him but he said no.Finally her dad gave in and let him stay there while they were looking for a homefor him.Opal named the dog Winn-dixie.they had lots of aventures together and made lots of nice friends.Such as Otis (gertrudes pet shop owner),Mrs Franny Block(libray owner),Gloria Dump,And sweetie Pie Thomas.Opal was reading Gone with the wind to Gloria and they decided to have a party just like Ms.Scarlet.They did it was fabulous.
