Must Read for Christians
I've been a Christian for years and have always felt that something was "missing" from the American church.Rob Bell's insights have helped my faith feel more real than ever before.This is much better than the religion I've been sold my whole life.I enjoyed the fact that I didn't necessarily agree with everything in the book and that was okay - I was challenged to think some things through.Read this book.Let me say it one more time: read this book.

A Good Base for Jumping Off Into "Real" Christian Faith
Before reviewing the content, I think it is important to note that the covers of the paperback copies I've seen of this all seem to scratch easily.So if you care about the aesthetics of the book, pay the few extra dollars and get the hardback.That being said, here it is:
Hard to know what to make of it
American pastor Rob Bell is a leader in the Emerging Church movement, and this book seeks to apply the principles of postmodernism to the contemporary church. The result is a mixed bag. Much of the book is simply a call to love Jesus more, to rediscover the wonder and mystery of the faith. As such, it is just another book on Christian living, and cannot really be faulted. But it is the over-reliance on the postmodernist framework that is cause for concern.

One of the reviewers wondered why the text was changed at the end of Chapter 12, The Dark Island.I just reviewed both my editions, and they both match the text on the CD.One edition is a Puffin Book, published by Penguin Books (1977) and the other is the First Harper Trophy edition (2000).I wonder why YOUR edition is different?

Wonderful tool for faithful living
I bought this for my daughter and use it even more than she does. This is a wonderful Catholic interpretation of the Bible and does a great job of explaining Catholic beliefs and traditions in relation to Scripture. It has all 73 books, so it's a complete Catholic Bible.

Really Cool Bible for Teens!!!
I ordered this Bible for my daughter.She and another girl in her youth group here in Sweden (we are Americans serving over seas) shared it with some of the other girls and it has actually become top of the other girls wish lists for their birthdays!It has practical stories the girls can relate to and thought provoking questions that are appropriately worded.Other bibles I have looked at sometimes discuss things in ways that I would prefer talking to my daughter about.This uses the Word only!Great Word of God!!

Excellent devotional bible
This is an excellent devotional Bible.The first reviewer who doesn't like the Bible because it condemns witchcraft is completely ignorant of New Testament Greek, and seems to dislike anything that cramps their lifestyle or beliefs.The NIV is an excellent translation based on the oldest and best manuscripts and translatedby people who actually know Greek, and don't use alternate definitions that don't reflect the true text in order to make things that are condemned by the Bible seem accaptable.If you want your kids to learn what the Bible says, and not what a Wiccan wants it to say, this is a great devotional Bible. ... The Beginner's Bible: Timeless Children's Stories
We wanted to give a gift to each new baby from our women's group at church. We thought this would be good because it will provide a way for mom to read to the child as it grows.

Nice, but Lacking
It is a good Bible for children who are learning to read, but not suitable for reading and teaching accurate bible history or lessons to young school age children. The stories are simplistic, and, as one reviewer suggested, kind of "leave you hanging". The illustrations are also simple, and very "cartoonish". Also, many good Bible stories are missing altogether.

Winter of the Ice Wizard by Mary Pope Osborne kids review
I liked this book because it had a lot of action. They had wolves that chased them and they also had winter storms. In this book they find two friends that help them. I would recommend this book for all boys and girls.

Wee Sing Bible Songs CD format
I love all the songs on this CD! Catchy, rhymthic, fun to sing and listen to. Most are familiar.I enjoy them as much as the children. I had the audiocassette and book years ago and am so glad to be able to get it on CD. Perfect to use with children's groups.

My little girl can't get enough of it & my grade school son likes it too

Inspiration from a respected leader
The Spyglass is not just for grades K-5.Our Chief Technology Officer read this story to us during our last meeting, and most of us have graduated from grade 12.He is the wise king who peers through the wrong end of the spyglass and goes forth to tell all about his great visions and we are the poor peasants who will carry out his wishes.

