One of the Best Children's Books Ever Made
On one level, it's a Cinderella story in a different setting.But it's more than that.On a little deeper level, it's a story about true beauty being inside, but it's more than that.The book seems to have so many layers of meaning depending on how you look at it, all in what seems at first like a simple picture book.Confidence, ties to the Earth, insight into others, and more.I've read this book to my sons and daughters more than any other, and never tire of it.I hope they don't either, and more, I hope they come to understand the richness of the kind of lives lived by the rough face girl, and her sister-in-law to be, and husband to be.

The Rough-Faced Girl
This is a story about a girl who is not beautiful on her outside, but is beautiful on her inside. The story takes place on the shores of Lake Ontario. She and her hard-hearted sisters are three of many women who want to marry an invisible being. But only someone who can see him, can marry him. The lesson is on the importance of having a good heart more than beautiful clothes or looks. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Native American culture and people who need to learn the importance of having a good heart.

The Magnificiant Story of an Indian Girl!
The Rough Face Girl is a beutiful book.It had alot of description and many morals hidden in the words of the book.The young girl was despised by everyone in her village but she always stayed true to herself and others and she ended up with the best person that every girl wanted to marry.I learned that true beauty comes from inside and if you are honest then good things will happen to you.I also learned to be yourself because sooner or later people will start to accept who you are.And I learned to remember that there is always room for improvment.So in conclusion, I feel that this story can be enjoyed by young and old people! ... The Grand Finale

Parental guidance required
My science-loving eight-year-old son really enjoys reading books from the Magic School Bus series, and the topic and plot line of this one engaged him as well.But early into the book, he was asking me about nearly every other word.When I looked more carefully, I realized the reading level was higher than other books he had read in the series and many of the facts were things I had learned in junior high.I decided to take over, reading the book to him and explaining many of the topics in more detail.Don't get me wrong -- he really enjoyed the book and learned some "cool" new things about the senses.It just wouldn't have made much sense without my involvement.

Science
This book is based on the television show the magic school bus, with Mrs. Frizzle.The book contains great factual illustrations for the reader.The students of Mrs. Frizzle's class are learning about the senses so they get into their magic school bus and shrink down, and go into a students nose and from there they continue to the other sensory organs.I like the format of this book because it is very active instead of reading from a textbook the children can get the same information but have fun while they are learning. I also like hands on activities and this is as close as hands on with a book as you can get.It also gives small science experiments and reports that the class has written for the child to read.The author has such great imagination and brings the fun back into learning science. ... Exploring Tintins wonderful books
This was a great book! It surveyed knowledge of astronomy(which is always interesting), and then put on top of that a great mystery and awsome characters! You can't have a great Tintin story without Captain Haddock, Tintin, Proffesor Calculous, T&T, Snowy, and even Wolf make the story great. Herge really knows how to write!

Tintin's greatest adventure as the first man on the moon
"Explorers on the Moon" ("On a Marche Sur La Lune," 1954) picks up right where "Destination Moon" left off...But what makes "Explorers on the Moon" so fascinating is the documentary detail that Herge infuses into the story.I cannot think of a 1950s science fiction film that predicts as accurately what happened when Apollo 11 went to the moon a decade and a half later.One of the chief charms of Herge's artwork has always been the way his caricature drawings of Tintin and friends are contrasted by the realistic backgrounds, and this artistic style achieves its apex when we see the spaceship approaching the moon."Explorers on the Moon" would work as a straight-forward first man on the moon type story, but, of course, in Herge's hands it becomes so much more.Taken together with "Destination Moon," this has got to constitute Tintin's greatest adventure.

A good 'sequel' for the original authors' work
Our daughter LOVES Curious George- we already had the "Complete Adventures of Curious George" when we decided to buy the "Treasury".

I was disappointed with this book; I ordered it online without realizing that it was a recent publication,illustrated 'in the style of' H.A. Rey. Both the illustrations and the stories lack the charm of the originals.

Timeless stories that have been enjoyed for generations!
It was a delight to read these stories to my grandson and remember back when I was first introduced to Curious George so many years ago. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful! This book shows Brother and Sister are bored. Sister mentions some ideas, but Brother doesn't want to do any of them. Finally Brother tries to kick his soccer ball past Sister, but she blocks it. It knocks over Mama's favorite lamp. The cubs try to come up with a huge tale about what happened, but they never get the story straight. Finally they learn that honesty is better than lying.

Great book on telling the truth
Brother and Sister Bear are playing ball in the house and break Mama's favorite lamp. The story goes on about how neither cub tells Mama the truth and soon get mixed up in which part of the story is a lie. As with all Berenstain Bear books, the moral is a good one and simple for children to understand. A great book to have in your children's collection.

