5-0 out of 5 stars Become an Instant Torah Scholar with this Series!
You can be an instant Torah scholar with this fantastic commentary series! Each chapter is laid out as follows:1.a very brief summary of the parsha; 2. a more in depth overview of the parsha; 3. a synopsis of commentary from the world's most famous Torah scholars, both ancient and modern; 4. major themes of the parsha; 5. compelling questions at the end of the chapter regarding the parsha and commentary.5-0 out of 5 stars Accessible and thought-provoking
My wife and I recently decided we'd like to give our young children a more explicit introduction to moral values and figured that the torah would be an excellent vehicle (plus it would introduce the kids to torah). The problem was that neither my wife nore I is by any means a torah scholar - I'm a reform Jew and hadn't really done any bible study since hebrew school many, many years ago. I don't know enough to interpret the biblical texts myself and the full Talmud is far more than I was looking for. So, I went looking, in vain I feared, for a volume that would provide an accessible introduction to the bible. 5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use Commentary
This is one of the best Torah Commentaries for use by people who do not have access to the original Hebrew. It includes a summary of each weekly reading and in depth examination of a few important themes usingtraditional and modern commentaries. I recommend this book for thebeginner and intermediate student to gain access to methods of commentaryand the advanced student who wants ideas and new ways of looking at thetext. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A gift
I gave this book to some dear friends, to read to their 3 year old daughter when one of their baby twins died aged 8 months.I didn't give them the book until 6 months after the event and this felt right...that a little time had passed....it would have been too overwhelming at the time. The parents thought it was a very, very special book and said that it came at the right time and with a beautiful message.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy one to keep and several to give as thoughtful gifts....
This book is a "must have" for anyone going through the loss of a loved one...not just for children! A friend recommended this book to us after the death of our 9 yr. old son in Aug. 2003.It has been a great source of comfort for our entire family! We have also started collecting items with dragonflies on them; and surprisingly enough, they are everywhere! Our son's gravestone even has a dragonfly lasered on it, as a reminder of the meaning behind the book...we are sure we will see him again, when we "turn into a dragonfly".

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, heartfelt and inspiring
After having lost our son Adam in a drowning accident, I wanted a book to read to our children, ages 9 and 13 so that they could understand the concept of death. The book not only helped them but also helped my husband and I in our mourning.I recommend this book highly to anyone in the position of explaining or experiencing the loss of a loved one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
What a great book. As others have said, not just for the little ones. I wish I had this when I taught CCD. Very informative and the kids enjoy reading it. Other books, religious and otherwise, could use some of the teaching tools in this book. For instance, new and unfamiliar words are stated with a sounds like word (pyx rhymes with six). Also, when showing the aerial view of the church the author tells the kid to imagine they are a bird flying overhead. I wish my 4th grade geography teacher would have used that one. Last but not least, the illustration is beautiful.

5-0 out of 5 stars I felt guilty reading this it was so good!
Ages 4-8???Paleeze!This one is timeless, a true must read for all ages!Who says religion can't be fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book For Everyone!
I have to say that this book is so informative and it isn't just for children...I would give this book 5 stars as it explains just about everything that a child could ask a parent. I believe that it keeps the attention of the child because it is very colorful and it is contemporary. ... Read more

I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars I Must be Special
The book, Designed by God so I must be Special, is wonderful.I first received this book when I was [...] and I have been reading it ever since. The book talks about how God created us in an unique and special way.We find out in this book that God gave us all different talents and how he wants us to use them for him. Everytime I read the book it makes me feel so special because I know that God we will always be there for me and it makes me realize how much time God spent on making me, so I must be special. This book is wonderful and I would recomend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Discrimination is disgraceful!
Why does such a positive book discriminate? The white version cost $10.01, while the Afro American version cost $34.95. This is blatant discrimination and totally unfair!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!
Prayer is something that really lacks in a teen's life from my experience. This book shows that it is a neccessity in life. It also shows that any problems with may deal with that God can be there to help you through it all. All you need is the connection with him through prayer. I recommend you buying this for your kid, or buying this for yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a teen, and this book is very helpful.
So far, this is the most helpful book on prayer that I've read. There's many books on prayer that are very lengthly and have lots of theology. But this book is especially meant for teens about my age (13-19).I suggest this book to any Christian teen who wants to have a good prayer life and who really wants to have an intimate relationship with Jesus. The book covers pretty much everything you, as a teen, will need to pray about. For teens that just became a Christian, don't sweat it!This book is definitely for you, as well as for the teen that has been a Christian for a long time.It reviews all the types of things one should pray about to break the strongholds of the enemy so that God can work in your life and in your school and in your family too.I would suggest this book for the mature and for the immature. The strong and the weak. And for every teenage Christian that loves God.Here's a brief overview of the chapters since there isn't yet an excerpt for amazon.com:

