5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I used this book to teach 2nd graders of an Elementary school in Mexico. They loved the activities!

4-0 out of 5 stars Beginning ESL
Although this book is more for children, there are some pages I was able to use for my adult ESL course. There are some nice diagrams along with good ideas on how to begin a level one class.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable resourse
I recently taught ESL in China for a few weeks and found this book incredibly useful. Although marketed as being for grades 1-4, I found this book helpful for even high school students--it depends more on the level of language proficiency than anything else. For example, I used the "parts of the body" page to review what my students already knew, and then they filled in more complicated words such as thigh, shoulder, ankle, etc. The money page has very realistic drawings of the various coins, all of which were new to my students. The food pages were very helpful before moving on to more complicated lessons on ordering in a restaurant. A great book for a modest price! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Dreaded Dissapointment
I am a huge fan of the Series Of Unfortunate Events & found this book only slightly entertaining. It in no way added anything to the series in any way.If you have read the books & the Unauthorized biography then you have all the info you need to not waste your money on this book.If you have not read the Unathorized Biography I would recomend spending you money on that first!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not an unpleasant book but an informative one
The claim on the back of "The Truth Behind A Series of Unfortunate Events: Eyeballs, Leeches, Hypnotism, and Orphans--Exploring Lemony Snicket's World" is that this volume is the "ultimate unauthorized companion guide to the facts behind Lemony Snicket's wild world."Since this is the only one I have seen it is hard to say whether that is hyperbole or not. What Lois Gresh has done in this book is to look beneath the fiction into the realities of the Lemony Snicket universe.Violet Baudelaire likes to invent things, so Gresh explains how to build a telephone and a hot-air balloon mobile home and throws in some fascinating tidbits about who really invented the telephone and little-known facts about hot-air balloons.Young readers will also be able to read about real child inventors and their amazing inventions. The information provided is much more expansive than you would find in an annotated edition of something, but that is the general intent.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Entertaining Read for Young and Old!
What makes the Lemony Snicket series of Unfortunate Events so entertaining is that they are books seemingly aimed at children and that yet can be read by adults as well, with as much pleasure if not more than children. These short novels are filled with sly jokes, clever asides, and enough silly situations that they cannot be mistaken for anything serious. That's what makes them so funny - they are an inside joke and all of the readers of the books are insiders.Reading Lois Gresh's wonderfully inventive "The Truth Behind A Series of Unfortunate Events" is a treat. The book provides an intelligent and yet funny look at the oddball facts and concepts mentioned in the books but never completely explained.Unlike the previous reviewer, you need a sense of humor to enjoy this book.It takes the Lemony Snicket world and examines it under a microscope. It's not meant to be a substitute for a Lemony Snicket book but a companion to all the Lemony Snicket books and it does a great job at being that. This is a book that any fan of the LS series who wonders about the many odd topics mentioned in the adventures but never explained will cherish. It is not a book for adults who possess no sense of curiosity. This is a book I think both kids and adults will enjoy.

I'm a little disappointed that this book is supposedly "thoroughly updated" for the new 2007 AP Spanish Language exam. The editor's review says that it has been updated, but clearly only slight changes have been made.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not that much Information
I was looking for a book how to deal with teachers that are uneducated about ADD, my son has it and they just want to classify him as mentally retarted. I need more info.
5-0 out of 5 stars Teachers! Take note!
For its format alone, this is a must-buy for teachers and the administrators who work with them!As a middle school AP, I've visited far too many classrooms where teachers try to keep students' attention nailed to dreary handwritten overheads in black marker no less. Yawn.Every page of this book demonstrates what good overheads should look like (minus the color I'd like to see)while the text explains WHY this is imperative for ADHD students.GET IT!I love it. I ordered two more for my school.