On one of their weekly balloon flights over Celesteville, Babar and Celeste notice that the railroad station is standing empty. Elephants, it seems, now prefer cars over trains. Elephants on Parade
My 4 year old granddaughter loves the book. I enjoyed seeing many famous works of art converted to elephant-views of the world -- a refreshing reframing of the familiar. All ages can benefit from this.

Review for the notecards-
This is a review for the note cards. They are beautiful. The whimsical images lifted from the book are printed on decent/usable cardstock, and are definitely fine but the envelopes are much, much higher quality than you normally see in a product like this.The box itself is wonderful and will be something you keep long after the cards are all gone.

SILLY FUN
We received this book as a Christmas gift and it has turned out to be a favorite.It's silly, yet at the end makes a good point.The rhymes make it fun to read over and over which is good for me.I've read this many times to a 2 and 3 year old and they both love it.They always request this book when it's story time.I highly recommend this book!

Amelia Bedelia is a housekeeper who takes her instructions quiteliterally. Reading the list of chores that her employer has left her, Amelia begins with "Dust the furniture." We Love You Amelia Bedelia!
This is surly a kids favorite since I was a little girl!We join Amelia Bedelia as she starts her first day of work for the Rodgers.They rush off shortly after she arrives, but they've left her a list of things to do.Should be a snap, as all the tasks are simple and clearly stated...but that's what you think...Amelia Bedelia begins completing each chore in quite a literal fashion...drawing the drapes and much, much more!Younger kids (1-4) will like the silliness of it and beginner readers and more savvy grade schoolers (5-8) will like that's it's simple and clever/silly too!I recommend it without reservation! I'm sure Amelia will be with us, teaching fine lessons about the words we use and the many means they can have for generations to come!

Richard Scarry--my sons' favorite author
As busy as the pages appear, there is so much going on for a child to first look at, parents to read, and then, later, child can read to his/her younger siblings.Scarry's books were favorites in our house!

Brings Back great Memories
Our own children loved Richard Scarry books back in the 70's Now we find that our 2005 grandchildren (4 of them) all get the same enjoyment.Our Granddaughter has become the same Lowley Worm fan that her motherwas 30 years ago.Timeless classics.

The most important book of my childhood
I was recalling some happy moments of childhood today, in idle moments of work-related procrastination. Huckleberry Cat and Lowly Worm taught me about the world. About Hair, and Toes, and Bananas, and Dogs. About bathrooms and manners, why stealing was bad, to share with others, about forks and boats, and eating your peas. Tintin deserves a pullitzer prize
The first adventure of the comic book hero Tintin, written by Belgian Herge, went to press in 1929. The dynamic ever young reporter (who never seems to actually file any stories) heads off for Stalin country in `TinTin in the land of the Soviets'.

Wonderful "Wizard of Oz"
I was a reasonably big fan of the "Wizard of Oz" when I was a kid. I'd seen the Judy Garland film, the "Return to Oz" film, my parents had taken me to a theatre production, and there used to be a cartoon series about Dorothy and her friends that I quite liked. Here in Australia, though, you don't see an awful lot of the Wizard of Oz books, and I missed out on all that as a kid. I managed to find a copy just recently of the the original story, and I really liked it. It's really a shame I couldn't find it earlier.
For Before or After "Wicked" (The Broadway Play)
The Wizard of Oz--Still a classic, though some of us may have escaped our youth without actually reading the book. The play "Wicked" whets one's appetite for the original story, and this little classic is well done...Quick and easy to read, good type face and good leading between the lines (something we didn't worry about in our youth).There may be other, better illustrated editions, but this one gets the job done and gets it done very nicely if you want to re-read or remember something we should remember from our youth--the book, not the movie!!Suggest reading it after seeing "Wicked"...That allows more creative license in the play, thus more enjoyment and capitivation with that story rather than continually comparing it to the original Oz.
After All These Years
I have to admit, until this year I didn't care much for the Wizard of Oz. It was my wife's favorite movie (and she even has checks with Oz scenes onthem), but it never was "fantasy" enough for me. I had been an avid modern fantasy/sci-fi reader until this year when I started reading classics like the Hobbit, the Chronicles of Narnia, and ultimately I picked up the Wizard of Oz.

Sweet childre''s litterature
This is the original Winnie-ther-Pooh. The one you fell in love with as a child, when it was being read aloud to you by your parents as a bed time story. I have just used the story in an extended essay about english litterature for children, and I can very much recommend it to children, as well as adults. It has, as well as so many fairytales, so much more to it than what you understand as a child, and you ought to read it again as an adult. The only thing to comment on, is the fact that Tigger doesn't appear in this edition, but it is nevertheless extremely charming, and no child should have a childhood without it. A thing to notice is the sweet and interesting introduction by Milne himself, and the just as sweet little drawings and the map of Houndred Acre Wood in the beginning of the book.