Extraordinary enchanting lesson on Faith
What a beautiful enchanting story for all ages to read! I loved it, my children loved it! The Spyglass is a wonderful story to teach us (and our children) on how we view things in life. It taught me when we have faith and hope in our hearts we can reach for that which we thought was beyond our grasp. The illustrations were marvelous! I understand that this book is one in a virtues series, I can't wait to buy the whole collection. What a treasure to have! Thank you for writing a story with such uplifting values for our children! Give a Dog a Home!
What a lovely way to teach children `tis better to give than receive.' With few words and no rhymes - except for the author/illustrator's name, of course, and delightful black/white/aqua pictures of Claude the Basset and his homeless friend Bummer, all ages can delight in the spirit of kindness and compassion at Christmastime. But am I the only one bummed because Bummer didn't get a home for Christmas?

this was book really good. i liked that claude was really nice to bummer. he have him all of those gifts. what a nice dog. the author did a good job saying that it is better give than get. he used a good example also by useing dogs. overall this is one of the best children books there are. so if you want to read a good book read this one.

Fun alive and really applicable
If you have a child between 6-12, this is THE Bible to get. The new living translation really brings the Bible to life and is written simply. Learning about Jesus shouldn't be complicated but simple to understand! It also shows the kids how to apply the Bible in their lives. I love the KJV but have found it a hard read at times, not so with this. It also has a daily reading list for kids along with a question to answer to get them thinking. In addition, it has a family devotion section which is great for the family to get involved!There are fun facts, a time line, and object lessons to help them relate that hey can do easily at home. It's packed with fun so that kids can learn in a fun involved way!

Battlefield for all MINDS
I must say that i am very happy joyce meyers has taken the time to write a book dealing with young teenagers minds. This book was much needed. I think every teenager who struggles with anger, fear, self esteem, and so on should read this book :)

Great story--nothing to do with Halloween
This is a great story that can help people of all ages, even though geared to children, understand the message of the Gospel in a creative way.This doesn't have to be associated with the celebration of Halloween.I know that many people who profess to be Christians still like to celebrate Halloween and feel that this story helps to tie it to their faith.That shouldn't make this a bad book for those who don't think Halloween has a place in the lives of Christians.Putting a face on a pumpkin to do something fun during fall harvest is a spiritually neutral activity.It just doesn't have to be about Halloween.I am glad that people like Ms Higgs take the time to do something positive for this time of year--something that takes the focus OFF of Halloween.

Just a thought on the book
I think it's wonderful book and I'm a christian. Everything was made by god including pumpkins and carving pumpkins is fun. It does not have to be evil and the fact that you can do it and teach your child about god is wonderful. Just wondering if the people who judge the book as trying to turn evil into good buy christmas trees and decorate them?? Did you know that is also a Pagan tradition with roots not honoring god?? How many Christians buy and decorate Christmas trees?? I would say step back and look more closely at yourself before judging others. In the Bible we are not bound by law but by grace. How can anything that teaches about god be sinful?? It does not matter what people did thousands of years ago but it does matter that we honor god in our words and actions today. Well I remembered how much I loved the Narnia series when I was a kid so when I saw all seven books in a box set I had to have them.There is one thing bothering me though, do these books seem shorter to anyone else?I was sure that the books had more pages to them when I first read them, or maybe it was because I was smaller back then!Anyway, I am glad to own the set, I can't wait to give them to my kids to read if I ever have any...

I have not read these books since I was quite young.It was great to see they have withstood the test of time.I enjoyed them as an adult as much as I did when I was a kid.The boxed set is something I will enjoy having in my library and reading again and again.They really are timeless stories.I wish they would make films of more of them.

A Classic!
Being a teacher, I have read this personal favorite story many times to my class, and have enjoyed the cartoom on TV.I've always wanted to own a copy of it and the book to compare/contrast.Well, this year I saw the movie with Jim Carey and comparing it to the classic video, I felt Seuss must be turning over in his grave!It cannot compare to the wonderful cartoon that captures the whimsical drawings and fabulous rhythm of Seuss' words.This year my students did compare/contrast the book and video cartoon, and really learned much from it.Seuss always has a great message, and this one about giving and materialism is right up there!

WHO'd a thunk it?
It is hard to imagine a Christmas without the Grinch.WHO would have believed that an ugly green creature with a heart that is too small could capture the genuine heart of Christmas?A trip to WHOVILLe is a mandatory part of the seasonal celebrations.God bless us, everyone, and especially Dr. Seuss
