A wonderful spell-checker for grades 1-6
We have over 300 reference books for our children on various topics and still go to the library weekly for reading books.This book has remained on our shelves because it is so easy to reference.Unlike a dictionary, which is voluminous and printed in a font so small you can barely read it, this dictionary has just the words, listed alphabetically under it's correct spelling, as well as the most commonly misspelled version, so even the worst speller can find it by sounding it out.The font is easily read, about a size 12.The words are separated into syllables with the stressed syllable in bold, which is also very helpful with pronunciation.The pages are made of high quality paper and in color, which is easy on the eyes.
Much easier to use than a dictionary
I bought this for my 5th grader and he tells me it is much easier to use than a regular dictionary.I know that it is easier for me to get him to look up words he needed to spell than it was when he had only a dictionary.

Great for beginning writers
I got this for my 6 year old daughter and it has given her so much independence in her writing homework.It has cut down on "mom, how do you spell....."It is an excellent reference for any child.Very easy to use.It's a great confidence builder too! ... Read more

GOOD WITH OTHER MATERIALS
I was forwarded this book by my AP teacher. I thought that along with the class, the book helped. I would use this along with your class textbook and class notes. But if you are taking this without a class, I would not recomend it. I would definately use an actual text book, such as the AP version of World Civilizations: the global experience. the book is written by someone who writes the AP exam, and it very good. The book is definately worth the money. I would also use the college board's AP website for the requirements and make sure that you can answer those comparisons. I made charts that had those comparisons. But I would only use this book along with your class.

Depends on what you prefer...
I took the AP World History exam in 2004.This book was my primary source of information, since my teacher was absolutely useless.We were given "study outlines" that were never gone over, and the material was very rarely taught.I didn't really begin studying for the AP exam until March/April.I started to read this book, and found it to be very helpful.When I took the test, I got a 5.

Essential book for every educator/ parent
This is an excellent resource book, which envelopes the various ways which every child/ student learns. How you can target learning issues and enable your child/ student to gain greater access to overcome such learning/ academic obstacles. Every parent/ educator should consider this book which will be a great asset. Dr. Mel Levine is a compassionate, resourceful individual. Combining resources and also sharing from personal case studies.
Extremely well written

One of the best teaching books I have purchased
This book is practical and provides step by step directions for teaching kids how to run a literature circle. I especially like that for every mini lesson they provide some problems the teacher may face and how you can work around these problems. Great for late elementary through high school.

Very useful
I have been using the activities in this book with my "sheltered" reading classes (includes second language learners and a few special ed. students) with great results. The other reading teachers in the department use that computer based program where kids read and test, read and test, etc. Considering that my students are in grades 9-10-11, it made no sense to continue that approach. It has been used on them since second grade with little improvement in their reading...probably because the computer based program is the best way to make kids hate reading!Since my two reading classes are very small, we only have one reading circle, but the techniques have been very effective.The students are always eager to start a new class novel, and with the use of the activities, I have seen a big improvement in their critical thinking skills during reading.Before, the students would say, "OK, I read it Miss, but I don't get it."I haven't heard that complaint since I started using the activities in this book. I plan on using some of the activities with my English classes also.

This has worked with my 5th graders!
I have used several of the mini-lessons from this book to successfully start literature circles with my 5th graders this year.I am amazed at how quickly they have picked up the skills, and at how invested they are in the discussions.I thought they wouldn't fully be running their own discussions until Thanksgiving, but they were doing it successully by the end of September thanks to the very practical, short, to the point lessons in this book.What a wonderful resource.While my students are considered "gifted", I think that the lessons in this book would work with any 5th grade or older class. ... An excellent approach to taking and organizing notes, as well as other study skills
A large portion of this book is devoted to the taking and organization of reading notes.It includes many examples, which is quite nice.It starts with a section of organizing your study area, which may or may not be useful.Then it moves on to cover how to take great notes, including outlining, highlighting, and paraphrasing.The next section moves on to reading "actively" which includes previewing the reading material, making reading predictions, reading for a purpose, and visual aids in taking useful notes like a writing grid with "what I know", "what I want to find out", and "what I learned" grids.

No a help
Listen closely to what others are writing - this is ssssooo basic and poorly recorded that it really is of no help. If you have the book it may be a bit easier.
Definately too basic
I agree with the post by the Latin American mom. I am a native English speaker, but even I can recognize that these songs are really dumb! Plus, the quatlity of the CD recording is terrible. If you are a Spanish teacher who is really at a loss for material you may be able to use a few of the songs, but I'm positive there's better out there. I am a Spanish minor and a Spanish-teacher-to-be, and I'm trying to find songs to use in the classroom. I would really prefer real spanish nursery rhymes. I'm sorry I wasted my money on this.

Don'twaste your money
Ok, I'm a native Spanish speaker, and this was not worth my money.First, the lyrics are too basic, and the music is boring.Second, they are not Latinamerican common children songs.As a young mom, I don't remember most of the lyrics of children songs from my childhood.I thought this would have some of the common songs, so that I could teach my children Spanish songs from when I was growing up.I tried to play this CD with my children as soon as I got it in the mail, but my 4 year old daughter told me, "mami, that music is boring."What do you say to that?I put it in a shelf, and I have not played it again. ... A great motivator
I bought this for my teenage daughter and could see a big improvement after she read it. This book contains information that will help provide the foundation for skills needed throughout her adult life. I only wish that I had found this for my oldest daughter who has since gone off to college. If it didn't have the word "teenager" in it I'd send her a copy.