The Hundred Acre Wood, a favorite place to visit
I actually enjoy Winnie-the-Pooh and The House At Pooh Corner much more as an adult than I did as a child.Maybe this is because I was not properly introduced to them at an early age.I am sure that the Disney shorts set some preconceptions in my head (namely, that these are merely childish stories).I think that the original Winnie-the-Pooh features from Disney are wonderful gems, but they do, nonetheless, depart significantly in overall character from Milne's stories.It is also true that there is a great deal of cleverness and insight here that I did not discover or appreciate until I was grown up.
Excellent reading of the book.
This is a review of the Jim Broadbent recording of the first Winnie the Pooh book.Although it does seem to include the other recordings I have heard, and I expect his version of The House at Pooh Corner would be quite similar.Read more

Excellent Read for Young Curious Minds...
As a 3rd Grade School Teacher, I found this book instrumental to my lessons on plant life. Ms. Drizzle and her class answer many of the questions my students come up with before we've read the book so I know that we're reading the right materials for our lessons. Great series for the imagination and for provoking interest in the sciences early in the child's development.

The earlier books are much better
We were given a copy of "Magic Schoolbus and the Ocean Floor" as a gift.I then bought "Dinosaurs" and "Senses."There is a difference between the books written only by Joanna Cole and the later books that are basically a comic-book version of the TV show.It takes us a solid 45 minutes to read "Senses", and I even learned some facts."Plants Seeds" is about a 15 minute read-aloud.I say stick with the earlier books.

Great lesson
I just got this book yesterday for my son who just turned 3 years old. He really enjoyed it and after reading it, he kept asking me to read it over. He was very interested because he started asking questions at the end. He just started preschool and I wanted to introduce him to possible situations he might go through while in school. This story gives a great lesson on how to handle a situation when someone says something mean to you. My son also enjoyed it because the situation takes place in school and at a basketball court, which he can relate to because he started school and he loves to play basketball.

Secret Weapon Against Bullies
I was looking for a book to help my 9 year-old deal with other kids who say cruel and demeaning things.My son and I sat down and read the book together and then discussed how saying "so" when mean things are said takes away the bullies power. We decided that "so" was his new secret weapon.

Pippi the Hero
This is a great book and I think everybody should read it.It has funny parts such as when Pippi goes to the curcus.She competes with the strong man and wins.She's curious and always getting into trouble.She has a monkey named Mr. Nelson and a horse that lives on her porch.Pippi has mysterious treasures likes swords, music boxes, and weird rocks. She has friends that live next door named Tommy and Annika.I liked this book because it kept me interested for a week.

Even as a kid, I remember getting bored with Pippi quickly. Unless I'm not recalling correctly, each chapter stands alone, so there's no real plot as such. The other thing that bothered me was that the author bothered to create a defiant, irreverant, spunky girl hero, yet her two friends are stereotypically male and female, to the extent that they don't even have personalities--they're just cardboard cutouts, foils for the main character. Not only is Annika fearful, hesitant, afraid of risking adult disapproval, and not wanting to get her dress dirty, but she's not in the least influenced by Pippi to be more adventurous. Lindgren sold lots of books but to my mind didn't accomplish much. Unlike Caddie Woodlawn, this protagonist is too far out in left field to truly inspire girls.

Pippi does the trick
I was looking to introduce my 3.5 year old and 5.5 year old to chapter books "with out pictures"(!!!).I chose Pippi Longstocking as our first book.They loved it!They were excited to go to bed each night, ready for the light to go off and mommy or daddy to read to them with a flash light.I reccomend this book, even for 3 year olds.

Better than Barks (Yes, I know that's blasphemy)
Don Rosa has taken the Scrooge stories of Carl Barks and filled in all the blanks, both in story and in art. His background art is so detailed, and contains so many gags, that you have to read his stories many times to get it all.
A must.
If you love Carl Barks, if you love Donald, if you love Scrooge McDuck, why don't you allready have this book???

Amazing epic of a classic Disney character
Perhaps I'm a bit biased, since Scrooge McDuck is my favorite Disney character, but I found this to be one of the most captivating and amazing stories I have ever read in comic form. This comic tells the tale of Scrooge McDuck from his humble beginnings as a poor boy in Scotland with dreams of fortune and adventure. The comic follows Scrooge's exploits throughout the world, from meeting the Beagle Boys, encountering Flintheart Glomgold, founding the town of Duckburg, and meeting his nephews for the first time. It's a shame there aren't more backstories like this for other Disney characters. So much fun for the little ones!
Oh gee, even I think this book is fun!Seuss's creativity inspires minds, little and not so little alike.I never knew I was a Seuss fan until a friend gave this to our daughter as a gift...now we own all the Seuss Board Books!This one and Hop on Pop are our absolute favorites!Highly entertaining, highly recommended!

All right book, rhyming book with creatures, but a bit pointless
My 4 year old daughter is quite interested in this book but doesn't really like it. She keeps hoping, (I think) that there is more too it.
