5-0 out of 5 stars terrific tale!
I love this book - its the sweetest Halloween explaination I've ever heard. Before kids are ready for spooks and scares, this can help be a great introduction to dressing up and visiting neighbors. I love the characters and the illustrations - i can't wait for the sequel!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Story of the Halloween Fairy
This is a wonderful book for any fairy lover.I know this site recommends it for children 4 to 8 years old, however, all ages of fairy lovers will love it.I bought several copies for friends my own age and over and I am nearly retirement age. Both the author and illustrator do a wonderful job. You will do yourself a favor by buying a copy to add to your fairy book collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightfully fresh tribute to all who enjoy this time of year
As the fun of summer wears off, The Story of the Halloween Fairy brings children an introduction to the fall traditions of color, make believe and the spirit of giving which starts with preparation for Halloween, moves into the spirit of Thanksgiving and cumulates with the traditional religious holidays of Christmas and Hanukah. This story weaves the spirit of giving into the Halloween tradition and away from the bounty of a bag full of candy...and the resulting belly ache! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
Before I begin reviewing this book I must tell you that I am not Charles Moore but his daughter who loves the Tiffany Aching books.
5-0 out of 5 stars Discworld
I've decided he's too good and too prolific for me to write a brand new review every single time I read one of his books. Discworld currently has 34 titles and every one of them will probably knock your socks off. His mind bubbles and flashes like a boiling pot of electric eels, and I simply can't get enough of his writing.
5-0 out of 5 stars another amazing Pratchet book
This book is the sequel to another book called the Wee Free Men{ignore the bad title- it is also a great book] so you should probably read that first. But this book blows every other Pratchet book away. Besides being extremely hillarious, it is also surprisingly heart-warming, and will delight anyone who likes an exciting, well-written fantasy. You won't want to put it down till the very end. It leaves you with tingles inside. If you are looking for a good fantasy book, buy this immediately! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Under 13, But Whatever This is a great read
This book only received four stars because on its own it's not spectacular, but as an extension of the Bloody Jack series it does hold its own. This book is a good follow-up to the other Bloody Jack books. It's not the most rollicking tale of the bunch, but gives readers a more subtle adventure.Although I found the the main body of the book a tad tedious, I still enjoyed it as a whole.Jacky's colorful cahracter carries the story along when it starts to drag, as do the personalities of the other girls. One of my favorite parts of the book is when Jacky tells stories of her life on the streets in London. It gives you a better glimpse at her past and how far she has come from the little beggar of her childhood.I will warn you though, the ending is a killer cliff-hanger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Once again, Jacky Faber kicks pirate booty...
I am a huge fan of the Jacky Faber series -- just like everyone else who has discovered these awesome books by L.A. Meyer. I've read every one of Meyer's previous books, and loved all of them. Each time, I figured there was absolutely no way he could top the previous one. And each time, I'm stunned to find that he has. 'In the Belly of the Bloodhound' is no different. Once again, Meyer has written a heck of a story that's even better than his last. Like all the others, 'In the Belly of the Bloodhound' was an incredibly fast read -- a book that I could not put down. It's entertaining and definitely won't put you to sleep like some other 'teen' books assigned in school. I have no doubt that this book is headed for a blockbuster movie, once Hollywood discovers Jacky Faber. I'm sure actresses will be lining up to play her. In the meantime, I'm hoping L.A. Meyer is back home writing his next pirate tale. Aye, Cap'n, he's good as gold.
5-0 out of 5 stars Waiting for No. 5...
Being that there are so many enthusiastic reviews already submitted with which I wholeheartedly agree, all I will add is that Meyer better hurry up with number 5 or I'm gonna die in suspense!Bravo on another wild and imaginative misadvetnure of Jacky Faber, Mr. Meyer! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Series of Unfortunate Events The MIserable Mill
In this book there are three very smart children who have been trying to get away for this guy named Count Olaf.Count Olaf is a very mean person who is always in disguise and trying to get closer to the orphans to steal their fortune. At the beginning of the book the children are forced to work at the Mill. Then Klaus fell and broke his glasses so then he had to go to the eye doctor to get a new pair.He didn't come back for a long time and Violet and Sunny were getting worried. He came back acting all weird and they new that Count Olaf was near. I really like this book because its not like the rest of the books it has a great ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loving this series.....
I wasn't going to get this title for my nine year old.I thought she was too young. But she REALLY wanted it, telling me, "Mom, I've had tons of crushes already!"I bought it and read it first. While I still think she's a little young for some of the information (especially the "going together" section toward the end), a lot of it was very age appropriate.Rather than just give it to her, we are reading it together.(Thankfully I have a very open and trusting daughter who doesn't get embarrassed by "growing up" issues.)I explained to her that reading about these things does not give her permission to do them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excuse Me
Ummm to the lady who said not to buy this I have a question for you; why do u care how its worded? This is a book for girls to be comfortable with, not something from a psychology book! consider that! and your knitpicking! U must have no life to complain about wording. Anyway the book is awesome! It helped my daughter become comfortable enough to talk to me about her crushes! She is totally ready!~