3-0 out of 5 stars I liked how the number was in the title
When I saw this book, I liked that there was a number in the title and the @ thing too.But when I was reading it, most of the words weren't numbers. Some of the pages were pictures and I liked those ones the best.I think that if you wanted this book, you should get it.As someone who had a hard time in high school, making friends etc., I found this was a good way to think back on it all.I'm not sad anymore because of them. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great buy
I bought this dictionary for my 6th grader and she has found it most useful.I have been using it too!
5-0 out of 5 stars More than 100,000 entries providing authoritative definition
Now in a fully revised and illustrated edition specifically designed for students in grades 9 to 11, Merriam-Webster's School Dictionary is an essential, core, and thoroughly "kid friendly" reference. With more than 100,000 entries providing authoritative definitions, spellings, and pronounciations, more than 1,000 clear illustrations and tables, and over 15,000 useage examples, the Merriam-Webster' School Dictionary is a crystal clear, easy-to-use resource that presents solid information without relying on excessively small font size to strain young eyes. Also very solidly recommended is the Merriam-Webster's Intermediate Dictionary (0877795797, $17.95) for middle school students in grades 5 to 8.
5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST!
My students and I constantly go through the dictionary finding possible and impossible words and this dictionary has been the one to always have the information we need in a way that we were able to understand (It also hard for the teacher sometimes). Many times when you use a dictionary thedefinition is stated in words that you have to lookup again anyway.Thisis the one you and your children will always be able to understand quickly! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!
This book is continuation of Tears of a Tiger. Keisha was Andy's girlfriend and now left with rest of her friends Ronda, Tyrone, BJ, Gerald, and Leon to survive without out their two friends Andy and Rob, who both died. Now in her senior year Keisha is selected class president and is having the best year. The principal's 23-year-old son is the new track coach and he has his eye on Keisha. Slowly Keisha begins to find comfort in 23-year-old Jonathan and starts going out with him. Soon the relationship takes a wrong turns when Jonathan takes Keisha to his apartment and tries to rape and kill her with his jack knife.
5-0 out of 5 stars Painfully Wonderful
There is pain in this book that you hope no one goes through. It follows Keisha after the death of her boyfriend, which is one thing she could've done without and then the near-rape she encounters. (Read TEARS OF A TIGER first.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Christian's Review
In the book a girl named Keisha has just lost her boyfriend. Andy killed himself because he and his best friends Rob, Tyrone, and B.J were in a car accident. Rob was the only one that didn't make it out of the car and he burned to death. Andy felt that it was his fault so he walked around with all this on his shoulders until he killed himself. Keisha had just broken up with Andy because of all his problems. That summer Keisha took Andy's little brother with her to the cookout. The cookout was something that the high school does every year and the students come and bring their little brothers and sisters. This summer, Keisha saw a guy that she thought was hot, so the summer passed and the new school year came. When she saw him, she acted as if she hadn't noticed him, but she did and she really liked him. At the same time, Leon liked her but she really had not paid any attion to that until one day she gave him a ride home and his dad started to say all this embracing stuff. So the conflict is she has to choose a boy (Leon) or a man (Jonathan).

5-0 out of 5 stars Homeschooler's Review
Terrific! Childrens songs and activities make this a fun and easy way to learn german. The kids sing the songs all day long and really look forward to their german lesson to start their homeschool day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
Getting ready to move to Germany, I wanted to make sure my kids (ages 4 and 6) were ready for the move.I have bought about any German lessons I can find. The songs on this set are not only tolerable, they are catchy (I catch myself singing them). The kids really enjoy them (though they have problems with the book because they're not quite reading yet). All together, a great set.I, too, wish there was a volume 2!

5-0 out of 5 stars This was just what I hoped for
I am so happy I chose this item for my children. Although my daughters are only 3 and 5, I wanted something to help them learn basic words and phrases. The lessons are simple with lots of reptition and cute songs. I put the CD on when they are playing and sometimes they participate but just as often not - but later, I'll hear them singing the number song. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For parents, teachers, tutors, day-care staff and more
Now in a revised and updated edition, The Survival Guide For Kids With LD* (*Learning Differences) by University of Nevada-Reno professors Gary Fisher and Rhoda Cummings, is a simply presented and easily accessible guide written especially for those dealing with children who have "learning differences". Emphasizing that having one of the many kinds of learning disabilities or cognitive restrictions doesn't preclude a child from learning, from having friends, or from growing up to be a successful adult. The readable prose is packed with tips for dealing with teasing, providing encouragement, simple black-and-white artwork, study tips, and more. The Survival Guide For Kids With LD* is highly recommended reading for parents, teachers, tutors, day-care staff members, -- and most especially, for kids ages 10 and up. Also highly recommended for teen readers is The Survival Guide For Teenagers With LD (0915793512; [$$$]); for parents, When Your Child Has LD (0915793873; [$$$]); and for educators, The School Survival Guide For Kids With LD (0915793326; [$$$]).

