A MUST FOR DISNEY VACATIONERS
Birmbaums is the most comprehensive disney guide there is. Its a fun way to plan your trip. Though not as detailed as some its a very lively look at all that is disney. A great book to get you excited about your trip to the happiest place on earth.

This book has it all!
Rarely does a book combine learning and fun so well.This book is very educational (it has helped make my kids wild about geography) yet has a humor that is simple enough for my two year old to laugh and sophisticated enough to make me laugh as well.

This book is great for kids of all ages!My 6 yr old has literally not put this book down since we bought it (he even sleeps with it!!).It is a great and fun way for kids to learn their US geography.

Great book in great condition. Well packaged and received quickly.
charming classic for kids
I loved books as a child, but alas, I never owned this one. Yet even without the nostalgia, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it with adult eyes and the illustrations are captivating. I like that New York "is full of the Biggest Things" from "biggest Sunday papers" (it's true!) to "biggest traffic jams." Sasek's book takes kids from Harlem to Chinatown, and the very last page offers up-to-date facts. Great for little children. If your kids (or niece or granddaughter) are older (age 7 to 13), get her Melanie in Manhattan which is also set in New York -- my hometown -- and takes kids from Harlem to Chinatown with stops on the Empire State Building and Brooklyn Bridge. One of my 3-year-old's favourite books
I bought this for my 3-year-old son a few months ago and it has become one of his favourite books, particularly since we visited San Francisco. I've read it out loud so many times I can recite most of it from memory now!

Charming
I read this book to my class of third graders today, and they got a kick out of it. The illustrations are very cool and "retro," and it's fun to update the kids as to how the city has changed over the years. I found the text to be a bit stilted, but other than that, it's great, and definitely worth having in one's library.

What took them so long?
I'm so glad they finally decided to start reprinting these wonderful, whimsical books by M. Sasek. I can't wait until the whole series is out. They are books I remember reading over and over when I was a kid and would love to share them with my family. ... Read more

Great for Kids!

This refers to the 2005 edition. - I wanted something to help prepare my 3 year old for a trip to Disney.This book was great because it gave her pictures of the major attrctions.She was so excited at the park when she recognized each one.It also helped us pick which rides were best for her ahead of time.One of my favorite parts is how it lists where to find kid favorite foods in each theme park.We also enjoyed the section for autographs and scrapbook/souvenirs in the back.It is worn out from being used so much...and looked at to remember our vacation.This book filled the roles of a guide for me and a book that was for my little girl to look at and enjoy!

My Boys FLIPPED for this book!

I love both reading and writing fantasy, and this is the best book as a guide for both!You shouldn't venture into the Fantasy section of Borders unarmed!

A Must-Have For Every Fantasyland Tourist
The Tough Guide to Fantasyland is not a novel, but it does manage to tell a sort of story. Written as an amusing travel guide, the book assumes that you are a 'tourist' in a fantasy world. You are, of course, going on a quest, and you will meet all sorts of strange people, visit strange places, eat lots of stew (and probably save the world as well) before the tour is over.

Charming!
What a wonderful introduction for young children to the Italian culture and language -- not to mention the notion of international travel in general!My daughter (4 yrs old at the time of purchase) loved it - particularly the opportunity to learn the Italian words.For a fairly short book (which I think is a good thing for young children) there are actually quite a few Italian vocabulary words presented in a fun, engaging way.The illustrations are charming and sweet.

We were so disappointed with this book that we returned it.For the price, it's a very thin book -only 30 pages.For preparing a child for a trip to Italy, the illustrations were especially disppointing.Only a few offered images of what might be seen in Italy.Most of the others were generic illustrations thatcould have beenset anywhere, such as a child and his stuffed bear eating a pizza, the circle of a flashlight beam on the pavement.

What a refreshing idea in children's books!Parents of small children now have a resource to prepare their child for travel, which will help the little vacationer better connect with and understand where they are headed.The beautifull watercolor illustrations add to this highly engaging story as the child learns about the Italian language recognizing, colors, numbers and common speach.Included at the end of the book is a glossary of all the new words for both child and parent reference. If you are headed out on a family vacation, or have friends taking off, this little book is a great traveller.I still read it to my three year old at bedtime.Hopefully there will be more books from Danna Troncatty Leahy in the future. ... Things even a Minnesotan didn't know!
Many Minnesotans have visited the original Wilder sites, but this book contains infomation that was new to even a jaded "Wilder" fan!

Invaluable Resource for Little House Fans
William Anderson has done a fabulous job in painstakingly documenting everything there is to see from New York to South Dakota that has anything to do with Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" series. Ever wondered what happened to Pa's fiddle? Or if the house dug out from the banks of Plum Creek is still intact? This book has the answers. Complete with color photographs, addresses, phone numbers and maps, as well as ample background information, The Little House Guidebook is a must have for Little House fans everywhere. Even if you never get to visit these places, this book will take you there.

Good source for touring sites, rehash of some old material.
If I were to take any books along with me on a LIW journey, it would be this one. The reason for a lower rating is because I was disappointed in a rehash of what to find at the Little House sites that was already published in another of Anderson's titles. ... Read more

Brilliant, lovely children's book - a classic
This book, and the entire series of books by Miroslav Sasek, are just wonderful. The story introduces children (ideally from ages of about 3 - 7) to the magic of Paris. The book evokes a sense of wonder, while relaying facts about Paris that children will find very captivating. We see things like Notre Dame, a ticket to ride the Metro, and a gendarme. The illustrations are just lovely, done in a style that helps provide a leaping off point for imagining even more about the story. A marvel of brilliance masquerading as simplicity! The book has been in print for nearly 50 years, and deserves it place along with other children's classics of the city like "Make Way for Ducklings."

A Quick Trip to London
Originally, I read about this series in National Geographic Travel.I bought the London book as a gift for a seven year old who is a certified Harry Potter fan and, as a result, becoming quite the junior anglophile.While this may not be an up-to-date trip to London (some of the landmarks mentioned are no longer there), it sparks the imagination and whets the young traveler's appetite.The illustrations are fun and it doesn't stay on the shelf long at our house. ... What a great book!
This book is recommended for ages 9-12, but my 6-year-old ate it up and my 4-year-old enjoyed it too.I bought it because my girls are going through a knights and castles thing, and this was recommended as a good place to learn about them.I thought we'd just read that section and put it on the shelf until the other subjects came up.Well my 6-year-old saw things differently. She loves this book.She loves the way it is laid out and what she is learning from it.She had no interest in Vikings or Romans or Egyptians before this, but now she wants more on all these topics.And it is a fun book for me to read too.It is reminding me of things I hadn't learned since I was a child, and the diagrams are so clear that maybe I am learning things better than I did when I was a child.