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Give This to Your Kids
This is a poorly worded and confusing book. This is a good way to get them to be shallow, dumb them down, get them into hellish relationships, and send them running to therapists who themselves need therapy. Giving this to them as a gift is also a good way to insult their intelligence.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Introduction to Diwali!
I really am pleased how it approaches its subject matter. Most children's books about international holidays are too technical and long to be used as a read aloud. This book can be useful and provide useful information. If a student wants more they can read a more complex book later. It also helps include an ESOL child's holiday in class, even young kids. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining with a sweet lesson
We bought this for our preschooler to help him understand the everyday life that happens at school, especially all of those unwritten, social playground rules that can be hard for kids to take in.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Recess Queen
I used this book as a teaching tool in my new student group. The students loved the story and how a new student can shake up the recess bully just by inviting her to play. I used the story as a tool for teaching about bullying and means for stopping the bullying. Great story!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Recess Queen
My daughter loved this book!We read it at least 20 times so far.She listened with interest at how Mean Jean controlled the school playground until a new little girl came to school and changed things. We laughed to see how they jumped rope together after resolving things on the playground. An excellent book to show your child that he/she is not alone if there is a bully at their school. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars **TEEN READER**BEST BOOK I EVER READ!It is truely AMAZING
I have to say reading the comment above made me pretty sad. This book was not sending mixed messages and it is definately NOT telling you to be popular and that your parents will only love you more if you get good grades. This book is simply about helping yourself become more of what you want and getting more out of the life you were delt with. It makes me so sad to hear bad things about this book becuase that review probably stopped someone from buying this amazing book.
5-0 out of 5 stars shut up!
well.. of course a person like me would have to read what people though before i wrote what i thought! i think that the people that don't like this book need help! why in the world would rich people not have problems!! and there is way more to these people than you think!! just because some of you are shallow and can't use your imagination and have fun with some of the jokes he throws at you doesn't mean you need to get mad!! grow up! there are more people who know that that book was good and i happen to believe strongly in what he wrote!! yes i have money but no i don't have the perfect life promise!! so just because a person has money does not make them unknowledgeable about real life! so think to yourself again maybe you just need to read between the lines or maybe your life was to perfect but i know that this really helped me and i am doing some of the things that he said and it has helped me alot through everything i have been through!!

4-0 out of 5 stars What About Multi-Talented Teens?
It is so great that someone who has grown up with Dr. Phil for a father feels ready to share wisdom from his perspective with teens like himself.I found it much more effective than most books written by adults (who were teens in such different times!)There's one issue teens struggle with, however, that didn't get the attention it deserved: what to do when you love lots of different things but your guidance counselor and parents say you'll eventually have to pick just one. ... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AMUSTHAVEFORCHILDRENWHO HAVEFEARS.
I have read this book with my two boys ages 8 and 10. We all have anxiety in different degrees and I am trying to help them to learn to cope and move forward. I cannot recommend this book enough to loved ones and parents who have children with fears or worries that are causing problems in their daily functioning. I have read many books on this subject and never found one as good as this for children and even for adults to use. I would not think twice about buying this book if anyone in your home struggles with fears. Bravo for finally writing a book on this subject that children can use. Childhood is where we need to begin to help in this area.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best self-help books for children ever written
As a child and family therapist, I am constantly searching for books to use with the children that I work with. I am usually disappointed with most books that address problems of childhood, because they either treat the subjects too lightly and offer no real solutions for children who have already used the obvious ideas, or are far too complex for the average child to relate to. This book is wonderful. Not only is it written in extremely child-friendly terms, it is comprehensive and gives many good-quality, proven techniques for dealing with fear and anxiety. Read more

I, Like many other unfortunate youth, had to read this book for school and do journal responses for each chapter. I did the assingnment with little difficulty without finishing the book. It was that predictable! I only read the first two chapters before I could do the responses with little trouble.
5-0 out of 5 stars My brother sam is dead
Over the summer I read My brother sa is dead by James luneden Collier and Christopher Coliier. As one of my favorite books, there was many things i liked about I found interesting. When reading this book, you forget about reality and you start to feel as if you were in the story yourself.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book to Spark an Early Interest in History
James Lincoln and Christopher Collier's story "my brother Sam is dead" begins at the dawn of the Revolution, a time when Loyalists felt much the same as Mr. Beach's remark to Sam in Chapter 1: "I think men of common sense will prevail. Nobody wants a rebellion except fools and hotheads." Doubtful or unaware of just how focused and set on independence from the Crown of England the Rebel militia actually were, the loyalists or tories of Colonial America were caught off guard when they realized "Live Free or Die" was more than a motto is was a commitment.

I started reading these books before the summer started and Im hooked! To live like Massie Block and her friends would be like living among the gods. Sure they are spoiled snobs that we all hate to love, but, Hello?? we're entertained by it. Thats the important thing that we read a good story that keeps us entertained and we want to read more, and more of them. Lisi Harrison should be one happy camper. Cause I don't know anyone who doesn't like her books. THUMBS UP!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars i luv this book!!

