4-0 out of 5 stars Great with Devotions
I read a story a night from this book after we read devotions at the dinner table. We all love the stories. Some of the stories our sad and make you think. Some are funny like the Lesson in Lavendar story which is one of our favorites on Compassion and Forgiveness. This storyjust happened to fit right with our Devotion readings from Sticky Situations 2 another great book. The book is geared for teens but we all can relate to the stories and enjoy them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup!
I absolutely love all chicken soup books and this one was equally amazing. I thought that Chicken Soup for the Christian Teenage Soup was very well written. The stories were very realistic and I think that anyone could relate to them. It covered everyday issues like school, family, friends, and just faith in general. In short this book is very heartwarming and can be read by most everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memories
I read this book when I was in the third grade and I loved it!!! I probably read the book 20 times during my childhood. I am now 24, and still remember the yummy candy corn contest described in this book. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Two illustrators
Publisher and Amazon, ect., should list the cover artist as well, if it is different from interiors. Many reasons for this... Public can find the specific book they are looking for, and equal time is given to each artist. (instead of leaving the cover artist out altogether-which, unfortunately has been done since paperbacks were invented. I know, because I am a children's book cover artist. We get neither money or fame, but our work helps sell the book....It is criminal if someone else gets all the credit.

4-0 out of 5 stars Yummy

5-0 out of 5 stars KOSHER BY DESIGN: KIDS IN THE KITCHEN
This is a wonderful new cookbook for kids. The good people at Mesorah Publications have spared no expense creating an accessible and appealing cookbook that is full of fun for both children and adults. The brightly colored design and jump-off-the-page graphics will surely grab any reader. Here's an example of instructions from page 9 (colored green and pink) on how to keep your kitchen kosher: "Be a Kosher label detective...Meat and dairy never mix...Yuk! Creepy crawly things don't belong in kosher food!"

5-0 out of 5 stars From a 7 Year Old Boy
YOu should read Favorite Greek Myths sometime. If you have it you should read it again. The first one was the story of Helios and Phaeton.Phaeton wanted to know if he really was the son of Helios. He asked Helios if he was his son.Helios said he would grant him one wish to prove that he was his father.Phaeton asked if he could drive Helios' chariot. He drove the chariot and it went off the track that Helios made and he was heading straight toward earth.Zeus struck the chariot with an thunder bolt to stop Phaeton from chocking Mother Earth. The chariot fell onto the harbor of the sea.Helios never let anyone ride his chariot again.Other stories in this book include stories about King Midas, the Great Bear, Atalanta, Cupid and more.I liked this book.It was 5 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Greek Myths With Roman Names
This book is a disgrace to scholarship. The author muddles the entire subject by using the Roman names for the Greek deities. This is simply unacceptable in this day and age. It is disrespectful to the cultures of the ancient societies that produced these sacred stories. It is scandalous that a reputable publisher would have allowed such a travesty into print. As a university instructor of children's literature courses for thirty years, this is the absolute worst book on this topic I have ever read. Avoid it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Classic.Great for Storytelling.A great gift !!!
From the author of the Magic Tree House books (Grades 2-4).As one reviewer suggests, one can be and should be exposed to these classic stories long before high school! Read any one of these intriguing tales to a young child and the interest will simply blossom.Sow the seeds while the ground is fertile !!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars No better lesson for your kids
The lessons and messages taught in these Lucado books through Punchinello and his friends are very effective. If you want children with great self esteem, high confidence, ability to choose the right path, not afraid to say 'no' to peer pressure, always treat others with respect, leaders amongst their friends, far less troubles than other kids....then you'll get all Lucado books like this and read them to your kids. The kids love the stories, and I bet there's even a message parents will get as well. You can't buy a better book for your grandchildren, children, nieces, nepwhews or friends. Make an investment in your kids future that pays off big time. Ours has already, and we're so glad we did!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of All
Max Lucado has done it again with his book "Best of All".He continues to teach life long lessons using creative characters that are able to captivate readers of all ages.Sergio Martinez does an amazing job making the story come alive for readers with his illustrations.I use Lucado's books in my third grade classroom and we always have wonderful, heartfelt discussions to follow.I recommend his books to anyone with children of their own or to an educator who wants to fully enthrall his/her students while teaching moral lessons. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My Grandchildren Love It!
I first read this book to my grandchildren when they were 4 1/2 and 6 years old. They didn't want me to put the book down! This book and "God's Mailbox" also by Marc Gellman are great reading-aloud books, and also a wonderful way to introduce the concept of God to young children. I'm about to buy several more copies for the other young children in my family. [I am actually the wife of "Music Man RS".]