5-0 out of 5 stars The Survival Guide for Kids with LD
This book is a GREAT way for kids to learn about their own Learning Disabilities (the book calls them Learning Differences).I read this book to my son to help explain to him why he's noticing that he's different fromsome of the other kids in school. The book creates such a relaxed,non-threatening attitude about LDs, and asks some really great questions tohelp the kids see which LD(s) fit them.It addresses ADHD as well!It haspicture drawings of kids having trouble in school that my son could reallyrelate to!He was at once interested, urging me to read more and more, even though he was learning that he was in fact "different". What a wonderful tool for families and kids to learn about each other andthemselves. It's a positive book about the harsh reality of LDs - and it'swritten specifically for kids!Do your child a favor - read this book withthem! It will open up conversations and give you both the language andcourage you'll need to tackle the days and years ahead! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good starter book
My son is 2 and I bought this book for him because we are learning sign language together. He's deaf and I think that the colorful pages and pictures were great to keep his attention.I bought one for all the kids in the family so that they could learn some also, so that they can get a start on learning how to talk to my son.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Introduction To Sign Language
I was learning sign language and saw this book at the store. I brought it home with me and later my 2-year-old cousin fell in love with it and whenever she came over would search the toy box for it. She would see the sign for baby on the front and then sign it herself. My 4-year-old sister loves to look at the pictures in this book. She only knows 1 or 2 signs though. I think when she is older she will actually be interested in learning the signs. It's a great book. But I think it would be best for kid's 5 and up.

3-0 out of 5 stars Will often have to spend a lot of time...
I used this for part of the year last year and while the concept is good, I felt almost everyday I had to spend a lot of time explaining questions on the sheet that they had never seen before. The skills are random (which is the point) but you will definitely need to teach some of them that day, as oftentimes they have not learned certain skills yet. This would end up being a large part of your language arts program.
5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Daily Practice Builds Skills
I have used the Daily Language Program, (or as my students call it "DLR"), for several years. It takes about 15 - 20 minutes to do, and the results are remarkable. I highly recommend this book to supplement any language arts curriculum.

5-0 out of 5 stars Daily Language Review books are a must for any teacher!
I have taught 3rd, 5th and 6th grades and will never teach without a DLRbook again. They are simple and easy to use in the classroom, but alsoprovide wonderful skills for students. They go beyond the traditional DOLskills and teach more skills that students need to know. These books areset up so that they can be completed in just a small amount of time but youwill see a huge improvement in your students. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars An art educators delight.
Learning Through Art is a wonderful teacher tool to expose students to art and artists through fun filled reading, writing, and observational activities. Many students have never visited or explored a museum. Learning Through Art gives students a feeling they have been able to visit a museum to discover and learn about art, art history, and art of many cultures. I share this book with students at the beginning of every school year and they love the activities. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good recipes - but very inefficient.
Children love to follow instructions, step by step, and this book has an over abundance of unnecessary and inefficient steps that can make a simple recipe that would normally take 20 minutes to prep, drag on for hours. Any adult, who cooks like this doesn't cook often, cooks professionally or spends most of their waking hours in a kitchen.
5-0 out of 5 stars For Every Kid, Parent, and Grandparent You Know
I've given this book to just about every kid, parent, and grandparent in my life, all to rave reviews. My niece hoards it from her brother. One friend's son cooks dinner for the family once a week from this book.Another friend asks her grand-daughter to choose a recipe or two from the book and they spend a Saturday afternoon centering a cooking lesson around the skills learned therein. The book strikes just the right tone:friendly without being cutesy, snappy without being silly. It's a marvelous idea beautifully executed, and a great gift. Abigail Johnson Dodge hit a home run with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yum!