This book can really help you get organized.....
Lately, many teenagers feel like they under the same crunch as their parents to get everything done (school, homework, friends, chores, jobs, etc.), and yet still want free time- and this book can really help you get your work done and still have a life, at the same time. The way that Julie Morgenstern writes this book is different than your typical organizing book- because it helps you to create an organizational system that caters to your personal needs, not someone else's. Julie states that since every teen as different hobbies, interests, activities, etc., their usage of time and the way their bedroom is organized will also be different.
Revolutionary
i bought this book on a whim becusae i knew i needed serious help. I used to have an insanely messy room, but this book was incredible! it is really easy to read and actually explains how to get organized in a way that suits you. its so inspiring and has great stories that make you feel that your not the only disorganized teen in the world. after reading this i completly oprganized my room and everyone was shocked that they could see my floor again!I also have an insanley busy shecudle and this book really hjelped me figure out how to organize my time! it was really a fabulous book and the only thing that ever helped me prganize my life-much more effective then my mother nagging me! ... What A Great Find!
A GREAT RESOURCE!!!!I love using this in my gifted 7th and 8th grade language arts classes.They have become excited about poetry after only a week of working this in to my daily routine.It's amazing how many "state standards" I can just happen to cover while discussing these poems with my students.What a fun way (for students and teachers) to cover critical reading strategies and writing style/voice!

This anthology is a valuable companion for any teacher who wants to incorporate poetry into their classroom. I love many of the selections, reading each poem either quietly to myself or out loud to my students; however, several poems are inappropriate for middle students.

This book has it all!
Rarely does a book combine learning and fun so well.This book is very educational (it has helped make my kids wild about geography) yet has a humor that is simple enough for my two year old to laugh and sophisticated enough to make me laugh as well.

This book is great for kids of all ages!My 6 yr old has literally not put this book down since we bought it (he even sleeps with it!!).It is a great and fun way for kids to learn their US geography.

Great as a supplement.
My daughter really enjoyed zipping through this book.I did find that she needed a more text book approach to grammar.This has been a great way to introduce parts of speech.

Easy Grammar for 20 years!!
I have been teaching in a private school for 20 years.I have been using this workbook since the beginning.It still holds up as the most solid workbook for language arts skills.My original teacher's edition is falling apart, but continues to be my most used workbook.Its approach is simple and straight-forward.It is easy for the students to understand and provides logical sequence of language arts skills.The children enjoy working from this book better than any of the other various publishers I use.I have used these practice pages for fourth graders through high school students.It is what the title says:Easy Grammar.

EXCELLENT!
I had to buy a SECOND copy of this book because I couldn't get my first copy away from my then 3 year old. He's 4 now, and this book sits on his nightstand.He LOVES to look through the pictures and practice the signs.
Great for a family
This book is absolutely the best that I have come across for teaching the kids. The categories are well thought out and easy to use. The index in the back is also quite easy to use. I would recommend this book for anyone looking to get the basics-to carry on a conversation.

This is a great quick reference book!
I received this book as a gift from my father who also enjoys sign language because he thought it would be a great addition to our collection of sign language books since we have used sign language for both of our hearing children since shortly after birth. It is a wonderful quick reference guide for toddlers and older children. My 2 year has been using signs from this book since she was about 1 1/2 years old. This one will keep your kids interested!
Great book!We had the 2006 edition for my 7-year-old son last year and he couldn't wait to get his hands on the new 2007.He takes it to school for free reading time and all of the kids love it.Even our friend's 12-year-old says it's very popular among that age group as well.It's great because it has something for everyone, is educational, and the sections can be read in short sittings.The cover is almost worn out because he takes it everywhere.We now give this book as gifts all the time! ... Terrific Introduction to a Thesaurus
I used this book with groups of English as a Second Language students in fifth and sixth grades. I thought it was a marvelous introduction to what a thesaurus is and how to use one. The book is only 86 pages long and uses easily readable print font, so it is not intimidating at all and really helps to promote confidence. My students loved it!

Did not assist in the task
I am a fifth grade teacher looking for a thesaurus for my students. I was extremely dissapointed in...this book. There were many words that were ommitted from the book which made it impossible for my students to find the synonyms to the words they were looking for. They're Not Flash Cards - And Maybe They're Not Even Disney!
I give - some of the Einstein series appeals. Little Einsteins is inspired, engaging, and something that might not have caused Einstein himself to cringe. These lively oversized and laminated cards are terrific. I couldn't bring myself - mentally or physically - to "flash" cards before my toddlers. But, as we're told, things change around 3 to 5 as kids get engaged in the world around them and ask questions that make some folks (and certainly me) log on to Wikipedia.
Baby Einstein Language Discovery Cards Images and Words to Teach and Delight
I purchased this this thinking that I would use it a lot with my new baby, but I find that I have used it much more with my 5 year old and she loves it.We both have fun saying the word in the different languages.This is a great purchase and would be a great gift for a baby shower or for any child of any age!!

If you think you know all about sex, think again!
I had to use this textbook when I took Dr King's Psychology class at the University of New Orleans (Spring '06). I found it to be a very informative eye-opener. Dr King presents information in a clear, concise, just-the-facts way, yet it doesn't read like a 'boring old textbook.' The information really makes the reader think twice about the West's cultural, historical, and scientific perspectives on the nature of sexuality.
Good Book and Great Class!
I recently had Dr. King's class at the University of New Orleans during the Spring semester of 05, his class is the best! I enjoyed every minute of sitting through his lectures! He's is a great professor and a great writer! Keep up the good work!