1-0 out of 5 stars Cute Doesn't Count
I see several rave reviews with which I don't agree. What I find absolutely incomprehensible is that almost all these reviewers make use of this book in Judeo-Christian religious formation. Please be assured that this book is not only without religious or theologic value but will confuse your children or thoroughly misinform them.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Princess Present
This was enough to keep me entertained for the moment inbetween novels, but if it would have been any longer I would have fallen asleep. I honestly don't get the point, except Lilly and Michael are coming to Genovia for Christmas and Lilly makes a mess and Mia is trying to find the perfect gift for Michael. Funny how it turns out...
5-0 out of 5 stars Loveable Christmas Tale
Mia is super excited about spending Christmas in Genovia with Grandmere- for once. Usully, she would have hated spending the season with nagging, careless Grandmere. But this time, her best friend Lilly and boyfriend Michael are coming to visit her-and she hopes it will be the best Christmas ever. But what to get Michael? What will be the perfect present?
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Story

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Leave it to Amy to bring such a beautiful book to the lives of our children. This is the perfect gift to put in a Christmas stocking or an Easter basket. It makes an excellent First Communion gift as well. The point is, every child should have a copy.Blessings to Ms. Welborn.Cheryl Dickow, author of, "Raising Christian Children in a Secular World."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for children and adults
This is my 8 year old son's favorite book! I have learned a lot from it as well! The book is chalk-full of 3-4 page stories about saints from all times. The stories are framed with an introduction that kids can relate to from their own lives and concluded with a short question to expand discussion between children and parents about how the saint's virtues can relate to the child's life. The saint stories are engaging, insightful, and well written with children in mind. This book is the best resource I have found for expanding a child's knowledge of the Catholic religion as well as his or her character virtues.

5-0 out of 5 stars How Amy Welborn Nearly Caused a Bar-Fight
A year or so ago when I was visiting a friend in Newport, Rhode Island, he took me to one of his favorite watering holes. I believe the name of the place was O'Brien's. It was trivia night, and though the contest was half-over, we decided to participate.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any child being baptized!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely beyond my expectations...Written for the parents andthe child. It will be a keepsake to pass on to future generations. Perfect way to help remember a very important event!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Teaches from a Roman Catholic Perspective
Readers should understand that this book teaches about Baptism from a Roman Catholic perspective. For instance, in the section "Why we Baptize," the author claims that Baptism is "necessary for salvation."This is contrary to what Protestant churches believe, and, unless I am quite mistaken, what Eastern Orthodoxy teaches.I don't intend this as a knock against the book, but non-Roman Catholics who want to understand Baptism and teach their children about the sacrament will want to look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars an essential christmas tradition
When he was six, my little brother got this book for Christmas.Scratch and sniff was relatively new, and we were amazed at the lovely fragrances of orange, cocoa, and apple pie hidden inside this book!We both hated the pine, like another reader.I have read that scent is the most evocative sense, bringing back the past. When I found out this book was again available, I bought it for my now adult brother for Christmas.Of course he remembered it, just like me.Get this book for any youngster for a Christmas gift, I promise it will provide Holiday memories that will last a lifetime.

2-0 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointing
I've enjoyed Melody Carlson's adult novels. They tend to have realistic characters and give a far more complex, nuanced view of faith and the world than a lot of Christian fiction.
5-0 out of 5 stars Faith or Friendship
This book, It's My Life Diary of a Teenage Girl, is a true test to see if Caitlin can remain loyal to God, while trying to maintain her friendship with Beanie. After making a few new commitments to God, Caitlin realizes that dating is just not something that she wishes to take part in.She sees one of the results from dating every day when she looks at Beanie, and just wonders how in the world is that girl every going to be able to raise a child on her own.Among all this friendship trouble Caitlin is also helping out with the planning of a missionary trip to Mexico.Read this book to find out the shocking truths of a teenage girl.

Editorial Review

The words and illustrations of Dr. Seuss have alway seemed inseparable--a peerless fusion of verbal and visual wit. Yet when the good doctor wrote the manuscript for My Many Colored Days in 1973, he specified that the book should be illustrated by "a great color artist who will not be dominated by me." Twenty-three years later, he has gotten his wish.Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher have produced a series of rich, painterly images that could never be mistaken for faux-Seuss. They have, however, caught something of his simplicity, and just as important, his sense of whimsy. ... Read more

My 9 month old, who absolutely loves reading books (his first word was 'book' and he is constantly dragging books to me to read) tries to close the whole book or reach to the side for other books while I'm reading this to him. And I totally understand why. The illustrations are muddy, muted, and boring. The figures blend together like a bad watercolor. That wonderful Seuss visual whimsy and humor is nowhere to be found. I'm actually mystified by the good reviews. I guess every family is different - but my baby and I are bored to tears by this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
This is a beautiful picture book that just melts your heart. This is one of Gary Soto's classics. This is an asset for any classroom to have. The illustrations are so beautiful that you could almost reach out and hug Maria when she is looking at the ring on her finger. Her smile is adorable. The illustrations show the glittery feeling of the holiday season. This book could be used in teaching many lessons on honesty, traditions, Christmas, family and the humor within the storyline. Every child should have a chance to hear this story being read to them and have the opportunity to read the story on there own.