This beloved and bestselling book from Audrey and Don Wood has been delighting children--and sending them off to bed with laughter and sweet dreams-for years. The infectious cumulative rhyme of The Napping House has made this book a classic. Now here is the new sturdy edition just right for tiny hands, making them a must for every family's board book collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Repeat Book
I am not a fan of books that repeat themselves, but this one is adorable. The pictures are so good and the rhymes so cute that it does not even phase me to repeat the lines. It is the perfect length for a bedtime story. Looking forward to reading it for years!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great repetition; fun story
My son enjoys this book predominantly because of repetition. It is one that is in high rotation, but not the most favorite. I do think it is harder for him to follow as the pictures are not very bright/distinct.I do recommend this book to other parents. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book
Okay, so most of us girls have seen "Ask Fill-in-the-Blank" and "Advice Column".Andmost of us have heard "Fill-in-Name-of-Celebrity is going to be on Fill-in-Name-of-TV-Show tonight to give friendship advice".But most of it, though not all of it, isn't helpful.I found this book interesting and fun to read, while also very helpful. There were a lot of feelings and troubles that I could relate to, and a lot of good advice and stories that girls, having friendship troubles or not, need to read. The quizzes were fun to take, but I wouldn't take the results TOO, TOO seriously. They are about the most accurate quizzes there are friendship-wise, but if you listen too carefully to the ranking, rating, etc. you come out as, you could end up breaking off a friendship that could've been rescued.Overall, I think this book is both entertaining and useful at the same time.Though I don't agree with some of the things that they say, I think most of the advice was really good.I would recommend this book to all girls. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Give a Dog a Home!
What a lovely way to teach children `tis better to give than receive.' With few words and no rhymes - except for the author/illustrator's name, of course, and delightful black/white/aqua pictures of Claude the Basset and his homeless friend Bummer, all ages can delight in the spirit of kindness and compassion at Christmastime. But am I the only one bummed because Bummer didn't get a home for Christmas?
4-0 out of 5 stars great
this was book really good. i liked that claude was really nice to bummer. he have him all of those gifts. what a nice dog. the author did a good job saying that it is better give than get. he used a good example also by useing dogs. overall this is one of the best children books there are. so if you want to read a good book read this one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Claude the Dog
This is the most touching children's book ever written. It still makes me cry every time I read it.

Editorial Review

In the winter of 1945, on the tiny island of Iwo Jima, a ferocious, epic battle was fought, resultingin the loss of more than 48,000 lives and producing what was to become one of the most recognizablesymbols of World War II: a photograph of six soldiers raising an American flag on the peak of MountSuribachi. One of the six, Navy corpsman John Bradley, came away from this historical moment with a deepand mysterious silence about his role in the flag raising. Even his wife heard him speak of it only once intheir 47-year marriage. After Bradley's death, his son James began to piece together the facts of his father'sheroism, as well as that of the other five men, all of whom became reluctant heroes because of their presenceduring that fateful instant when the shutter clicked and created a wartime icon.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for American History!
I can't wait to see the movie. Somebody gave me this book as a gift. I read it with curiousity but I was not excited about it so much because it didn't interest me at first but once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. The author is the son of the one of the flag raisers at Iwo Jima. He was on today's Imus radio show talking about how many rejections that this book received before it got published. No interest in World War II, I doubt it. It became a best seller because it's one of the most fascinating books out there on our shelves. I gave my copy to my school for it's library. Now that it is being made into a movie by American icon Clint Eastwood, I think we can say that those publishers didn't know what they were doing in the first place when they rejected Bradley's heartbreaking and beautifully written book about his father's experience. He doesn't forget the many others who were involved in the flag-raising. He writes about each of them as if he was their son too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book!
I have read all of the books in this series and they were all amazing. This one was one that caught my attention more than the other ones just because all of the girls in the book are more independent and rebelious. It is a classic girly girl book that keeps you on your toes. I couldn't put it down! It took me only a day to read and it was killing me that I hadn't yet read the last book. I highly recomend it to anyone that likes love stories with a little twist! It tells the story of four girls Bridget, Carmen, Tibby, and Lena. They have been best friends for their whole life and have to again seperate for the summer. Each girl goes to their summer destinations. This can not tear them apart of course, they write to eachother and pass around a pair of pants. These aren't any ordinary pants though they are magical. They bring good luck to each girl and fits each of their very different shapes. A symbol of friendship and love that is with them, like a blanket. Put this on your top for "must read!"

4-0 out of 5 stars Girls in Pants Review
Girls in Pants is the sequel to the sisterhood books 1 & 2. This book is about 4 teenage girls who have magic pants that fits all of them and brings them good luck. The book tells you about thier lives the summer before they all go of to college.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Septembers are growing up...well, partly, anyway.
Tibby, Lena, Carmen and Bee are now 17 and have just graduated from high school. All are looking toward college in the fall. Not all of them eagerly, but at least with the knowledge that college will help each reach a desired goal. Tibby is planning to go to film school at NYU; Lena wants to go to art school in New Jersey; Carmen to Williams; and Bee, well Bee could go anywhere she wanted. Every school to which she applied accepted her. She chose Brown.