5-0 out of 5 stars Please read this book!!
This book was such an amazing inspiration to me.I am married to a youth pastor so working with teenage girls is a way of life for me. I read this book in preparation for a "Pure Freedom" retreat in which I will be a mentor. After reading the book, all I can say is I can't wait to see God in action in those girls lives through this book!!What a down to earth, fun, and MAJORLY effective way Dannah has of ministering the truth about sex and purity to a generation of young women being constantly lied to about their value and sexuality. If you are a parent of pre or teenage daughters I would highly recommend that you read this book for yourself and then read it with your daughter because it is and awesome opportunity for you to come along side of her and help her grow into the woman of God she should be.I plan on using this book as a ten week bible study with the girls in my youth group and I can't wait!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I will put this book in the hands of each of my daughters
Dannah walks you through not only the why but the how to stay pure!Best book I have found for this subject! I highly recommed it to anyone who is dating, or loves someone who is dating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring
I am so thankful that I found this book during one ofmy perusals of the Christian section of the bookstore.Gresh has written a wonderful book that is highly inspiring and encouraging to those who want to bring purity into their marriage. Not only does she write in a way that makes one proud to have remained a virgin, but she also ensures that those who may have already taken that step don't feel condemned or left out. There is no judgmental attitude whatsoever. There is no effort to make sex seem like it is only for procreation and that if people are religious they are not to enjoy sex. Each chapter delves into how purity is obtained and maintained and the importance of bringing such purity to the marital bed.Instead of writing a book that tries to drum into you that you should remain a virgin because otherwise you will go to hell, Gresh spells out clearly how wonderful the intimacy is when shared for the first time with your new spouse and how this intimacy is directly related to God's love for us.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to wait until they are married for having sex the first time, or who has had sex, butnow wants to stop andabstain until marriage. It will encourage you and even make you excited about that special gift that God has given to us. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Preschoolers
This book series is awesome!I have a sensitive 3 year old and was concerned that some bible stories may leave him more afraid than encouraged.I have bought about 5 different toddler/preschool books trying to find a "gentle" one. This series is it!!She doesn't go into detail about the sins that people do, rather puts it in simple wording which little one's can relate to...like "did something bad".In the story of Noah, she doesn't go into the sin that brought on the flood or that God wiped out all of the people, she just focusses on how Noah obeyed and how God saved Noah & family from the big storm.I love that! The stories are short enough but engaging for my preschooler. The only negative thing that I can say is that my little one wants me to read one after another which makes the bedtime routine a little longer. After about the 3rd story, I have to just tell him we'll read more tomorrow night.Love this book series!

4-0 out of 5 stars kids love them
My kids love this series!I will have to confess that the illustrations are not my favorite, but children really enjoy them.I even use these for bible time with some preschoolers at a local school. We have never found anything to be scripturally unsound in these stories and would recommend them to anyone with young children.

Very informative and wonderfully written stories of the heroes of the Christian faith.Riveting and inspiring!I've used this with my own children, in teaching Sunday School and in my 4th grade class. It's always the preferred book, even when reading from several other sources.Every Christian should read this book.

We have used this book in our home school studies of the Middle Ages, and have loved it.The author makes the history come alive with his wonderful writing style and interesting information. We have used it alongside other books that sometimes discuss the same people in history, and this one is by far the most interesting narrative.I love it, as do my 5th and 2nd grader. We use it as a read aloud, but an older student could easily tackle it as a reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference for Catholic Parents
This is a wonderful guide for Catholic parents.I wonder about the title because I think Catholics who are active now in the Church know that being Catholic isn't about guilt but about freedom and grace.I can't speak forthe experience years ago, but...for me, the "guiltless" part ofthe book wasn't what made it worth the money, but rather the"parenting" part. It's full of great ideas for building upcommunication and worship within the family, for creating greateropportunities for spirituality and prayer with your kids.I think it's agreat book for any Catholic parent. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING resource
This book is extremely helpful for anyone going through the pain of miscarriage or infant loss.It is sensitive and wise, it was a God-send to me during one of the darkest periods of my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift Book for Grieving Mothers
Looking for one book to give as a gift to a family grieving the death of their baby? This is the one!The hardbound "keepsake" quality of this book, matched with ample journalizing space to document and personalize your own grief journey, beautifully compliment the author's devotional reflections, packed with wisdom and spiritual insights from a mom who's "been there" through loss.
2-0 out of 5 stars difficult to read
After experiencing a loss recently, I was looking for books to help me during the difficult days that follow. I was looking for more personal experience or scientific info. All of the references to the bible in relation to pregnancy loss just did not make a connection with me. I am a spiritual person, but I just did not find this book very helpful. There are many other books that I found informative and comforting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated
Eloise Wilkin has been a favorite since I was a child, we treasured our Little Golden Books and passed some down to our own children, my daughters especially loved the illustrations of the little children . Now I am buying them for my grandchildren, this book is beautifully bound and includes some of her best work. Mrs. Wilkin creates a lovely, serene and happy family atmosphere that children and adults relate to and enjoy. Our grandchildren are the third generation to thrill to these books.

4-0 out of 5 stars a sweet and gentler time
I love this beautiful book filled with images from a simpler, gentler time.I remember Eloise Wilkin stories that I used to look at as a little girl, that used to be my mother's books. So this book is very nostalgic for me.I gave it a 4 since