5-0 out of 5 stars don't underestimate the power of this book
I got this book because of its truly exceptional illustrations. The colors are rich and evocative. But I was surprised to see the profound effect that this book had on my four-year-old daughter. She empathized so deeply with the shame and the desperation of the main character that for an entire week after reading this story she was coming to me to make confessions of all the times she was tempted to do things that were wrong. It was a combination of the story and the intense emotions that are depicted in the paintings that came together to shake her to the core. For that reason, think this is a great book for all children, not just Latinos and not just for Christmastime.

5-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2* One Ring to Fool Them All
The warm interiors suffusing this beautifully illustrated Christmas time story convey the entire emotional tone of the book.Although we're waiting for an accident to happen-we can just tell that young Maria is somehow going to lose her mother's ring while helping her make tamales-we also are pretty certain thins are going to work out alright. While this may take away a bit of suspense, this is a comforting book that promises a happy conclusion (delivered her by a surprise).

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical & Easy to Read
Excellent translation, easy to read and understand. The metal case is unique and great for travelling. It protects the pages and keeps bookmarks and papers from falling out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Wear and Tear.
This is the other bible I am currently reading, this is the one I carry in my backpack. It has a very study metal shell, thus it's name, it has a magnetic clasp to keep it closed. I pretty much killed a bible about every year to year and a half by carrying it around in my backpack every day. This bible solves that problem. It is small, compact, and very durable. The metal Bible comes in a variety of colors and designs I have this green one with the dog tags and my wife had my initials engraved in the dog tag before giving it to me as a gift a few summers ago. There are currently, 2 Silver designs, black, orange, red and hot pink. The NLT - New Living Translation is also a great reading edition, both this and the TNIV are newer translations based on modern scholarship and are very accessible to today's readers.
5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing, fancy looking great Bible...Buy it!!
This is one of the greatest looking Bibles I've seen so far, I desided to purchase one and it looks and feels great. A very nice edition to purchase. It is definately a good choice for a gift or for yourself. The bible will always be a good gift but this goes a mile further cause the look is impresive and well done. I highly recommend it for those who take their personal things seriously and like good, high quality stuff and gifts.

With sweetness and sympathy, the author-illustrator gives Mrs. Claus a chance to shine in this lovely holiday book.Hard-working homemakers in particular will enjoy sharing this story about what happens when Mrs. Claus decides she needs a break from taking care of the homefront--that she wants to see the world, too. What she sees and what Santa does while she's away makes for wonderful comedy, with just the right touch of longing.A sweet, tender Christmas treat.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful tale narrated by the best voice actor in the business
First, the tale: Dickens' story hasn't aged at all. On the first page, there's this wry joke about how Marley was "dead as a door-nail," then goes on to speculate about why door-nails are more dead than, say, coffin-nails. This sets the tone for a powerful tale of redemption and change laced with both humor and a bit of fear (all these ghosts!). At the end of it all, Dickens inspires us to be better with this old story; he really captures a "spirit of Christmas" (and I listened to the story in March).
5-0 out of 5 stars As Magnificent as the Ghost of Christmas Present!
Charles Dickens is a legend, and Jim Dale should be.I was thrilled to find out that Mr. Dale had recorded "A Christmas Carol" because I've listened to many many hours (and more voices than hours!) of Mr. Dale.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lead on spirit...lead on!!
Mr. Dale provides his usual vocal magic to bring Dickens' immortal holiday classic to life.Excellent narration, sprightly character voices and the reader's sense of good fun make this recording my personal favorite of 'A Christmas Carol'.

Editorial Review

Robert Sabuda is to pop-up art what the International Grandmaster is to chess, and it isn't for nothing that he's described on the back of this book as a "paper engineer." As the title suggests, this whimsical, old-fashioned, elegant book embodies the Traditional Song of Abundant Giving--each verse of "The 12 Days of Christmas" is illustrated with a different pop-up creation. Some are relatively simple, such as the partridge (made of just two pieces of hinged paper) that opens its wings above some pears. Still, there is something unexpectedly bold about how the bird literally flies out over the top margin of the page. Other pop-ups are more characteristically bravura creations: the "Ten pipers piping" are crafted explicitly as decorative paper cut-outs, but the scissors that cut them are part of the pop-up, too. Perhaps the most complex of the set is "Eleven Ladies Dancing." Interpreted as an old-fashioned music box, the 11 ladies dancing are little ballerinas, and the music box is complete with drawer, back-mirror, and winding key. Sabuda's masterful Read more
